Bloggens betydelse för unga  kvinnors självkänsla / Bloggens betydelse för unga kvinnors självkänsla : How important is the blog of young women's self-esteem?

Damm, Martine, Bengtsson, Carolina January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to shine light upon the importance of blogs to young readers in Halmstad and Laholm. We want to, through three themes of consumption, life style and direction of impression, increase the understanding of how blogs affect young women's self- esteem with focus on blogreaders and different kinds of blogs. We used triangulation of methods as our methodical starting-point. We looked at written sources, earlier research and later interviewed three bloggers. We also performed a survey that we handed out to different high schools in Halmstad and Laholm. For this we handed out 105 forms in total. To receive a better picture of how readers experiences blogs, we also interviewed three blog readers. We came to the conclusion that blogs greatly affect young women's self-esteem and we shine light on this through a wider, cultural angle.

Kambili and Tambudzai: Inspirational Young Women from Africa

Adolfsson, Katarina January 2012 (has links)
This essay explores the living conditions of the main characters Kambili in Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Tambudzai in Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga and their struggle to achieve personal freedom. It aims to show that colonial stereotypes are challenged through the girl´s struggles. It starts with a short exposé over post-colonial theory, here a methodological viewpoint, which is important to consider Kambili and Tambudzai from. It furthermore considers how their extensive family circumstances have impact on these two young protagonists, and finally examines how they employ formal and informal education as a tool to make changes in their lives and become inspirational young African women.

Young women athletes' self-conscious emotions and self-compassion

Mosewich, Amber Dawn 21 August 2008 (has links)
Athletic environments subject athletes to evaluation not only on performance, but also on appearance (Krane et al., 2001). This likely facilitates self-conscious emotions, which have a self-evaluative focus (Leary, 2004; Tracy & Robins, 2004). However, self-compassion might serve as a buffer against the self-conscious emotions by countering self-evaluative processes. The purpose of this study was to explore the relations between self-conscious emotions (i.e., shame, guilt, authentic pride, and hubristic pride) and self-evaluative thoughts and behaviours (i.e., social physique anxiety, obligatory exercise, objectified body consciousness, fear of failure, and fear of negative evaluation) for young women aged 13 -18 involved in high school sport (N = 151). The role of self-compassion as a moderator variable between self-conscious emotions and self-evaluative thoughts and behaviours was also explored. Consistent with the contention that shame and hubristic pride may be less adaptive than guilt and authentic pride, shame and hubristic pride showed positive relations with fear of failure (r = .26 and .20, respectively) and fear of negative evaluation (r = .21 and .21, respectively). Hubristic pride was also positively related to objectified body consciousness (r = .32). Conversely, guilt and authentic pride showed negative relations with objectified body consciousness (r = -.20 and -.34, respectively). Authentic pride also showed negative relations to fear of failure (r = -.38) and fear of negative evaluation (r = -.37). Self-compassion was negatively related to shame (r = -.32) and positively related to authentic pride (r = .42), but had no relation with guilt and hubristic pride. Self-compassion was also negatively related with social physique anxiety (r = -.39), objectified body consciousness (r = -.34), fear of failure (r = -.38), and fear of negative evaluation (r = -.37). Additionally, self-compassion was found to explain variance beyond self-esteem on objectified body consciousness (∆R2 = .07), fear of failure (∆R2 = .11), and fear of negative evaluation (∆R2 = .06). A significant interaction effect was found with self-compassion on the relation between shame and obligatory exercise, suggesting that even moderate levels of self-compassion may help to buffer some negative effects of shame. Taken together, these results suggest that self-compassion might be an important resource for young women involved in sport in managing self-conscious emotions.

Unga kvinnors upplevelser av bröstcancer ur ett psykosocialt perspektiv / Young women's experiences of breast cancer from a psychosocial perspective

Carlsson, Malin, Nordin, Malin January 2010 (has links)
Problem: In health care the psychosocial problem rarely or never is noticed by nursing staff, being young is a risk factor for suffering from psychosocial problems. It is therefore important for nurses to have knowledge about the psychosocial impact that young women with breast cancer experience. The purpose: was to illustrate young women´s experiences of their breast cancer from a psychosocial perspective, related to nursing. Method: It was a literature study, where 14 qualitative and quantitative articles that responded to the study´s purpose were used. Results and conclusion: Breast cancer influenced women´s relationships with the families both positively and negatively. The physical changes that occurred as a result of breast cancer created concerns about reproduction, sexuality and femininity. They felt that there was a lack of personalized information and tomized support for the young women. The women felt that they had lost their identity. The fear of dying or recurrence imprinted the women´s life. Anxieties to abandon the family in the event of a possible death were commonly occurring in the women. Implication: There is a need to improve information and psychosocial support ecially modified for young women with breast cancer. Also there is a need for further research on how psychosocial problems are identified in young women with breast cancer.

Gustafsson, Isabell, Vikman, Alexandra January 2011 (has links)
A cancer diagnosis for young women can lead to experiences that earlier never occurred in life, an uncertain future with a lot of thoughts and reflections. Nurses lack of knowledge in cancer patients' experiences are known according to previous research, and this leads to that patients don’t recive adequate care. Purpose of this study was to describe young women's experiences of living with cancer. Three biographies consisting of five stories were analyzed from a qualitative manifest content analysis. Martinsen´s theory was used as theoretical framework, where she illuminates the importance of communion between people and the safety of the environment. Analysis resulted in four categories: the experience of getting a cancer diagnosis, the will to live, the experience of safety in the community and environment, and the knowledge that life will come to an end. Prominent experiences were hopefulness, desire to be healthy and vitality. Safety was something significant and could be experienced in context of community and special environments. The result also expressed experiences in form of despair, hopelessness and sadness. It is important for nurses to gain deeper knowledge about young women's experiences of living with cancer. This is to deliberately create an individualized care for cancer patients.

Hamidian, Zara January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to find out whether young women´s conceptions on femininity are based on school culture or other possible factors. The theory chosen for this study is the sociological perspective. A theory where sociologists such as Emile Drukheim, Talcott Parsons and Pierre Bourdieu are all prominent. The discussion links to Habitus and their theories on social, cultural and collective groups. A qualitative method has been used. Ten young women have bee interviewed and their answers have been compared and analyzed for results. The women has been divided into two segments. One consisting of the ethnically Swedish young women and one out of non-ethnically Swedish young women. In conclusion, the ethnically Swedish group of young women are all involved in building up the norm at the particular school examined. Furthermore, the non-ethnically Swedish young women are followers of this norm. Conceptions on the current heterosexual norm that exists within the school culture are built based upon the different social groups.

Sister Act: Understanding Sorority Women's Communication About Condom Use

Hernandez, Rachael A. 2010 August 1900 (has links)
Young women‘s sexual health is declining. Sorority women face an intersectionality of risk for the negative consequences of sexual activity because of college attendance, sex, and age. The influence of peer communication about condom use can provide a buffer to the risk these women face. I investigated this communication through focus groups, using the theory of communication privacy management and grounded theory to understand focus group findings. The results revealed themes regarding characteristics of communicators and context of communication including communication topic and setting. The women use strategies, boundaries and rules to negotiate communication privacy and engage in comfortable communication. Additionally, the women seek to maintain a good reputation for their social group, and follow explicit and implicit rules to do so. The implication of this analysis includes improvements in sorority and college student sexual health programming and continued research on communication in social support organizations like sororities.

Contested Belongings: Understanding The Meaning Of Turkish Classical Music Among Young Women In Germany

Sahin, Nevin 01 September 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Turkish citizens who went to Germany as migrant workers during 1960s and 1970s attached themselves to the language and music of their home country in order to sustain their local, regional or national belongings. In the 21st century, against the backdrop of globalization, the second and third generation of the Turkish group in Germany has different ties with Turkey and &ldquo / Turkish culture&rdquo / . Are the belongings of the German-Turkish youth still shaped by language, music and cultural artifacts related to Turkey? What do they try to preserve, what do they reassemble or re-arrange? What is the meaning of music in these processes of identity? Considering the literature on the German-Turkish youth, this study aims at giving voice to an &ldquo / invisible&rdquo / group through an unheard genre of music. This study looks at young women, second and third generation of Turkish background, in Germany and the role of Turkish classical music in their everyday lives. A genre with a history of about a millennium, Turkish classical music as a performance entered the German context in late 1970s with the first Turkish classical music choir. v Since then the production of Turkish classical music has been feminized, and the young women singing in these choirs, who are somehow the followers of previous generations, develop ties to the music and the music circles they attend. The ethnographic data, which has been collected through a fieldwork of three months in Germany, mainly in Berlin, among young women in Turkish classical music choirs, shows that multiple belongings play a role in the transnational experience of music making among German-Turkish young women. When considered the Turkishness and Germanness of their identities with religious, linguistic and national aspects, it can be said that the young women experience a contestation of belongings and try to hide themselves in music in an effort to escape the tension of contested belongings. However, Turkish classical music is a source of contested belongings since the young women considered produce a type of music that they do not normally listen to.

Tshibanda, Annika, Lindgren, Carina January 2009 (has links)
<p>Den psykiska ohälsan bland unga kvinnor ökar i samhället idag. The mental unhealthiness amongst young women is increasing in society today. Self-harm behaviour can be a way for them to alleviate their anxiety. Previous research shows that nurses perceive powerlessness and uncertainty for this population. The purpose of this study is to describe the experiences of self-harm behaviour in young women through qualitative analysis of four autobiographies. The result is based on four major categories, each with two subcategories, illustrated and clarified with quotations from the authors. The major categories reflect four areas of key importance to the development of self-harm behaviour. The result describes the authors' common experience of self contempt and alienation, and their different growing conditions and personalities. The discussion emphasizes that health care providers should approach the suffering behind self-harm behaviour with understanding and respect, which requires knowledge of patients harming themselves.</p>
