Vontade e conhecimento como fundamento para a moral em Schopenhauer / Will and knowledge as a basis for morality in Schopenhauer

Lima, Maria Socorro de 30 November 2010 (has links)

For this we seek to understand the inversion that makes Schopenhauer in his philosophy on the intuitive and abstract and the delimitation of intellect and reason faculties. For this, we will understand what the limits of the subject knowledge that relates to the world, the phenomena in the forms and principles inherent in this type of knowledge. In turn, we will also present the proper conditions to the subject's knowledge of the will as a metaphysical foundation of the world, being considered as "means" to approach, the body, the ideas and overcome the individuation principle. First we tried to identify which means knowledge of the will grounds the moral altruistic. Below we investigate the existence of a determination of the intelligible character to the moral and also the relationship of empirical character, acquired character and the motivations for the actins considered as endowed with genuine moral value. Finally, from the conclusions that the individuation principle overcoming is what provides recognition of the will as the one essence of the world and the suffering as identical to all beings, the definition understanding of character for the moral altruistic, we entered the approach about moral standards of Schopenhauer. Compassion, a sentiment that erupts from the individuation principle overcoming, is the basis of spontaneous justice and charity. With this, we contrast, finally, to the asceticism and understanding of the ascetic, even through the denial of the life will the individual has focused his will, placing it at contradiction, as the adoption of his way of life is foreshadowed by the individuation principle overcoming and compassion, he also appears related to morality.

Tourism graduate employability : stakeholder perceptions of workplace learning for graduate employment

Naicker, Daphanie January 2017 (has links)
Submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the Masters in Management Sciences: Tourism and Hospitality Management, Durban University of Technology, Durban, South Africa, 2017. / With the accelerating growth in the tourism industry and its anchorage in the service-industry, the utilisation of people is a valuable resource for a tourism organisation. There are increased pressures on educational institutions from the government and the tourism industry to produce employable graduates. Thus, it remains imperative that tourism organisations have access to a pool of human resources that possess the required knowledge, skills and attitudes. As a result, educational institutions build workplace learning (WPL) into tourism curricula to ensure the transferability of skills and a smoother transition for all stakeholders into the tourism industry. This study set out to determine the impact WPL has on a tourism student’s employability in the tourism industry. The literature highlights a number of key issues hindering the success of WPL for tourism graduate employability. These include, a lack of alignment of curriculum, supervision challenges and partnerships with the tourism industry. Using a mixed methodological approach comprising both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, comparisons among stakeholders’ perceptions and attitudes were conducted. The stakeholders are: tourism graduates from 2011-2014, academic supervisors and workplace supervisors in the tourism industry. Stakeholders’ perceptions of WPL structured the depth and sharpened understanding of the success as well as issues hindering the successful implementation of WPL and consequent unemployment. Among the main challenges were the placement of students and the inadequate feedback between stakeholders. The empirical findings underpinned effective communication as imperative in developing and maintaining quality partnerships for WPL. Among the many knock on benefits is the successful transfer of skills to tourism students. It is hoped that this research will contribute to the dearth of literature on tourism WPL and tackle salient gaps in tourism employability. / M

The Impact of a Digital Regime on Academic Knowledge Production : Implications of learning and practicing knowledge production through a digital regime in Work-integrated Political Studies (WIPS) 2019-2021

Aryal, Sarad January 2023 (has links)
This autoethnographic case study explores the experience of the digital regime on learning and knowledge production brought about by merging university study and research practice within a single digital regime in Work Integrated Political Studies (WIPS) during 2019-2021. The study provides a detailed account of the nature of learning and producing knowledge through this common digital regime, and its political implications. To explain the possibility and impacts of the digital regime, the study employed the concept of digital pharmakon by French philosopher Bernard Stiegler. In the analysis, I have operationalized the concept to the empirical materials I generated in the form of autoethnographic notes taken during the internship in the political science unit of University West, Trollhättan. Based on the analysis of these notes, the study postulates three features of the digital regime in learning knowledge production, which is: 1) to supplement human memory without memorization, 2) the provision of tools with various powerful technics, and 3) as a medium for communication and individuation. Additionally, the regime brought forthsome consequences for learning and practice, for instance, the dangers of forgetting, accelerating dependence on the computational memory and process, weakening thinking for oneself, and short-circuiting the process of individuation. The political implications would be eliminating diverse, negentropic, improbable, and incalculable parts of knowledge, so the knowledge left to be produced is based on computational reasoning, universal, data-driven, negotium, entropic nature of knowledge, lacking the local specialties, and subjective experiences

Ahlqvist, Kerstin January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to make visible how the students, in the special education teacher training program, focusing on intellectual disability, and experience supervision during their “working integration learning” (WIL). In addition, the study aims to get a picture of cooperation between the University and supervising teachers in school for children with intellectual disabilities as well as their views on the supervising of students. The methods employed were a questionnaire with the preparing special education teachers and interviews with five special education teachers at the school who took responsibility for supervision. The analysis upon the theoretical traditions of hermeneutist phenomenology with focus on relational pedagogy with an emphasis on what students and interviewed teachers say about supervision and cooperation. The results show that more time for reflection and a good treatment from the supervisor are two important factors in supervising preparing special educators. It also emerged that cooperation can be improved if the university provides clearer direction regarding goals for the students during WIL and the university provides access for prospective teachers to do research for science lessons. Special education teachers in the school for children with intellectual disabilities want to explore new research and training in a new partnership. Knowledge of the special education teaching profession is important and when it comes to students studying special education with an emphasis in intellectual disabilities, they need to acquire a deeper knowledge of children at early stages of development. An emerging position in schools is the head teacher or “first” teacher who might have supervision of preparing teachers assigned as a part of their job description. Three of the five teachers interviewed have supervision as a part of their work assignment and are interested in supervising preparing students. There are potential growth areas within the special education teachers regarding WIL, focusing children with intellectual disabilities, where the knowledge from this study may help to raise the quality of the WIL, and to develop and disseminate knowledge about supervision in the WIL as well as the importance of cooperation between universities and special schools. More research needs.

Lecturers’ experiences in the implementation of the National Certificate (Vocational) Engineering curriculum in a selected Technical Vocational Education and Training college

Sibisi, Patricia Ningi 02 September 2020 (has links)
Abstract is in English, Zulu and Afrikaans / South Africa is facing a challenge regarding the shortage of South African (SA) engineers. The National Certificate (Vocational) (NC(V)) was introduced by Department of Education (DoE) in 2007 to address this challenge. However, there has been a cry and dissatisfaction from the government, industry, community and other stakeholders that NC(V) engineering curriculum is not addressing the shortage of engineers. SA has one engineer per 2 600 people compared to international norms, where one engineer serves 40 people. It has been ten years since the introduction of NC(V) curriculum, SA should not be in this state of importing engineers if the NC(V) engineering is achieving the goals of National Development Plan 2030. Since lecturers are the implementers of the NC(V) engineering curriculum, it was necessary to investigate their experiences in search for improvement of the curriculum and to find out the challenges facing lecturers which are hindering the success of this curriculum. Lecturers, Senior Lecturers and a Head of Department (HoD) as the primary implementers of the engineering curriculum were involved in the study as participants. There were 15 participants for this study who are lecturing in one selected college but at two different campuses which is why the qualitative research approach was employed, making use of a multiple case study. They took part in semi-structured individual interviews and shared their experiences with the researcher. Their experiences revealed that lecturers are experiencing challenges with the implementation of NC(V) engineering curriculum. Their main challenge was the minimum requirement, which is a Grade 9 pass. Their concern was that no matter what they try, a learner who has not mastered Mathematics up to Grade 12 will struggle with engineering subjects. Emanating from this challenge, low attendance rate, low pass rate, low throughput rate and high drop-out rate is experienced by participants every year. One of the aims of the Transformative Learning Theory (used as one of the theories in the theoretical framework) is to allow lecturers to identify challenges and design improvement plans on their own. This study has indicated that Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges have challenges that are hindering teaching and learning. It was evident that some lecturers believe that government officials should resolve such challenges. However, on engaging with different lecturers they realised that they have the capacity to address classroom-based challenges. If this can be the case in every college, teaching and learning will improve because that will mean lecturers are focusing on teaching and learning and taking ownership of their subjects and students. The governance challenges, such as reviewing the NC(V) curriculum yearly, provide subject specific training to upskill lecturers and implementing Work Integrated Learning (WIL) in the professional development of lecturers were recommended to be addressed by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). / INingizimu Afrika ibhekene nenselelo mayelana nokusweleka konjiniyela. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / M. A model for the integration of work integrated learning in the technical and vocational education and training colleges in South Africa / Model vir die integrasie van werkgeintegreerde leer in die tegniese en beroepsopleiding en opleidingkolleges in Suid-Afrika / Isibonelelo sokufunda komsebenzi otholakalayo kwezobuchwepheshe nobuchwepheshe bokuqeqesha nokuqeqeshwa kwamakholimu Eningizimu Afrika

Mafaralala, Thomas Matome 13 January 2020 (has links)
Abstract in English, Afrikaans and Zulu / The majority of the learners completing Grade 12 in South Africa (SA) further their studies in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVETCs). This is because, among other things, colleges seem to be more affordable and accessible in most communities in all the provinces (SA). However, many of these students appear to be struggling to complete their studies owing to failure to complete the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) module, which is a prerequisite for graduating and becoming employable. The researcher was interested to know how the WIL module affects the completion of students’ studies. The researcher approached the investigation as an idealist (constructivist) using a case study design. Data was collected through the semi-structured and focus groups interviews. It was found that, among other things, the WIL module was seldom completed owing to its reliance on the availability of jobs. In addition, the lack of jobs for college students was a result of the curriculum mismatch with employers’ actual needs, in Business Studies in particular. Correspondingly, the Fourth Industrial Revolution threatens job losses, which are likely to affect those with qualifications in Business Studies, hence its selection for this investigation. To address this, the researcher proposed a model which requires the colleges, businesses, government and the communities to collaborate in the creation of projects that cater for the needs of the different communities. Such projects could also help to update the curriculum to be more responsive. In this way, more opportunities for WIL could be created for students. In addition, the researcher proposed three phases for the integration of WIL, and colleges could decide on each depending on their programme specifications. The researcher concludes that no matter how good the models, without collaboration WIL could remain a constraint and qualifications could become meaningless owing to the lack of jobs. Subsequently, the researcher suggests that more research be conducted in line with the development or growth of the business sector. The findings of this study were limited to four selected colleges in the four provinces of SA, yet are applicable and useful to all higher education in the world. / Iningi labafundi abaphothula iBanga le-12 eSouth Africa (SA) baqhubekisela phambili izifundo zabo emaKholeji wezobuchwepheshe nezokuqeqeshwa (i-TVETCs). Lokhu kungenxa yokuthi, phakathi kokunye, amakolishi abukeka engabizi kakhulu futhi ayatholakala emiphakathini eminingi kuzo zonke izifundazwe (SA). Kodwa-ke, iningi lalaba bafundi libonakala linenkinga yokuphothula izifundo zabo ngenxa yokwehluleka ukuqeda imodyuli ye-Work Integrated Learning (WIL), okuyimfuneko yokuqala yokuthola iziqu nokuqashwa. Umcwaningi wayethanda ukwazi ukuthi imojula ye-WIL ikuthinta kanjani ukuphothulwa kwezifundo zabafundi. Umcwaningi asondele kulolu phenyo njengento efanelekayo (i-constructivist) esebenzisa umklamo wokufunda icala. Idatha yaqoqwa ngokuxoxisana namaqembu ahlelwe ngokwedlule. Kwatholakala ukuthi, phakathi kokunye, imodyuli ye-WIL yayingavunyelwe ukuqedwa ngenxa yokuncika kwayo ekutholakaleni kwemisebenzi. Ngaphezu kwalokho, ukuntuleka kwemisebenzi kwabafundi basekolishi bekungumphumela wokungalingani kahle kwekharikhulamu ngezidingo zangempela zabaqashi, ezifundweni zeBhizinisi. Ngokunjalo, i-Fourth Industrial Revolution isongela ukulahleka kwemisebenzi, okungenzeka ukuthi ithinte labo abaneziqu ku-Business Studies, yingakho ukukhethwa kwayo kulolu phenyo. Ukubhekana nalokhu, umcwaningi uhlongoze imodeli edinga ukuthi amakolishi, amabhizinisi, uhulumeni kanye nemiphakathi basebenzisane ekwenziweni kwamaphrojekthi anakekela izidingo zemiphakathi ehlukahlukene. Amaphrojekthi anjalo futhi angasiza ukuvuselela ikharikhyulamu ukuthi iphenduleke ngokwengeziwe. Ngale ndlela, amathuba amaningi e-WIL angakhelwa abafundi. Ngaphezu kwalokho, umcwaningi uhlongoze izigaba ezintathu zokuhlanganiswa kwe-WIL, futhi amakolishi anganquma ngakunye ngokuya ngemininingwane yohlelo lwabo. Umcwaningi uphetha ngokuthi noma ngabe amamodeli amahle kangakanani, ngaphandle kokubambisana u-WIL angahlala eyisibopho futhi iziqu zingaba yizezi ngenxa yokuntuleka kwemisebenzi. Ngemuva kwalokho, umcwaningi uphakamisa ukuthi kwenziwa ucwaningo olwengeziwe ngokuhambisana nokukhula noma ukukhula komkhakha webhizinisi. Ukutholwa kwalolu cwaningo bekukhawulelwe kumakholiji amane akhethiwe ezifundazweni ezine ze-SA, kodwa asasebenza futhi alusizo kuyo yonke imfundo ephakeme emhlabeni. / Educational Management and Leadership / D. A work-integrated learning mentorship model for nature conservation at an open distance learning university in South Africa

Wilson, Graeme Austin 01 1900 (has links)
In this dissertation of limited scope, the phenomenon of providing effective workintegrated learning mentorship to nature conservation undergraduate students is explored, specifically to determine if mobile technology can be offered as an alternative or supplementary mentoring strategy for an Open Distance Learning university. Mentoring of work-integrated learning undergraduate students is an integral component of the Nature Conservation Diploma offered by the University of South Africa. The prerequisite mentoring of students is not consistent across all required sector-based placements and this could be construed as being unjust and discriminatory. This possible negative perception has motivated this investigation into work-integrated learning mentorship approaches within the Nature Conservation Diploma. This exploratory case study provides insights into and lays a foundation for the development of a supplementary mentorship provision strategy, for students who find it difficult to secure mentorship opportunities. Applying a social learning and integration perspective, three cohorts of undergraduate nature conservation work-integrated learning students participated in this study. This qualitative exploratory case study focused on the interaction and subsequent results achieved by students, through engaging with one of three different mentorship methods available to students at the University of South Africa. The three methods were: face-to-face mentoring by an academic, digital mentoring provided by means of a mobile phone application and sector-based mentoring. The latter method represents the current mentorship provision status quo for all nature conservation work-integrated learning diploma students. The findings reveal that the three mentoring methods are effective in supporting workintegrated learning students. The students indicated their preference for mentorship provided by the University of South Africa, over that of the sector-based mentors. No significant difference between the two university-provided methods of mentorship was found. This study recommends that the University continue with its development of the digital mentor option, to function as a fully functioning supplementary mentor. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / M.
