Sans-abri : l'émergence des asiles de nuits à Paris (1878-1910) / Homeless : the emergence of the night shelters in Paris (1878-1910)

Katz, Lucia 06 January 2015 (has links)
Since 1878 in Paris, a network of night‐shelters has been gradually set‐up with the goal to help the most urgent needs of the homeless. In France, a fit adult’s idleness has been condemned since the 14th century : regarding wandering and begging, the Third Republic inherits a repressive system implemented throughout several centuries. Although the strong moral suspicion that weighs on the poor people capable of working remains strong, the first consequences of industrialization and urbanization are becoming visible : de‐location and unemployment, etc. In the context of political and economic crisis, certain homeless are given help. Night shelters are encouraged, reproduced and recognized as beneficial to the general interest. On one hand, they are presented as a solution to the inadequacies of the State. On the other hand, they fit in language of the social reform and the republican compromise. In order to understand the craze and the institutionalization towards night‐hospitality, various corpuses, with a varieties of written documents, serial or not, ordinary, extraordinary and often unpublished, are remixed to reconstitute the social realities of "night hospitality" in their full complexities. With the growing implementation of the professionalization of institutionalized hospitality, pragmatic adaptations allow a re‐designing of the proposed model by other very different actors, in particular the city of Paris. Broadcasting allows the transfer of many elements between the various producers. However, it brings along reflections and questionings leading to statutory accommodations. The slow integration of night shelters within the panel of proposals to remedy poverty is thus at the same time the result of personal investments, economical contingencies and professional strategies allowing night hospitality to be an integrated part of the social welfare. However, the use and the tangible results of night shelters lead to disappointments and criticism. These difficulties in the practical implementation can explain the relative loss of momentum in the creation of night shelters as well as the reorientation, or at least the diversification, of productive institutions.

The Student Habitat : "a small and interactive community where students can live, interact and socialize."

Danesh, Pedram January 2014 (has links)
I’ve chosen a subject that's close to my heart, as a student who has experiences the need of a change in the traditional student living.I've focused my theses on finding the key ingredients for improving an individuals time as a student. In a time when students are struggling to find accommodation that fulfills the need of being close to university, close to social places, adequate size and affordable. This is close to impossible! This is not just a problem in Stockholm but an international dilemma. The heart of my thesis is, how can we create clever ways of student accommodation with emphasis on community and a more sustainable way of living? Only when we start embracing change and by breaking out of our traditional individual living, can we then start to realise and recognise the benefits of working, studying and living together. My key answer to the problem is "The student habitat”- a small and interactive community where students can live, interact and socialize. By implementing an academic community that's integrated in our living space, can we then form an added value and acceptance in small size accommodation. Smaller living area, but a greater social interacting platform. This solution would result in improved relation with other students, improved teamwork, better integration with students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, improved academic achievement and better motivation.

Blomquist, Clara, Lindblom, Felicia January 2021 (has links)

Support housing - New form of housing for unaccompanied youth : A way to integrate?

Wilén, Marie-Louise January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to investigate and understand the factors that may have implications for how un-accompanied young adults living in a support housing are integrated into Swedish society and the extent towhich the housing form is relevant to that process. Unaccompanied refugee children as I in this essay hereaf-ter abbreviate EKU, which is a generally accepted name in the social service. When EKU turn to 16 years, they are considered young adults and thus ready to live in supported housing. In order to be able to respond to the purpose, I have chosen to use qualitative semistructured interviews withsix unaccompanied young adults living in a support housing today, they have shared their personal experi-ences of that process. The result that has emerged from interviews has been analyzed from three differenttheories, social identity, KASAM and empowerment but also previous research. The result is presented andinterpreted based on the theories and to some extent previous research.
