This study investigates how gendering conceptions and practices affect couples conflicts and husband s physical, psychological or sexual violence against his partner. Four couples, which have police report of physical aggression perpetrated by husbands against their wives and an history of this kind of violence, were individually interviewed, based on a two-section instrument: the first part collected participant s socio-demographic data and, the second one, an interview script, aimed to investigate the participants conceptions about man, woman and couple relationship. Data were analyzed by using software Alceste (Analyse Lexicale par Contexte d um Ensemble de Segments de Texte) and Content Analysis. Results demonstrated the agreement between husbands and wives about two relevant points: a) traditional gender conceptions which guide domestic practices and the couple relationship and, b) comprehension that violence episodes result of husbands attempt to control female behaviors they understand as wrong or inadequate. These behaviors have in common the fact they threat the hegemonic model of masculinity and deny, someway, the traditional and naturalized conception of women, as the access to public domain as a result of paid work. Wives detailed the violence contexts, types of aggression (physical, psychological and/or sexual) and physical and emotional injuries. On the other hand, husbands denied occurrences of sexual violence and minimized physical aggressions and their consequences by describing fights as episodes of little or ephemeral implications to their wives and relationships. Results were discussed based on two main concepts, hegemonic masculinity and female empowerment, emphasizing the violent reactions of the interviewed husbands when in confront with their wives signs of autonomy and approaches to male and female prejudices occasioned by man s exclusion from debates about female empowerment.

The intimate partner violence (IPV) is a social phenomenon and a public health problem. However, in the most of cases, the violence is discussed only considering the women as victims and men as her respective aggressor. Thus this research aims to investigate and collect information about the intimate partner violence against man perpetrated by his partners in Juiz de Fora. We used qualitative data through self applied semi-structured interviews with 40 professionals and trainees of psychology and social work and singles interviews, recorded and transcribed with 8 male victims of IPV. For analysis, we used descriptive statistics and content analysis of Bardin (2011). Of the founded results 95.0% of professionals and trainees said has believed in the possibility of man to be a victim of IPV and 37.5% affirmed had already attended men in this situation. In relation to men who were victims of their partners, psychological violence, controlling behavior and physical violence were most frequently categories which have been mentioned relative to suffered aggression. Through this study, we notice the existence of IPV against men in the city of Juiz de Fora - MG and the necessity of new studies that should be identify more information on this specific type of violence.

Psicoterapia breve de problemas conjugais : informatização de registros na clínica institucional / Brief psychotherapy of marital conflict : informatization of reports in institutional clinic

Martha Serôdio Dantas 31 August 2007 (has links)
This research aims to exam and refine a set of data, developed and used by the staff of the Laboratório de Estudos da Conjugalidade: atendimento em psicoterapia breve (LEC). This computerized set of data is a tool which tries to improve the way the clinical material of the sessions of brief psychotherapy is recorded, making these reports able to be used in clinical-institutional work as well as in new researches; and, of course, this will contribute also to the work in the institutional clinic. This research was designed on the grounds of the author\'s experience in her activities as psychologist of the Clínica Psicológica do Instituto Sedes Sapientiae (ISS), particularly in the LEC. In her practice the author does brief psychotherapy - individual or with couples -, works in supervisions and discussions of cases in groups and attends lecture groups with the staff of the above mentioned LEC. In her practice the author uses mainly the technical and theoretical approaches of the following authors: Winnicott, Malan, Gilliéron, Bergeret and Hegenberg. By using as methodological framework the context analysis suggested by Bardin, and having as raw material for this investigation the reports made by the psychologists of the LEC between october/99 and july/04, we aim to systematize and ordinate the data. The focus of the research will be the records of the initial phase of the process of brief psychotherapy (preliminary evaluation). By the end of the research we expect to have refined the existing data permitting, from then on, the correct use of this set of records of clinical cases in new qualitative and quantitative researches with the support of modern techniques in informatics (developing of software).

Função sexual de mulheres com infertilidade / Sexual function of women with infertility

Priscilla Bianchini Salomão 01 August 2016 (has links)
Introduction: Infertility is a condition that affects, universally, a significant percentage (8- 15%) of couples. Infertility is often linked to an increase in sexual dysfunction rates and marital conflict. Objectives: To assess sexual function of infertile women and to assess the risk for anxiety and depression in infertile women. Methods: This is a controlled study with 280 women in reproductive age, being 140 women attended in Human Reproduction Sector of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo (FMRP-USP), and 140 controls recruited from the general population in Ribeirão Preto - SP. Sexual function was assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and the risk for anxiety and depression was measured by the Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD-A, HAD-D). Results: Twenty eight women participated in this study, being 140 women in infertile group (IG) and 140 controls (CG). In the IG, 104 (74.29%) had primary infertility, and 36 (25.71%) secondary infertility. In the entire sample female factor was evident in 64 (45.71%) and male factor in 38 (27.73%), and both 35 (25.54%) cases. In the IG, 64 (45.71%) underwent FIV / ICSI. There was a significant difference between groups in relation to median age (IG 36 [32-38]; CG 34 [31-37]) (p = 0.02). There was no significant difference between groups in the number of women = 40 years (p = 0.40). There was no significant difference between groups regarding the age of partners, number of sexual intercourse/week, BMI, weight and marital status. There was difference between groups regarding the time of relationship (IG, 11.80 ± 4.84 years (1.50 to 24) vs. CG, 10.40 ± 5.73 (0.50 to 26), p = 0.03). Stratifying for relationship time in IG 10 (7.14%) were < 5 years of relationship vs. 27 (19.29%) in the CG, and IG 130 (92.86%) had > 5 year relationship vs. 113 (80.71%) CG (p <0.01). The risk for sexual dysfunction was observed in 47 (33.57%) of the IG, and in 49 (35%) of the control group (p = 0.90). There was no significant difference between the majority scores of FSFI, but there was significant difference between groups regarding arousal domain, which was higher in CG (p = 0.04). There was no difference between groups regarding the risk for anxiety and depression. Risk factors for sexual dysfunction (SD), anxiety and depression in both groups, adjusted for the variables: age, BMI, marital status, length of relationship, education, pregnancy, contraception, birth, psychotherapy, cigarettes, alcohol, partner\'s age, risk for SD, anxiety and risk for depression showed that women who are at risk for anxiety have a higher risk for SD. Women at risk for depression, showed increased risk for SD. The SD was a risk factor for anxiety and depression. Married women showed less risk for depression than women who only live together with a partner. Conclusion: Infertile women showed no risk for sexual dysfunction compared to controls. Anxiety and depression are risk for sexual dysfunction in this sample.

The birth of a child with Down’s syndrome (DS) may have implications at family functioning and relationships established among family members. The literature indicates that parents of children with DS have good levels of marital satisfaction and similar levels of marital adjustment of parents of children with typical development (TD). In addition, the sibling relationship in these families has been described as positive, with characteristics of friendship, affection, companionship and synchrony. There is a tendency that the sibling with TD take the lead during the interactive episodes, presenting directive behaviors over the sibling with DS. This study aims to describe the quality of marital and sibling relationships in families with children with DS and the possible associations of the quality of these relationships, from the systemic perspective. The participants of this study were 17 families, four of them composed of father, mother and biological child with diagnosis of DS and 13 families composed of father, mother, biological child with SD and at least one child with TD. Data were collected in the families' homes and included these instruments and techniques: Questionnaire for Characterizing the Family System, semi-structured interviews, Dyadic Adjustment Scale, Observation of interactions between marital dyads using video technology, Sibling’s Questionnaire and Sibling Relationship Questionnaire. The results demonstrate that the marital relationships are characterized as friendly and adjusted, with good levels of consensus, cohesion, satisfaction and affectional expression. The interactions are marked by proximity and friendly atmosphere between the couple. Both spouses tend to participate actively and equitably in the discussion, valuing and recognizing one's position and ideas of each other. The sibling relationships are characterized by affection, closeness and companionship, with low levels of conflict and rivalry. The siblings with TD assume an older sibling's posture and have caring and protective behaviors with the sibling with DS. There is a positive association between dyadic conjugal cohesion and warmth/closeness between siblings. The wives of couples with inadequate adjustment perceive more rivalry in the sibling relationship of their children. Whereas the siblings in the families of couples with inadequate adjustment evaluate their relationship with their sibling with DS as having more conflicts than in families with adjusted couples. It is important to conduct longitudinal studies that use the multi-method approach and investigate the interrelationship between the different family subsystems to better understand the relationships developed in the families of people with DS.

The present research investigated the Social Representations (SR) of women in domestic violence situation of active police officers in the woman’s police station (WPS) of Recife. The survey took place in the 1st Police Station Precinct of Prevention and Repression of Crimes against Woman, located in the city of Recife - PE. The search was based on the Theory of Social Representations, developed by Serge Moscovici (2012), from the perspective of culturalist approach of Denise Jodelet (1989). The methodological strategy used was qualitative research and the data collection instruments was the field diary, developed through non-participant observation and semi-structured interview. For data analysis, we used the Thematic Content Analysis (BARDIN, 2009) following the following operating steps: formation of the corpus, floating reading, coding, categorization and inferences. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Pernambuco, and is based on Resolution 466/12 that guides the research with human beings. The analysis showed that women who are victims of violence are represented mainly from two poles "victims and the real victims," pointing to the uses that are made of WPS, and how the police deals with them. These Social Representations were anchored and objectified in concepts the biological sphere, social, emotional and health. It was observed that guided by this thought the police sought acting neutrally and impartially, seeking not to get emotionally involved with these women, to protect against affectation that this experience could generate and not to favor in their treatment neither women nor men. These data point out that new ways need to be plotted for the woman, when contacting the WPS, instead of finding indifference, being welcomed and finding possibilities of a more dignified existence away from violence. However for this to become a reality, the WPS also needs to be a realization space, which was not seen due to the lack of structure that it presents and the absorption of demands that should be worked by other organs of the woman care network.

Forgues-Marceau, Sarah 08 1900 (has links)
The different research concerning domestic homicides contribute numerous information relative to the context surrounding the actual homicide, the relationship between the spouses and the evolution, and occasionally on the childhood of the man who committed such an act towards his spouse or ex-spouse. However, certain incoherence’s have been raised among the research making it difficult to identify the pattern which leads husbands to kill their wives. The development of the lives of the men, who have killed their spouses, more precisely the significant events in their lives, is an avenue, to our knowledge, that has not been studied. The main objective of this Masters memoir in the field of criminology aims to explore, from a sample of men who have killed their wives, the possibility of identifying the chain of events that could contribute to the understanding of the pattern which leads to domestic homicide. More precisely, it aims at identifying the perceptions that men have of different events that they consider significant and the reactions which were caused by the said perceptions. The methodology used in this study is qualitative. The sample consists of ten incarcerated men. They all have been found guilty of murdering their wives or ex-wives. Following the semi-structured interviews, which were retrospective and thematic, a reconstruction of their lives, inspired by Agnew’s (2006) theory, was conducted Finally, thematic analysis of the events were also conducted. Although the significant events for each subject have their own specific characteristics, a common structure among the life lines is apparent. This structure is marked by an event or living conditions which had an impact on the subjects during childhood, hence an event which led the subjects to question themselves later on and an event which triggered the behavior leading to the murder. The event leading to the subjects questioning themselves seems to be central in the lives of the men who participated in our study. This questioning modify’s the behaviors and the attitudes manifested by the men. In light of these findings, it appears that the entire development of the lives of the uxoricides men, and more precisely the events they identify as significant and their chain reaction and, especially their self-perception during these events and the way they react must be taken into account when looking at the trajectory leading up to the homicide. Another factor to consider, is that many of the men interviewed mentioned that they felt that a dramatic event was about to take place in their lives. This suggests a certain predictability of the act that could be perceptible from their self-perception. There remains however much to do, in terms of transforming this discovery into a prevention tool applicable to uxoricide.

Boudreau, Marie-Ève 06 1900 (has links)
Conjugal violence is a frequent criminal phenomenon in the province of Quebec. In 2008, offences committed in conjugal context represented more than 20% of the crimes against the person reported to the police (Ministère de la Sécurité publique, 2010). Police and judicial intervention in conjugal context is complex, mainly because of the relationship existing between the aggressor and the victim. Even though the discretionary power of the judicial instances has decreased greatly over past decades in conjugal context, law enforcement agencies still benefits of a certain latitude in their decision to continue, or not, various stages of the legal process. Over time, several researches have studied police and legal decision-making in conjugal context. However, these various researches have generally studied only one stage of the judicial process and some decision-making factors have not been empirically tested. It is the case of the elements related to the stereotypes of conjugal violence. Some authors mention that the incidents which do not correspond to the stereotype of a male attacker using violence against an innocent female victim are subject to a more lenient judicial treatment, but these assertions are not based, to our knowledge, on any empirical data. This research will attempt to verify these assumptions by examining the impacts of these elements on five police and judicial decisions. By relying on a quantitative content analysis of various documents related to the judicial process of 371 incidents committed in conjugal context on the territory of Montreal’s police department Centre Opérationnel Nord in 2008, this research examine the use of discretion in the legal treatment of incidents committed in conjugal context. This study has three specific objectives. The first objective describes the judicial treatment of the incidents committed in conjugal context. Our results indicate that these incidents are subject to a more punitive treatment because they are more frequently submitted to court procedures than the other types of crimes. This more systematic judiciarisation could be an explanation for the weaker conviction rate of these incidents (17.2 %). The second objective describes the main characteristics of these incidents. The majority of these incidents involve physical violence and police officers intervene more frequently with people in current unions. The majority of the victims say that they have been previously victim of violence in their relationship and a third of them are willing to file a complaint against their aggressor. Finally, 78% of the incidents imply a male attacker and female victim whereas police officers suspect 14.29% of the victims of having made the first hostile or violent gesture. The last objective focuses on the identification of the elements associated to decision-making in conjugal context. The results confirm the hypothesis according to which the incidents that do not imply a male attacker and a female victim or those in which police officers suspect the victim of having made the first hostile or violent gesture are subject to a more lenient judicial treatment. Moreover, most of the decision-making factors studied lose of their influence during the legal process and the decisions previously taken strongly influence subsequent decisions. Finally, the victim’s desire to file a complaint does not directly influence legal decisions.

Renässansens "Power Couple" : Det äktenskapliga mecenatskapet mellan Piero di Cosimo de’ Medici och Lucrezia Tornabuoni / The ”Power Couple” of the Renaissance : The conjugal patronage between Piero di Cosimo de’ Medici and Lucrezia Tornabuoni

Blomström, André January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the patronage of Piero de’ Medici and Lucrezia Tornabuoni. My aim is to discuss and place the patronage in the complex field of the renaissance as an active conjugal partnership between the two. The study is divided in three main chapters, the introduction part where an overview of the main issues in the field of renaissance patronage and a background of the people involved; one chapter where the two religious rooms are introduced and the specific patronage described; and finally a chapter where the different procedures are discussed, compared and combined into one joint conjugal patronage for the both of them. The evidence uncovered supporting the conjugal patronage is partly the similarities between the altar paintings in the rooms. They are both made of Fra Filipo Lippi and both are portraying the Adoration of Infant Jesus. The presence of the coat of arms of both the noble houses at the Camaldoli adoration and a series of lettres between Piero and one of his painters, Benezzo Gozzoli.

"Famílias recompostas: casais católicos em segunda união". / Step Families: Catholic Couples on Second Union

Porreca, Wladimir 10 December 2004 (has links)
RESUMO PORRECA, W. Famílias Recompostas: Casais Católicos em Segunda União. 2004. 124f. / ABSTRACT PORRECA, W. Step Families: Catholic Couples on Second Union, 2004. 124f. Master’s Degree Dissertation – Faculdade de Filosofia Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP)/Universidade de São Paulo (USP), 2004. The familial institution has been going through several changes, including the increase of separations and divorces, and the reduction in the number of legal and religious matrimonies. Facing these transformations the Catholic Church, which defends the indissolubility of matrimony, along with couples that live on a second marital union intends to support the creation of the Pastoral Institution for Couples on Second Marital Union. The present work aims to analyze the familial organization of Catholic couples living a second union and taking part in the Pastoral Institution, to investigate the way through which union occurred, the marital separation, the second marital union and these couples´ motivations to continue being part of the Catholic community. The participants of the research were ten Catholic couples, in which partners live on a second union, with an age range between 30 and 50 years old, living in the cities of Aguaí, Mococa, Mogi Guaçu, São João da Boa Vista e São José do Rio Pardo, in the state of São Paulo, all of which under the religious jurisdiction of the Diocese of São João da Boa Vista. The data gathering was done through interviews that were recorded separately with each of the partners of the couple, transcribed in their entirety and guided by a script. The analysis of the data indicates that the main reasons for couple separation are connected to alcoholism, marital infidelity and the weariness of the affection dimension. The fact that most worries people who are about to be separate are the possible consequences that their children might suffer. The intention of the second marital union is based on the expectancy of constituting a new family, for companion and for a solid relationship. However, they feel sorry for the privations that are imposed by the Church to the couples who live on a second marital union, especially the fact that they cannot receive the Holy Communion. Taking part in the Pastoral Institution for Couples on Second Marital Union favors the interaction and social and religious conviviality of the couples in the Church and out of it and also allows them to overcome the discrimination they used to feel. The Pastoral Institution also allows the members of the Catholic church to have greater awareness about the meaning of welcoming these couples and also about their rights.
