Musicians dealing with the consequences of COVID-19 : A study on how musicians have adjusted to work in a socially distanced societyKiukas, Tobias January 2020 (has links)
The COVID-19 pandemic shook the entire world at the start of 2020, causing aglobal social and economic disruption. This was especially true for those workingwith large groups of people in places like movie theaters, airplanes and live musicvenues. This qualitative study seeks to explain what kind of professional livesmusicians have had to develop during the coronavirus pandemic through emailinterviews. The research relates to the theory of habitus and field. It also relates totheory of strategies and tactics. The focus will be on how musicians from Sweden,Finland and the United States have adjusted to work. The musicians were devastatedand shocked but quick in using tactics to adapt to the situation. There were bigtransformations in plans already made. Some musicians returned to former jobs.Part-time teachers started teaching more through Zoom. A few held live-streamedconcerts. Some musicians had time for side projects while others sought completelynew jobs, which in one case, turned out in his favor. The musicians were almostuniversally hopeful for a brighter future.

Teachers’ tactics when programming and mathematics convergeFuentes Martinez, Ana January 2021 (has links)
Teachers’ everyday practices are embedded in school contexts in which their teaching autonomy is constrained by rules, moral obligations, physical settings, and official directives. When a curricular revision mandated that programming was to be a part of mathematics in upper secondary education, teachers’ conditions changed. How teachers adapted to the new curriculum and how they navigated the tensions and contradictions that they encountered is in this thesis analyzed in terms of teachers’ tactics and policy strategies. The overall goal of the investigation is to contribute to a critical understanding of how mathematics teachers integrate programming in their professional practice and how this integration aligns and diverges from the intentions behind the reform. The empirical material is drawn from nine individual interviews with mathematics teachers that were already proficient in programming. The teachers’ unit plans and other lesson materials featuring programming activities served as a trigger point to delve into further reflections upon their own professional practices. To complete the scene, the policy documents were also examined. These included the mathematics curriculum, as well as related official documents and a collection of institutionally sanctioned programming exercises and demonstrations. Two tactical approaches were made apparent when mathematics teachers began to integrate computer programming in their subject: Dual teaching and Interspersed programming. The teacher’s use of dual teaching practices or interspersed programming are tactics shaped by and in response to the conditions of the new curriculum and their own preferences and views on student learning. These two tactics disclose different ontological commitments in relation to the strategies dictated by the curriculum and reflect a cardinal distinction between planning mathematics activities with elements of programming and planning programming activities with elements of mathematics. Of relevance for teachers and curriculum designers is the understanding of (a) how the notion of programming and mathematics as separate subjects oversimplifies teachers’ actual integration practices, and (b) how the curricular choices made by policy can shape the teaching tactics adopted by educators.

Spatial Appropri-Action : Tactics for the post-industrial designerNielsen, Karen Cort January 2020 (has links)
This is a project that asks questions. Why are we behaving in certain ways? Why are we using objects for a certain purpose and not others? Why can’t we do it differently? Questions most of us never even consider because we have gotten so used to following the path that is predetermined for us. Throughout this work I will analyze how skateboarding poses a critique of spatial regulations and pre-defined purposes, as well as how skaters are suggesting a whole new perspective on our everyday life. I argue that skaters are in fact the post-industrial designers of their everyday life, and that the perspective of skaters carries potential for sustainable change as it favors the imagination and possibilities over restrictions and limitations. This is a perspective that I believe can help us make better use of the resources we have, both in terms of ecological sustainability, but also with regards to social aspects, as it allows for greater diversity and multitudes of behaviors within the same space. Through several design iterations I have explored how skateboarding offers tactics that can be applied by others to start a process of imagining and performing alternative ways of engaging with public spaces.

Combat Reconsidered: A Statistical Analysis of Small-Unit Actions During the American Civil WarBarloon, Mark C. 12 1900 (has links)
Historians often emphasize the physical features of battleterrain, weaponry, troop formations, earthworks, etc.in assessments of Civil War combat. Most scholars agree that these external combat conditions strongly influenced battle performance. Other historians accentuate the ways in which the mental stresses of soldiering affected combat performance. These scholars tend to agree that fighting effectiveness was influenced by such non-physical combat conditions as unit cohesion, leadership, morale, and emotional stress. Few authors argue that combat's mental influences were more significant in determining success or failure than the physical features of the battlefield. Statistical analysis of the 465 tactical engagements fought by twenty-seven Federal regiments in the First Division of the Army of the Potomac's Second Corps throughout the American Civil War suggests that the mental aspects of battle affected fighting efficiency at least as muchand probably more thancombat's physical characteristics. In other words, the soldiers' attitudes, opinions, and emotions had a somewhat stronger impact on combat performance than their actions, positions, and weaponry.

Taktika výslechu / Interrogation tacticsJansa, Petr Šimon January 2020 (has links)
87 Interrogation tactics ABSTRACT This thesis deals with interrogation tactics. The topic is still relevant as it is one of the most important and used criminal evidence. The aim of this work was to summarize available knowledge from Czech and foreign literature about conducting the interrogation, with a focus on the mistakes caused by interrogators. In addition to describing these mistakes, the work also recommends how to avoid them. Practical examples were obtained from available case-law and interrogation protocols. The analytical-descriptive and comparative method of research was used. The work is divided into five parts, introduction and conclusion. These parts are divided into individual chapters and subchapters. The first part is focused on the interrogation from the perspective of criminalistics, criminal law and forensic psychology. It defines the meaning and the purpose of interrogation and statement, different types and legal regulation. It also deals with psychological aspects of interrogation tactics. The second part discusses the preparation of the interrogation, an important aspect that should not be underestimated. The preparation is divided into analytical and synthetic phases. The third part of the thesis describes the construction of the interrogation and its three stages - the initial...

Nya kollegor, jättekul men påfrestande : En studie om organisationssocialisationens påverkan på vårdpersonalens mentala arbetsbelastningvon Heideken, Linnea, Nordin, Emma January 2021 (has links)
The healthcare sector is today one of the most overburdened industries and this includes a high workload on the healthcare staff. The high workload means that it is an industry that is in constant need of new employees, which in turn means that organizational socialization, which in everyday language is referred to as an onboarding, is a common phenomenon. In order for organizational socialization to take place in an effective manner, organizations usually try to develop some type of tactics for implementation. Regardless of the tactics, it appears that the role of the employees is crucial as a great deal of responsibility is placed on them, which can mean that their mental workload is affected. An overall purpose of our study has therefore been to develop knowledge about organizational socialization in the care sector, but more specifically we intended to investigate how the existing care staff experience that organizational socialization affects their own mental workload. The questions we asked focused on what experiences the existing staff have of organizational socialization in their current workplace, how they feel that their mental workload is affected in connection with it and which socialization tactics appear to be more closely connected with their mental workload being negatively affected. The study is of a qualitative nature and we chose to conduct seven semi-structured interviews with employees in the healthcare sector. Our empirical material has been analyzed on the basis of two models, one of which explains the complexity of mental workload and the other describes socialization tactics. The results showed that the care staff experience a higher mental workload in connection with organizational socialization, however, it did not appear that the choice of socialization tactics was the decisive factor but that the main reason was time pressure.

Jurodivost a jiné projevy substandardního chování z pohledu řečově-komunikačních taktik. Na materiálu Minejí pro čtení Dimitrije Rostovského / The holy foolishness and other expressions of sub-standard behaviour from the point of view of speech-behaviour tactics Based on Dimitry of Rostov's Chetii MineiŘoutil, Michal January 2012 (has links)
The presented thesis deals with the holy foolishness and other expressions of sub- standard behaviour as part of hagiography. It is examined from the point of view of the so-called "singular speech-behaviour tactics" (сингулярные рече-поведенческие тактики) and based on the analysis of texts taken from the most comprehensive corpus of the hagiographic texts written in the Church Slavonic, Dimitry of Rostov's Chetii Minei. The thesis consists of the Introduction, three main chapters, Conclusion and Bibliography. The first chapter focuses on history: it describes relevant works on the Russian hagiographic literature of the 11th-17th centuries concerning the hagiographies of the holy fools, it shows the current state of search in Russia and describes the basic monuments of literature. The second part of this chapter deals with the life and work of a great Russian writer of the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, Dimitry of Rostov (1651-1709). The second chapter is devoted to the methodological approach used in the thesis, i.e. the singular speech-behaviour tactics as understood by E.M. Vereshchagin and V.G. Kostomarov, who introduced them in the world science. Furthermore, the wider and narrower context of the research carried in this field up to date is shown. In the third chapter, the essential...

Varför onboarding? : En dokumentanalys av onboardingprocessens framställan i organisatoriska dokumentGöhle, Emma, Wikström, Jennifer January 2022 (has links)
Onboarding is a strategy used as an introduction for new employees with the purpose to retain staff and skills in an increasingly competitive labor market. Onboarding aims to introduce the new employee to the organization. The new employee is expected to develop knowledge and skills that existing organizational members possess to become an effective organization member. The need for onboarding will probably remain and the study contributes to the sociological research about onboarding which is currently limited. Research has previously addressed the effects of onboarding in specific organizations and focused on the socialization process. Organizational socialization is the scientific explanation of how the new employee becomes an effective member of the organization, while the onboarding process is understood as a practical process of socialization that occurs at the beginning of the employment. This study uses document analysis to examine how the onboarding process is described in organizational documents. By including theories about onboarding, role and modernity, the study examines how organization, individual and society is considered in the documents. A successful onboarding process is described in a similar way in all documents. The reason for this is partly that all documents have been established by modern organizations in modern society where individuals have high demands on employers. Documents state that the onboarding process should be organized systematically and involve the entire organization. How the new employee deals with their role and understands the roles of other organizational members is crucial to becoming an effective member.

The Measurement of Operational Performance Effectiveness: An Innovative Organisational ApproachGomes, Carlos F., Yasin, Mahmoud M., Lisboa, João V. 01 January 2007 (has links)
The literature on manufacturing performance measurement underscores the importance of operational performance measures, as well as aggregate organisational measures. However, research aimed at quantifying and tracking such measures from both operational and organisational perspectives has been slow in forthcoming. The Manufacturing Operational Effectiveness (MOE) indicator introduced and tested in this study lends itself to both operational performance measures and aggregate organisational performance measures of the manufacturing system performance. The results of several simulation scenarios utilising actual manufacturing data clearly illustrate the utility of MOE. These results have both operational tactical and strategic organisational practical implications. Operational effectiveness and strategic competitiveness can be tracked and improved through the systematic utilisation of MOE.
