Conception organisationnelle : pour des interventions capacitantes. / The design of organizations : towards enabling interventions

Arnoud, Justine 06 December 2013 (has links)
This thesis in ergonomics takes its place in organization studies. New forms of organization, along with the increasing importance of service activities, raise new issues that invite ergonomics to focus on the object of “the organization” and exchange knowledge with management science. An instrumental vision of this object is gradually emerging, making it possible to break away from classical approaches and to focus on the articulation between the organizational structure and mechanisms of appropriation. Ergonomics then emerges as a legitimate contributor to intervene on this object. Its goals and historical contribution to design knowledge both facilitate its participation to transforming organizations. The thesis defended here is that organizations should be designed or redesigned from the point of view of development. The view of development used here is borrowed from work with an economic focus, and relates more specifically to a capability-based approach. This approach focuses on what each individual is truly able to do. This implies a favorable, “enabling” environment that must guide the action of ergonomists. By pursuing this goal, ergonomists develop strategies of intervention that can also bear the premises of an enabling organization – an organization that supports debates, the construction of activity, and the work of organization.Following this approach, our research was carried out during the implementation of a Shared Services Center in a large industrial group. A methodology for research and experimentation was defined based on the possibilities afforded by the context. This methodology includes three stages. The first stage analyzes the existing organization, identifies the issues that are not resolved by the organization, and characterizes the determinants of the contradictions which activity must confront. It highlights the fact that the organizational structure, designed by others, was imposed to its agents. Overall, the opportunities for choice, the scope of action, and the effective possibilities to carry out high-quality work diminish compared with the situation before the change. The second stage focuses on the ways in which operators attempt to redesign the organization in use. We then analyze the ways in which these attempts are discussed, as well as their costs and effects on the organizational structure. The emerging picture is that operators attempt to transform resources into capabilities, i.e. into genuine possibilities for producing work that is of the highest possible quality. To achieve this, the organization of work is altered; the procedures are questioned and circumvented: the “customer” is gradually transformed into a partner of the activity, but in a constrained, set environment. The third stage aims, based on the practices and wishes of the agents, to test a methodology for change in situ: the constructive co-analysis of work practices. This methodology aims to experiment an enabling organization and establish an enabling environment, supporting the deployment of activity and the success of operators. Visits are organized in order to invite each operator to observe the activity of his/her partner. The activity in the “here and now” constitutes an object of dialog, supporting a reflective practice on the joint collective activity and the transformation of rules and practices. Thus, the research-experimentation we have carried out has led to new organizational solutions and to setting the organization in motion. From there, development emerges as a goal and as a means for the action we have led. A diagnostic analysis allows us to identify what is allowing and hindering this development. The ergonomic action is then constructed so as to support this development throughout the course of and following this action. The thesis therefore takes its place within the project of constructive ergonomics, and the results obtained are discussed in the light of this project.

Expanding our Understanding of Constructive Voice: Accounting for Voice Function and Scope

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: Constructive voice, the sharing of ideas or concerns that improve organizational functioning, is an important workplace behavior. Recent narrative reviews of constructive voice have highlighted the importance of accounting for different types of voice. Initial efforts to explain the type of constructive voice have focused on voice function, and distinguished constructive voice as promotive or prohibitive in nature. Yet, research findings regarding relationships between promotive and prohibitive voice and antecedents of constructive voice reveal inconsistencies that suggest that our theoretical understanding is incomplete. In this dissertation, I argue that in addition to distinguishing constructive voice as to its function (i.e., promotive voice and prohibitive voice), it is also important to distinguish constructive voice as to its scope (i.e., the number of different issues expressed by employees). By accounting for the function and scope of voice, I develop four specific types of constructive voice (i.e., championing, initiating, alarming, and patrolling) and conduct two studies wherein I establish construct validity and test differences in antecedent and outcome relationships with the specific types of voice. I first focus on scale development: generating items and assessing content validity. In Study 1, I test the factor structure of championing, initiating, alarming, and patrolling, and the nomological network of the measures. My second study is a field study of 251 employees in an insurance company and manufacturing facility. In Study 2 I test the criterion-related validity of the measures and explore the implications of voice scope. The research reported in my dissertation contributes to our understanding of constructive voice, and following from this, facilitates further theoretical and practical advances as to when employees who voice may be heard and when they may be tuned out. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Business Administration 2018

Cadeia produtiva do bambu como material construtivo e sua aplicação: estudos de caso no estado de São Paulo / Productive chain of bamboo as constructive material and its application: Case study in the State of São Paulo

Carlos Eduardo Radaik 28 May 2018 (has links)
The focus of this research is the study of the bamboo productive chain as constructive material, investigating agents, activities and its processes. The architecture of the future needs new models and constructive materials to enable the sustainable development of the planet. The actual housing demand in Brazil and in the world, require from the civil construction sector a larger consumption of raw material and therefore producing a larger emission of CO2 and energy consumption. New materials that demand a smaller amount of energy and its production and a smaller residual generator are beginning to occupy a prominent position in the productive chain of the civil construction. In this context, the bamboo in natura shape is included in the construction materials of the future, because its physical-mechanical component, also environmental, economic and social component that could contribute in a positive manner. Architects and constructors, in Brazil and in other parts of the world, have considerably increased the use of bamboo; using it in residences, warehouses and even in large structures, although there is a widespread ignorance about its use in the civil construction. This gap is even larger when one seeks to understand its productive chain. The comprehension of its agents, processes and the use of non-conventional materials, such as bamboo, for a project conception is fundamental for the student and the professional development, whether an engineer or architect. The fieldwork, along with the theoretical referential studied, allowed the comprehension of the bamboo productive chain as a constructive material, besides to not follow the established standard in the literature, mainly with the relationship between agents and its processes involved directly in the transformation of the raw material, it presents in a unorganized and frail form, with a concentration of processes within few agents, resulting in little efficiency and hindering its development.

Olika läroböcker men samma förutsättningar? / Different Textbooks but the Same Prerequisites?

Larshagen, My, Strandell, Ida January 2023 (has links)

A Population Dynamics Inspired Constructive Algorithm for Growing Feedforward Neural Network Architectures

Ross, Matthew 28 November 2023 (has links)
The generalization ability of artificial neural networks (ANN) is highly dependent on their architectures and can be critical to solving a given problem. The current best practice uses fixed architectures determined via a trial-and-error approach. This process can be both computationally and temporally cumbersome and does not guarantee that an optimal topology will even be found. Replacing the user’s role in designing topologies with methods that enable a system to manage its own growth can endow systems with adaptable learning. Constructive algorithms offer the possibility of compact architectures as an alternative to the trial-and-error approach. This class of algorithms grows a network’s topology by incrementally adding units during learning to match task complexity. However, the decision of when to add new units in constructive algorithms heavily depends on user-defined a priori hyperparameters, which can be task-specific. Contrary to having a user fine-tune hyperparameters that govern growth, the intrinsic population dynamics of an ANN could be used to self-govern the growing process. Theoretically, an ANN or each layer comprising the network can be viewed as a set of populations. From this perspective, a hidden layer can be considered the environment in which hidden units exist. In this work, we propose a novel, more self-governed growing algorithm inspired by population dynamics for determining near-optimal topologies of feedforward ANNs. This allows the inclusion of a carrying capacity, the maximum population of hidden units that can be sustained in a hidden layer. Including this constraint in combination with population dynamics provides a built-in mechanism for a dynamic growth rate. The proposed approach is used in parallel with direct performance feedback from the network to modulate the growth rate of the hidden layer, allowing the network to converge to smaller topologies based on the task's demands. More self-governed approaches reduce the number of finely-tuned hyperparameters required to decide when to grow and put more control of the network’s structure and representational capacities in the algorithms themselves, facilitating the emergence of inherent intelligent behaviour. Chapter one introduces a dynamic, more self-governed growing algorithm inspired by population dynamics. Results show that compared to using fixed rules for determining hidden layer sizes; dynamic growth leads to smaller topologies than predicted while still being capable of solving the task. In chapter two, we investigate the algorithm's inherent properties to validate the more self-governed aspect. The results depict that the model’s hyperparameters require less fine-tuning by the user and adhere more toward self-governance. Finally, in chapter three, we investigate the effects of growing hidden layers individually in a sequential fashion or simultaneously in a parallel fashion multilayer context. A modified version of the growing algorithm capable of growing parallel is proposed. Growing hidden layers in parallel resulted in comparable or higher performances than sequential approaches. The growing algorithm presented here offers more self-governed growth, which provides an effective general solution automatically tailored to the task.

Anti-Specker Properties in Constructive Reverse Mathematics

Dent, James Edgar January 2013 (has links)
Constructive reverse mathematics is a programme in which non- and semi-constructive principles are classified in accordance with which other principles they imply or are implied by, relative to the framework of Bishop-style constructive mathematics. One such principle that has come under focus in recent years is an antithesis of Specker's theorem (that theorem being a characteristic result of Russian recursive mathematics): this so-called anti-Specker property is intuitionistically valid, and of considerable utility in proving results of real and complex analysis. We introduce several new weakenings of the anti-Specker property and explore their role in constructive reverse mathematics, identifying implication relationships that they stand in to other notable principles. These include, but are not limited to: variations upon Brouwer's fan theorem, certain compactness properties, and so-called zero-stability properties. We also give similar classification results for principles arising directly from Specker's theorem itself, and present new, direct proofs of related fan-theoretic results. We investigate how anti-Specker properties, alongside power-series-based arguments, enable us to recover information about the structure of holomorphic functions: in particular, they allow us to streamline a sequence of maximum-modulus theorems.

Essai sur un paradigme d'alliance constructive entre droit et médecine : L'accès du médecin à la connaissance juridique / A paradigm of constructive alliance between law and medicine (Essay) : Physician’s access to legal knowledge (Essay)

Boughriet, Nora 07 March 2013 (has links)
The emergence of discourses on the judicialization and legalization of medical matters is evidence of the growing importance of law, understood as a constraint by the doctor. First, though a legal framework is indeed necessary for medical activity, the proliferation of legal rules is deemed akin to downright interference. Then, though applying the principle of responsibility to medicine is indisputable, practitioners see the trial as a sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. We have established that resorting to alternative dispute resolution and the use of pedagogical methods are all possible ways of healing. And yet, these remain insufficient, because they do not make it possible to depart definitely from a constraining vision of law. In fact, doctors’ ignorance in this matter does not enable them to approach law from an angle other than coercive. Law is only a small portion of medical initial and continuing training, even though it has become essential in medical practice. To solve this contradiction, we are committed to seek a paradigm based on the constructive alliance between law and medicine. We have defined a form of access to legal knowledge by the medical community. The physician must receive training that is appropriate to his/her legal practice. Creating a Pole clustering medicine and law should facilitate doctors’ access to law, via making teaching means available to them. Henceforth, law will be regarded as one more resource supporting the physician's action.

Von der Kunst des Prüfens - Assessment literacy

Wollersheim, Heinz-Werner, Pengel, Norbert 02 November 2016 (has links) (PDF)
