Step by step eigenvalue analysis with EMTP discrete time solutions

Hollman, Jorge 11 1900 (has links)
The present work introduces a methodology to obtain a discrete time state space representation of an electrical network using the nodal [G] matrix of the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP) solution. This is the first time the connection between the EMTP nodal analysis solution and a corresponding state-space formulation is presented. Compared to conventional state space solutions, the nodal EMTP solution is computationally much more efficient. Compared to the phasor solutions used in transient stability analysis, the proposed approach captures a much wider range of eigenvalues and system operating states. A fundamental advantage of extracting the system eigenvalues directly from the EMTP solution is the ability of the EMTP to follow the characteristics of nonlinearities. The system's trajectory can be accurately traced and the calculated eigenvalues and eigenvectors correctly represent the system's instantaneous dynamics. In addition, the algorithm can be used as a tool to identify network partitioning subsystems suitable for real-time hybrid power system simulator environments, including the implementation of multi-time scale solutions. The proposed technique can be implemented as an extension to any EMTP-based simulator. Within our UBC research group, it is aimed at extending the capabilities of our real-time PC-cluster Object Virtual Network Integrator (OVNI) simulator.

Rural demographic change over space and time - the case of Vilhelmina municipality

Yoshida Ahlin, Celia January 2015 (has links)
Since the 1960s the literature on demography of rural northern Sweden has focussed on 'decline' - noting loss of population, population ageing, yourth outmigration and other 'negative' demographic developments (Friedlander, 1969; Hjort, 2009; Stone 1971); recent studies suggest that such generalizations may overlook the diversity of experiences of rural areas (D. Carson and Koch, 2013; Cernic-Maly, Koch and Koch, 2014; Hedlund, 2014; Hoggart and Paniagua, 2001; Koch and Carson, 2012). The purpose of this thesis is to explore aspets of the diversity of experiences of demographic change in one part of rural northern Sweden, focusing on differences between villages and towns within a single municipality. Theoretically, the large body of scientific studies of 'rural' tend to be at macro-scale and from the 'urban' perspective, which might provide generalized and biased assumptions of 'rural'; this study may contribute to the understanding of 'rural' by describing it 'how it really is' and by looking into demographic diversity and change at the micro-scale. Practically, the thesis might assist local planners to take 'place-based' decisions when planning for the future of rural areas when deciding where to place schools, health centres, youth activities centres, playgrounds, or invest in economic opportunities, etc. Moreover, this thesis should answer the following research questions:  Q1: Is there diversity in demographic characteristics when comparing proximate locations in the Swedish rural setting? Q2: If there is, is it something that has recently emerged, or sothing that has been present for a long period of history? The thesis studied the case of Vilhelmina municipality, in this case defined by local government boundaries, in three stages: first, looked at how settlement patterns within the area have changed over time - where has there been population growth? Decline? Both? Neither? - using data from 1890, 1970 and 2015. Second, selected five individual locations (defined by village' borders) within the area that have featured at those points in time, and compared them in terms of age, sex, age dependency ratios, and child-woman rates. Third, accessed secondary historical data and interviewed key informants with knowledge of these places to check which events could have influenced shaping them over the time. The findings of the thesis were: 'fragmentedä development over time, differences between individual places at different time; differences between different places at the same time; local, regional, national and international events and trends are likely to have played a role in these results. According to the findings, I can conclude that even since the 1960s, not all locations in rural northern Sweden have had the same experience of 'decline'. Furthermore, not all places share the presumed characteristics of rural areas - i.e. some are younger and some are older, etc. Hence, even the same events influence proximate places in different ways depending on their specific location (e.g. near geographical feature that become more or less valued), their connections with other places (through economic activities, communications, family ties, etc), rules and regulations especially regarding land use, and availability of infrastructure. This thesis describes the demographics of a case in rural northern Sweden in the micro perspective related to temporal and spatial scales. This study provides empirical evidence and might support arguments about the importance of scale and diversity of rural conditions. Moreover, it emphasises, as Koch and Carson (2012) did, the need to understand the spatial scale at which assessments of rural demographic change are being made. Lastly, more academics should perform this genre of research, so that we move past incomplete messages and concepts about rural development that have dominated in northern Sweden since the 1960s.

Salvador

As a general objective, the challenges and the obstacles for the practice of teaching including the teaching of geography imposed to the schools, to the teachers and to students were analysed considering the context of a society that is completeley led by technological resources and the mainstream media. The theoretical approach is inscribed in the field of theoretical critic and follows the strand developed by Giroux (1983,1986,1988,1997). Starting from this theoretical carcase the concepts of school were considered as a public democratic sphere, intelectual, critical and transformer professors, resistence and possibilities. The nature of the approach is qualitative using the kind of method of descriptive study in a public school of Fortaleza city – CE. The collect of data occured in 2013 with documental analysis, bibliographical research, interviews according to the referred issue, application forms with questionnaires, observing the classrooms, schools spaces, and photografic registers. The study revealed that the organization of time and spaces in schools are inspired in a sequenced and disciplinar model in a routine that subdivides the time in equal periods of time for all. Coletiv time that reproduces a basic pattern of periods of work in class, coffee breaks, and acitivities of preparation for the teachers. The spaces like halls, sports court, classrooms, informatics classroom, are small and cramped and even without mentioning the shortage of pedagogical resources. In order to attend the demands prescribed in the academic books of geography, guidelines, and school parameters. It was also verified that the teachers use creative strategies to overcome the obstacles and challenges of the school. The teachers are mobilized by a critical language when United to a language of possibility makes them motivated to go on and don´t give up, and to face the daily challenges, trying to make the floor of the school a space of transformation. It was highlighted the possibility of the quality improvement about the teaching of geography in basic education, by the maximization of school environment and for the practical knowledge of the teachers.

When Camp becomes a Method : a conceptualization of conversational performatives and curatorial agencies within ‘the camp-eye’

Apelgren, L. Petersdotter January 2020 (has links)
The aim of following thesis is to demonstrate the potentials of reassessing camp into a question of method. While others have argued for the definition of camp to lie in: an aesthetic; a question of taste; the extravagant theatrical; the male gay sensibility; or as an expression of parody, this thesis suggests that camp is to be found in the performative act of readings. With emphasis on ‘decoding language’, ‘the signifier/signified’ and ‘the camp eye’ I will argue for the relevance of ‘camp as method’ and situate former stated in relation to Bhabha’s concept of ‘conversational art’; a deconstructional examination of values of aesthetic experiences set into dialogue. Demonstrating for such conceptualization three theoretical approaches and themes will be outlined. First, a historical overview of camp followed by a reassessment of camp into a method. Second, an examination of possible extensions to the concept of rereading strategies within camp, including theories on queer phenomenology; queer space and time; topias and non-places; theories of curatorial methods and its agencies. And last, I will do an analysis of Moyra Davey’s video Hemlock Forest and show how Davey’s use and reference towards Chantal Akerman can be read as camp and constitutes ‘camp as method’ according to suggested reassessment.

Framväxten av flexibla arbetsarrangemang : En kvalitativ studie om hur flexibla arbetsarrangemang har förändrats i organisationer / Emergence of flexible work arrangements : A qualitative study on how flexible work arrangement has changed in the organization

Aldenbro, Alicia, Hallén, Elin January 2022 (has links)
Background: The Covid-19 pandemic created a change in the work of organizations, as general advice was that employers should enable teleworking. This generated an intensification in the use of flexible work arrangements. FWA was previously not a priority approach in organizations, but it quickly became a necessity to be able to continue running businesses. FWA is made possible with the help of digital aids, and during the pandemic, the development of technology was also accelerated. Digital technology allows individuals to perform their work in alternative locations and at different times, this relationship is not regulated to the same extent as when organizations only work in the office. The increased use of FWA has had a positive effect on organizations, but it has also entailed new challenges. Purpose: The thesis aims to investigate and thereby increase the understanding of how employees in organizations experienced and worked with flexible work arrangements before, during and after the pandemic. Method: The study is based on a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews, through the interviews the authors have gained empiricism. This also collected secondary data from various sources such as scientific articles. Empirical and Conclusion: The respondents' answers to the interview questions are presented in the empirical work, where the authors highlight different quotes and summarize different points of view that are highlighted during the interviews. The conclusion highlights how crucial digital technology is for working with FWA, as well as what challenges and opportunities there are in working with FWA and how it can play out in the future.

O desafio moderno e o judiciário: ordem jurídica, tempo, espaço e atuação da justiça / The modern defiance and the judiciary: legal system, time, space and actuation of justice.

Pereira Junior, Ricardo 31 May 2010 (has links)
The judicial system is currently in a state of crisis. Structural and administration problems are generally given as the causes. The dissatisfaction with its working is, in fact, caused by new configurations of Law in modern society. This change requires revision of Judiciary patterns of work in order to solve the rise of changes and to answer the expectations of a globalized world, which increasingly operates at an accelerated pace. Our work introduces the Judiciary in context of the Liberal and Welfare State. We describe the changes in the nature of Law, now less prescriptive and inspired by principles. We also focus on changes in society, firstly the adoption of urgency within the pattern of work, and, secondly, the diminishing effect of globalization on the world. This new conception of law and society demands new ways of operation, incompatible to the traditional judicial way of work. Currently, the Judiciary has no strength with which to answer those changes. It is structured as a bureaucratic organ, and it is divided in to departments which do not communicate with each other. It also has a centralized and hierarchical administration, tending to paralysis. These problems could be solved by politic valorization of the judicial profession, which would grant greater scope for the judge to decide. Furthermore, administrative flexibility would help to reduce the bureaucratic nature of the Judiciary. In this way, the Judiciary could achieve open and transparent patterns of work, capable of answering the demands for quality and urgency in our modern society.
