'n Metabletiese ondersoek na Bruin professionele onderwysverenigings en onderwysvakbonde in the RSA met spesifieke verwysing na hul eenheidstrewe in die onderwysMuller, Gregorius Daniel 11 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / Organised trade unionism in the South African education
sector is a new phenomenon. In this study the emergence and development of Coloured professional
teacher associations and teacher trade unions is researched. Although Coloured teacher associations
like the Teachers' League were great exponents of professionalism, they nevertheless showed
characteristics of modern trade unionism.
The development of Coloured professional teacher associations and trade unions is discussed
against the background of their quest for teacher unity in South Africa. Since the establishment of
the Teachers' League in 1913, the policy of Coloured teacher organizations on teacher unity
underwent a remarkable change from mainly ethnic teacher unity (1913-1969) to unity across ethnic
divisions (since the late seventies). This policy shift is contextualised in the ever changing
political, social and economic milieu in South Africa.
Finally recommendations on the professional teacher association enterprise and teacher trade
unionism in South Africa is given.
onderwysvakbondwese in Suid Afrika nagevors.
ekonomiese klimaat in Suid-Afrika belig is.

This thesis examines the impacts of the restructuring of multinational enterprises on trade union strategies. Are local union strategies an outcome of national institutional embeddedness and organizational contingencies, or can unions in fact influence core elements of corporate decision-making vis-à-vis restructuring? This research speaks to major scholarly debates concerning economic globalization, corporate restructuring, and union organization. In terms of theory, this thesis addresses three large analytical approaches, these being: neo-institutionalism and opportunity structures; critical political economy and the question of union power; and critical economic geography in relation to contingencies, embeddedness, and competition across borders. Drawing from these three theories, this research proposes a new multidisciplinary model of analysis for research on union strategies.
In terms of methodology, this thesis is structured around four case studies of local unions in two countries (Canada and France) and a specific sector (automobile equipment manufacturers). Three qualitative sources are at the heart of this thesis: descriptive statistics, documentation from secondary sources, and semi-structured interviews (44), primarily focused union actors.
This thesis analyzes union strategies within and across jurisdictions to elucidate their ramifications for firms and workers, particularly in the context of restructuring. The principal contributions of this thesis touch on: 1. the impacts of power resources developed by local unions on institutional opportunity structures; 2. the importance of cognitive aspects of strategy and its implications for power in a multi-level context; and 3. the importance of social embeddedness and social relations between unions and employers; 4. the omnipresence of international/national/regional/local competition in the automobile equipment manufacturing sector; and 5. the importance of trade-offs and relationships between business players from the vantage point of contingency theory to understand the structural facets of local union action.
This research invites social actors to rethink their strategies concerning corporate restructuring. In particular, local unions should explore new strategic repertoires of action for responding the new challenges pertaining to economic change and restructuring.

Journalists and their union in São Paulo State: between the increasing distance and the desire for changeGhedini, Frederico Barbosa 19 June 2012 (has links)
This thesis investigates the relationship between journalists and the Professional Union of Journalists in São Paulo State based on empirical data and research conducted by the author who has more than 30 years of experience in the union movement. This piece examines the roots of distancing between the professional and the entity, a phenomenon that has slowly worsened since the 1980\'s. It has been pondered over whether this distance constitutes a decline or crisis, in concepts touched on in the work of Leôncio Martins Rodrigues (1999) to analyze the current global and Brazilian reality of the union movement, marked by the fall of the union taxes. Decline as a walk towards the end and crisis as a retreat, containing in itself the hope and possibility of bypassing from a critical capacity and the emergence of new and creative perspectives, strategies and political evils, in complex social contexts, changing and diverse. The author sees through the thinking of Henri Lefebvre (1981; 2006) and his critical analysis of reality coupled with social and political conflicts. He analyses the main changes in press and journalism, in the world and in Brazil. Amid these, he underlines the question of the de-politicization present in the contents of journalistic production as well as in the generations after the 1970\'s which turned to integrating the new social base of the workers, marked by renovation allied to the increasing precariousness of working conditions. In terms of working relations, the flexibility and the productive reorganization that engulfed the world in the last decade had a particular impact among journalists, a phenomenon which the author particularly examines with the exemplar case of the Folha Project, and the consequences of these processes in relation to the journalists, as well as in their ties with the union. The thesis presents in a wide portrait, a descriptive way of what is the Professional Union of Journalists in São Paulo State and their main initiatives and activities. Based on data and on respondents\' contribution, it outlines the profile of the professional journalist in São Paulo State and analyses the contents from the questionnaires. For this analysis an adaptation of the methodology proposed by Laurence Bardin (2010) was made. The development of this thesis points out new questions to be deepened in future academic research and contributes to discussion on the organization of a fundamental category to the strengthening of Brazilian democracy.

90's to 2002, as part of the processes of productive reorganization. These processes mean that
new forms of production administration and managing the work force have been created and they
have changed both working relationships and working conditions for those who work for

trabalhadoras e trabalhadores, contratados pelas empresas terceirizadas.

In 1971, the plateau of Larzac, up to then unknown, reaches an unexpected renown when the extension of the military camp located in its heart is announced. The local farmers enter into a protest, which during one decade (1971-1981), mobilizes around them a wide and disparate movement, instigated by the Larzac committees having spread in all France. The victory of 1981 does not mean the end of the activism of this renewed population. On the contrary, during the three following decades, the activist Larzac begins the improvement of land of its territory, but also the agricultural trade unionism and networks of international solidarity which lead to the altermondialism. With the emergence of the figure of José Bové, bridging the gap between the two periods, Larzac returns in the lime light. Its spectacular actions are in a certain continuity of the initial fight, whose actors perpetuate the memory. The memory of this past continues its legendary advance, well beyond the limits of the plateau…

The miners, the just wage and the mining company : perpectives of an Ubuntu reponse to the Marikana killingsBayat, Julieka 02 1900 (has links)
Text in English / This research focuses upon the killing on 16 August 2012, by the South African Police
Service, of miners working in Marikana, in the North West Province, in their struggle
for a just wage. This experience highlighted the ethical question of the relationship
between the employee and the employer. This research investigates this question by
reference to the evolution of the doctrine of the “just wage” and the “just price” in
Western moral philosophy. The investigation shows that this Western doctrine is a
significant basis for an ethical evaluation of the relationship between employee and the
employer.
However, the doctrine does require expansion by taking the woman as an
indispensable factor in labour relations. Also, it requires deepening by engaging in
dialogue with other philosophies of the world, in this particular case, the philosophy of
Ubuntu. The dialogue with Ubuntu is justified by the fact that the majority of the
miners, the actual diggers of the mineral wealth, are born into and nurtured through
the philosophy of Ubuntu, even if some may have reservations about it. The dialogue
reveals a specific philosophical issue, namely, a clash of the epistemological and
moral paradigms. The Ubuntu epistemological-ethical maxim of feta kgomo o tshware
motho (if and when one must choose between the continual accumulation of wealth
and the preservation of human life then one ought to opt for the latter) is fundamentally
at odds with capitalism, an economic system that elevates wealth and money to the
status of a deity. A resolution of this conflict is an ethical imperative. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / D. Litt. et Phil. (Philosophy)
