PM Lebopa : Papetso ya Dikanegelotseka tsa Lebopa (Sepedi)Magapa, Ntepele Isaac 10 January 2013 (has links)
In this dissertation Lebopa' s two short stories entitled Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe and Bomahlwabadibona are compared with each other. Groenewald is the first person to have pointed out the importance of these two detective short stories. By doing this he also pointed out the importance of Lebopa as a Sepedi author. The named two short stories have never been examined comprehensively. It was therefore decided that they would be compared to each other in this study. The study begins with a description of the concept 'detective story'. Stewart (1980: 12) states that this type of story deals with an investigator who tries to unravel a mystery. The Boileau - Narcejac and Groenewald classifications of these types of stories also receive attention. The Groenewald classification is used in this dissertation. Strachan and Mojalefa's opinion that a literary work consists of three levels forms the basis of the model used to analyse the short stories. Mojalefa refers to these three levels as 'content level', 'structure level' and 'style level'. 'Topic' and 'theme' are two basic concepts in this investigation. 'Topic' is relevant on a content level while 'theme' is important on a structure level'. The two stories were not analysed stylistically. The content of a text consists of four elements, namely characters, events, time and space, and the study of content concentrates on these four elements. Two main figures who are involved in a conflict with each other are identified in the investigation. The events are divided into three categories. The first category contains basic events and is exclusively determined by the topic. The second and third categories respectively contain relevant and coincidental events. The 'time' concept is subdivided into 'point of time' and 'lapse of time'. 'Place' includes amongst other things, 'geographic', 'socio-cultural' and 'symbolic place'. The analysis of the structural level relies heavily on the 'mini-framework' concept which involves the microstructure of a work. Attention is devoted to the title. Hereafter the investigation focused on the different parts of the structure i.e. the exposition, the development, the climax and the resolution. The structural analysis concentrates mainly on the author's use of literary techniques. The concept 'technique' is defined and the following techniques from Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe and Bomahlwabadibona are identified and discussed: repetition, shifting, frequency, dramatic irony, omission, focus, complication and deceit. The investigation is a functional analysis and not a taxonomic one, which means that the ways in which the techniques function also receive attention. The comparison between the two short stories reveals that they belong to two different kinds of detective stories. In Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe the unravelling of the mystery receive the most attention. In Bomahlwabadibona those events which gradually expose the cruelty of the antagonist and which deal with his punishment are most prominent. This is in accordance with Dresden and Vestdijk's description of the English and American detective story respectively. The positions of Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe and Bomahlwabadibona in relation to the rest of the Sepedi narrative genre is then precisely indicated. The concluding chapter is a summary. At the end of this chapter a brief allusion is made to Dresden and Vestdijk's opinion that the detective story is a modern fairytale. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / African Languages / unrestricted

The topic of the thesis is creating a business plan for a theme restaurant in the town of Zlín, the concept of the restaurant being a steak restaurant in North American style. The thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part starts with addressing issues connected with the entrepreneur and entrepreneurship briefly and goes on to analyze the essence of the business plan and the principles which should be followed when drawing a plan up. Last but not least follows the suggestion of an appropriate structure for the business plan including the description of its individual parts. The practical part of the thesis presents the business plan for a theme restaurant. The business plan was written for the purpose of the founder, who is also the author of the thesis.

Organizational Rhetoric in the Academy: Junior Faculty Perceptions and RolesGordon, Cynthia K. 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this project was to examine the perceptions of junior faculty members as they relate to roles and expectations related to the tenure process. The study utilized a mixed methods approach to gain a multifaceted perspective of this complex process. I employed a quantitative and qualitative survey to explore junior faculty perceptions regarding roles related to promotion and tenure policies. In addition, I conducted fantasy theme analysis (FTA) to explore the organizational rhetoric related to these policies. Findings from the study illustrate the continued presence of the "publish or perish" paradigm, as well as issues related to role conflict within the context of organizational rhetoric.

The implications of computer-integrated Theme Days for learners at St Alban's CollegeViljoen, Marlene 08 July 2003 (has links)
This essay reports on an investigation of an integrative solution to facilitating cooperative learning for net generation learners in a technology-rich environment. Of specific interest is the changing roles of learners and educators as well as the enabling role of technology. The case study investigated and utilised to compile this dissertation is the Earthly Aliens Theme Day. Data obtained by interviewing and observing Theme Day participants is utilised to support the answers of the research questions. The research results of this study have shown that St Alban's College successfully managed to implement computer-integrated Theme Days. The College broke the barriers between subjects; learners participated in a learning experience that is closer to reality than just another 'thumb suck' educational experience. The concept of group work has been introduced to learners, and they are allowed to be creative, lateral thinkers and problem solvers. A small committee of learners gained managerial skills, while College graduates who are entering the job market are equipped with the necessary cross-curricular life skills to cope in today's technological advanced world / Thesis (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2004. / Curriculum Studies / MEd / Unrestricted

Morero wa poletiki mo diterameng tsa Setswana tse di phasaladitsweng pele le morago ga 1994Ralekgari, Cannie K 17 July 2007 (has links)
The theme of politics has been popular among authors of African language literary works in the past years. In Setswana literature authors often explore this theme in dramas. Among those scholars who have discussed political themes in Setswana dramas are K.Mogapi (1985) and J.S.Shole (1988). The aim of this dissertation is to analyze politics in Setswana dramatic works. This mini-dissertation uses three concepts, namely defininition, interpretation and classification in its analysis of Setswana dramas. Furthermore, this dissertation has selected an adapted narratological model, which stresses topic as highly significant in understanding the content level of a text, as it links the events of the content coherently. This model also highlights theme as the most important aspect of the compositional level, as it links the events of the plot. The adapted narratological models also emphasises atmosphere when discussing style. These three levels are important when discussing politics in Setswana drama. Because this research investigates political drama, a few concepts such as politics and society, politics and democracy, and politics and literature are explained. The main aim of this dissertation is to analyze politics in Setswana dramatic works. This mini-dissertation discusses the theme of politics in Setswana drama according to three selected periods, namely (a) the period 1930-1993, which is represented by the drama MotswaseleII (1945) by L.D.Raditladi, (b) the period 1994-1995, which is represented by the drama Kaine le Abele (1995) by G.Mokae and (c) the period 1996-2002, which is represented by the drama Diterama tsa ga Zakes Mda (2002) translated into Setswana by P.M.Sebate. The results of the investigation can be summarized as follows: During the period 1930-1993, authors tend to write about traditional politics, that is, chieftainship, which is passed on by birthright. In his drama MotswaseleII, Raditladi uses a number of techniques in the development of his message of looking down upon traditional governance or leadership. During the period 1994-1995, which is represented by the drama Kaine le Abele, Setswana drama deals with modern or contemporary politics, and tends to show or depict the cruelty of the then apartheid South African government. While examining the period 1996-2002, which is represented by a collection of dramas by Mda, three short dramas were selected. In the drama ‘Re tla opelela lefatshe la borrarona’, prominent techniques are rhetoric question, motif, flashback and contrast. At the plot level of the drama ‘Mantswe a lefifi a a lela’, Mda deployed several prominent techniques to further the development of the theme of politics in his text, but this dissertation has selected only two main techniques, which are tragedy and ellision. In the drama ‘Tsela’, the author has used a number of techniques, but this dissertation has selected two pronounced techniques, which are complication of events and symbolism. Lastly, the findings of this research demonstrate the usefulness of the classification of Setswana political dramas, written up to now, according to three periods, namely (a) the period 1930-1993, (b) the period 1994-1995, and (c) the period 1996-2002. / Dissertation (MA (African Languages))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / African Languages / unrestricted

Francouzské vytýkací konstrukce a jejich protějšky v češtině a ve španělštině / French cleft sentences and their counterparts in Czech and in SpanishDubišarová, Zdislava January 2019 (has links)
French cleft sentences and their counterparts in Czech and in Spanish The aim of this thesis is to describe the impact of the thematic-rhematic structure to the occurrence of cleft sentences in French language using the theory of functional sentence perspective, also, this thesis searches possible Czech and Spanish equivalents of this structure in literature. In both of these languages exist cleft sentences, however we can also find other ways in how to divide the sentence to the theme and rheme parts, which, also means various ways on how to translate this French structure. Within the theory of functional sentence perspective we will describe the differences between the syntax of these three languages which imply the use of different linguistic resources to connect the language utterance to the context and also to emphasize one constituent of the sentence. One of the aims of this thesis is to find and describe actually used translations of this structure from French language to Czech language and to Spanish language, their variability, frequency depending on the type of text and last but not least, other factors affecting the choice of the translation. The thesis is aiming to connect the findings from theoretical and practical part so we can find out which language resources are possible to be...

But, that’s how they talk in movies so it’s only fair! : Three Teachers’ Perspectives on the Emergence of Slang in Student Assignments in Swedish Upper-Secondary SchoolsHernandez Pérez, Adrian January 2020 (has links)
Social media, movies and games all have something in common – they all have a tendency to foster slang. Adolescents of today consume these mediums virtually every day, and thus they easily adopt these slang terms faster than any other group. As they are influenced by the slang and informal style used in these mediums, this type of language use may become dominant and spill over on their academic English. The main objective of this study is to investigate the opinions of three Swedish upper-secondary EFL teachers through qualitative interviews. In the interviews, the teachers presented their opinions in relation to whether the usage of slang is evident in their students’ assignments as well as their opinions on the potential possibilities and challenges involved in working with slang in the classroom. The teachers noticed an emergence of informal language, and slang to a certain extent, in their students’ assignments. Profanities occurred as well, albeit more rarely and more so through speech. The teachers emphasized the importance of addressing slang by way of marking or discussion. They mostly saw the benefits of working with slang as a theme in the classroom due to it potentially being a fun learning experience and an opportunity to learn about cultural differences in the English-speaking world. However, the challenges were that it requires a certain amount interest from the teacher and it may take time that could be spent working on other goals.

The War Within: Mental Health Rhetoric in NF’s Rap LyricsArmstrong, Heidi 01 December 2019 (has links)
More celebrities have been opening up about the mental illness (MI) journey, despite its stigmatized status in society. This shift has become popular with some rap artists, including Kanye West, Logic, and NF. However, little research exists on mental health rhetoric in the rap industry. In this project, I contributed to filling this gap by looking at the lyrics of American rapper, NF. Because his music is rising popularity and heavily focused on MI experience, NF was a worthy rhetor to study. I used Fantasy Theme Analysis to discover the fantasy themes present in NF’s album The Search. These fantasy themes present bind together to create a rhetorical vision of how NF experiences an internal war because of his MI. NF’s experiences may be shared by his listeners that also deal with the complexities of MI and its associated stigma. By talking about his MI experiences openly and honestly, NF and other celebrities can use their public platform to increase feelings of belongingness and reduce feelings of self-stigma.

Klimatkrisen och Dagens Nyheter : Hur rapporterar svensk nyhetsmedia om en av vår generations största utmaningar? / The climate crisis and Dagens Nyheter : How does swedish news media cover one of the greatest challenges of our generation?Persson, Alexzandra, Villa, Johanna January 2021 (has links)
In October 2020 Peter Wolodarski, the editor-in-chief of the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter (DN), announced that he wanted to improve the news coverage of the climate crisis. The aim of this study is to investigate whether DN has changed their way of reporting on the climate crisis through text and pictures within six months, and if so what those changes are. Framing theory is central in this study as it identifies the usage of generic and theme specific frames in DN’s articles. This is done by comparing all articles in September 2020 and March 2021 that contain the topic “climate crisis” published on their online service. The usage of pictures was also studied for additional context. In order to study this the methods qualitative text analysis and semiotic image analysis were used. To provide results the data then underwent a quantitative analysis as well as qualitative analysis. The findings of the study show that DN has shifted their usage of generic frames, meaning a change in which scale the climate crisis is portrayed, and an increased and widened usage of specific frames in their articles. However, the usage of pictures has not changed notably. In conclusion, does DN in fact seem to have changed their overall reporting on the climate crisis within the studied period. The study contribution is an added understanding of papers reporting on the clime crisis online as well as media’s usage of frames and how those can change in a relatively short period of time.
