Previous issue date: 2009-06-26 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This dissertation is a study of the many faces that violence at schools can
occur and its impact on teaching. Our objective is a contribution to studies about
relationship between violence and school, understanding the violence´s ambiguity.
In the other words, the violence as constitutive of the education act through the
limitations that the principles of collective experience inflict and the destructive
ways it can acquire. We emphasize the consequences that incivilities as invisible ,
small or hidden manifestations from school´s violence to bring to school every
day, eroding relations established in school. Its axis was the empirical research
and literature, mainly in social sciences´ theories, but also using other areas of
knowledge such as philosophy and psychology in order to obtain an
interdisciplinary look on the phenomenon. Finally, as a result of this study, we
analyzed observations made with the school teachers surveyed, showing that in
the school there are several ways to approach violence at school, and this aproach
is one of many others, where I found clues to elucidate the complexity of Brazil's

Previous issue date: 2010-04-19 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The violence is one of the problems that afflict the Brazilian contemporary society,
provoking fear and unreliability. In the school, the violence is a question of concern
for the teachers, the students and for the pedagogical professionals especially at the
schools from the net of public education. The objective of this research that
originated this thesis was to identify and analyze the social representations of
violence in the school constructed by a teachers group from the state public schools
in Cuiabá in the state of Mato Grosso. The Theory of the Social Representations by
Serge Moscovici and his collaborators served as guiding center line to reach the aim.
The data gathered for the social representations study initially counted on
observations sessions in the studied schools. Following semi-structuralized
interviews were carried out, in private sessions, with thirty one teachers, seven
pedagogical coordinators and twelve directors, distributed in sixteen schools in the
urban perimeter of the capital city. The discursive material originated from the
interviews was processed by software ALCESTE. The analyses revealed that the
subjects construct their social representations about violence in the school by means
of the verbal communication, in their daily informal conversations with the colleagues,
sharing the experiences and also by the communication means, focused on the
television and newspapers. The causes of the violence in the school which were in
consensus at the representations for the majority of the subjects are objectified on
what they consider as non structured family of the students. They are anchored in the
lack of respect of the youths with their colleagues and other members of the school.
The subjects objectified the violence in an illness spreading as a big tree extending
its brushes and roots. For most of the teachers the presence of a psychologist in the
school is the objectified as support, assistance, protection and efficient orientation to
deal with the violence, for the students, teachers and parents. Concerning to the
consequences of the violence in the school, the subjects place their representations
in two distinct forms: those who see the impact in the teaching work, causing lack of
motivation and those who identify the effect in the students, promoting deficient
learning and the inadequacies at the society / A violência é um dos problemas que mais afligem a sociedade brasileira
Objetivam a violência
aprendizagem deficiente e a inadequação social

Previous issue date: 2007-12-07 / This work aims to produce an updated theoretical reference of the biological bases
of emotions, feelings and fear so that the issues related to violence in school
environments can be better understood, allowing the proposal of recommendations
in order to make violence become less frequent and reach less those living in these
environments. This work brings data related to different forms of violence that occur
in public and private schools of basic education and college education in one case,
as well as data related to the consequences of such violence on the mental health
of teachers. In order to collect the data, a direct observation research was
conducted in the form of the interview of a teacher who has been working in the
field of University Education for 37 years. Besides, a bibliographic research was
done about complexity, dialogue, organization, systems, emergencies, emotions,
feelings, fears and school violence. Aiming to complement the research, a
documental research was conducted based on four programs presented by Radio
B-SP about school violence at schools in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. This work
gives a social contribution in the sense that conflicting issues in the mediation of
learning can be approached in different school environments and that people who
live in them can feel welcomed, can develop their potential as human beings and

Previous issue date: 2006-08-04 / Secretaria da Educação / The present study is considered to investigate it the arguments with which the professors of Average Ensino of the State Net of the Region of Itapevi - S.P file a suit (Bourdieu) the actions of the pupils who have practised violence inside of the school of individual form or as class action. It is considered opportune to identify the "repertoire" of images with which the professor offers its diagnosis of the situations that many times if mix or if they confuse with other repertoires, such as those that describe the violence "of the" school against the pupils. In the specific case of this research what it is in question it is to understand and to give visibility to the opinion of the professor on the young that has practised continuously acts of violence inside of the school. To develop this research it was delimited as inquiry field and it collects of data and depositions two located public schools in Jandira, city of the region metropolitan of São Paulo with high indices of crime and scarcity of public spaces destined to the leisure of the young. The hypothesis that guides the present inquiry is of that the professors of Average Ensino also construct actively to an image of "good society" (Elias, 2000) with which establish its parameters of "civilized and incivilizado" behavior (Elias, 1996). This corresponds to perceive a pupil who practises the violence in the school of sufficiently peculiar form, or either, on the basis of the constant gauging of its capacity, or not, of thus autocontrole.Sendo, as unfolding of the raised hypothesis above, will be possible to verify how much the perception that the professor has of the situation collaborates in the formation of the auto image, with which this professional if presents as mediating between the classroom and the "good society" as well as characterizes Elias(2000). The experience accumulated in the work with professors has demonstrated that many times, a pupil who practises a violent act tends to be qualified as a "infractor" ahead of the rules that the pertaining to school universe is called to be "representative" (Bourdieu).Tal qualification tends to transform a diagnosis into prognostic: the infractor must be excluded from the conviviality of the demais.Mais a time Elias in demonstrates them that in innumerable situations the arguments of the exclusion "give a certain cohesion who exclude". When it is indicated that the "better solution" would be the absence of the "infractor" has a picture of spalling in which the excluded one already is is exactly when still is inside (Bourdieu and Elias) face to the "social estigmatização" (Goffman) that it is imposed to it. The formation of a type of "professoral judgment", that if it intends to search, Express in daily mechanisms of classification, will be able to add plus an angle of comment to the studies on the practical professional of the professor / O presente estudo propõe-se a investigar os argumentos com os quais os professores do Ensino Médio da Rede Estadual da Região de Itapevi -S.P ajuízam (Bourdieu) as ações dos alunos que têm praticado violência dentro da escola de forma individual ou como ação coletiva.

Previous issue date: 2007-07-30 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The objective of this study was to analyze and to reflect on the issue of violence in
schools and youth , leading mainly to bullying in school, according to middle class
adolescents and parts of the elites in two schools, a public one and a private one, in the
city of São Paulo. Based on the social sciences of the ideas of Norbert Elias (1996)
taken as reference regarding the civilized process, considering minor violence and
aggressions that are always happening, the violation of the codes of good manners or
the established order, the incivility, so that it is possible to differ what a criminal or
delinquent behaviors are, in Tarde (1986) the concept of purely spiritual collective and
acquiescent and passive collective among others. The principal aim of this project is to
reflect how the young see violence among colleagues and the bullying that happens in
the school. Our source of data confines in the interviews given by four 8th graded pupils,
two boys and two girls of each school, teachers, some members of the pedagogical
team, other school members, some observations and documents. In order to point out
the concerned people in the project, its aim was based on the teenager student, his
school, his family and his relationships with classmates and adults inside the school and
how he attributes the phenomenon of violence. It was taken for granted that violence
occurred between pairs in both schools, the concerned people seen as attackers and
attacked with physical violence such as fights, depredations, assaults, and also not
physical violence such as offences, insults, discriminations, segregations and
humiliations and the fact that they are unaware of what school bullying is. Teachers,
administrative staff and minders of the schools mentioned above are rather worried with
indiscipline cases in the school, the lack of discipline among students, than with the
violence cases among colleagues and school bullying among these young people. The
most important finding observed in both schools is that social actions rather affect the
pedagogical side, leaving the educative proposal behind. When this gap happens, the
school can not reproduce good models of social values, on the other hand, it lets
discrimination and prejudice invade and settle down inside the school. The lack of
social actions and the environment itself promote room allowing students to have
experiences such as violence. Although, there are similarities and differences in both
schools, the critical single point is the bullying / O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar e refletir sobre a temática violências nas escolas e
ocorrência do bullying escolar.
estabeleçam no espaço escolar.
As duas

Previous issue date: 2010-04-14 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This paper portrays an intervention research, the focus of which was school violence and teacher
education. Such research is justifiable due to the manifestation of school violence, complaints coming
from teachers about the lack of qualification to deal with the phenomenon, and their request to become
qualified so they are able to face said problem at school. The explanations about violence, that are
focused on individuals and their families, give rise to the inquiry about the possible contributions
educational psychology is able to provide, as an intervention and study area, so teachers may
overcome the concept they already have, for upon maintaining such concept they run the risk of basing
themselves on student-restricted actions, very too often grounded on common sense, when planning
educational activities that aim at confronting violence. Dialectical and historical materialism, culturalhistorical
psychology, and historical-critical pedagogy were the theoretical foundations for this paper.
Its purpose was to understand that changes in the set of meanings and significances teachers hold in
respect to violence may be mediated by a continuing education process. By monitoring a group of
teachers under continuing education, possibilities for transforming teachers awareness were sought,
mediated by changes in meanings and significances regarding school violence. The procedures used to
produce data were: a socio-demographic mapping questionnaire, a collective interview, and observing
participants during the group formation process. As a result, it was noticed that the participants
expressed opinions in which they attempted to articulate their educational practices with the
theoretical matters regarding violence, broadening the concept of violence, since initially they only
pointed out the physical violence deriving from family and community members but did not mention
the possibility of violence deriving from school itself. Violence was understood as a synonym for
criminal acts and domestic violence. At a certain point, the participants included intolerance and bias
and, finally, the phenomenon is recognized in school relationships and they identified that teachers
also make use of, and experience, violence in their activities. When future teachers begin their
education, they are emotionally touched to help the children with whom they will work. While the
concept of violence was being discussed in group, the participants started to partially give new
meanings to their needs and reasons to act against violence. Upon noticing that the theme on violence
can be included in their pedagogical activities, they began reporting what they can do (a feeling of
empowerment), opposing their own feelings of powerlessness mainly expressed at the beginning of
their education. The abovementioned elements indicate the importance of educational processes in
constructing/reconstructing meanings and significances referring to school violence. The outcome of
such educational intervention process, in order to go up against violence, will depend on historical
circumstances that enable teachers to have access to new knowledge about school violence and to
collectively reflect on how to intervene. It was observed that teachers are under a process of reflection
about the importance of the teacher s role in the process of making children and adolescents sociable,
thus contributing to the education of historical individuals that will be able to more critically take part
in the society in which they live, including taking measures that aim at prevailing over violence in
O Materialismo histórico-dialético, a Psicologia histórico-cultural e a Pedagogia histórico-crítica fundamentaram teoricamente o presente trabalho.
