Under the sociointeractionist perspective and with the support of the Network of Meanings perspective, the child is perceived as active constructor of their development, being asked to interpret their surroundings, creating a version of objects and social events affecting them. The family is an important social object to the child as it is their first and closest development context. This object is constantly transformed by sociocultural changes and disruptions of outcomes involving new family configurations. Like any other family member, the child develops new senses when facing different realities. This research aimed to scrutinize meanings of family in children 5-11 years. Among these are children whose parents are in court dispute for custody or regulation of visits, at the Tribunal de Justiça de Pernambuco (TJ-PE). The participants were 41 children, 25 boys and 16 girls. Of all participants, eight were children indicated by the Court, with the family's consent, to constitute the focal children in this study. The other children were invited to compose the collective situation of observation, using the criteria of belonging to the same school of the focal children, from the indication of the teachers. Therefore, for each focal child there were three, four or five close partners, who composed the eight workshops of games to plan theatrical productions about family. Then each individual was asked by the researcher to talk about family from two designs that it demanded: the first about "a family"; and the second on "your family". The results obtained with the two situations, the collective and the individual, show that children consider several modalities relevant to the family, such as nuclear families, single-parent, remarried or extensive families. It also shows that family relationships are predominantly care demonstration, protection and affectionate bonds. As for the experience of marital conflict in the family, among the eight focal children, four expressed feelings of dissatisfaction or showed evidence of that feeling. However, it is important to state that even with the difficulties arising from the conflict in daily life, these children make new meanings about family that preserve the primary role of care, affection and place of belonging.

"Famílias recompostas: casais católicos em segunda união". / Step Families: Catholic Couples on Second Union

Wladimir Porreca 10 December 2004 (has links)
RESUMO PORRECA, W. Famílias Recompostas: Casais Católicos em Segunda União. 2004. 124f. / ABSTRACT PORRECA, W. Step Families: Catholic Couples on Second Union, 2004. 124f. Master’s Degree Dissertation – Faculdade de Filosofia Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP)/Universidade de São Paulo (USP), 2004. The familial institution has been going through several changes, including the increase of separations and divorces, and the reduction in the number of legal and religious matrimonies. Facing these transformations the Catholic Church, which defends the indissolubility of matrimony, along with couples that live on a second marital union intends to support the creation of the Pastoral Institution for Couples on Second Marital Union. The present work aims to analyze the familial organization of Catholic couples living a second union and taking part in the Pastoral Institution, to investigate the way through which union occurred, the marital separation, the second marital union and these couples´ motivations to continue being part of the Catholic community. The participants of the research were ten Catholic couples, in which partners live on a second union, with an age range between 30 and 50 years old, living in the cities of Aguaí, Mococa, Mogi Guaçu, São João da Boa Vista e São José do Rio Pardo, in the state of São Paulo, all of which under the religious jurisdiction of the Diocese of São João da Boa Vista. The data gathering was done through interviews that were recorded separately with each of the partners of the couple, transcribed in their entirety and guided by a script. The analysis of the data indicates that the main reasons for couple separation are connected to alcoholism, marital infidelity and the weariness of the affection dimension. The fact that most worries people who are about to be separate are the possible consequences that their children might suffer. The intention of the second marital union is based on the expectancy of constituting a new family, for companion and for a solid relationship. However, they feel sorry for the privations that are imposed by the Church to the couples who live on a second marital union, especially the fact that they cannot receive the Holy Communion. Taking part in the Pastoral Institution for Couples on Second Marital Union favors the interaction and social and religious conviviality of the couples in the Church and out of it and also allows them to overcome the discrimination they used to feel. The Pastoral Institution also allows the members of the Catholic church to have greater awareness about the meaning of welcoming these couples and also about their rights.

Vulnerabilidade de gênero e mulheres vivendo com HIV e Aids: repercussões para a saúde / Gender vulnerability and women living with HIV and AIDS: implications for health

Marcia de Lima 14 September 2012 (has links)
This work studied the experience of women living with HIV and AIDS also live with situations of violence by their intimate partner and the implications of these intersections for their health care. We took as reference the concept of vulnerability already formulated to AIDS and adapted for gender issues, allowing explore it in situations of domestic violence against women. We started from the assumption that the contexts of HIV / AIDS can lead to situations of domestic violence involving HIV positive women and that the representations of love, the ideal of marital and family can influence on health care of these women. We made 20 in-depth interviews with women living with HIV / AIDS, followed on STD / AIDS reference centers of the Municipality of São Paulo, using living history method. We found in the narratives several contexts of the so called gender vulnerability occurred in childhood, adolescence and adulthood, reinforcing hegemonic gender patterns over the different life cycles of these women. The study shows that the fact of the diagnosis disclosure to be made during an illness is the element that triggers fear and suffering in relation to the reaction of the partners and worries with their children. The time of HIV diagnosis is not only the moment of contact with the disease, but also the time to uncover or recognize situations of violence. It is through conceptions and contexts of life that women identify how to locate themselves in the struggle against HIV and violence. Health care was addressed as much as caring for oneself as well in relation with the health services. This approach showed the great concern about the difficulties perceived by these women in order to keep the condition of traditional caregivers within the references of hegemonic social pattern of gender, either about their illnesses and future life expectations either about children. Such concerns arise as a justification for maintaining the family when there is coexistence with a violent partner. Although present, it was observed that violence is not an issue discussed in health care of women living with HIV and AIDS in specialized health services. The vulnerability of gender of these women is distinguished by an emphasis on maternal condition which gives meaning to their lives, illness and care.

[en] THE WOMEN`S MONEY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR CONTEMPORARY MARRIAGE: A FEMALE POINT OF VIEW / [pt] O DINHEIRO DA MULHER E SUAS IMPLICAÇÕES NO CASAMENTO CONTEMPORÂNEO: UMA VISÃO FEMININA

SUZANA CARVALHO MAIA VASCONCELOS RODRIGUES 02 July 2008 (has links)
[en] The inserction of the middle and upper class woman into the labor market, her search for professional realization and financial independency definitely transformed the traditional work division among couples. The woman`s money in the contemporary marriage is an essential mark that led to changes in the way couples live together since the half of the 20th century. And that`s why an analysis of the financial decision making process in couples is so important to give us information about the power relations, differences and individual characteristics of regular wife and husband. Specially in a just-married couple, objective of our research, where the development and negotiation of these behaviors begins, taking into account each side`s familiar values. To understand the consequence of these changes in the husband/wife relation is key to understand marriage itself. And that subject lacks of studies here in Brazil. This research aims to understand these woman`s money impact in the contemporary marriage. How the couple defines its rules, how they are accepted and questioned upon. The method used consisted of an interview of twelve women that had recently got into living together with someone (from 6 months to 3 years), not necessarily through marriage. To be eligible for the interview both husband and wife had to be on their first marriage, both working, no kids and be part of the middle class or above. Their speeches revealed that women see the remunerated work a way of acquiring autonomy in their decisions and a possibility to develop personal hobbies. Besides that, the majority of the interviewed women says that she is organized with their own money, being, most of the times, her who controls and plans the finances of the couple. In fact, their autonomy is more linked to assume its planning than to simply earn it. That was noticed, since only two of the interviewed women delegate to their husbands the management of their money, what causes them to lose priority on how to decide the way money is going to be spent.

DINÂMICA DEMOGRÁFICA DO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTA MARIA/RS: O ESTUDO ACERCA DAS RELAÇÕES DE CONJUGALIDADE ATRAVÉS DOS CONTEXTOS DO PATRIARCADO E DO ESPAÇO PARADOXAL / DEMOGRAPHIC DYNAMICS OF THE CITY OF SANTA MARIA/RS: A STUDY ABOUT THE CONJUGAL RELATIONS/RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH THE CONTEXTS OF PATRIARCHATE AND PARADOXICAL SPACE

Caetano, Geani Nene 23 September 2013 (has links)
This dissertation aims to understand the demographic dynamics of the city of Santa Maria/RS through the focus on gender and conjugal relations. Thus, it intended to, as a main objective, understand the gender relations/relationships through the patriarchate and paradoxical space contexts, which are concepts of primal importance for Feminist Geography and Gender Studies. The research has the following specific objectives: a) to spatialize the analysis of demographic dynamics in Santa Maria/RS, focusing on the different values of the demographic data (finance, literacy, household heads, the proportion of population by sex gender), according to the 2010 census; b) to achieve interpretations for the correlations between census data on the quality and perception of women which live in the spatial area obtained in the goal "a" c) to interpret the population dynamics through the conjugal relations/relationships, considering the social conditions of women at Agroindustrial Street, spatial area of study. Methodologically, the research steps are grounded on interpretations offered by interviews with women that live in that neighborhood, in order to express their experiences. [en] PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS: THE EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON CHILDREN / [pt] VIOLÊNCIA PSICOLÓGICA CONTRA CRIANÇAS E ADOLESCENTES: REPERCUSSÕES DA VIOLÊNCIA CONJUGAL SOBRE OS FILHOS

NAIR CRISTINA BARRETTO BOUDET FERNANDES 19 July 2016 (has links)
[en] The following research aims to discuss repercussions of domestic violence as well as psychological violence against children and adolescents, considering offspring exposure to family dynamics of frequent violence between parents. To do this, a qualitative study was conducted by analyzing four cases in a women s domestic violence treatment unit in Rio de Janeiro. The results demonstrate the continued segmentation of the service network, compromising the complexity of a family approach and making it difficult to guarantee the concurrent and integrated human rights of women domestic violence victims and their children on the impact of these conflicts as possible expressions of psychological violence.

Bernier, Estelle 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the effects of the sponsorship process on marital dynamics and life courses. Based on a qualitative and interdisciplinary research approach, 20 participants, 7 men and 13 women, who had a sponsorship experience as a sponsor or a sponsored spouse, were interviewed. In this thesis, we explore the effects on conjugal dynamics in two key moments: 1) from the beginning of the sponsorship application process to obtaining the permanent residence visa, and 2) during the sponsorship undertaking of three years. We also document the experiences of a marital separation that occurs during the sponsorship undertaking. The vertical and cross-sectional analysis method used in this thesis made it possible for us to report on the diversity of pathways by articulating the experience of the sponsorship process, in particular with migration trajectory, marital composition, gender and ethnicity. If, at first glance, it seemed obvious that sponsorship creates inequality in couples by positioning the sponsored person under the financial responsibility of his or her sponsor, it turned out that the analysis of conjugal dynamics was more complex. Finally, in the light of the results of the study, we propose a typology of typical pathways that reflects both the diversity of pathways and levels of influence that the sponsorship process can produce on conjugal dynamics.

[pt] ESCOLHA AMOROSA NA CONJUGALIDADE CONTEMPORÂNEA: O ENCONTRO DE DUAS SUBJETIVIDADES / [en] LOVE CHOICE IN CONTEMPORARY CONJUGALITY: THE MEETING OF TWO SUBJECTIVITIES

ANA CLAUDIA DE JESUS VASCONCELOS 05 December 2019 (has links)
[en] The present dissertation aimed to investigate the motivations involved in the process of love choice in contemporary conjugality. It is being presented in the form of two articles. In the first one, we analyzed how the dimensions of individuality and conjugality affect marital satisfaction; in the second, the results concerning the repercussions of the family of origin in the choice of the spouse and in the conjugal interaction were discussed. A qualitative research was carried out, in which four men and four women, with ages between 22 and 49, married or in a stable union, for at least two years, without children, were interviewed. To analyze the data the content analysis method was used in its categorial aspect, as proposed by Bardin (2011). From the evaluation of the material two categories of analysis emerged: love choice and marital satisfaction. It was found out that the results point to the conjugality of the parents as a model for the marriage of the offsprings. The study also observes that the appreciation of individual freedom, the experience of conjugal intimacy and the flexibility to deal with individual and conjugal dimensions are promoters of conjugal satisfaction.

First-time parenting couples' stress associated with at-risk pregnancy and antenatal hospitalization

Polomeno, Viola 12 1900 (has links)
Thèse numérisée par la Direction des bibliothèques de l’Université de Montréal / The goals of this study were: (1) to determine the contribution of the stressors (atrisk pregnancy and antenatal hospitalization), the resources (conjugal adjustment and satisfaction from others) and the perception of the stressors (primary stress appraisal: threat, challenge, centrality; and secondary stress appraisal: control-self, control-others, incontroUable) to first-time parenting couples' global stress associated with at-risk pregnancy and antenatal hospitalization, and (2) to assess congruence between the partners' perceptions of stress in terms of similarities. Three types of similarities are considered, produced from combinations of self-perceptions (a person's direct perception) and metaperceptions (a person's perception of another person): actual similarity, perceived similarity and understanding. The non-probabilistic sample of 109 couples was recruited fi'om 12 perinatal units in the Montreal region. The couples completed four questionnah-es: The Personal and Pregnancy Information Guide, the Dyadic Adjustment Scale, the Support Behaviors Inventory, and the Stress Appraisal Measure. Using Boss' model (1988) The Contextual Model of Family Stress to study the first research goal, 52% of the variance regarding the women's global stress was explained by primary stress appraisal (threat, challenge, centrality), while 60% of the variance regarding the men's global stress was explained by the stressors (gestation, prenatal classes, education) and primary stress appraisal (threat, centrality). For the couples' models, 33% of their global stress at the level of actual similarity was explained by prunary stress appraisal (threat, centrality), while at the level of perceived similarity, 32% of the explained variance was due to primary stress appraisal (threat, centrality) and secondary stress appraisal (controlself, control-others). At the level of understanding, 32% of the explained variance is attributed to the resources (dyadic cohesion) and primary stress appraisal (threat, centrality). Further analyses were conducted on couples' perceptions since primary stress appraisal was found to be a significant predictor of thek global stress (second research goal). In order to attain this, five hypotheses were tested: HI: There is a significant difference in the perceived similarity of global stress appraisal between women and men (confirmed); H2: There is a significant difference in understanding of global stress appraisal between women and men (confirmed); H3: There is congruence between women's and men's perceived smiilarity and actual similarity for global stress appraisal (partially confirmed); H4: There is congruence between women's and men's understanding and actual smiilarity for global stress appraisal (partially confirmed); and, H5: There is congruence between women's and men's understanding and women's and men's perceived smiilarity for global stress appraisal (partially confirmed). Despite the couples' moderate stress appraisal, women perceive at-risk pregnancy and antenatal hospitaUzation as a threat, and their global perception of stress is significantly higher than that of the men. Men perceive the same stressors as a challenge and being in control of the situation. The couples are congruent in actual similarity except for the means of challenge and self-control. Regarding perceived similarity, there are no significant differences for the women whereas for the men, there are significant discrepancies for the means of threat and global stress. For women's understanding, there are significant discrepancies between the means of for threat and global stress, while for the men, there are no significant differences. Women are more stressed by at-risk pregnancy and antenatal hospitalization than the men, resulting in a greater lack of congruence between the different sunilarities. They are less available for the conjugal relationship, while the men are more understanding and more available to devote themselves to the relationship: the men's optimism appears to reduce the women's stress with an impact on the relationship. Regarding couples' stress, there is a gradual shift in perceiving the strcssors as threatening to perceiving them as important for their well-being. Also, control and the conjugal relationship become more unportant at the levels of perceived similarity and understanding respectively. In conclusion, women and men do not perceive the stressors in the same way, and that nurses and other health care professionals should consider both partners' perceptions as weU as that of the couple's in their global evaluation of stress during their interventions. Nurses' greater challenge is to help a couple to be 'a couple' in the hospital setting in order to help them protect their love and intimacy.

Gonçalvès, Marie 08 1900 (has links)
Currently, intimate partner violence remains a serious and complex social phenomenon within our contemporary societies. In Canada, the rate of violence perpetrated by an intimate partner has been steadily increasing for several years and the recent pandemic of COVID-19 which occurred in 2020 has aggravated episodes of tension within homes, due to restrictive health measures among others. More than ever, the protection of victims of intimate partner violence becomes critical, and that is why it is essential that all available prevention measures must be implemented for this common purpose. This thesis therefore proposes to explore the issues relating to the implantation of anti-reconciliation bracelets (BAR) as a means of preventing spousal homicides in Quebec. Based on semi-structured interviews, the sample is made up of a total of 14 participants, including 6 from police organizations, 3 from organizations involved in the management of offenders, 3 from organizations involved in victim assistance missions and 2 are from organizations associated with the defense of human rights. The analysis of the data collected highlights four types of issues relating to the implementation of BAR in the context of intimate partner violence in Quebec, namely technological, legal, ethical and social issues. These will have to be the subject of an in-depth analysis by the decision-makers in the event of the establishment of the BAR in Quebec. That said, the BAR is an innovative and promising tertiary prevention tool for spousal homicides and has great potential for improving the quality of life of victims.
