Americké způsoby válčení a strategická kultura: reflexe v domácí a zahraniční kinematografii / American Ways of War and Strategic Culture: A Reflection in Domestic and Foreign Cinematography

Kondrótová, Katarína January 2020 (has links)
American Ways of War and Strategic Culture: A Reflection in Domestic and Foreign Cinematography Katarína Kondrótová Abstract This thesis examines the portrayal of American strategic culture in movies from the USA and two countries with which the USA has been in conflict with - Vietnam and Afghanistan. The research focuses on comparing them with official US strategies and contrasting the different national portrayals among themselves. The aim is to discover how the USA and its way of war is depicted at home and abroad through movies - a popular medium with the power to shape perceptions. The research is anchored in the international relations theory of post-structuralism and the concepts of strategic culture and national ways of war. They serve as a lens through which the most popular war movies from each country are analyzed. The findings showed that American movies were more precise in depicting their real-life strategic approaches and tended to be more derogatory in their portrayal of their adversaries. They also showed a more critical depiction of US conduct in Vietnam compared to Afghanistan. When it comes to the foreign movies, Vietnamese films were more critical of the USA than Afghan films, but not as disdainful of the enemy as the USA. Afghan depictions exhibited the dual nature of their opinion of...

Mateo Cielo, Keliluz De Jazmin 14 May 2021 (has links)
The pandemic caused by covid-19 has created an uncertain stage for independent cinema, forcing it to explore other exhibition opportunities with streaming as the protagonist. With this background and in a digital environment, identifying the gaps in access to the international market for Peruvian films turns out to be a topic of current interest. The present study contributes to identify the difficulties faced by independent Peruvian films to access the main platforms (Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Movistar). The methodology used is based on semi-structured interviews with Peruvian filmmakers who have had the experience of exhibiting their films via streaming. In order to better understand the object of study, an in-depth interview was conducted with Guarango Cine y Video, a production company specialized in post-production and preparation of films for digital platforms. For the analysis of results, the classification of technical, economic, production and sociocultural difficulties is proposed. These four categories and their incidence in the dissemination of films are the central focus of the study. The main results obtained from the research suggest that economic issues and the lack of knowledge or projection about the distribution possibilities are the principal and transversal difficulties faced by independent Peruvian filmmakers to exhibit on streaming platforms. / Tesis

Andrieux, Nicolas 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis aims to analyze and put into perspective the presence, in the early 2020s, of Doris Wishman’s films in the catalogs of cinephile video-on-demand platforms MUBI and Criterion Channel. The director was working in the taboo and discredited genre of sexploitation. She had no pretensions to the auteur-oriented positioning of the two VOD sites. The phenomenon under study is therefore a shift of her cinema towards a new sphere of reception. To understand what’s at stake, this thesis proposes a double field research. First, it will study how Criterion Channel and MUBI appropriate and promote these films among their subscribers. It will then discuss the findings through interviews with streaming professionals and Doris Wishman specialists. More broadly, this analysis seeks to understand how a viewers’s experience can differ depending on the viewing context, and how a film can be diverted from its original intention.

Lost & Found Videothek Non-Ubiquitous Video Library for Serendipitous Retrieval of Movies. A Design Exploration for the Introduction of Folksonomy in the Physical Space

Di Giovanni, Bianca January 2017 (has links)
Lost&Found Videothek is the concept for an interactive video library thought for users engaged in an exploratory research mode, in which content is organized according to a collaborative, subjective and implicit indexing system for the enhancement of serendipity. This idea was the result of a design-based research with a user-centered approach in the field of information retrieval. With the use of design methods such as heuristic UX evaluation, co-sketching, and other original design experiments, the project aimed at identifying the most valuable qualities of physical and digital libraries in order to integrate them within one retrieval system.
