Estampagem eletromagnética de chapas finas : viabilidade técnica / Electromagnetic forming of thin metal sheets: technical feasibility

Paese, Evandro January 2010 (has links)
This dissertation presents a mathematical model and numerical method to solve the problems of electromagnetic forming of thin circular metal sheets by using a flat spiral coil. The method focuses specifically on the calculation of the electromagnetic field generated by the coil flat and circuit analysis modeling system electromagnetic forming. The flat coil is approximated by concentric circles carrying a discharge current of capacitors. The calculations of induced currents and profile of the electromagnetic force on the plate and magnetic coupling between the coil and sheet metal are made to the initial time, before the plastic deformation of the plate. The method uses the law of Biot-Savart, and the solution of the integral obtained for magnetic induction is performed by numerical methods, considering the symmetries of the problem. To verify the mathematical model, the numerical solution and proving the technical feasibility of this process, a electromagnetic forming device was developed and several experiments were made with aluminum plates. The parameters investigated were the thickness of the plate to be deformed and the influence of the vacuum in the cavity of the tool. The experimental results show agreement with the results of the proposed model. The presence of vacuum also showed an increase in the deformation of the plate. A routine developed in software Matlab provide important information for the process and allow to make adjustments on the device.

Ramos Da Silva, Mikaël 24 June 2010 (has links)

[en] A COUPLED MODEL FOR TWO-PHASE FLOW THROUGH ELASTOPLASTIC POROUS MEDIA / [pt] UM MODELO ACOPLADO PARA FLUXO BIFÁSICO EM MEIOS POROSOS ELASTOPLÁSTICOS

NELSON INOUE 21 December 2005 (has links)
[en] This dissertation studies a coupled flow and deformation model for saturated and non-saturated soils, based on Biot`s theory but taking into account the nonlinear material behavior of soil. In the non-saturated condition the fluid flow can be considered either as a two-phase or an one-phase problem. In the two-phase case, the model calculates the pressure of air and water simultaneously, thus permitting the evaluation of the pore suction values and the degree of saturation. Once known, the degree of saturation is used for the determination of the relative permeability of the soil considering the flow of water and air, solving a problem that is nonlinear with respect to permeability. In the one-phase flow, the pressure of air is kept constant and equal to the atmospheric pressure. The stress-strain nonlinear behavior of non-saturated soils is modeled through the basic Barcelona model (BBM model) based on plasticity theory and concepts from the critical state behavior of soils. This model may be understood as an extension of the modified Cam Clay model frequently used for representation of the mechanical behavior of saturated soils. The suction influence on the shear resistance of non-saturated soils is examined through some numerical applications. In this work, the material nonlinearity of dry or saturated soils is also simulated through the Lade & Kim elastoplastic model.

A simplified vortex method for wind turbine simulation

Malusa, Sandro January 2019 (has links)
A new vortex model for wind turbines was developed in order to evaluate the loads at the blades and other important characteristics of interest for the wind industry such as power and thrust coefficients. Nowadays, the calculation of these quantaties is done in a reliable and precise manner with LES simulation using actuator line or actuator disk models. However, LES simulations are computationally heavy and the model here developed aims at calculating the same quantities of interest in less time but still giving reliable and accurate results for any wind turbine model. The idea of a vortex model for wind turbines was developed by Segalini &amp; Aöfredsson, J. Fluid Mech., vol. 725, pages 91-116, 2013, using vortex filaments to reproduce the vorticity on the blades and in the wake. Nevertheless, that model had some limitations, among which, the main one, was the impossibility to simluate wind turbines with varying circulation along the blade, something that is always present in reality. With this thesis it is proposed a model based on the one of Segalini &amp; Alfredsson (2013) but with the introduction of a vortex sheet that allows to simulate a vorticity release from the wind turbine blades and hence wind turbines with varying circulation along the blades. The model was validated against a LES simulation of the Tjaereborg wind turbine by Sarmast, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, 2014, that utilized an actuator line model. The results confirmed the improvement of the vortex model compared to the previous one of Segalini &amp; Alfredsson (2013) and gave consistent results regarding the flow field at the rotor plane and the loads on the blades.

In order to carry out the transportation of all electric energy, it is essential to use transmission lines, which with increasing energy demand inevitably have tended to multiply throughout the world, and especially in Brazil, given its continental dimensions. Considering the function of the transmission lines for the electrical system, its importance in the context of the electric power supply is remarkable. However, the lines constitute one of the great emitting sources of electric and magnetic fields of low frequency, which has caused concern and has been motivating fact of several studies, like the realized in this work. Therefore, in view of the scenario presented in the previous paragraph, it is necessary to establish ways of calculating the fields more and more precisely. For the calculation of the electric field is used the Image Method, the Maxwell Potential Coefficients Method and the Coulomb Law, and for the magnetic field the Biot-Savart's Law is used. The results obtained for the electric and magnetic fields were for infinite rectilinear geometries, finite rectilinear and for the conductors taking the form of a catenary, the latter geometry being the most real model for the arrangement of the conductors in a line. In all cases treated, an analytical and numerical approach was performed, in order to allow the calculation of the three geometries with accuracy. Taking advantage of the methodology of calculation of the fields, in addition this work proposes a method of support to the monitoring of transmission lines. The method consists of using the Genetic Algorithm associated to the values of the electric and magnetic fields measured to determine the parameters of the line, such as: phase spacing, cable-soil height, equivalent conductor diameter, current and operating voltage. Given the simplicity of implementation when compared to other methods, the achievement of satisfactory results and the need for a single measuring device to monitor the transmission line, the proposed method proves to be viable and promising to carry out the line monitoring process.

Wave-Associated Seabed Behaviour near Submarine Buried Pipelines

Shabani, Behnam January 2008 (has links)
Master of Engineering (Research) / Soil surrounding a submarine buried pipeline consolidates as ocean waves propagate over the seabed surface. Conventional models for the analysis of soil behaviour near the pipeline assume a two-dimensional interaction problem between waves, the seabed soil, and the structure. In other words, it is often considered that water waves travel normal to the orientation of pipeline. However, the real ocean environment is three-dimensional and waves approach the structure from various directions. It is therefore the key objective of the present research to study the seabed behaviour in the vicinity of marine pipelines from a three-dimensional point of view. A three-dimensional numerical model is developed based on the Finite Element Method to analyse the so-called momentary behaviour of soil under the wave loading. In this model, the pipeline is assumed to be rigid and anchored within a rigid impervious trench. A non-slip condition is considered to exist between the pipe and the surrounding soil. Quasi-static soil consolidation equations are then solved with the aid of the proposed FE model. In this analysis, the seabed behaviour is assumed to be linear elastic with the soil strains remaining small. The influence of wave obliquity on seabed responses, i.e. the pore pressure and soil stresses, are then studied. It is revealed that three-dimensional characteristics systematically affect the distribution of soil response around the circumference of the underwater pipeline. Numerical results suggest that the effect of wave obliquity on soil responses can be explained through the following two mechanisms: (i) geometry-based three-dimensional influences, and (ii) the formation of inversion nodes. Further, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the influence of soil, wave and pipeline properties on wave-associated pore pressure as well as principal effective and shear stresses within the porous bed, with the aid of proposed three-dimensional model. There is strong evidence in the literature that the failure of marine pipelines often stems from the instability of seabed soil close to this structure, rather than from construction deficiencies. The wave-induced seabed instability is either associated with the soil shear failure or the seabed liquefaction. Therefore, the developed three-dimensional FE model is used in this thesis to further investigate the instability of seabed soil in the presence of a pipeline. The widely-accepted criterion, which links the soil liquefaction to the wave-induced excess pressure is used herein to justify the seabed liquefaction. It should be pointed out that although the present analysis is only concerned with the momentary liquefaction of seabed soil, this study forms the basis for the three-dimensional analysis of liquefaction due to the residual mechanisms. The latter can be an important subject for future investigations. At the same time, a new concept is developed in this thesis to apply the dynamic component of soil stress angle to address the phenomenon of wave-associated soil shear failure. At this point, the influence of three-dimensionality on the potentials for seabed liquefaction and shear failure around the pipeline is investigated. Numerical simulations reveal that the wave obliquity may not notably affect the risk of liquefaction near the underwater pipeline. But, it significantly influences the potential for soil shear failure. Finally, the thesis proceeds to a parametric study on effects of wave, soil and pipeline characteristics on excess pore pressure and stress angle in the vicinity of the structure.

Lombard, Bruno 20 January 2010 (has links) (PDF)

Time-domain numerical modeling of poroelastic waves: the Biot-JKD model with fractional derivatives

Blanc, Emilie 05 December 2013 (has links) (PDF)
