Review of Effective Injury Preventing and Performance Enhancing Strategies for RunnersDolinger, Jessica 01 May 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to piece together proven techniques for injury prevention and rehabilitation in runners and use this information to outline the best techniques to make invulnerable the body of a runner and maximally enhance his or her performance. This review will cover the specific muscles that, when strengthened or stretched, are closest linked to improved performance when running. Furthermore, shared characteristics of specific running injuries will be made, as well as examinations of debates for effective running injury rehabilitation strategies. By doing this, an understanding of running related injuries, and the studied exercises and techniques that can treat them, can be created. In order to prevent injury and improve the efficiency of a runner’s body, it is vital to piece together unique contemporary beliefs and disprove or uphold certain old views on which exercises work to build specific muscles involved in running mechanics within a variety of populations.

L'ΕΡS au défi de l'individuatiοn : recherches sur la cοntributiοn de la matrice de l'individuatiοn psychique et cοllective à la discipline scοlaire "Εducatiοn Ρhysique et Spοrtive" / PSE faces the challenge of individuation : research on the contribution of the matrix of psychic and collective individuation to the school discipline "Physical and Sports Education"Delattre, Benjamin 03 June 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this work is to create the conditions of an epistemological encounter between, on the one hand: the matrix of the psychic and collective individuation process, and on the other hand: physical education as a subject of learning and teaching. Gilbert Simondon first developed the philosophical theory of psychic and collective individuation process. Therefrom, Bernard Stiegler made it his own and rebuilt it while putting technics at its core. More precisely, for Stiegler, this theory rests on technics which is the main part of the process. Moreover, he shows that technics is, most of the time, excluded from epistemology. Throughout the concepts forged within this matrix, we can figure out the different patterns human societies went through. Moreover, understanding these patterns leads us to consider clearly their prospects and evolution. This work summarizes the main concepts seen as essential to define this matrix, while some of these concepts were given more attention. The organologic approach studies history and the prospects of body organs, technical tools, and social organizations. This approach brought to light the starting point for the topic concerning the contributions as well as the disputations within the past and present views of physical education (1880-2016). This process shows that the epistemic background mainly leads to consider the student action in terms of adjustment or in terms of mastering. We propose to turn this approach into a new one where the student will ease into new behavior using technics (such as physical ones or mnemonics) so that they can develop the motor attention. This view is based on the idea developed by Pierre Parlebas, seizing his work as well as the critical reviews of it. Therefore, we rely on the notion of forming symbolic motor behavior. This work also presents a theory attempting to report how the formation of these assets includes three major components: the performative component of the behavior, the relational component and the meta motor component. To test this theory, observations were made on a class of eighth graders practicing badminton. This case study points out two essential ideas: revealing the effects of an educational way of teaching based on the formation of a progressive and symbolic motor behavior (seen as "faire corps"), showing how two of the three components are specifically connected: the performative component and the meta motor component.

THE EFFECTS OF SPINAL MANIPULATIVE THERAPY ON ISOKINETIC STRENGTH AND POSTACTIVATION POTENTIATIONSanders, Grant D. 01 January 2015 (has links)
Spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) is a therapeutic procedure employed by various healthcare practitioners for alleviating acute and chronic musculoskeletal complaints. This form of treatment is also delivered to enhance the performance and augment the rehabilitation of athletes. However, despite research findings alleging the strength-modulating effects of SMT alongside numerous professional athletes’ positive anecdotal claims concerning its results, the physiological processes to explain its effects remain largely unexplained. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to investigate the effects of SMT in a college-aged sample population with two experiments.
The first study examined the effect of SMT targeting the lumbosacral region on concentric force production of the knee extensors and flexors. A randomized, controlled, single-blind crossover design was utilized with 21 subjects. Isometric and isokinetic peak torques (Nm) were recorded during maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVIC) or maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) post-treatment of either SMT or a sham manipulation. The second study incorporated the same experimental design with 20 subjects to examine the effects of SMT on central nervous system (CNS) excitability. This was accomplished by assessing postactivation potentiation (PAP), measured with the Hoffmann Reflex (H-reflex). PAP is an enhanced neuromuscular response to prior contractile activity, and the H-reflex is the electromyographic (EMG) recording of submaximal electrical stimulation of the Ia monosynaptic reflex pathway. Subsequent to SMT and/or a plantar flexion MVIC, EMG amplitudes and isometric twitch torque generation of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles were recorded during tibial nerve stimulations.
The results of the first study indicate that SMT did not produce a significant strength-modulating effect during isometric and isokinetic contractions of neither knee extension nor flexion. Similarly, the second study revealed that SMT immediately preceding the MVIC to induce PAP did not significantly increase H-reflex EMG amplitudes of either muscle or the simultaneous isometric twitch torque generation compared to the MVIC only. These data from both investigations suggest that SMT does not enhance strength or PAP. The positive anecdotal claims of athletes who utilize SMT may be due to other factors, such as the clinical efficacy of the treatment in addressing musculoskeletal injuries or a placebo effect.

Improved truck engine control for crane driving : - Focusing on fuel consumption / Förbättrad lastbilsmotorstyrning vid krankörning : - Med fokus på bränsleförbrukningSvensson, Martin January 2008 (has links)
Due to increased demands on fuel economy the question of a more intelligent engine control for driving a truck-mounted crane has been raised. The aim of this thesis is to develop a new engine control for crane driving. The primary concern for the new engine control is fuel economy, but other factors, such as driver environment and drivability, have been taken into consideration as well. A literature study investigating engine control in construction machines has also been carried out and the results are presented in this report. Due to the fact that the hydraulic control system as well as the diesel engine control system is designed by the same construction machine manufacturer, more complex control strategies are utilized in these applications. In order to test the new control strategy a full-scale test has been carried out on a Scania truck with a crane from Hiab. The results point towards lower fuel consumption, better driver experience and lower noise levels. Some of the control features of the new control are suggested to be placed in the crane, and some in the truck. Only a small expansion of the communication between truck and crane would be necessary in order for the new control strategy to work. The experiences from the literature study point on several features utilized in construction machines that could be implemented in the crane control of the future.
