En bortglömd värld av blommor : Märta Rudbecks konstnärskap under tidigt 1900-tal / A Forgotten World of Flowers : The Artistry of Märta Rudbeck in the Early 1900’s

Eliasson, Matilda January 2020 (has links)
This thesis rediscovers the Swedish painter Märta Rudbeck (1882–1933). During her lifetime she was an esteemed composer of flower still lifes and portraits. Her forgotten heritage follows those of other female artists, whose legacies are long forgotten. By retracing her life through archives and newspaper articles, a picture of her upbringing, education, career and network affiliations emerges. By using the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieus field theory, the aim of the thesis is to analyse the social, educational, cultural and economic aspects that affected Märta Rudbeck’s life, and how this was manifested in her art. The strategies Märta Rudbeck encompassed, are highlighted in the analysis. She chose to exhibit her work with a variety of associations and also took commissions for portraits and copies of older works of art. The analysis also reveals how she followed in her mother’s footsteps and embraced female networks to further her career. Furthermore, the thesis uncovers how her heritage, social class and upbringing most likely influenced her choice of genre, which in turn has prevented her from staying relevant since her untimely death in the early 1930’s. The thesis finally discloses how Märta Rudbeck’s artistry is once again made relevant, through a major museum acquisition as well as an exhibition at one of the greater art institutions in Sweden.

Použití symbolů v minojské a mykénské ikonografii / The Use of Symbols in Minoan and Mycenaean Iconography

Matoušková, Monika January 2020 (has links)
This Master thesis deals with symbolic objects appearing in the Bronze Age Aegean art in the 3rd and especially the 2nd millennium BCE. Recurrent types of scenes and motifs speak for the fact that there must have existed a complex iconographic system of Minoan and Mycenaean art. An analytical method aiming at single elements of composite scenes may bring us closer to better understanding of this system and to its more objective interpretation. The study, therefore, focuses on the iconography of each individual symbol and also discusses its possible parallels in art of the neighbouring Bronze Age cultures. Nonetheless, the Aegean iconographic system was not strictly codified throughout the entire Bronze Age and some of the themes evolved or were specific only for certain eras. For that reason, the studied material is treated in a diachronic approach so as to stress the iconographic evolution of the symbols' use. The aim is to provide a profound analysis of the rules applied to the symbols in Minoan and Mycenaean art, to investigate their possible origins, and finally to examine their mutual interconnections.

Inculturation and consecrated life in the Catholic church: the Companions of St Angela as a case study

Modise, Mary 30 November 2003 (has links)
Consecrated life or religious life as it is sometimes called within the Catholic Church is almost as old as Christianity. All baptised persons are consecrated persons by virtue of their baptism, but the consecrated life to which some people feel called, is a special and fruitful deepening of the consecration received in baptism and confirmation.. This dissertation explores Christian spirituality as it is manifested in consecrated life with relation to inculturation and religious life. The scope has been limited to a study of one congregation, the Companions of St Angela as a case study. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Christian Spirituality)

A vision for Franciscan life : an examination of the Third Order rule

Seiler, Martina Gertrud Anneliese 06 1900 (has links)
The dissertation is a critical reflection on the relevance of Franciscan spirituality over eight centuries with special focus on the Third Order Regular. This spirituality is rooted in the life and writings of St Francis and St Clare of Assisi and their experience of the kenotic Christ. The Franciscan charism prevails in the world today as a living response to God’s transforming love which is expressed in a ministry of loving service and solidarity with the poor and marginalised – re-enacting Francis’ radical conversion when he embraced the leper. The Third Order Regular, inspired by Vatican II which called for a return to the charism of religious founders, returned to its roots with the revised Rule of 1982 based on the writings of Francis and Clare and grounded in Sacred Scripture. The Rule’s vision corresponds with the 1996 document Vita Consecrata on consecrated life and its mission to be prophetic witnesses to Christ today. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M. Folkbildningsforskning som fält : från framväxt till konsolidering / Liberal Adult Education Research as a Field : from Emergence to Consolidation

Lundin, Anna January 2008 (has links)
This thesis is treating how Swedish liberal adult education research (folkbildningsforskning) has emerged and consolidated. The concepts of doxa, consecration, capital and field of Pierre Bourdieu are used to reconstruct liberal adult education research as a social field. The empirical material consists of texts and documents, structured chronologically between the years of 1954-2007. Central questions are: In which way can liberal adult education research be reconstructed as a field? How does it emerge? Which are the central values (doxa) that hold the field together and going, and where are the boundaries of the field? Who are the central agents of the field? How do they achieve recognition, and on which grounds? Which are the arenas that work as concecrating instances? The study indicates that the area establishes common concepts and references. A gradual expansion occurs. This involves increased opportunities, but also involves competition. Four different phases can be reconstructed as central: the emergence (1954-1979), the expansion (1980-1989), the institutionalisation (1990-1999) and the consolidation (2000-2007). Research summaries as well as organizations of special interests are contributing to the glow of the area. A number of strong positions are established as are a number of pretenders. These relate, in different ways, to the area and to broader perspectives and settings. The area is successfully handling and employing different kinds of challenges and opportunities. This is considered a sign of relative strength of the reconstructed field of liberal adult education research.

Vliv literárních cen na mediální obraz oceněných knih (2012) / Impact of literary prizes awarded to the media image of books

Linhart, Jiří January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis researches the impact of a literary prize on the media image of the awarded book in 2012. More precisely I pursue these awards and winning titles: Jaroslav Seifert Prize (Vladimír Binar: Číňanova pěna), Jiří Orten Award (Vratislav Maňák: Šaty z igelitu), Josef Škvorecký Award (Kateřina Tučková: Žítkovské bohyně), Magnesia Litera - The Book of the Year (Michal Ajvaz: Lucemburská zahrada). First I analyse the change of the quantity (the number of references and the share within the text), then I focus on the modification of the journalistic assessment of the title (on the scale positive - neutral - negative). In first case I use a quantitative analysis of media content, in the second case I use a comparative semiotic analysis. My sample are these Czech periodicals, in alphabetical order: A2, Aktuálně.cz, Hospodářské noviny, Host, iDnes.cz, Lidové noviny, Literární noviny, Reflex, Respekt, Tvar. The main output is a discovery, how the Czech print and online written media reflect the results of the literary prizes, also I (try to) determine the media power of each award.

"...achieved nothing worthy of memory" : Coinage and authority in the Roman empire c. AD 260-295

Hedlund, Ragnar January 2008 (has links)
<p>This study examines how the Roman emperors <i>c</i>. AD. 260–295 attempt at maintaining their power-bases through legitimation of their claims to power, with reference to various potentially powerful groups of society, such as the military, the inhabitants of the provinces and the senate in Rome. The purpose has been to discern the development of ‘Roman imperial ideology’ in an age which has frequently been referred to as an ‘age of military anarchy.’ Focus is on how claims to power could be expressed through visual media. Of such media, mainly the coins struck for the emperors <i>c</i>. AD 260-295 have been studied. A close investigation has been made of the iconography of these coins. Furthermore, the ways in which coin-images are modified and combined with various legends are studied. An additional purpose of this investigation has been to provide a comment on the general potential of conveying visual imagery and messages on objects such as coins and medallions. </p><p>The study argues that novel, intricate and multi-layered images were created on the coins struck for the emperors <i>c</i>. AD 260-295. Furthermore, it is suggested that these coin-images were created to assume the function of larger-scale expressions of imperial authority, such as triumphal arches and imperial statues. This adaption of coinage was made because there was a need for intensified communication of imperial authority. This need arose due to the incessant warfare of the age, and a process of regionalization of the empire, which was connected to this warfare. The conclusion is that these coins provide an illustration of the development of the Roman empire in the second half of the third century. This was a development by which the city of Rome lost its importance in favour of regional capitals, and ultimately in favour of Constantinople.</p>

Måltext i Midgård : Ohlmarks Härskarringen och översättandets normer

Dahlander, Gustav January 2013 (has links)
This study considers Härskarringen (1959–61), a Swedish translation of J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings (1954–55), within the framework of translation studies and the description of norms within different fields of translation. As the work’s position as a translation has been questioned by a number of critics, the aim of the study is to identify features of the text which can be associated with this critique. The methodology employed by the study aims to separate departures in the target text from the source text within fields such as semantics and style. The departures are then ordered on the basis of linguistic form. The study suggests that the translation contains a number of features, and proposes possible explanations for these, based on the result of the study in relation to these points of departure as well as the circumstances in the context of the creation of the translation. The method used is partly based on a model developed by Rune Ingo (1991), and the results are analyzed by means of key concepts from Yvonne Lindqvist (2002). The study concludes that Härskarringen should be considered a work done mainly in accordance with an acceptable translation strategy, and thereby has characteristics of a low prestige translation. The study further considers that the critics of the translation hold, seemingly, that The Lord of the Rings should be translated as high prestige literature, and that they have reacted against the translation consequently. The study suggests that the reason for the questioning of Härskarringen’s position as a translation seems to be that the work has not been translated in accordance with the norms of the literary field to where it is today attributed. The critique can partly be viewed as a result of a raised status of The Lord of the Rings and J. R. R. Tolkien, and thus of the mobility of a work within the literary system.
