Apresentando as partidas: o ordinário e o infraordinário em Georges Perec e Roberto Bolaño / Presenting the departures: the ordinary and infraordinary in Georges Perec and Roberto Bolaño

André Carneiro Ramos 28 March 2014 (has links)
This thesis proposes the study of relations between linfra-ordinaire method of observing the everyday, developed by Georges Perec, focusing on the novels La Vie mode d' emploi (1978 ), Perec 's own, and Los detectives salvajes (1998 ), Roberto Bolaño. The aim is, first, to defend the idea that Bolaño was a kind of original plagiarist Perec, recognizing the novel La Vie mode d' emploi resonances for the production of his most celebrated work. Secondly it makes an analogy between literary production and immanence of the ordinary, especially the theory oulipiana (Oulipo - Ouvroir of Littérature Potentielle, sort of Sewing Room of Potential Literature) as a combinatory art. Finally, pointing out similarities and differences between these authors, we defend the thesis that, despite cultural and geographical distances, we can correlate them by way potentiate the objects in their descriptions, revisit the past, and attempt to subvert the literary tradition. It can be stated that the possible relations between Perec Bolaño and go back to narrative revolution of the 70s, with prose both rasurando certain aesthetic horizon. In this novels visualized a kind of literary puzzle. All these possibilities of reading, interpretation and combination are listed in these works of writers. Thus, we believe that with Georges Perec linfra-ordinaire method can better understand and interpret the writings of Roberto Bolaño some

As psicoses ordinárias e suas invenções / The ordinary psychosis and his inventions

Simone Lessa Chaves 06 February 2013 (has links)
This dissertation is proposed to investigate the common psychoses and their inventions. We left the impasses of our clinical practice for the differential diagnosis in order to identify what are the main concepts used in reference to it. Especially apuramos how these concepts are shown operating in possible treatment of psychosis. In order to clarify the concept of psychosis in psychoanalysis favors the common understanding of psychosis. We deduce that the psychoses, broadly, have a multifaceted aspect and in this sense, that the ordinary psychoses belong to the diversity of the field. The latter have a presentation discrete elementary phenomena. Although psychosis is not an ordinary category of Jacques Lacan, then used to establish what can be deduced from the Lacanian clinic, extracted from a unique perspective of the author. Lacan makes us move towards the idea of a treatment that focuses on a significant new invention that fulfills the function of sinthome exemplified from elaborations on James Joyce and the Borromean knot. The sinthome is a device invented to sustain the Borromean knot which is composed of separate instances of imaginary, symbolic and real. We assume that the more specific psychoses ordinary is occurring in the way of his inventions mooring Borromean knot, or arise as compensation the foreclosure of the Name of the Father. Our data indicate that the notion of compensation or substitutive that involve psychosis ordinary produces a unique way of ascertaining their singularities, facilitating not only the diagnosis but also the direction of treatment.

Between the event and the ordinary : climate crises and the ecologies of everyday life in the California desert

Vine, Michael David January 2017 (has links)
The notion of an environmental crisis or catastrophe conjures connotations of rupture, emergency, and impermanence: an intermediary moment of chaos in which the normal order of things collapses in on itself only to be brought back to life—or “recovered”—after the crisis is finished. It is by definition an event out of the ordinary, which in turn is idealised as the realm of routine, repetition, and the reproduction of the social order. But how might such crises permeate the body, home, and other ecologies of everyday life? And how might these ecologies be marshalled and transformed in a time of unfolding change? California is currently caught in a cascade of intersecting environmental crises, erupting most spectacularly with the state’s “historic” drought, which lasted from 2011 to 2017 and peaked in 2014/2015. Alongside the drought and its second order ramifications like wild fires and dust storms, the local manifestations of a changing climate are converging to generate among Californians a sense of near-constant crisis that is both powerful and widespread. Based on thirteen months' fieldwork from June 2014 to July 2015 in the arid lands of Central and Southern California, this thesis examines everyday lived experiences of space and time amidst this scene of instability and uncertainty. Each chapter tracks from a different vantage point the ways in which people are experimenting with the material, practical, and symbolic elements of “the ordinary” in response to the discontinuities introduced into daily life by forces beyond their control. It is my assertion that these ongoing and open-ended practices are poorly captured by the concept of “recovery”—a recurrent figure in the anthropology of disaster—which strongly suggests a telos of return to some or another pre-disaster way of life. The central argument of the thesis, then, is that these processes of experimentation must be understood in an analytical framework that embraces rather than disavows the mutual absorption of the ordinary and the event. As such, the thesis examines the improvisational as well as the habitual aspects of everyday life, whilst also directing attention to the generative as well as destructive dimensions of environmental crisis. Sure enough, environmental crises can incite shock and trauma in those that live through them. At their most extreme, they may also reduce life to a state of bare survival. Yet my interlocutors also took great pride in their collective capacities not only to “weather the storm” but also to invent new modes of self-sufficiency in response to their altered physical circumstances. In doing so, they all drew heavily upon images of California’s past in order to make sense of their present and chart paths for future action. As such, the thesis will contribute to anthropologies of disaster, the ordinary, and historical imagination and practice in the contemporary United States.

Investindo no conflito : a correção pelo outro construindo discordâncias agravadas

Loder, Letícia Ludwig January 2006 (has links)
This study is aimed at characterizing the occurrence of other-correction in disagreement sequences by focusing on its implication to the sequence and its particularities in relation to other methods for disagreeing. Based on the framework of Conversation Analysis, within which the relationship between other-correction and disagreement has been pointed out, though not yet accounted for in detailed analysis, roughly eight hours of daily interaction were recorded, and instances of other-correction in disagreement sequences were identified. Othercorrections were observed to be implicated in the beginning, middle or end of disagreement sequences, focusing not only on trouble in an item/expression in previous turn, but implying crucially the questioning of the presentation of previous speaker as knowledgeable about the topic. The orientation to preference for disagreement as the sequence progressed was also observed, evidencing participants’ orientation to aggravate the dispute. In comparison to other methods for disagreeing, other-correction was observed to be more directly opposed to previous turn, to imply the opponent’s position as necessarily invalid, to allow the monitoring of moves to abort the sequence (when this is the case), and to necessarily impute lack of authority on the topic to the interlocutor. Other-correction is concluded to be a method engendering much more aggravation than other methods for disagreeing, evidencing the orientation of participants to invest in, rather than mitigate, the opposition.

Oncolytic Viral and Immunotherapy Models Combined with Strategies to Ameliorate Cancer Burden

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: Combination therapy has shown to improve success for cancer treatment. Oncolytic virotherapy is cancer treatment that uses engineered viruses to specifically infect and kill cancer cells, without harming healthy cells. Immunotherapy boosts the body's natural defenses towards cancer. The combination of oncolytic virotherapy and immunotherapy is explored through deterministic systems of nonlinear differential equations, constructed to match experimental data for murine melanoma. Mathematical analysis was done in order to gain insight on the relationship between cancer, viruses and immune response. One extension of the model focuses on clinical needs, with the underlying goal to seek optimal treatment regimens; for both frequency and dose quantity. The models in this work were first used to estimate parameters from preclinical experimental data, to identify biologically realistic parameter values. Insight gained from the mathematical analysis in the first model, allowed for numerical analysis to explore optimal treatment regimens of combination oncolytic virotherapy and dendritic vaccinations. Permutations accounting for treatment scheduled were done to find regimens that reduce tumor size. Observations from the produced data lead to in silico exploration of immune-viral interactions. Results suggest under optimal settings, combination treatment works better than monotherapy of either type. The most optimal result suggests treatment over a longer period of time, with fractioned doses, while reducing the total dendritic vaccination quantity, and maintaining the maximum virotherapy used in the experimental work. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Applied Mathematics for the Life and Social Sciences 2016

A Mathematical Journey of Cancer Growth

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: Cancer is a major health problem in the world today and is expected to become an even larger one in the future. Although cancer therapy has improved for many cancers in the last several decades, there is much room for further improvement. Mathematical modeling has the advantage of being able to test many theoretical therapies without having to perform clinical trials and experiments. Mathematical oncology will continue to be an important tool in the future regarding cancer therapies and management. This dissertation is structured as a growing tumor. Chapters 2 and 3 consider spheroid models. These models are adept at describing 'early-time' tumors, before the tumor needs to co-opt blood vessels to continue sustained growth. I consider two partial differential equation (PDE) models for spheroid growth of glioblastoma. I compare these models to in vitro experimental data for glioblastoma tumor cell lines and other proposed models. Further, I investigate the conditions under which traveling wave solutions exist and confirm numerically. As a tumor grows, it can no longer be approximated by a spheroid, and it becomes necessary to use in vivo data and more sophisticated modeling to model the growth and diffusion. In Chapter 4, I explore experimental data and computational models for describing growth and diffusion of glioblastoma in murine brains. I discuss not only how the data was obtained, but how the 3D brain geometry is created from Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. A 3D finite-difference code is used to model tumor growth using a basic reaction-diffusion equation. I formulate and test hypotheses as to why there are large differences between the final tumor sizes between the mice. Once a tumor has reached a detectable size, it is diagnosed, and treatment begins. Chapter 5 considers modeling the treatment of prostate cancer. I consider a joint model with hormonal therapy as well as immunotherapy. I consider a timing study to determine whether changing the vaccine timing has any effect on the outcome of the patient. In addition, I perform basic analysis on the six-dimensional ordinary differential equation (ODE). I also consider the limiting case, and perform a full global analysis. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Applied Mathematics 2016

About ten years the Federal Government of Brazil created the Cultura Viva (Living Culture) program. It enabled the State to support financially civil society organizations that had developed cultural works in communities across the country. Along with the resources the program developed, in parallel, another action, Cultura Digital (Digital culture), intended to bring the tools of digital technology for people who have never had access to them. As a result of these initiatives were produced short films. These films were characterized by the presence of the image of the ordinary person. The creation of this type of cultural product was benefited by state initiative, however, it was inserted within a historical, political and cultural construction whose research was necessary for this image understood to be understood by its importance: it is the expression of emancipation the ordinary person and not just as a consumer of culture, it identifies them as the protagonists of the society and recognizes their vital role in its organization / Este trabalho visou tratar da imagem da pessoa comum nos filmes dos Pontos de Cultura de Natal/RN. Pratiques plurielles d'une petite ferme au Pays Basque / Mosaic hosting as a sensitive relationship to the World Multiple practices of a small farm in the Basque Country / Harrera mosaikoa munduarekiko harreman sentibera gisa Euskal Herriko etxalde ttipi baten praktika anitzak

Duhau, Anita 15 December 2016 (has links)
Farms attract new populations. They come in search of healthier food, for rural holidays and even to live and work. A visit rarely leaves people indifferent. “What is happening?” and “How does it work?” when a farm hosts visitors has become the problem of this research. The epistemology to which it belongs comes from the enactment of a relationship with the World that allows the development of co-emergence of the perceived and the perceiver, allied with incompleteness. “Hosting oneself” is therefore akin to setting in motion, a dance of corporeality. The body that serves as support for the empirical research is a situation of hosting at the farm where the author is also the farmer. The methodology adopted is essentially from the perspective of the first person, integrating rules by analogy and intricate hierarchies. The result is the proposition of a five-pointed star model of mosaic hosting. This modelisation of a “host oneself” - by and with a renewed sensitivity - integrates relaxation and the intensity of acts. The modelisation itself puts into question the implementation of hosting facilities on farms, but also outsideof farms, and encourages the field of possibilities to be opened. / Jende berri bat erakartzen du laborantza etxaldeak.
