In this research we present some existing relationships between cyclic codes and discrete Fourier transform both local rings. For this, it is necessary to identify the groups of unit associated with each corresponding local ring. As a consequence, cyclic codes over these rings may be constructed. Next, we construct sequence generators by use of linear feedback shift register (LFSR), from generator polynomials whose coefficients belong either to finite field or to a local finite commutative ring with identity. Finally, the discrete Fourier transform is realized by use of the generator polynomial of cyclic codes over local rings / Mestrado / Telecomunicações e Telemática / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Purificação e caracterização das lectinas ACL-I e ACL-II da esponja marinha axinella corrugata, imunolocalização da ACL-I e avaliação do seu potencial como marcador de transformação celular / Purification and characterization of lectins ACL-I and ACL-II from the marine sponge Axinella corrugata, immunolocalization of ACL-I and its evaluation as marker of cellular transformation

Dresch, Roger Remy January 2008 (has links)
Two lectins, ACL-I and ACL-II, were purified from aqueous extracts of marine sponge Axinella corrugata, collected at Atlantic coastline of southern Brazil (Santa Catarina) by rabbit stroma-polyacrylamide gel affinity column, followed by size-exclusion chromatography on Ultrogel AcA 44. The analysis were performed, especially, on the study of lectin with greater hemagglutinating activity, ACL-I. Among the erythrocytes tested, ACL-I agglutinated, strongly, native rabbit, goat and dog erythrocytes, whose hemagglutinating activity was inhibited by N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, N-acetyl-Dmannosamine, N-acetyl-D-galactosamine and N, N’, N”- triacetylchitotriose. On the other hand, ACL-II agglutinated, preferentially, rabbit and dog erythrocytes, with its hemagglutinating activity inhibited by D-galactose, N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, N-acetyl- D-mannosamine, chitin, N, N’, N”- triacetylchitotriose and fetuin, but not by N-acetyl- D-galactosamine. Both lectins were weakly inhibited by N-acetyl-D-lactosamine. The hemagglutinating activity was independent of divalent cations and it was stable at large range of temperature and pH to ACL-I and ACL-II. ACL-I was resistent to enzymatic proteolysis, but lost 50 % of its activity in the presence of reducing or denaturant agents. This lectin presented a relative molecular mass of 82,300 estimated by SDS-PAGE in the presence or absence of 2-mercaptoethanol, without pre-heating, and it is constituted by six monomeric subunits of 13,900, showing disulphide bridges among them. By FPLC the relative molecular mass was 78,500. Similar to ACL-I, ACL-II showed one unique protein band by SDS-PAGE, in the absence of 2-mercaptoethanol and without pre-heating, whose relative molecular mass was estimated as 80,000 and by gel filtration as 78,000. The isoelectric focusing of ACL-I revealed the presence of one unique protein band with pI of 6.3 and the amino acid composition showed a prevalence of glycine, followed by aspartic acid/asparagine, glutamic acid/glutamine and alanine. Among the biological activities analysed, the ACL-I demonstrated chemotactic, mitogenic and cytotoxic activities, but not antioxidant. The immunohistochemical assays revealed that ACL-I is stored in vesicles, probably inside of spherulous cells of the marine sponge. The lectin showed to be a useful tool in the labelling of transformed cells of breast, colon, lung, ovary and bladder.

A aplicação das técnicas de filtro com transformada de Fourier mostrou robustez para eliminação de ruídos e extração do efeito de maré / Abstract: Tide effect is the name given to a phenomenon observed in the pressure data recorded in accumulations of fluid, including petroleum reservoirs, and that originates from the variation of the gravitational potential to which the masses are subjected. Tidal effects have been observed in petroleum reservoirs since the mid-seventies and even then the correspondence between the amplitude of the tidal effect and the characteristics of the reservoir has been cited. From the Maurice Biot poroelastic theory, methods were developed using the tidal effect to calculate reservoir parameters such as compressibility. The selective extraction of the tidal effect is an important phase of these methods. Fourier transform appears as a great resource for this purpose, since the tidal effect is a sinusoidal signal with well-known periods. The selective extraction of signals using the Fourier transform can also be important to assist in the determination of reservoir parameters, since the presence of the tidal effect may prevent or hinder the interpretation of the formation test from the diagnostic plot. This paper describes the poroelastic models to calculate reservoir compressibility and shows the Fourier transform application to extract tidal effect and noises observed in formation evaluation data. Three set of data recorded in real formation tests, performed in offshore wells, were used to extract the tidal effect and to estimate reservoirs compressibility. The results were compared to Hall correlation results. Moreover, poroelastic models results were compared with Hall correlation results. The Fourier transform technique has been successfully used to extract the tidal effect. Simulated pressure data were also used, which showed leakage complicating. The results show that it is possible to use the poroelastic models to calculate reservoir compressibility. The examples shown that Fourier transform techniques are robust to noise removal and tidal effect extraction / Mestrado / Reservatórios e Gestão / Mestre em Ciências e Engenharia de Petróleo

A Comparison of Three Methods of Detecting Test Item Bias

Monaco, Linda Gokey 05 1900 (has links)
This study compared three methods of detecting test item bias, the chi-square approach, the transformed item difficulties approach, and the Linn-Harnish three-parameter item response approach which is the only Item Response Theory (IRT) method that can be utilized with minority samples relatively small in size. The items on two tests which measured writing and reading skills were examined for evidence of sex and ethnic bias. Eight sets of samples, four from each test, were randomly selected from the population (N=7287) of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students enrolled in a large, urban school district in the southwestern United States. Each set of samples, male/female, White/Hispanic, White/Black, and White/White, contained 800 examinees in the majority group and 200 in the minority group. In an attempt to control differences in ability that may have existed between the various population groups, examinees with scores greater or less than two standard deviations from their group's mean were eliminated. Ethnic samples contained equal numbers of each sex. The White/White sets of samples were utilized to provide baseline bias estimates because the tests could not logically be biased against these groups. Bias indices were then calculated for each set of samples with each of the three methods. Findings of this study indicate that the percent agreement between the Linn-Harnish IRT method and the chisquare and transformed difficulties methods is similar to that found in previous studies comparing the latter approaches with other IRT methods requiring large minority samples. Therefore, it appears that the Linn-Harnish IRT approach can be used in lieu of other more restrictive IRT methods. Ethnic bias appears to exist in the two tests as measured by the large mean bias indices for the White/Hispanic and White/Black samples. Little sex bias was found as evidenced by the low mean bias indices of the male/ female samples and the fact that the male/female mean bias indices were lower than those of the White/White in 33% of the samples.

Byron's Shakespearean Imitations

Barber, Benjamin January 2016 (has links)
Though Byron is known for his provocative denials of the importance of Shakespeare, his public derogations of the early modern playwright are in fact a pose that hides the respect he had for the playwright’s powerful poetic vision, a regard which is recorded most comprehensively in the Shakespearean references of Don Juan. Byron imitated Shakespeare by repeating and adapting the older poet’s observations on the imitative nature of desire and the structure of emulous ambition as a source of violence. His appropriations make his work part of the modern shift away from earlier European societies, wherein ritual means of mitigating desire’s potentially inimical impact on human communities were supplemented with an increased reliance on market mechanisms to defer the effects of emulation and resentment. Finding himself among the first modern celebrities, Byron deploys Shakespeare’s representations of desire to trace the processes that produced the arc of his own fame and notoriety. Drawing on his deep knowledge of Shakespeare, Byron’s poetic vision—in its observations on the contagious nature of desire—exhibits elements of Shakespeare’s own vivid depictions of imitation as a key conduit for his characters’ cupidity, ambitions, and violence. Exploring how he plays with and integrates these representations into his letters, journals, poetry, and plays, my dissertation investigates Byron’s intuitions on the nature of human desire by focusing on his engagement with one of literature’s greatest observers of human behaviour, Shakespeare.

A multi-gene symbolic regression approach for predicting LGD : A benchmark comparative study

Tuoremaa, Hanna January 2023 (has links)
Under the Basel accords for measuring regulatory capital requirements, the set of credit risk parameters probability of default (PD), exposure at default (EAD) and loss given default (LGD) are measured with own estimates by the internal rating based approach. The estimated parameters are also the foundation of understanding the actual risk in a banks credit portfolio. The predictive performance of such models are therefore interesting to examine. The credit risk parameter LGD has been seen to give low performance for predictive models and LGD values are generally hard to estimate. The main purpose of this thesis is to analyse the predictive performance of a multi-gene genetic programming approach to symbolic regression compared to three benchmark regression models. The goal of multi-gene symbolic regression is to estimate the underlying relationship in the data through a linear combination of a set of generated mathematical expressions. The benchmark models are Logit Transformed Regression, Beta Regression and Regression Tree. All benchmark models are frequently used in the area. The data used to compare the models is a set of randomly selected, de-identified loans from the portfolios of underlying U.S. residential mortgage-backed securities retrieved from International Finance Research. The conclusion from implementing and comparing the models is that, the credit risk parameter LGD is continued difficult to estimated, the symbolic regression approach did not yield a better predictive ability than the benchmark models and it did not seem to find the underlying relationship in the data. The benchmark models are more user-friendly with easier implementation and they all requires less calculation complexity than symbolic regression.

Role of activator protein-1 (AP-1) family in RSV-transformed chicken embryonic fibroblasts (CEF)

Wang, Lizhen 05 1900 (has links)
<p> Proper gene expression programs cellular activities, while aberrant manipulation of transcription factors often leads to devastating consequences, such as cancer or cell death. The transcription factor family activator protein-1 (AP-1) plays an important role in many cellular activities including cell transformation, proliferation and survival (Shaulian and Karin 2002). However, little has been done to obtain a global view of the role of individual AP-1 members and how they cooperate in many cellular activities. We have discovered that blocking the AP-1 pathway by a c-Jun dominant negative mutant, TAM67, induced cell death in RSV-transformed primary chicken embryo fibroblasts (CEF), suggesting that AP-1 activity is vital for cell survival upon v-Src transformation. In addition, accumulation of cytoplasmic vesicles was observed in the cytoplasm of a proportion of RSV-transformed CEF expressing TAM67. Oil-red staining of these vesicles indicated the presence of lipid droplets in these cells, suggesting that the inhibition of AP-1 promotes the adipogenic conversion of v-Src transformed CEF. To understand the role of individual members of the AP-1 family, a retroviral-based shRNA expressing system was designed to stably downregulate individual AP-1 members. This retroviral-based RNAi system provided sustained gene downregulation of AP-1 family members. Reduction of the c-Jun protein level by shRNA induced senescence in normal CEF, while it modestly downregulated AP-1 activity in RSV -transformed CEF indicating that c-Jun is not the main component of the AP-1 complex in RSV-transformed CEF. Inhibition of JunD expression induced apoptosis and was deleterious to both normal and RSV-transformed CEF, suggesting that JunD is crucial for the survival of CEF. Transient express10n reporter-assays also showed that loss-of-function of JunD by shRNA dramatically repressed AP-1 activity. Hence JunD is the main component of the AP-1 complex that regulates the survival of CEF. Furthermore, we determined that loss of JunD expression resulted in an elevated level of tumour suppressor p53. Co-inhibition of p53 and JunD restored the transforming ability of v-Src transformed CEF, as indicated by foci formation in soft agar assays. Hence, repression of p53 induction was able to bypass the death signal released as a result of AP-1 inhibition in v-Src transformed CEF. Downregulation of Fra-2 (Fos-related antigen 2) level by shRNA did not affect the proliferation of normal CEF. However, RSV -transformed CEFs expressing fra -2 shRNA were transformation-defective with the presence of multiple vesicles in cytoplasm. Oil-red staining of these vesicles indicated the presence of lipid droplets, which resembles the effect of T AM67 in RSV -transformed CEF indicating that Fra-2 blocks differentiation. These findings help us to understand the role of individual members of the AP-1 transcription factor family in normal and RSV -transformed CEF. Importantly, global gene profiling of v-Src transformed CEF expressing shRNA for individual AP-1 members will improve our knowledge of the transformation process. Functional characterization of the cascade will rely on the use of retroviral-based shRNA expressing system as described above. </p> / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

GARMA models, a new perspective using Bayesian methods and transformations / Modelos GARMA, uma nova perspectiva usando métodos Bayesianos e transformações

Andrade, Breno Silveira de 16 December 2016 (has links)
Generalized autoregressive moving average (GARMA) models are a class of models that was developed for extending the univariate Gaussian ARMA time series model to a flexible observation-driven model for non-Gaussian time series data. This work presents the GARMA model with discrete distributions and application of resampling techniques to this class of models. We also proposed The Bayesian approach on GARMA models. The TGARMA (Transformed Generalized Autoregressive Moving Average) models was proposed, using the Box-Cox power transformation. Last but not least we proposed the Bayesian approach for the TGARMA (Transformed Generalized Autoregressive Moving Average). / THE TRANSFORMED APPOINTMENT: Experiments of interactive “psy” devices in mediatized society Mediatization in an accelerated process in contemporary society changes the functioning of enunciations and ways to interact in a complex way, which will happen widely in the space of mediatized devices. Such devices work as a place of agency to several knowledge systems and social practices, as well as “psy” knowledge systems and practices that, when displaced to their ambience, will produce meaningful incidences that pass on the episteme that produces the idea of appointment. The present study aims to understand the singularity of experiments tried around “psy” knowledge systems in interactive mediatized devices that end up displacing the referents of an appointment and transforming it. Such transformations are observed in three interactive “psy” devices with broad social circulation: the newspaper column “Vida Íntima”, signed by Alberto Goldin; the website Ajudaemocional.com, owned by Olga Tessari; and the enunciations produced by Ildo Rosa da Fonseca and Anahy D’amico at the TV Show “Casos de Família”. The observable were mapped and tensioned in their private logics so that we could reach the regularities and singularities emerging in each one. The analysis developed as a multiple-case study has taken us to realize meaningful aspects of social processes condensed in the devices, as well as to allow inferences about the ways in which such devices can advance the field of knowledge systems involved in their production.
