How to Place Products Without the Use of Product Placement : "If You Notice, It's Bad. But If You Don't , It's Worthless"

Jinnemo, Marie, Pettersson, Sandra January 2011 (has links)
Purpose: The thesis will contribute to an understanding of how the process of product placement functions and how the new Swedish Radio and Television law has, so far, influenced the different parties involved in the product placement process. The thesis will also give an insight in how the different parties involved , handle the ethical issues around product placement and product placement with alcoholic beverages. The purpose is also to give an understanding of if and how alcoholic beverages can be exposed in television despite the new conditions that the Swedish Radio and Television law has caused. Research questions: What impact has the new Swedish Radio and Television law had on the different parties involved in the product placement process? How do the different parties involved in the product placement process reflect upon and handle the ethical issues around product placement, specifically with alcoholic beverages? How do comapnies working with alcoholic beverages manage to place their products in Swedish television within the new law regulation? Method: The primary empirical investigation is qualitative and seventeen semi-structured interviews were conducted, both by telephone and personal. There were also four focus groups made. Conclusion: The interpretation of the law is different between the parties involved in a product placement process. Even though the parties have a clearer picture of what is defined as product placement , what is allowed and not, there are still differences about how to apply the law. The different parties involved did not have any major ethical issues with product placement in general or product placement with alcoholic beverages. Companies working woth alcoholic beverages manage to show their products in television, though it is illegal to place these products. After the study, it was evident that they instead chosse to sponsor with their products in different productions. The consumer have not been affected by the new law due to their lack of knowledge about the regulations about product placement.

Tal till text för relevant metadatataggning av ljudarkiv hos Sveriges Radio / Speech to text for relevant metadata tagging of audio archive at Sveriges Radio

Jansson, Annika January 2015 (has links)
Speech to text for relevant metadata tagging of audio archive at Sveriges Radio Abstract In the years 2009-2013, Sveriges Radio digitized its program archive. Sveriges Radio's ambition is that more material from the 175 000 hours of radio they broadcast every year should be archived. This is a relatively time-consuming process to make all materials to be searchable and it's far from certain that the quality of the data is equally high on all items.         The issue that has been treated for this thesis is: What opportunities exist to develop a system to Sveriges Radio for Swedish speech to text?         Systems for speech to text has been analyzed and examined to give Sveriges Radio a current overview in this subject.         Interviews with other similar organizations working in the field have been performed to see how far they have come in their development of the concerned subject.         A literature study has been conducted on the recent research reports in speech recognition to compare which system would match Sveriges Radio's needs and requirements best to get on with.         What Sveriges Radio should concentrate at first, in order to build an ASR, Automatic Speech Recognition, is to transcribe their audio material. Where there are three alternatives, either transcribe themselves by selecting a number of programs with different orientations to get such a large width as possible on the content, preferably with different speakers and then also be able to develop further recognition of the speaker. The easiest way is to let different professions who make the features/programs in the system do it. Other option is to start a similar project that the BBC has done and take help of the public. The third option is to buy the service for transcription.         My advice is to continue evaluate the Kaldi system, because it has evolved significantly in recent years and seems to be relatively easy to extend. Also the open-source that Lingsoft uses is interesting to study further.

Ohlsson, David January 2017 (has links)
This study is a based on a quantitative content analysis with the purpose to analyse if the Swedish Radio’s local radio channel P4 Norrbotten is objective during there coverage of the 2014 election in Sweden. The analysed material consists of the newscast from the local radiostation. All newscasts were broadcasted from September 1st 2014 to September 14th 2014. The material was transcribed at the The Swedish Media Database (SMDB) at the National Library of Sweden. The study used different theories, the objectivity concept presented by Westerståhl (1972) and a theory presented by Asp (2011) about how political parties and political actors are favoured or disadvantaged by the news presented in the local broadcast. The political theory of mediatization has also been used. 600 analysis units were encoded in the code analysis. Of these, 84 were about the 2014 election or contained political parties. Results from the quantitative content analysis shows that the Social Democrats where the political party that occurred most frequently in the news. Asp’s (2011) theory shows that the Swedish Democrats were favoured the most from news reporting, while the Green Party was most disadvantaged by the news reporting. According to the results from the code analysis, the local radiostation P4 Norrbotten is objective in its news coverage of the 2014 election campaign in Sweden. 600 analysenheter kodades i kodanalysen.

Lokal journalistik i det nya medielandskapet : En kvalitativ onlinestudie av radiokanalen P4 Västmanland / Local Journalism in the New Media Landscape : A Qualitative Online Study of  the Swedish Radio Channel P4 Västmanland

Nascimento, Claudia January 2012 (has links)
The main purpose of this thesis is to examine why people aged between 35-49 years are not listening to the Public Service radio channel P4 Västmanland, one of Swedish Radio´s 26 local channels. The second point has been analyzed is why P4 Västmanland audience listens to the channel. With the help of focus group interviews via social media site Facebook we examined 15 individuals divided into two focus groups: P4 listeners and non-listeners. Listening to the radio for pleasure is common to both groups, who are in the same age category. Together the groups are generated from about 234 Facebook posts, which are the basic material for this study. A supplemental questionnaire is included as a pre-analysis portion as well as an interview with P4 Västmanland journalist, Annika Nordin. This study mostly uses Barbara Thomass' (2003) theoretical perspectives on the public sphere (Habermas, 1989) and knowledge society linked to the Public Service. Our results demonstrate that the majority of the target non-listeners perceive the channel as outdated; this view is also shared with the P4's listeners. The study shows that non-listeners do not think local news is important. When it comes to how to get in contact with national and international news, it is primarily the Web, not the radio, which is the priority choice for the latter group. The study also shows that for both groups, computer access is crucial to how people interact with media and consume news. The conclusion of this study is that if the P4 Västmanland channel is perceived as outdated, so this may be an obstacle to the radio channel to recruit new listeners. The channel must find a balance in order to promote it´s own audience, which require the variation in local news, while reaching more listeners in the  35 and 49 age group. Both groups indicate that the potential for interaction through new media should be utilized in these new times.
