Climate Justice Movement as Norm Entrepreneur in Global Politics : Creating an Alternative Future in Lützerath to Protest Coal MiningMehl, Sara-Lorena January 2022 (has links)
This thesis argues that contemporary climate justice actions can present a case for how social movements and activists engage as norm entrepreneurs with global politics. Following a case-based approach (McKee, 2003) and combining perspectives of political science with anthropology, theoretical concepts of everyday utopias (Cooper, 2014) and prefiguration (Maeckelbergh, 2011b; 2014) are applied to the case of a village occupation in Germany against a lignite coal mine expansion. It presents a relevant case for global politics as the local protest is transnationally networking with other protest and activist groups. In creating an alternative social and political system in their everyday life, the activists challenge norms of democratic participation, decision-making and beyond. By using prefiguration as a strategic tool, the protest proliferates change beyond the occupation. Through social and public media, the activists participate in the public debate, sharing their narrative and demands, thereby aiming to affect the public discourse and create change.

The Man in the Moone". Some years before the outbreak of the English Revolution of 1640, testifying that in England the monarchy and the Puritans would control an allegedly republican regime, there were a series of errors that contribute to political conflicts that led to the Civil War. Most of them came from the pro-Spanish political assumed by the first two Stuart kings, James I and Charles I, who, among other things, did not support the Protestant classes in their trading enterprises and colonization of overseas markets, leaving the economic situation of the country negative. Faced with the imminent withering of the monarchy, the Anglican Episcopal Church founded on the alliance with the State, the danger of Britain becoming a Spanish colony, Francis Godwin composed around 1629 and his text published in 1638, the utopian fiction "The Man in the Moone". Summarizing all the religious conflict and glides early Stuart England that characterized the first 40 years of the seventeenth century, this study will aim to show that this fiction of Spanish Domingo Gonsales on your trip to the moon, in his passage by the fictional island of Santa Helena and China populated by Jesuits, debating the theories of Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler and Gilbert in the field of astronomy, sought a defense and protection of the Anglican Church and the Tudor monarchy that allied the Church to the State and favored the economy. Through disciplined and innovative example of the Jesuit mission in China in the early seventeenth century, Godwin will bring and warn the confused kings, that the output for the English internal and external conflicts was the investment in science, commerce, and now different from the Jesuits, in opposition to Spain and the Catholic medieval mentality and obsolete policy / Mestrado / Historia e Historiografia Literaria / Mestra em Teoria e História Literária

In light of the critical and historiographical fortune, the intention is to reflect which formal novelty this ambitious project shows in the modern political scenario. The problem shifts to the examination of the relationships between historical matter and literary form. After all, the Great War seems to reorient the formal surveys made by the Italian vanguards, from the moment in which the politics becomes the central theme. The ambition of this study is to assess how the historical events experienced by the generation that lived during the Great War serve as base so that we can understand the direction of the Italian vanguards and how the esthetic formalization of their ideals transformed the Italy of the early 20th Century into a political laboratory / Doutorado / Teoria e Critica Literaria / Doutora em Teoria e História Literária

The objective of this Master¿s thesis is to complete a translation to Portuguese and a study of the The Description of a New World, Called The Blazing-World, by the natural philosopher Margaret Lucas Cavendish (the Duchess of Newcastle). This work was first published in 1666, following her previous book Observations upon Experimental Philosophy. This is considered to be the first utopian work written by a woman and presents the history of the discovery of a new world by a stranger, after a trip across the seas. This world has perfect organization of law, state, religion etc., resulting in a harmonious life for its inhabitants. The story has some resemblance to Thomas More¿s Utopia (1516) but is different in that, after his arrival, the stranger starts to interfere in this world. This causes a number of changes, mainly to established scientific societies. In a similar way to various other `utopias¿ produced throughout the seventeenth century, Cavendish¿s text allows the observation of the ideal political and historical context that surrounds the duchess, as well as introducing the reader to various ideas present in philosophical debates in that time. This includes various criticisms that the author makes of the experimental philosophy practiced by The Royal Society, which are also focused on in Observations. One of main purposes of the creation of this particular fictional utopia is to introduce the principle of philosophical argumentation to those who had not previously been able to participate in such debates / Mestrado / Teoria e Critica Literaria / Mestra em Teoria e História Literária

Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2003. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Utopia, Philosophy and Hermeneutics
Exploring the thought of Gianni Vattimo
Article I:
The End of Utopia
An explanation for the rise of distopia in popular culture with reference to the ideas of
Gianni Vattimo
In this article the development of utopianism is described by tracing it back to its
original classical form, following it through its modernistic form and finally
describing distopia as the postmodern form of utopia. Using the ideas of Gianni
Vattimo, distopia is interpreted as the creative embodiment of the "counterfinality of
reason". In this way distopia acts as a critique of modem rationalism. The question is
raised if it is possible to speak of "the end of utopia" in postmodern times. It is
concluded that utopian thought remains and functions as a necessary fiction in
postmodern ethics.
Article II:
An Appropriate Postmodern Philosophy
A discussion of the hermeneutics of Gianni Vattimo
The aim of this article is to discuss the radical hermeneutics proposed by the Italian
philosopher Gianni Vattimo. Vattimo declares a radicalization of hermeneutics to be
the only consistent, persuasive and valid approach to the postmodern conditions of
existence we find ourselves in today. In order to explain what this approach entails,
and how Vattimo justifies it, this article discusses his interpretation of the history (and
end) of modernity, as well as his proposals for a new task for philosophy, and for a
postmodern ethics.
Artikel I:
etiek.

Previous issue date: 2017-02-24 / The current thesis seeks to demonstrate the relations of dystopias and scientific fiction notions with the virtual game series Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid, in addiction to understanding significant game titles in their influence. Such notions are problematized from the historical research of the scientific fictions, derived from literature and cinema, such as the own science conceptions during the 19th and 20th centuries. Therefore, theoretical-methodological sources
referred to the ludism, cinema and representation are used in order to establish the notions of dystopia presented in the specified games, in a link with the concepts of the pessimistic future
existed in the scientific and artistic imaginary.

Previous issue date: 2015-03-20 / This paper intends to present Theodor W. Adorno?s philosophy of history by the unfolding of continuum concept in the categories of proto-history, Calvary, ever-identical, self-destruction and redemption. Instead to dialogue with messianic currents of Judaism and Christianity, our intention is, through the philosophical tradition, raise the continuum to concept. This articulation does not mean that we want to counteract the theology, but has the pretension to present a closer interweaving between theology and philosophy. The thema probandum, the continuum has a double difficulty to overcome in this work: first, to emerge the continuum in Adorno?s work and then its internal consistency as a concept and ability to consolidate the philosophy of history against others concurrent positions while we establish the originality of Adorno, even compared to the authors that had a decisive influence on his thinking, in particular Walter Benjamin. Benjamin.
