Studies in the Book of Jubilees : the themes of calendar, genealogy and chronology

Rook, John Thomas January 1984 (has links)
This thesis is divided into three distinct yet related chapters. The first chapter deals with the question of the actual calendar which is used in Jubilees. The work criticizes scholarly opinions concerning the calendar which have gone relatively unchallenged since the Qumran discovery. The chapter concludes that while the calendar question is difficult and many calendars can be detected as functioning in the work, it is the 28-day month which is dominant and not months of 30, 30 and 31 days. In the second chapter which deals with the genealogy of the patriarchs, the attention of the reader is directed to the names of the wives of the patriarchs. The question which the thesis raises at this point is related to the function of these women in the narrative in relation to the etymology of their names. The conclusion reached is that the narrative and the etymology of the names are clearly related. For example, when the etymological meaning of a woman is favourable, the narrative at that point is positive and vice versa. Chapter Three deals with chronology which is in close proximity to both calendar and genealogy. The question the thesis asks is how the chronology of Jubilees relates to the chronologies of MT, LXX and SP and also raises the question as to which chronology that of Jubilees is dependant upon for its structure. It is determined that Jubilees and SP are most closely related. The structure itself of the chronology of Jubilees is examined and it is concluded that the design is more concerned with past history than future history. The implications of the thesis on the questions of date and authorship are considered. The conclusion is reached that the author is a member of an unnamed conservative-pietist sect who wrote at a time later than Antiochus IV.

Deníky Bedřicha Smetany. Jejich pramenná hodnota a ediční problematika / Bedrich Smetana's Diaries.

Mojžíšová, Olga January 2013 (has links)
Deníky Bedřicha Smetany představují rozsahem i výpovědní hodnotou unikátní pramenný soubor.

Stakeholder Beliefs, Satisfaction and Assessments of School Climate after Implementation of a Year-Round Calendar.

Adams, Robin Lee 01 December 2001 (has links) (PDF)
Year-Round Schooling (YRS), a calendar or scheduling concept, has become quite common in this country over the past thirty years. Generally schools have adopted YRS scheduling in an effort to: (1) increase efficiency in the operation of the schools and (2) enhance student development and learning. The University School at East Tennessee State University (ETSU), a public K-12 school located on the ETSU campus, implemented a YRS calendar in the Summer of 1996. Over a period of six years data were collected to assess the effectiveness of YRS at University School. Study participants (students, parents and teachers) were surveyed initially in the early spring (Phase 1) and early summer (Phase 2) of 1996 (prior to implementation of YRS) to establish a baseline for data collection. Identical Phase 1 and 2 surveys were conducted in 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2001. A final Phase 3 survey consisted of a series of interviews conducted at the end of the 2000-2001 school year. During the spring a series of standardized surveys developed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) were used to assess the school climate and stakeholder satisfaction. The summer survey, locally developed by the College of Education (COE), focused on the reactions to YRS. The final survey consisted of structured interviews with the stakeholder groups. During each year of the study, over 92% of the students, 80% of the teachers, and 39% of the parents responded. A select group of teachers, parents and students participated in the final interviews. The data analysis conducted for Phases 1 and 2 consisted of a comparison of each pair of yearly results, 96, 97, 99, 2000 and 2001 using an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Phase 1 comparisons indicated that satisfaction levels increased after the implementation of YRS and school climate improved. Phase 2 surveys indicated stakeholders were more positive in their beliefs about teaching and learning and opinions of YRS after implementation. The results of the personal interviews reinforced the beliefs and opinions reported in Phases 1 and 2. Additional comparisons of students by grade levels and cohorts indicate a positive acceptance of YRS.

Schemaläggning med hjälp av maskininlärning / Scheduling with the assistance of Machine learning

Ogeborg, Marcus, Widerberg, Vincent January 2017 (has links)
This study has been analyzing if machine learning could be useful to work-relatedscheduling. The analysis was based on predictions generated by prototypes usingbusiness calendars. The business calendars were collected from two service and installationcompanies in the Stockholm region. An analysis was conducted regardingif the application could be practically applied to devices such as a smartphone. Theanalysis was based on tests regarding the prototypes required time to perform theirtasks.Three prototypes were developed with algorithms that made them predictive. Density-based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN), Logistic Regressionand Weighted K-Nearest Neighbors (wKNN) were the implemented algorithms.DBSCAN was the best-performing algorithm according to the tests. However, a conclusioncould not be found concerning whether machine learning could be useful. The number of successful predictions did not exceed the number of available timeson concerned days, which was assumed as unsatisfying results. In addition, the prototypesneeded a significant amount of resources which could be a problem in practicaluse.

A Resource-constrained CPM (RCPM) Scheduling and Control Technique with Multiple Calendars

Kim, Kyunghwan 04 August 2003 (has links)
This research presents a Resource-constrained Critical Path Method (RCPM) technique that capitalizes on and improves the existing Critical Path Method (CPM) and Resource-Constrained Scheduling (RCS) techniques. A traditional CPM schedule is not realistic since it assumes unlimited resources, some of which are highly limited in practice. Although traditional RCS techniques can consider resource limitations, they do not provide correct floats and the critical path as the CPM does. The difference between the theoretical remaining total float and the real remaining total float is referred to as "Phantom Float" in this study. Another disadvantage of the traditional RCS techniques is that work sequence in the schedule could be considerably changed with a schedule update resulting in high costs to reorganize it. These problems are caused by the fact that, in addition to technological relationships, a resource-constrained schedule contains resource dependencies between activities that are neglected in traditional RCS techniques. This study proposes a step-by-step RCPM algorithm to consider those resource-constrained relationships. Hence, the method can identify real floats and correct critical paths, considering both technological and resource-dependent relationships. RCPM also provides a certain level of stability with a schedule update due to the newly identified resource relationships. Based on the RCPM algorithm, a prototype RCPM system has been developed using Visual C++, Visual Basic, and Ra (Primavera Project Planner API). The system is integrated with P3, so that it reads project information directly from a P3 project, performs necessary RCPM procedures, and updates the P3 project to contain identified resource relationships. To make the system more practical, functions to handle multiple project calendars and progressed schedules have been included as well. / Ph. D.

Smartphone-kalendrar inom “Personal Ecology of Artifacts” : En studie kring akademiska studenters planering av tid med hjälp av smartphone-kalendrar / Smartphone calendars in “Personal Ecology of Artifacts” : A study of academic students time management with the help of smartphone calendars

Eriksson, Isa, Westergren, Fanny January 2018 (has links)

Megahed, El Zahraa 06 October 2016 (has links)
The present study The Role of Malevolent Demon Troops with the Livings in Ancient Egypt aims to determine the criteria that defines the role of the category of demons who manifest in troops to affect people in the earthly life. The subject of this study is discussed in nine chapters and an annex including the corpora. It is better to start by displaying the contents of the corpora. The first chapter of the thesis entitled Arising of the Role of Demon Troops in Terrestrial Life and Aspects Identifying its Nature identifies three main points: Sources Recording the Role of Demon Troops with Mortals on Earth, The Role of Demon Troops: When and Why? And Preliminary Notes about Demon Troops.Chapter two bears the title Identification of Demon Troops. The troops studied in this chapter are arranged according to their importance, that aspect is determined upon the analysis of the roles attributed to each of these troops regarding the time of appearance and the diversity of roles. These troops are: #Atyw “The Executioners, Wpwtyw “The Messengers”, ^mAyw “The Wanderers”, @nTtyw “The Butchers”, awAyw “The Robbers”, %wAw “The Passers-by”, and @rytyw “Those Who Spread Terror”. Details about the connotations of the name, the main roles and tasks are discussed under each troop of demons.Chapter three entitled Designations: The Ontology of Identity and Character discusses the different titles and epithets that appeared in the corpora as designation for the troops of demons identified in chapter two. The most important of these designations are: NTrw “Divine”, NDstyw “minor Divinities”, Mdwt “Words (of Gods)”, Prryw m Irt Re “Who Go Out from the Eye of Re”, &pyw-a-%xmt “Vaunguards of Sekhmet”, Imyw-xt %xmt “Rearguards of Sekhmet”, ^msw “The Retinues”, Wpwtyw “Messengers”, NTrw mDAwt “Gods of Books”, Apdw “Birds”, TAw “Winds”, %bAw “Stars”, Imyw-spspw “Those with the knives”, %tyw “Those who shoot arrows”, ^srw “Arrows”, bin “The Bad”, _Sr “The red”, +Ayw “The Adversaries”, +ww “The Evil”. These designations are presented classified according to thematic categories identifying them.Chapter four bears the title Propagation and Provocation of Demon Troops on Earth: Superordinate Deities and Threat Zones. It deals with the main aspects that control the manifestation of demons on earth. The most important element is the deities who control demons. Chapter five deals with Nature of Task of the Demon Troops on Earth. The rubrics of this chapter study the aspects that identify the role of demons in the earthly life and how the demonic task can be defined regarding the elements of duality and enmity and so on.Chapter six presents Plan and Course of the Task. The aim of this chapter is identifying the actions that demons follow in order to affect people.Chapters seven and eight deal with the Impact of Demon Troops in Terrestrial Life. They respectively discusses the Death and the Disease. Finally chapter nine comes to define The Role of Magic in the Protection of Mortals against Demon Troops on Earth. The aspects connected to time, location and the targeted are also entailed.Concerning the corpora, the sources of the study are arranged in four parts, each of which deals with a group of texts from the same category. The order of presenting the categories is according to their importance. In the first part the Magical Prophylactic Incantations are firstly introduced as the apogee of the Egyptian thought concerning the capacity of demons to affect the different aspects of the life of people on earth.
