The Role of Product Owners : An Empirical Investigation of the Role of Product Owners and Challenges in Agile Scrum ProjectsHajdarevic, Demir January 2018 (has links)
Within Scrum framework the role of the product owner is critical for the success of a Scrum project. Today, there exist little empirical evidence of how the role of product owner is practiced and the challenges they are faced with. This research seeks through a multiple-case study approach to explore the role of product owners. The aim of the research was to investigate the existence of a gap between theory and practice in terms of the product owner role. Qualitative data collection consisted of eight semi-structured interviews with product owners and agile coaches which then was analyzed according to what theory of the role suggests. Results showed partly multiple factors confirming a gap, for example regarding vision, prioritizing and communication, and challenges that arise from the gap, for example concerning decision-making.

Previous issue date: 2014 / In the last two decades there has been considerable progress in the use of Information Technologies and Digital Communication in the process of teaching and learning, both in the form of classroom education as distance. In this context, the use of Virtual Learning Environments - software designed to support the courses via the Internet - is growing and access becoming increasingly diverse, ranging from desktop computers to mobile smartphones. Thus, the complexity of creating these environments becomes increasingly technical and requires Software Engineering and Project Management always better to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction generated. Given such a scenario, this paper proposes the use of Agile methodologies in the development and project management of virtual environments as a more interesting way than traditional software delivery based only on product quality, forgetting often , customer satisfaction and motivation of developers. This paper reports the adoption of agile methodologies in the development of the SOLAR AVA 2.0, showing that it is possible to succeed in both the technical level and at the organizational and personally with the adoption of agile practices in the development of AVAs that can be proven through experiments done with the satisfaction surveys with users and project developers.

Project Management (PM) has gained a major role in the viability of the strategic objectives of organizations. The development of products and services has been under stronger market pressure, requesting frequent releases and in ever-shorter periods. To meet these new requirements, initiatives for maintaining PM as an information provider to make decisions in multiple and complex projects, exposed to relevant uncertainty and volatility, should be sought. Regarding the opportunities for improvement of PM practices to deal with this unstable and ambiguous environment, the objective of this work is to propose, using the Grounded Theory (GT) method, a framework that prescribes how to apply two GP methods in combination: the Critical Chain Project Management - CCPM and Scrum. The results of this work indicate that the integration of these methodologies can enhance the benefits and mitigate the weaknesses of each of them in particular. This hybrid model could permit a better articulation and coordination of the project tasks, allowing effective decisions in multiple project environments affected by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA).

Requirements Specifications Simplified and AdaptedMartinsson, Christoffer January 2008 (has links)
Systems development projects and their documents are more or less standardized and can mainly be applied on systems that are supposed to be built from scratch, or updated. In pace with the number of IT-systems are increasing worldwide there is no need for every organization to build their own IT-system. Nowadays it is also possible to purchase licenses which allow the purchaser to modify or add functions to the system. Along with those changes, there have been an increased amount of “rapid development methods” such as Agile and “Quick and Dirty” solutions, but these methods and perspectives are mainly focusing on entire systems development processes, as the old ones, but quicker. If a company purchases an off-the-shelf system with source code available, there is no real need to go through a proper systems development process. During interviews with a small company that has acquired a system as mentioned above, the researcher realized that only one single document is needed, the requirements specification. Today’s requirements specifications can be either well detailed or less, but a project still needs the details specified. Combining a known agile development process with IEEE’s standardized requirements specification, a new way to proceed with projects based on one single document (the requirements specification) has been made. This document also has a focus on simplicity for the inexperienced readers, but with the depth that every developer has got a use for.

Quality assurance with TL 9000 in agile software development of set-top boxes : The case of Motorola and the use of ScrumGustafsson, Kristofer, Jacobsson, Johan January 2009 (has links)
In today’s fast-paced world, there is a constant demand for better and more efficient ways of doing business. Motorola in Linköping are using the agile development framework, Scrum in their software development. A certain level of quality must also be assured of the delivered goods and services. Is it possible to use Scrum and still meet the quality requirements? This Master Thesis is performed to investigate if it is possible to achieve a quality certificate from TL 9000, the telecom industry extension of ISO 9000, when using the agile development framework Scrum. The investigation consists of interviews and observations at Motorola, Linköping, along with literature studies about quality systems and agile development. The conclusion is that it is possible to meet the TL 9000 requirements when using Scrum, under the condition that some additional processes are performed and that other parts of the organization also fulfills the remaining requirements. This is needed since there are requirements that are out of scope for the Scrum framework. Examples of the suggested additions are to follow the Scrum framework more strictly and to adopt a more specific definition of done.
