"Mobilen - En extra kompis" : En kvalitativ studie av mobilanvändning bland högstadieelever

Henriksson, Sarah, Rydhög, Klara January 2014 (has links)
This paper has aimed to explore the role that mobile phone plays in a group of young people's lives in school. We interviewed eight students at a secondary school and performed observations to get as clear a picture as possible of their mobile phone use. Previous research has shown that mobile's role has become more and more important and the social interaction that were previously more widely been face to face is now more likely to be through mobile phone. The mobile's impact on the individual and society has both positive and negative effects. The issues addressed concerns how students experience today's smartphone use, how they use their phones and how this affects social interaction. Even whether students have a need to be reachable and how they feel of the phone's impact? The sociological analysis of this paper is done using themes that deal with consumption, modernity, time and space, social interaction through the smartphone and the network society. The result shows that mobile phone plays a big role in young people's lives and social interactions to some extent limited by the mobile phone. Students feel that they must constantly be reachable and updated and may feel uneasy when the phone is not available.

Smlatic, Anita, Ulmheden, Marie January 2014 (has links)
Smokersgetincreasinglyless roomto smokeanditis becoming lesssociallyacceptable to smokeintoday's society. The purpose of ourpaper is to examinehowthe smokerexperiencingsocial normsandnegativity surroundingsmoking, andhow this affectsthem. Epistemologia e cultura no ensino de física: desvelando os conceitos de tempo e espaço / EPISTEMOLOGY AND CULTURE IN PHYSICS TEACHING: UNVEILING THE CONCEPTS OF TIME AND SPACE

Paulo Henrique de Souza 18 June 2014 (has links)
The main purpose of this research is to investigate the relation between epistemology and culture on the physics teaching. To show this, two concepts of base, time and space were studied on its cultural and multi-concept aspects. As a reference to this study, notions of profile and epistemological obstacle were used. In his work, The Philosophy of No, when the concept of mass was proposed and analyzed, Bachelard uses, within explanations of different philosophical schools which he was formed, elements of his own culture, as for example the conduct of the identified balance with his work on the post offices and chemistry labs. However, the cultural notion is not clearly taken further. So Paulo Freire\'s cultural action was adopted as a cultural reference, because our understanding is that the culture as human creation enables a profile analysis more focused with Bachelard\'s proposal. Besides, the levels of consciousness presented by Freire are reference to our analysis of the presence of physics in culture, which is also the aim of our work. The empiric study, which is one of our challenges, was made in two schools in the city of Guarulhos, one basic level and another one basic and superior levels. A total of 150 students took part on written form, but only 25 were interviewed. In the end, it is important to emphasize the epistemological profile in analyzing the concepts of time and space that were identified in this empiric study, as well as the presence and influence of culture as an important element on the constitutions of these conceptions, and the presence of physics on rational areas of these profiles.

Reconfiguring the universe : the contest for time and space in the Roman imperial cults and 1 Peter

Wan, Wei Hsien January 2016 (has links)
Evaluations of the stance of 1 Peter toward the Roman Empire have for the most part concluded that its author adopted a submissive or conformist posture toward imperial authority and influence. Recently, however, David Horrell and Travis Williams have argued that the letter engages in a subtle, calculated (“polite”) form of resistance to Rome that has often gone undetected. Nevertheless, discussion of the matter has remained largely focused on the letter’s stance toward specific Roman institutions, such as the emperor, household structures, and the imperial cults. Taking the conversation beyond these confines, the present work examines 1 Peter’s critique of the Empire from a wider angle, looking instead to the letter’s ideology or worldview. Using James Scott’s work to think about ideological resistance against domination, I consider how the imperial cults of Anatolia and 1 Peter offered distinct constructions of time and space—that is, how they envisioned reality differently. Insofar as these differences led to divergent ways of conceiving the social order, they acquired political valences and generated potential for conflict. 1 Peter, I argue, confronted Rome on a cosmic scale with its alternative construal of time and space. For each of the axes of time and space, I first investigate how it was constructed in cultic veneration of the emperor, and then read 1 Peter comparatively in light of the findings. Although both sides employed similar strategies in conceptualizing time and space, they parted ways on fundamental points. We have evidence that the Petrine author consciously, if cautiously, interrogated the imperial imagination at its most foundational levels, and set forth in its place a theocentric, Christological understanding of the world.

Scale and exile: the portrait of the Kurdish question in the theory of democratic confederalism

Kermanian, Sara 31 August 2017 (has links)
This research examines the relation of scalar arrangements of the statist political orders and the formation of the condition of exile, exemplified in the case of the Kurdish statelessness through a critical reading of Abdullah Öcalan's theory of democratic confederalism. This reading, I will argue, permits understanding the scalar implications of what I call the tyranny of the present of the state. The tyranny of the present refers to the tendency of statist formations to expand the domination of their metaphysical presence through attempting to turn their present into the future of those who are considered less developed and aiming to prevent the perception of any unpredictable future that might interrupt their presence. This temporal hegemony is imposed through a centralized and hierarchical scalar order that determines quantitative multiplication of the diversity of human societies and the order of authority of the structure that brings them together as a whole. Together the scalar-temporal arrangement of the structure implies the ways through which the presence of the state determines the condition of the impossibility of the presence of the stateless and the exclusion of the stateless determines the condition of the possibility of the presence of the state. I will argue that this is the desire to leave the aporetic condition of the state/statelessness binary that leads Öcalan to aim for the destruction of the state and the construction of a communalist structure that permits the non-exclusive existence of time’s pure being in itself. However, his solution, similar to the communalist approaches by whom he is influenced, is limited by his ignorance of the paradoxicality of the creation of communalism externally and the destruction of the state internally and by his underestimation of the state-generating forces of the of rules of securitization in the international system that is not based on communal values. / Graduate

PM Lebopa : Papetso ya Dikanegelotseka tsa Lebopa (Sepedi)

Magapa, Ntepele Isaac 10 January 2013 (has links)
In this dissertation Lebopa' s two short stories entitled Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe and Bomahlwabadibona are compared with each other. Groenewald is the first person to have pointed out the importance of these two detective short stories. By doing this he also pointed out the importance of Lebopa as a Sepedi author. The named two short stories have never been examined comprehensively. It was therefore decided that they would be compared to each other in this study. The study begins with a description of the concept 'detective story'. Stewart (1980: 12) states that this type of story deals with an investigator who tries to unravel a mystery. The Boileau - Narcejac and Groenewald classifications of these types of stories also receive attention. The Groenewald classification is used in this dissertation. Strachan and Mojalefa's opinion that a literary work consists of three levels forms the basis of the model used to analyse the short stories. Mojalefa refers to these three levels as 'content level', 'structure level' and 'style level'. 'Topic' and 'theme' are two basic concepts in this investigation. 'Topic' is relevant on a content level while 'theme' is important on a structure level'. The two stories were not analysed stylistically. The content of a text consists of four elements, namely characters, events, time and space, and the study of content concentrates on these four elements. Two main figures who are involved in a conflict with each other are identified in the investigation. The events are divided into three categories. The first category contains basic events and is exclusively determined by the topic. The second and third categories respectively contain relevant and coincidental events. The 'time' concept is subdivided into 'point of time' and 'lapse of time'. 'Place' includes amongst other things, 'geographic', 'socio-cultural' and 'symbolic place'. The analysis of the structural level relies heavily on the 'mini-framework' concept which involves the microstructure of a work. Attention is devoted to the title. Hereafter the investigation focused on the different parts of the structure i.e. the exposition, the development, the climax and the resolution. The structural analysis concentrates mainly on the author's use of literary techniques. The concept 'technique' is defined and the following techniques from Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe and Bomahlwabadibona are identified and discussed: repetition, shifting, frequency, dramatic irony, omission, focus, complication and deceit. The investigation is a functional analysis and not a taxonomic one, which means that the ways in which the techniques function also receive attention. The comparison between the two short stories reveals that they belong to two different kinds of detective stories. In Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe the unravelling of the mystery receive the most attention. In Bomahlwabadibona those events which gradually expose the cruelty of the antagonist and which deal with his punishment are most prominent. This is in accordance with Dresden and Vestdijk's description of the English and American detective story respectively. The positions of Ntlo ya monna yo mongwe and Bomahlwabadibona in relation to the rest of the Sepedi narrative genre is then precisely indicated. The concluding chapter is a summary. At the end of this chapter a brief allusion is made to Dresden and Vestdijk's opinion that the detective story is a modern fairytale. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / African Languages / unrestricted

Simultaneous Estimation and Modeling of State-Space Systems Using Multi-Gaussian Belief Fusion

Steckenrider, John Josiah 09 April 2020 (has links)
This work describes a framework for simultaneous estimation and modeling (SEAM) of dynamic systems using non-Gaussian belief fusion by first presenting the relevant fundamental formulations, then building upon these formulations incrementally towards a more general and ubiquitous framework. Multi-Gaussian belief fusion (MBF) is introduced as a natural and effective method of fusing non-Gaussian probability distribution functions (PDFs) in arbitrary dimensions efficiently and with no loss of accuracy. Construction of some multi-Gaussian structures for potential use in MBF is addressed. Furthermore, recursive Bayesian estimation (RBE) is developed for linearized systems with uncertainty in model parameters, and a rudimentary motion model correction stage is introduced. A subsequent improvement to motion model correction for arbitrarily non-Gaussian belief is developed, followed by application to observation models. Finally, SEAM is generalized to fully nonlinear and non-Gaussian systems. Several parametric studies were performed on simulated experiments in order to assess the various dependencies of the SEAM framework and validate its effectiveness in both estimation and modeling. The results of these studies show that SEAM is capable of improving estimation when uncertainty is present in motion and observation models as compared to existing methods. Furthermore, uncertainty in model parameters is consistently reduced as these parameters are updated throughout the estimation process. SEAM and its constituents have potential uses in robotics, target tracking and localization, state estimation, and more. / Doctor of Philosophy / The simultaneous estimation and modeling (SEAM) framework and its constituents described in this dissertation aim to improve estimation of signals where significant uncertainty would normally introduce error. Such signals could be electrical (e.g. voltages, currents, etc.), mechanical (e.g. accelerations, forces, etc.), or the like. Estimation is accomplished by addressing the problem probabilistically through information fusion. The proposed techniques not only improve state estimation, but also effectively "learn" about the system of interest in order to further refine estimation. Potential uses of such methods could be found in search-and-rescue robotics, robust control algorithms, and the like. The proposed framework is well-suited for any context where traditional estimation methods have difficulty handling heightened uncertainty.

Lumière et obscurité dans les Argonautiques d'Apollonios de Rhodes / Light and darkness in Apollonius Rodius' Argonautica

Wolff, Nadège 11 December 2018 (has links)
Through this thesis, we aim to prove the various roles played by light and darkness in Apollonius Rhodius'Argonautica. In the first part, a lexical study specifically explores the terms expressing the ideas of light and darkness, in comparison to the Homeric references. Our thematic also tackles the issue of the construction of space and time, a notorious one in the Hellenistic period. The epic's structure is indeed based on the light and darkness' duality, but the threat of darkness symbolizing chaos is never far from the Argonauts who constantly struggle with barbarians and on the contrary symbolize Greek enlightment and civilization. The light and darkness'couple also allows us to give a new perspective on heroism, which is a central issue in Apollonius'poem. Whereas Homeric warriors project martial light due to their armour's glistening, Jason appears as love-hero shining with his purple cloak, an Hellenistic artefact replacing Achilles'shield described in the Iliad. At the same time, we can observe a kind of empowerment on the feminine side during the scenes occuring at night. In the fourth and last part, light and darkness endorse a metapoetical value, as they build a new kind of epic, like a collection of brief literary pieces joined together by a common celebration of Apollo, god of both poetry and light. Apollonius'Argonautica can therefore be seen as a prefiguration of Philostratus'Imagines, as it is built around a succession of vivid poetical paintings.
