The Study of Dynamic System Guidance to Management Strategy- For the Case of Small-Medium Enterprise in Taiwan.

Hsieh, Min-Hsin 17 August 2008 (has links)
For the thinking of System Dynamics guidance the priority is the understanding and governing the Dynamic Complexity of management strategy in the enterprise operation, how to get over the maze of Dynamic Complexity in the field of strategy management has been becoming the necessary thinking, and also be required as the basic element of enterprise management for all remarkable entrepreneurs. Dynamic Complexity is existing in the nature (Marco Cycling), also embodying in each human being (Micro Cycling), which is changing in every mil-second, interacting and maintaining the cyclic operation in harmonic balance skillfully. As likely, the internal, external environment and conditions of the enterprise operation are also varing, inter-complementing, inter-restricting all the time so as to reciprocally create the constant rule of Causal Feedback. The philosophy concept and method of System Dynamics, System Thinking is completely furnishing a key to release the Dynamic Complexity, so the management strategy can be reviewed, integrated by this marco thinking to the fullness. General reviewing on the operation status of Small-Medium Enterprise (SME) in Taiwan are being become more strictly constricted by the marco economical environment and the owned resource of each self. The sustained years of enterprise operational life and the ratio of survived company numbers of SME are becoming lower-down year by year. Therefore, in the front of management the System Complexity has been more serious now, then how to find out a key to pass thru this maze is the focus of thinking in this thesys researching. By a Questionnaire Investigation in this study the Strategy Themes of SME in Taiwan have been selected by the management of bench-marking enterprises for which they are most concerning about, there-after the Strategy Themes of System Complexity on Strategy Map, Balanced Scorecard are infrastructed. The dynamic inter-relation of Strategy Themes are displayed in the four perspectives of Balanced Scorecard and Strategy Map, there-after the real example of an enterprise is substantially applied to illustrate KPI and target of Balanced Scorecard and the Action Plan in this study. The core of System Complexity for these Strategy Themes are guidied to study by the System Thinking of Causual Diagram, One General Diagram is arised and ten of Causual Diagram are constructed separately from it to present the inter-relative of these Strategy Themes connections, there-after ¡§Positive Loop¡¨ (Reinforcing Loop), Negative Loop (Balancing Loop), Time Delay in each Loop are reviewed and explained the presentation of its inter-relative and followed up the workable leverage solutions as per the experienced reality of business practice. The presentation in each Causual Diagram doesn¡¦t mean to only one implication exclusively, it is giving the management to have the non-linear, marco reviewing more widely on these Strategy Themes and it will be able to find out the solutions and settlement when they are facing or tired-up by the same or similar strategy concerns in the substantial of business operation. This will be the favorable way of the management to find out a key for getting over the maze of System Complexity. Keyword: System Dynamics, System Thinking, Dynamic Complexity, Balanced Scorecard, Strategy Map, Small-Medium Enterprise.

"The sustainable development way of implementing circular economy" : A system thinking approach

Aggesund, Pamela January 2018 (has links)
This study aims to develop an understanding of how circular economy should be implemented to result in sustainable development and to analyze the potential of one particular implementation to result in sustainable development. “The sustainable development way of implementing circular economy” is presented by understanding circular economy with system thinking and considering the factors affecting the implementation of circular economy. Interviews and text-analysis are conducted to analyze the character and potential of ReTuna, a reused items mall in Eskilstuna, to result in sustainable development. Results show circular economy should be implemented as a way of reasoning that can result in a systemic transformation of the economic system to result in eco-centric sustainability. Implementations that do not explicitly derive from a an understanding of circular economy as a new way of reasoning are despite this valuable due to a system’s character of interconnectedness. ReTuna is implemented as a set of practices and an organizational structure but it also demonstrates an honorable effort to change people’s perception of the human-nature relationship. It is concluded that way of implementation has to reflect and be synchronized with the aspiration behind implementing circular economy. ReTuna has potential to result in sustainability but does not yet.

AU-Led Peace Operations : The Case of the AMISOM KDF’s Local Peacebuilding Engagement in Southern Somalia, Jubbaland Region

Emil, Thillberg, Philip, Martinsson January 2020 (has links)
Contemporary peace operations are deployed to increasingly complex, high-risk environments where localised armed groups, often those that can influence the trajectory of the conflict are not at the table, at the same time militaries are mandated to facilitate social, economic and political transformative processes in recovered areas. By the opening of the twenty-first century, the distinction between peacebuilding and military interventions converged both in policy and practice and increasing pressure are placed on the troop-contributing countries to adapt to the dynamics of ‘multidimensional peace operations. Drawing upon the intersection between the academic bodies of peacekeeping and counter-insurgency, this research argues that there is a growing amount of empirically grounded literature that seeks to critically assess missions’ peacebuilding capability, and more specifically its impact on local settings. Yet, most studies tend to be framed in relation to conflict abatement along reductionist approaches to development rather than analysing how and in what ways such missions aid in providing a stable polity, thus suggesting a need of further investigation about the phenomena. In contribution to the community of practice(s), this research draws upon the latest theoretical trend of peacebuilding, abiding to a system perspective of the 5 Capabilities Framework (5Cs). This, in order to attain an increased understanding of military actors’ involvement and ability to undertake early peacebuilding tasks, by studying the case of the Kenyan Defence Force (KDF) under the auspices of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in the Jubbaland region. Moreover, the research was operationalised through an on-ground collection of data in Kenya and Somalia, using unstructured and semi-structured interviews and draws upon a purposive sampling method to gather perspectives from a variety of actors involved in peace operation affairs. The study finds that the AMISOM KDF has played a key role in shaping the organisation’s peacebuilding policy, with a diverse portfolio engagement of both top-down and bottom-up character. Working predominantly through informal structures, much of their engagement is not aligned with the AMISOM civilian headquarters, in response to an environment with many challenges, resulting in a patchwork of practices with sectoral difference. Analytically, the 5Cs framework posit that an organisation must strike a balance between all capabilities in order to produce social value, something that the Kenyan contingents have struggled to achieve. While this unpacks a view of moderate, to low capacity for peacebuilding, it also generates an overall critique to the framework as it promotes a scenario which seems impossible to realise. Despite its ‘system-wide’ contribution, questions remain regarding the value of the framework in analysing local peacebuilding engagement in peace operations.

Towards a Holistic Development Approach for Adaptable Manufacturing Paradigms : A Case Study of Evolvable Production Systems

Rahatulain, Afifa January 2016 (has links)
Increasing global competition, market uncertainties and high product variance are a few of the factors posing challenges to the existing manufacturing industry. Having a quick response to market fluctuations and adapting to changing customer demands while maintaining shorter lead times and low costs are a few of the major challenges. The main focus of this thesis is on Evolvable Production Systems, which is one of the promising solutions to deal with the emerging manufacturing challenges by changing the conventional manufacturing systems towards a more flexible, intelligent and adaptable approach. Although promising, further research is needed in several directions for a wider industrial acceptance of EPS. The directions include but are not limited to methodological aspects, tool support, etc. throughout the development lifecycle. This thesis aims to provide a basis for a holistic model-based development methodology for evolvable production systems. One of the main contributionsof this work is the identification of major architectural elements (i.e stakeholders, concerns, viewpoints and views) and their dependencies on each other. This work shall serve as a basis for establishing a well-defined architectural framework for EPS. The second important contribution of this thesis is the development of a domain specific modeling language (EPS- DSL) based on the existing EPS ontology. The DSM platform does not only store the domain knowledge in the form of models but also provides support for the re-use of these models, i.e. enables utilization of the domain ontology during system development. Moreover, the automatic code generation support for the module library presented in this work, significantly reduces the risks of information discrepancies when transferring data from one abstraction level to another. The existing EPS ontology is also evaluated from a holistic perspective and resulted in contributing a few improvement suggestions for achieving a seamless model-based development approach. Evaluation of Simulink/SimEvents as a modeling and simulation tool for EPS is the third main contribution of this thesis. One of the main advantages of evaluating this tool for EPS is the opportunity to analyze the complete system behavior on a single modeling platform. The integration of agent-based system behavior (discrete event) with dynamic system behavior (continuous & discrete time) provides a holistic modeling approach and implies less information inconsistencies. /
QC 20160429

A System Dynamics Approach Linking Employee Health, Quality Culture and Organizational Effectiveness

Sadia, Rina 04 May 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to investigate the interactions between organizational effectiveness, quality culture, and employee health. The system dynamics modeling approach is used in order to reveal the complex and dynamic behavior of the system under investigation. Understanding system behavior facilitates policy analysis and management decision-making. The relationships between the three constructs: organizational effectiveness, quality culture and employee health are non linear and during the research a number of dynamic hypotheses were investigated. For example, illness is the main cause for absenteeism, loss of productivity, ineffective learning, which in turn causes even more stress and eventually more illness. As part of the system dynamics approach a conceptual (qualitative) model and a formal (quantitative) model were built. The conclusion from analyzing the dynamic hypotheses of this model was that quality culture had a great impact on the performance of the whole system, especially on employees’ health and on organizational effectiveness. Furthermore, employees’ health and organizational effectiveness concurrently impact each other. However, this research could not show a considerable impact of the employees’ health and organizational effectiveness on the organization’s quality culture. The research contributes to the general understanding of complex production systems, since the three constructs investigated in this research face similar issues, i.e., the trade-off between long-term and short-term goals, consequences of managerial actions that are far apart in time and space, and conflicts between measurable outcomes and subjective outcomes. The research adds to the design of effective social systems, where the products and the services are created in a quality fashion, and individuals experience an environment that is conducive to their well-being. / Ph. Digitalisierung der Engineering Prozesse durch System Lifecycle Management (SysLM)

Eigner, Martin 03 September 2021 (has links)

Frisk, Kajsa, Mattsson, Anna January 2016 (has links)
Service logic perspective, systems thinking and organizational learning promotes innovation in organizations. The challenge is to find out the users’ needs and to select a custom organizational structure as a method to create value. The foundation is to increase the breadth and depth of learning in the organization for increased flexibility. The trick is to select and implement promotion perspective. The study's survey is based on a service logic perspective to understand the needs of users in a minor problem. There is a discussion in this study of a framework to improve the innovation environment in a social office in central Sweden. The method is inspired by action research. Nine interviews were conducted in order to create pre-understanding of user needs. A transparent communication with clients held over time in order to increase awareness and understanding of different approaches and perspectives. The authors held a workshop with eight participants in order to create a shared mental model, transparency between entities that are dependent and to allow authors problem scenario validated. A final presentation was held for the management team for the purpose of a respondent validation. The results show that the standardized IT- system creates a complex manual administration. IT- developers and unit managers feel that the integration between the systems has flaws. Employee involvement is not sufficient and communication gaps in important detailed information between entities.

From the perspective of business processes, the companies invest in innovations and improvements, where usually established approaches are applied. This dynamic starts by a diagnostic modeling, or not, the business processes for understanding the current situation. However, such approaches usually do not consider the circularity of the interrelationships of the systems of the organization and how these connections affect the systems between systems. Regarding the paradigm of Business Process Improvement, think of changes without thinking in the elements inherent to human perception can facilitate the decision-making in these possibly present to unexpected problems in the future, interfering in business processes as a whole. Thus, this research aims to propose an approach to systemically understand business processes through the integration between the Business Process Engineering (BPE) and Systems Thinking. Then were combined the concepts of such areas concerning the aims of research with the Systems Method. An initial approach was structured and applied in exploratory case study with single unit of analysis. From the empirical evaluation approach was refined in the case, so a search of applied nature and qualitative approach. The search results are evidence that the combination between BPE and ST can contribute to better understanding of business processes.

This research proposes an Organizational Process for Change Management, justified from a theoretical gap of operational detail on the subject, combined with the practical demand for an artifact that is part of the organizational routine for Change Management. To design and develop the Proposed Process was used the Methodology of Design Research that is a guide to develop artifacts to improve systems or problem solving. Although generic, the Proposed Process for Change Management was inspired by an existing organizational environment. As a source of analysis, development and partial implementation of the new proposal, a company in the mining sector was used. To develop the activities were mainly used the principles and techniques contained in the System Thinking. As a complement for activities and phases not included in this approach, were used the Theory of Constraints Thinking Process and the Methodology for Transformation Process - TransMeth. Identified the problem in the field led to a review of existing literature for initial exploration and understanding of models and methods to systematize the conduct and management of the change process in organizations. The studies found were categorized into three different detail levels: level 1 - models which illustrate the stages and explain how change occurs in organizations; level 2 - suggested guidelines for driving the change, explaining the "what" should or not should be made to the achievement of an effective change; level 3 - methods that guide "how" manage the change, usually developed from Methods for Identification, Analysis and Solution of Problems existing in the theoretical field. The fourth level artifact of this study, proposes a process for organizational change management, defining activities, responsible, documents, rituals, and performance measures.
