Previous issue date: 2013-09-27 / This thesis aims to analyze the role of play and games in the context of early childhood education and how does the media influence and media in children s play; tensed verify the actions of teachers and management team on the possible influence of ICT on the behavior of children aged 4-6 years, both electronic games, such as media characters. Given the infancy of the digital era, sporting, thinks and acts in direct contact with ICT, justified the need for this research, based on Kamii Moyles and on the stages of human development and the importance of play for children full training. The research adopted procedures and qualitative case study design as for being an approach that can substantiate the situations experienced within the Institution of Child Education. Survey participants were the director and coordinator of school and four teachers Childhood Education network of the Municipality of the City of Birigüi-SP. Data interpretation was developed through content analysis. The survey conducted showed that ICTs are part of everyday life for children, since children participate less of traditional sports and games in school and are more interested in handling electronic devices such as games, phones, internet and also watch TV at home. The teachers recognized the importance of play, however, that reputation was assigned only in discourse, because we did not observe the actual practice within the speeches collected through interviews. We found that the teacher lacks solid theoretical foundation to pursue their practice, through training teachers, in order to provide quality learning resources for their students.

Previous issue date: 2018-06-13 / The the Information and Communication Technologies (TICs) are increasingly present in all
life’s sectors, in personal relationships, leisure, work, education, society and culture. The
present research aimed at identifying the main trends, contributions and pedagogical
categories related to TICs in education. More specifically, the interfaces presented in the
articles of the Brazilian Journal Education (RBE) from 2006 to 2017. RBE is an important
vehicle for scientific communication, nationally and internationally. The selection of the
articles occurred initially by reading the title, the abstract and the keywords culminating in the
complete reading. There were 21 articles identified according to the purpose of the research.
The categories identified were: teacher training, society, work and education, pedagogical
practice, teaching and learning. There were discrepancies among the authors regarding to the
terminologies referring to the TICs. Different approaches and methodologies appeared, as
well as difficulties in delimiting the theme. The initial training in the online education
modality worries despite of the rapid expansion of the courses, the lack of regulation, has
become trivialized and causes slightness in graduation, a threat to public education and to the
universities. At school, there is a lack of physical resources, pedagogical materials and
structure investments. This makes it difficult to implement digital culture. However, there is
consensus in the research on the importance of studies, research, and development of projects
for digital inclusion. The information obtained indicates some possibilities. The current
moment demands responsibility, not to increase inequalities, discrimination and social
exclusion. TICs need to be seen as resources, instruments of historical socialization,
indispensable in today’s culture of societies. Therefore, in order to face the barriers found in
educational contexts, such as indiscipline, lack of interest and motivation of students, it’s
necessary to understand this process as cultural. To obtain knowledge, to intensify the
discussions and to research on the subject, is essential to the TICS demystification in
education. As possibilities in pedagogical practice, in training and in teaching, there are
situations of collaborative learning mediated in virtual environments. The construction of real
knowledge in a virtual world requires conscious subjects of their social value. Learning in a
world full of technologies demand interest and can contribute to human, critical and
autonomous training in digital time.
As informações obtidas apontam algumas
possibilidades.

Evaluation of University-Library Knowledge Management Practice: Comparative Case Studies from Developing and Developed CountriesAlzghoul, Amro January 2013 (has links)
Knowledge management (KM) has become a vital part of the successful development of private and governmental organizations. KM is processed tools and behaviors that participate in the formulation and performance of the beneficiaries of the organization, acquisition, storage and distribution of knowledge. This is to reflect on the business processes and to gain access to best practices with a view to long-term competition and adaptation. In this context, the personal understanding of KM is a key factor in successful employments of KM activities. In this thesis, the level of understanding of knowledge management and the extent of its usage in the university library by librarians was investigated. A comparison study was established between libraries in developed and developing countries. Interviews and observations were performed and the results were analyzed. The results indicate the concept of KM is hardly known, however it is employed to different extent between these counties, the developed countries were by far more successful in utilizing current technology to advance their service and personal expertise with few challenges. Lack of communication, knowledge sharing, and the shortage in the budget was essential in limiting the usage of KM in developing counties. The knowledge derived from this thesis advances an understanding of the importance of KM in library performance, thus presenting the basis for improving libraries in developing countries and advancing libraries in developed countries.

Home and away: circular migration, mobile technology, and changing perceptions of home and community in deindustrial Cape BretonMcIntyre, Mark 30 April 2018 (has links)
This thesis engages deindustrialization as a lived process and applies the concepts of precarity as they relate to communities navigating processes of deindustrialization. Through ethnographic interviews and participant observation research conducted over the summer of 2017 I examine the lived experiences of circular migrant labourers and their significant others, who live in the former coal town of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, as they engage in strategies to keep their families in the community. I explore the continuities of industrialization, deindustrialization and labour; the history of work in the region; the present sacrifices that families make to stay in the communities; why families stay; and what they circular migrant labourers and their significant others imagine the future of the region will look like as they raise their children there. Further, as circular migrant labourers are away from home and their families for significant amounts of time, often at irregular schedules, I ask about the strategies that labourers and their families use to eke out a living in a marginalized community. I ask participants what it is like to have to leave the community for work; what it is like to stay behind while your significant other is away for work; what is it like to be home together; and what strategies are used to keep in touch. One such strategy is the use of internet communication technologies to negotiate physical and social distance. However, these technologies do not always necessarily make up for time spent away from loved ones. / Graduate / 2019-04-17

Towards an understanding of the strategic use of mobile ICT in small and medium enterprisesMaree, Michiel David January 2014 (has links)
Mobile information and communication technology (ICT) has the capability to strategically influence and completely transform SMEs. It provides heterogeneous benefits in information sharing, collaboration and corporate interactions. However, mobile resources do not improve competitive performance on their own. Instead, purposeful or tacit strategic actions are required to combine existing resources in innovative ways, to acquire additional valuable resources or to dispose of redundant resources. Companies have to accomplish this quickly and repeatedly if they are to remain competitive. This research project employs the strategic management theory of dynamic capabilities (DCs) in a qualitative case study to analyse the transformational capacity of mobile ICT in each SME from a strategic perspective. Candidates from ten SMEs were interviewed. The data was analysed to identify: a) the DCs that are essential for mobile transformation in SMEs, and b) the practices that develop and maintain the effectiveness of these capabilities. Eight distinct mobile DCs are identified, each contributing to firm performance, profitability or strategic advantage over competitors. The results were consistent with previous research in DCs by confirming a maximised effectiveness of capabilities when they are tautly coupled with business strategy. The dissertation concludes with valuable guidelines and a conceptual framework for SMEs to strategically utilise mobile ICT and achieve mobile transformation. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / gm2014 / Informatics / unrestricted

The relationship between information and communication technologies and foreign direct investment at the different stages of investment development pathAlexander, Deepu 04 April 2011 (has links)
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has grown exponentially in the recent past and has become one of the most important measures of globalisation. Today, Information and communication technologies (ICT) are viewed as one of the necessary conditions for the globalisation of business activities. ICT is also seen as a general purpose utility in many developed countries. Additionally, in many developing and so called emerging economies, there have been significant investments in ICT. Very recent studies show that the adoption and investment in ICT leads to economic growth and productivity gains at a macro-level. However, the link between ICT and FDI needs further exploration, especially in least developed and developing countries. This study aims to shed more light on internal factors that might explain the behaviour of FDI in emerging and developing economies and to understand if ICT capabilities of economies play a significant factor in foreign direct investments. The results from the study show that there is indeed a relationship between ICT and FDI in developing and developed countries; however, this relationship is not significant in least developed countries.
