Ali, Lana, By, Emilia January 2023 (has links)

Adoption and Implementation of Hospital IT Systems in Ambulatory Surgical Care

Lundgren, Tina January 2022 (has links)
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to receive an understanding for how to enable higher rates of adoption implementation success of hospital IT (HIT) systems in ambulatory surgical care settings.   Method - The study is an explorative deductive multiple case-study, incorporating 15 ambulatory surgical centers situated in Sweden, Germany, and the United States. In total, 24 interviews were conducted with managers and users at the selected ASCs in three waves and analyzed through thematic analysis.   Findings - The study resulted in the identification of six barriers and eight enablers in the adoption- and implementation phase of HIT systems. In addition, an implementation framework was developed based on the findings from RQ1 and RQ2, with critical activities to execute to facilitate adoption- and implementation success of HIT systems in ASCs.   Theoretical contribution - This study adds to the literature by identifying new barriers and enablers in HIT adoption and implementation characterizing ambulatory surgical centers. Furthermore, the findings extend on previous literature by presenting an new all-encompassing implementation framework, showing the necessity to approach the implementation process as a whole process-improvement project for successful HIT adoption and implementation.  Managerial implications - This study emphasizes the important role managers in ambulatory surgical centers hold in facilitating successful HIT implementation and provides managers with a practical implementation framework to serve as a roadmap to guide them in achieving a successful implementation of HIT systems.   Limitations and future research - The study is limited to investigating adoption- and implementation of HIT systems (EHR, EMR, HIS) in the context of ambulatory surgical centers. Future studies can explore the identified barriers and enablers in more ambulatory surgical settings and extend upon the developed implementation framework.

Construction Industry Hesitation in Accepting Wearable Sensing Devices to Enhance Worker

Fugate, Harrison M 01 June 2022 (has links) (PDF)
The construction industry is one of the most unsafe industries for workers in the United States. Advancements in wearable technology have been proven to create a safer construction environment. Despite the availability of these devices, use within the construction industry remains low. The objective of this research is to identify and analyze the causes behind the reluctance of the construction industry to implement two specific wearable safety devices, a biometric sensor, and a location tracking system. Device acceptance was analyzed from the perspective of the user (construction field labor) and company decision makers (construction managers). A modified unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model was developed specific to barriers commonly found within technology adoption in the construction industry including: perceived performance expectancy, perceived effort expectancy, openness to data utilization, social influence, data security, and facilitating conditions. A structured questionnaire was designed to test for association between the mentioned constructs and either behavioral intention or actual use. The questionnaire went through an expert review process, and a pilot study was conducted prior to being distributed to industry. Once all data was received Pearson chi-squared analysis was used to test for association between the constructs. A minority (46%) of labor respondents would not agree to voluntarily use the biometric wearable sensing device. Constructs associated with this finding included perceived performance expectancy, perceived effort expectancy, and social influence. A majority (59%) of labor respondents would not agree to voluntarily use the location tracking wearable sensing device. Constructs associated with this finding included perceived performance expectancy, social influence, and data security. A majority (56%) of management respondents would not implement the biometric wearable sensing device. Constructs found to be associated with this finding included perceived performance expectancy, openness to data utilization, and social influence of the client. A supermajority (68%) of management respondents would not implement the location tracking wearable sensing device. Constructs found to be associated with this finding include perceived performance expectancy, perceived effort expectancy, openness to data utilization, social influence, and data security. This study will aid in the successful implementation of wearable sensing devices within the construction industry. Findings from this study can be used to aid those hoping to implement wearable sensing devices by identifying causes of wearable sensing device rejection. The results of this study can be used by both project managers and health and safety professionals to aid in device acceptance by field labor, and by those whose goal is to increase device use among construction firms.

Halses, Anton, Essinger, Filip January 2021 (has links)
As the workplace becomes increasingly digital, tasks have shifted from being physically demanding to instead digitally processing knowledge and information. Employees are therefore regarded as knowledge workers and for them to succeed in the digital workplace, they place high demands on IT systems that encourage communication, collaboration and document management. To meet the knowledge workers needs, it has become increasingly common to implement collaboration platforms. However, organizations often implement collaboration platforms without further thought about how they should be used. At the same time, there is no knowledge of previous research that shows what factors make employees use collaboration platforms. The purpose of the thesis is therefore to investigate which factors lead to IT accustomed knowledge workers in the IT consulting industry using the collaboration platform in the digital workplace. By examining knowledge workers' perceptions of their use, we hope to be able to find answers to the factors that contribute to the use of collaboration platforms. The thesis applies a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews on ten IT accustomed knowledge workers divided into two organizations in the IT consulting industry. To consider socio-technical aspects of use, empiricism has been analyzed with a conceptual model that integrates Theory of planned behavior and Technology acceptance model. Our results show that attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, perceived usefulness and perceived ease-of-use play an influential role in the use of collaboration platforms. At the same time, subjective norms and perceived usefulness are proposed to be the factors that have the strongest impact on use.

Rexhepllar, Ellmedin, Zawahri, Mohamed, Valenta, Anton January 2022 (has links)
Introduction: The purpose of an auditor's work is the same going decades back but the means of the auditing process changes in line with digitization. The process has developed through digital systems performing audit activities automatically whilst also storing the majority of the information an auditor needs in digital form. The integration of digitization with auditors still brings challenges and problems. Digitization can be a very costly investment for companies whilst it also becomes a question of how employees adapt to modern technology. Purpose: The purpose of the essay is to study digitization within the auditing industry. This is to better understand how digitization contributes to efficiency in the audit process. Method: The study is based upon an inductive approach to contribute a deeper understanding within this topic. A qualitative method was also used where semi-structured interviews were conducted with active working auditors within the four biggest auditing companies in order to fulfill the purpose. Conclusion: The study shows that the efficiency of the audit process is achieved through the automation of its standardized tasks. This allows the auditor to focus on more essential tasks that require higher skills and cannot be automated. It will be important for companies to regard the importance of internal training and prove the benefits to be able to use digitization within auditing in an effective way.
