[en] PAR(P) AND SINGULAR SPECTRUM ANALYSIS APPROACH IN THE MODELING AND SCENARIOS GENERATION / [pt] ABORDAGEM PAR(P) E SINGULAR SPECTRUM ANALYSIS NA MODELAGEM E GERAÇÃO DE CENÁRIOS

MOISES LIMA DE MENEZES 12 August 2014 (has links)
[en] Due to the predominance of hydraulic sources in the Brazilian electrical system, there is a large uncertainty in future energy supply. To deal with hydrologic uncertainty, the optimal operation policy of the Brazilian electric system is the result of a sophisticated stochastic optimization where are considered a large set of synthetic series (scenarios) of Affluent Natural Energy (ENA). Traditionally, synthetic ENA series have been generated by periodic autoregressive models PAR (p). Recently, the advent of wind energy and its growth of participation in Brazilian electrical system indicate to the need for methods to generate synthetic series of wind speed. Thus, this thesis proposes a methodology for generating synthetic series based on the combined use of PAR (p) models and the Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA). The proposed methodology is general and can be used to generate synthetic series of ENA and wind speed. SSA is a recent methodology in time series. Through SSA it can extract trends or seasonality and smoothing by removing the series of noisy components. SSA has been successfully applied in various fields of knowledge as in Hydrology and Economics. Multi-channel Singular Spectrum Analysis (MSSA) is a natural extension of the SSA when applied to multiple series simultaneously. The proposed methodology was applied to the ENA series of four electric subsystems (Northeast, North, Southeast / Midwest and South) and compared to the PAR (p) existing model. Additionally, the proposed methodology was applied to the generation of synthetic series of wind speed at two sites located in the Brazilian Northeast. The good results achieved demonstrate that the proposed methodology can be used to generate synthetic series of ENA and wind energy considered in stochastic optimization models that assist planning the operation of the Brazilian electric energy system.

Treß, Martin 21 November 2014 (has links)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 2.1.1 Kristallisation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 2.1.2 Der kalorimetrische Glasübergang . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7 2.1.3 Der dynamische Glasübergang . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7 2.1.4 Theoretische Modelle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9 2.2 Polymere . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 11 2.2.1 Molekulare Struktur . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12 2.2.2 Molekulare Dynamik . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 16 2.2.3 „Confinement effects“ - der Einfluss räumlicher Begrenzung . . . . . 19 2.3 Wechselwirkung von elektromagnetischen Feldern mit Materie . . . . . . . . 22 2.3.1 Polarisation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 22 2.3.2 Elektrostatik . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 24 2.3.3 Dielektrische Relaxation und Retardation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 26 3 Material und Methoden 39 3.1 Experimentelle Methoden . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 39 3.1.1 Dielektrische Spektroskopie . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 39 3.1.2 Rasterkraftmikroskopie . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 43 3.1.3 Ergänzende Methoden . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 46 3.2 Datenauswertung . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 52 3.2.1 Analyse der dielektrischen Messungen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 52 3.2.2 Analyse der Rasterkraftmikroskopaufnahmen . . . . . . . . . . . . . 61 3.2.3 Verfahren zur Auswertung der ergänzenden Methoden . . . . . . . . 74 3.3 Probenmaterial . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 82 3.4 Probenpräparation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 84 3.4.1 Präparation dünner Polymerfilme und vereinzelter Polymerknäuel . . 84 3.4.2 Probenkondensatoren mit nanostrukturierten Elektroden . . . . . . . 90 3.4.3 Aufdampfen von Elektroden . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 95 3.4.4 Tempern . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 95 3.4.5 Besonderheiten der Präparation für die ergänzenden Methoden . . . 96 3.5 Reproduzierbarkeit . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 98 3.5.1 Unerwünschte Veränderungen der Probe und Gegenmaßnahmen . . 98 3.5.2 Prüfung der Probenstabilität . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 101 3.5.3 Partikelkontamination . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 102 4 Ergebnisse und Diskussion 105 4.1 Modellierung der dielektrischen Spektren . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 105 4.1.1 Probenaufbau und Ersatzschaltbilder . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 106 4.1.2 Vergleich modellierter und gemessener Spektren . . . . . . . . . . . 111 4.1.3 Modell eines Polymer-Knäuels im Plattenkondensator . . . . . . . . . 119 4.1.4 Schlussfolgerungen . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 127 4.2 Dünne Polymerschichten . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 127 4.2.1 Polystyrol-Schichten verschiedener Molekulargewichte . . . . . . . . 128 4.2.2 Polymethylmethacrylat-Schichten auf unterschiedlichen Substraten . 135 4.2.3 Literaturdiskussion . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 138 4.2.4 Die präsentierten Ergebnisse im Kontext der Literatur . . . . . . . . . 155 4.3 Vereinzelte Polymer-Knäuel . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 158 4.3.1 Charakterisierung der Oberfläche . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 158 4.3.2 Molekulare Dynamik . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 166 4.3.3 Wechselwirkungen mit der Oberfläche . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 170 4.3.4 Interpretation - das molekulare Bild . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 174 5 Zusammenfassung 177 A Übersicht der Messungen und Experimentatoren 181 Literaturverzeichnis 182 Publikationsliste 205 Danksagung 209 Lebenslauf 211 Selbstständigkeitserklärung 213

A solidarity movement and its concept of thePalestinian people and of their political leaders

Sundberg, Kjell January 2018 (has links)
This study analyses a Swedish solidarity organisation, The Palestine Solidarity Association ofSweden. In original language Palestinagrupperna i Sverige, abbreviated PGS. Like other solidaritygroups the PGS was founded in sympathy with liberation movements during the decolonisation erain the 1960s. The PGS supports the Palestinian attempt to form an independent state partly on thesame land as Israel. Many of the groups were organised in a different manner than traditional leftist organisations. Thisstudy tries to apply the theory of Social Contentious Movements to the PSG. The general idea isthat new social groups mobilise in new ways and apply confrontational tactics towards the state.Renowned scholars in this field are Sidney Tarrow and Charles Tilly. Some of these groups wereformed transnationally and used new ways of communication like the internet. The PGS is active in one such transnational organisation called BDS, Boycott, Divestment andSanctions. PGS have put pressure on Swedish businesses to boycott the Israeli factory SodaStreamthat has been producing on occupied Palestinian territory still labelling the products Made inIsrael. The study shows support for the fact that the PGS has gradually turned from mainly radical critic toan organisation of development aid in Palestine. The main hostile counterpart is the Israeligovernment, which has promised to stop PGS-members entering the country because of itsengagement in the BDS.The results of the study gives support to explanation of its survival where other leftist solidaritygroups have ceased to exist due to its work with development aid.The PGS supports the rights of the Palestinian people. The interest of the people has beenarticulated in different ways of the leadership. The initial wholehearted support seems to havechanged to a more sceptical one. The support now is more directed towards the civil society.

The Index of Stock market in Taiwan - Fractals and Chaos

Lee, Shih Chin Unknown Date (has links)

Simulating the flow of some non-Newtonian fluids with neural-like networks and stochastic processes

Tran-Canh, Dung January 2004 (has links)
The thesis reports a contribution to the development of neural-like network- based element-free methods for the numerical simulation of some non-Newtonian fluid flow problems. The numerical approximation of functions and solution of the governing partial differential equations are mainly based on radial basis function networks. The resultant micro-macroscopic approaches do not require any element-based discretisation and only rely on a set of unstructured collocation points and hence are truly meshless or element-free. The development of the present methods begins with the use of the multi-layer perceptron networks (MLPNs) and radial basis function networks (RBFNs) to effectively eliminate the volume integrals in the integral formulation of fluid flow problems. An adaptive velocity gradient domain decomposition (AVGDD) scheme is incorporated into the computational algorithm. As a result, an improved feed forward neural network boundary-element-only method (FFNN- BEM) is created and verified. The present FFNN-BEM successfully simulates the flow of several Generalised Newtonian Fluids (GNFs), including the Carreau, Power-law and Cross models. To the best of the author's knowledge, the present FFNN-BEM is the first to achieve convergence for difficult flow situations when the power-law indices are very small (as small as 0.2). Although some elements are still used to discretise the governing equations, but only on the boundary of the analysis domain, the experience gained in the development of element-free approximation in the domain provides valuable skills for the progress towards an element-free approach. A least squares collocation RBFN-based mesh-free method is then developed for solving the governing PDEs. This method is coupled with the stochastic simulation technique (SST), forming the mesoscopic approach for analyzing viscoelastic flid flows. The velocity field is computed from the RBFN-based mesh-free method (macroscopic component) and the stress is determined by the SST (microscopic component). Thus the SST removes a limitation in traditional macroscopic approaches since closed form constitutive equations are not necessary in the SST. In this mesh-free method, each of the unknowns in the conservation equations is represented by a linear combination of weighted radial basis functions and hence the unknowns are converted from physical variables (e.g. velocity, stresses, etc) into network weights through the application of the general linear least squares principle and point collocation procedure. Depending on the type of RBFs used, a number of parameters will influence the performance of the method. These parameters include the centres in the case of thin plate spline RBFNs (TPS-RBFNs), and the centres and the widths in the case of multi-quadric RBFNs (MQ-RBFNs). A further improvement of the approach is achieved when the Eulerian SST is formulated via Brownian configuration fields (BCF) in place of the Lagrangian SST. The SST is made more efficient with the inclusion of the control variate variance reduction scheme, which allows for a reduction of the number of dumbbells used to model the fluid. A highly parallelised algorithm, at both macro and micro levels, incorporating a domain decomposition technique, is implemented to handle larger problems. The approach is verified and used to simulate the flow of several model dilute polymeric fluids (the Hookean, FENE and FENE-P models) in simple as well as non-trivial geometries, including shear flows (transient Couette, Poiseuille flows)), elongational flows (4:1 and 10:1 abrupt contraction flows) and lid-driven cavity flows.

Designing Business Models of Tomorrow : Exploring the Expansion of Cleantech-as-a-Service through an Agile approach

Gudmundsson, Sofia, Lachini, Anaïs January 2021 (has links)
Background: Three mega trends are profoundly changing today’s market dynamics; climate change, digitalization, and globalization. The increasing interconnectivity and omnipresence of digital technologies are blurring the boundaries of the physical and virtual reality, implying a shift in how digital companies create value and internationalize. Also, new policies and higher customer demand in greener and smarter technologies have created new opportunities for value creation to develop cleaner technologies that foster the growth of clean-technology firms. To be competitive and persist in a sustainable and digital economy, firms must be able to cope with changing market conditions. Strategic agility can support to avoid rigidity and benefit from change, which is fostered by strong dynamic capabilities. Knowledge gaps: The study aims to address shortcomings of digital sustainability business models and specifically characterize the emerging sector of sustainable software companies offering Cleantech-as-a-Service applications. The international potential of these ventures recognizes the need to elaborate on internationalization drivers. The globally competitive environment enforces the need to be strategically agile, whereby applying agile principles to an international context can bring a comprehensive view of internationalizing digital sustainability ventures’ critical capabilities and business model characteristics. The study will also assert the role of collaborative ecosystems in an entrepreneurial internationalization. Purpose: This study will explore the emergence of Cleantech-as-a-Service and investigate how these digital entrepreneurs achieve strategic agility in global pivoting and competitive environments. Our exploratory research aims to apply agile principles to entrepreneurial internationalization strategies, where we through six in-depth interviews will discover the role of digital cleantech firms’ dynamic business models, capabilities, and ecosystems when entering a foreign market. Theoretical framework: The conceptual frame of references is based on two major sections where the first considers the context of digital and sustainable firms and exhibits the essences of digital and sustainable business model designs and how to sustain competitiveness through the interrelation of dynamic capabilities and strategic agility. In the second section the study brings forward theory supporting the exploration of an agile internationalization for digital firms, such as virtual markets and ecosystems. The key theoretical forthcomings are summarized into a conceptual framework that combines the role and interplay of entrepreneurs, business models, as well as networks and ecosystems on the basis of strategic agility and dynamic capabilities, that jointly foster an agile and virtual internationalization. Methodology: The interpretive research used an explorative and abductive approach to perform a qualitative multiple case design. The empirical study was based on six Cleantech-as-a-Service companies where in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with the informants of significant positions. The thematic and content data analysis supported the identification of common patterns and themes through coding which guided the subsequent analysis chapter. Findings: Our study revealed characteristics and success factors of Cleantech-as-a-Service ventures operating on global volatile markets, which adopt a leagile approach. The findings supported a definition of the concept but also identified the dynamic capabilities and flexible business models leveraged to sustain international competitive agility. The key agile capabilities relate to networking, experimenting, and learning whereas business model characteristics confer resiliency, interdependency, and efficiency.

Some aspects of the Wilson loop

Wuttke, Sebastian 22 May 2015 (has links)
This thesis is motivated by the AdS/CFT correspondence and the duality between gluon scattering amplitudes and light-like polygonal Wilson loops in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. At strong coupling light-like polygonal Wilson loops and gluon scattering amplitudes have a description in terms of space-like minimal surfaces in AdS5. We use a Pohlmeyer reduction to derive a classification of all space-like minimal surfaces in AdS3xS3 that have flat projections. The classification consists of nine different classes and contains space-like, time-like and degenerated AdS3 projections. For solutions that admit a closed light-like polygonal boundary we calculate the regularized area. At weak coupling light-like polygonal Wilson loops and gluon scattering amplitudes obey the BDS Ansatz corrected by a remainder function. We present a renormalisation group equation technique using self-crossing Wilson loops to extract the divergences of the remainder function in this limit. Using this technique we analyse two different types of self-crossing. We present the leading and sub-leading divergences up to four loops for a crossing between two edges and the leading divergences for a crossing between two vertices. For a crossing between two edges we present an analytic continuation to the euclidean regime to predict certain terms that have to occur in the unknown analytic expression of the remainder function.

Κουφάκης, Ελευθέριος 04 February 2014 (has links)
Nanocomposite systems, which include ferroelectric or piezoelectric particles represent a novel class of materials which are expected to exhibit functional properties because of the varying polarization of the ceramic particles. Dispersing ceramic inclusions within a polymer matrix, results in enhanced mechanical and electrical behavior. Such material systems exhibiting enhanced electrical response are used in electronic applications, for the reduction of leakage currents, as integrated nano- capacitors and as acoustic emission sensors. The electrical response of these composites, namely dielectric permittivity and conductivity can be tailored, by controlling the type, the size and the amount of ceramic inclusions. The ceramic filler could be ferroelectric and/or piezoelectric crystal particles. Their high level of polarization can be combined with a polymer host, like an epoxy resin – which is, in general, electrical insulator – with low dielectric permittivity and high dielectric breakdown strength. This combination could lead in the development of a smart materials’ system. The aims of this work are the preparation and characterization of epoxy resin nanocomposites with embedded zinc titanate (ZnTiO3) and nanoparticles and in tandem hybrid system of epoxy resin– zinc titanate (ZnTiO3) and barium titanate (BaTiO3) nanoparticles. In the first part of this work basic aspects concerning composite materials, dielectric theory, electrical behaviour and characterization techniques of polymer matrix composites are presented. In the experimental part of this study, nanocomposites were prepared by employing commercially available materials such as epoxy resin, ceramic ZnTiO3 and BaTiO3 nanopowder. The mean particle diameter, as indicated by the supplier, was less than 100nm for ZnTiO3 and 30-50nm for BaTiO3 particles. Furthermore, morphology, thermal and electrical response of the produced specimens was examined. The morphology of the specimens was checked for voids and clusters, by means of Scanning Electron Microscopy and the thermal response via Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Ceramic particles distribution is considered as satisfactory, although clusters co-exist with nanodispersions in all the examined systems. The dielectric properties and the related relaxation phenomena were studied by means of Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BDS) in the temperature range from -100 oC to 160 oC and frequency range from 10-1 Hz to 10-6 Hz. Experimental data analysis was conducted by means of dielectric permittivity and electric modulus formalisms. Based on the conducted analysis, the recorded relaxation phenomena include contributions from both the polymeric matrix and the reinforcing phase. In the spectra of hybrid nanocomposites at least four relaxation processes can be detected. They were attributed to Interfacial Polarization phenomenon (MWS effect), α-mode due to glass/rubber transition of the polymer and β- , γ- modes resulting from the motion of polar side groups and local motion of small segments of the polymer chain. The functionality of the nanocomposite systems is related to the variation of polarization, which is directly connected to the real part of dielectric permittivity, the dependence of conductivity on the temperature and the filler content, and the energy storage efficiency expressed by the density of energy.

New applications of Antrad Medical's thawing technology : Applications within the clinical and laboratory segment / Nya tillämpningar av Antrad Medicals upptiningsteknik : Klinik- och laboratorietillämpningar

Truvé, Malin, Kilegran, Johanna January 2016 (has links)
Antrad Medical has developed an ultra-fast blood plasma thawing device named UFT100. The method is based on thawing with an oscillating electrical field and unlike water baths it is a dry method. Fast and homogeneous thawing is achieved. This project investigates new possible applications where this thawing technology could be used within the clinical and laboratory segment. The aim was to identify existing thawing and heating methods for a substance that can be improved and potentially replaced with the UFT100.   Data has been collected through literature research and interviews with Antrad Medical and specialists working in Sweden. The specialists are working within the clinical and laboratory field. A number of criteria for establishment of the UFT100 were set up and used as a tool for evaluation.   The substances investigated during this project were infusion medicine, embryos, substance in a sampling tube, protein based pharmaceuticals, stem cells for transplantation and research, biobank sampling tubes, cryoprecipitate, human hepatocytes, live vaccines, API, BDS, intermediate and antibodies. Two applications within the clinical area are found probable, stem cells and cryoprecipitate. Further investigation for human hepatocytes, API, BDS, intermediate and pharmaceuticals is needed.
