The historic practice of foot-washing as a sacrament/al and a consideration of foot-washing in contemporary Christian contexts

Park, Sungguk 26 January 2018 (has links)
This thesis was written with two purposes: first, to consider the practice of foot-washing as a sacrament/al; and, second, to apply what was learned in order to appropriate the practice of foot-washing for contemporary worship services. Several methodologies advanced the work. A theological approach enabled a comparison of the definitions of “sacrament,” “sacramental,” and “sacramentality,” which led to a demonstration of foot-washing as a “sacramental” insofar as it has the capacity to reveal the divine and possibly to be a means of grace. Historical and socio-contextual approaches undergirded the examination of three Christian traditions that regarded foot-washing as a sacrament or sacramental: the Johannine community of John 13; Ambrose of Milan’s community and its post-baptismal practice; and the Mennonites. With the tools of liturgical analysis, examination was made of foot-washing as it appears in liturgical texts for several current Christian denominations in the United States and Korea. The themes inherent in these newer uses of foot-washing were compared with those of the three historical Christian traditions. The research disclosed that, in terms of contemporary usage, foot-washing is primarily located in rites for Maundy Thursday, while marginalized or absent in other worship contexts. This limitation called for the development of a “sacramental” foot-washing rite for ordinary worship services. The proposed foot-washing rite not only provides an opportunity to meditate on Jesus’ death and sacrificial love in connection with the Triduum, but also accentuates themes such as Jesus’ humility, God’s reconciliation with humanity, forgiveness of sin, and the consolidation of the church community.

Música contemporânea na iniciação coletiva ao violoncelo: Uma pesquisa-ação com jogos de improvisação em três instituições de ensino no estado de São Paulo / Contemporary music in the collective initiation to the cello: an action research with improvisation games in three educational institutions in the state of São Paulo.

Marta Macedo Brietzke 12 December 2018 (has links)
This dissertation is a study on the use of improvisation games in group cello lessons. The goal of this research, conducted during the Graduate Music Program at São Paulo University, was to investigate the implementation of improvisation games, already applied in other groups of students, in the collective initiation to the cello, with the purpose of promoting the approximation of students with the poetics of contemporary music. The methodological procedure listed for this work was the research-action, applied in three educational institutions of the state of São Paulo: Instituto Baccarelli, Projeto Guri and Instituto Fukuda. Participant observation, field diary, the application of a questionnaire to twenty-for students and semistructured interviews with the for teachers who participated in the activities, notes written by the students after the activities and the video recording of some the activities were used as instruments and techniques of data collection. The analysis of the data was structured based on the students\' and the participating teachers\' considerations and this were approached in relation to the consulted bibliographical references and to the observation of the activities reported in the field diary, with the support of video recordings. After analysing the data, it was possible to notice that in the implementation of the games, based on the propositions of Delalande (2001), Gainza (2009), Brito (2003, 2011), Freixedas (2015) e Cruz (2017), most of the students understood most the proposals of the activities such a game and music creation. Most of the students reported that felt comfortable playing improvisational games, recognizing the construction of musical narratives in the activities, the possibility of greater integration with their classmates, the understanding of the processes of music creation and the approach with poetics of contemporary music. The teachers involved highlighted the development of the creativity and group teaching provided by the activities, emphasizing, however, the need to contextualize the proposals within a traditional teaching model. This work indicates possible developments in the area of music education, being configured as a possibility for the application of improvisation games in the group teaching, as well as enabling its implementation in the teaching and learning of other strings instruments, besides providing support for setting up similar proposals aimed at the other levels of celli learning.

The yoga work in contemporary dance class. Anthropological analysis of the bodily experience.

Cazemajou, Anne 29 November 2010 (has links)
This research focuses on the work of yoga, as taught to amateur adult pupils in the context of the contemporary dance teaching of Toni D’Amelio, at the Peter Goss school in Paris. It is the nature of this corporeal experience as lived by the pupils, as well as the modes of its construction, which form the subject of this analysis. Grounded in an anthropological approach, this analysis is characterized by the use of the explicitation interview to investigate the subjective experience of the pupils. The central role of the teacher’s instructions emerged from the pupils’ own words, as well as the way this yoga work is articulated around a scholarly “apparatus”, which crystallizes for the pupils the idea of an adequate knowledge. However, this “apparatus” proved insufficient to explain the nature of the corporeal experience it produces. The study thus underscores the way this “apparatus” is brought into play and the way the instructions function as triggers for action and perception. Finally, this analysis demonstrates how the speech act of the teacher, without either the pupils’ or her own knowledge, creates a real enchantment of the “apparatus”.

L’esthétique populaire de l’habitat à Tunis / Popular aesthetics of urban dwellings in Tunis

Khaldi, Leila 09 November 2018 (has links)
The popular construction of dwellings and their appearance in particular are discredited by the dominant groups in society. Considered as illegitimate as it is produced on the margins of official and architectural production processes, the current vernacular aesthetic of popular dwellings however constitutes a major part of the Tunisian urban landscape. This work is a modest contribution to the symbolic rehabilitation of this production and its aesthetics in particular. The façades as they appear to bystanders from the public space has led me, as an architect, to initially question how the inhabitant builders proceed to create an aesthetic on the facade of their dwelling, while seeking to inquire about the existence or not of an awareness of the image thus returned to the urban space. The numerous consultations with our interlocutors during the field surveys and the analysis of the collected data gradually convinced us that the methods of aesthetic fabrication by the inhabitant were based less on formal than practical considerations, as well as a growing awareness of the image of the dwelling as it is sent back to the public space.

L'oeuvre-enveloppe. The Enveloppe-artwork : Essay on the becoming-interface of the artwork in sculpture and fiber arts

Limonne, Charlotte 11 June 2018 (has links)
This thesis will approach contemporary creation – with a focus on sculpture and fiber arts from the ‘60s onwards – through the French concept of the enveloppe. This concept is the red thread that binds together the material aspect of an artistic practice together with the rhetorical thinking behind it. Thus, this text is intertwined with images from the author’s personal practice, echoing the numerous other artist’s works that we be analysed as this reflexion develops. In a first part, we will aim at defining the characteristics of an enveloppe together with the mechanisms of its manifestation. For that purpose, we intend to create a typology of the various forms an enveloppe takes in contemporary arts. We will suggest three main to categorise these types: the packaging, the cloth and the skin. Then, leaving behind the substantive, we will attach ourselves to the adjective ‘enveloping’ and the verb ‘to envelop’, allowing us to approach the envelope not only as a still object, but also as a versatile, evolving material, or as a movement of repeated enrolment as used in some artists’ practice. The concept of enveloppe therefore opens up to become a starting point for the creative process. Consequently, the idea of an ‘enveloppe-artwork’ not only allows us to consider the physical artwork as a finished and isolated object, but also offers the possibility to perceive it as a vibrant wall, an interface between the artist – his/her singular perception of the world – and a material, a substance; between the transformed material and the viewer, existing only from and through their encounter.

This study is the result of an investigative process, in the form of participatory research, with low-income youth, graduated from a public school in Santa Maria/RS. The object of study is abided to the following problem: how low-income youth in cultural and school disadvantage subvert Enem undemocratic logic, when it devises strategies for school and social inclusion? I assume that the Enem is not, so far, a democratic policy that allows access to low-income youth to public higher education. This question requires a foray into three central themes to the work: inclusion/exclusion, youth and contemporary educational policies. The objective of this research, therefore, is to understand how young people, located in areas of great social deprivation, economic and social standing of disadvantaged, identified from certain habitus and lifestyle (Bourdieu, 1989), graduated in public school can subvert the Enem undemocratic logic, to develop strategies for academic and social integration. Therefore, it was necessary to identify the conditions of juvenile research participants. The choice of the object and the way I approach it, as well as the choice of the school field, in addition to the readings that comprise the chosen field (Sociology of Education) also arise from understanding the social elements present in my life. The methodology used for the study was the participant research. It was held, with young people graduated from high school in a public school in Santa Maria/RS, ten workshops inspired by the experiences of Paulo Freire's crop circle and the option of analytical results of the workshops that produced was the systematization of experiences, so that the learning produced in the circles were not allayed. The research has the prospect of cooperating with the studies on youth and education in Brazil, as well as contributes to the expansion of democratic spaces that welcome and produce collective experiences of new readings of the world.

However, a new interest in the theme, evidenced by studies, theses, thematic meetings and websites, as well as a noticeable increase in legislative measures, has appeared as a response to the deterioration of human relationships in recent times. From a psychoanalytical perspective, this study will try to contribute to this theme. To consider humiliation as the suffering of a sole subject and also of many people, is to understand humiliation as a social phenomenon, caused by the tension and contradiction of the inseparable relationship between the subject and society. This analysis aims to avoid the victimization of the humiliated, in order to investigate the relevant subjective, social and political aspects that cause the human being to put himself in this place of extreme suffering, making it difficult for him to swap from the position of object of jouissance of the Other to the position of a subject who desires / Não são muitos os estudos específicos sobre a humilhação social.

How anorexia is of the culture in the contemporary? Anorexia exposes a malaise of contemporary society? And if withdraws, that malaise is this? To develop this research I make use mainly of Psychoanalytic Theory, especially the Freudian concepts of body, desire, drive, anorexia and culture. I also make contributions in history, especially the contributions of Denize Bernuzzi Sant'ana on the contemporary, body and magreza.A methodology used for this research is to psychotherapy, since it proposes to investigate the uniqueness of the subject, while trained and entered in the field language and observed in the transference relationship between analyst and analysand. Therefore, this thesis begins with a chapter on anorexia as a symptom. Then discuss anorexia in more detail by addressing the psychological dynamics responsible for the formation of anorexic symptoms. Seeking me go a little deeper, I think the next chapter in what is the desire according to psychoanalysis and how it presents itself in the psychic dynamics of anorexics. Then I discuss the concept of body in psychoanalysis, to understand that this assumes the lead role in the dynamics anorexic. Then I try to introduce the concept of malaise presented by Freud in his famous book The malaise in Civilization (1930). Present soon after, reports of a young woman with anorexic symptoms posted on his blog on the internet during the period September 2006 to October 2009. Then discuss these reports from a psychoanalytic reading about the subjectivity of this young, where I try to analyze the unconscious material that these reports are likely to hide. I conclude with a discussion on the malaise related to anorexia, which I try to articulate the analysis of the text of young Anna Paula with psychoanalytic concepts about the contemporary and historical / Este trabalho busca discutir as seguintes questões: quais são os aspectos estruturais da anorexia?

No. of bitstreams: 1 Simone Spadafora.pdf: 1358993 bytes, checksum: 352072a2ac5547fc71ca481b3fc9af27 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-03-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The following bibliographic study intends to demonstrate how elderliness, defined by the external converse of the subject, has been represented through stigmatized, incapacitating and pathologized identities, disabling and obstructing the act of listening to and perceiving human singularities and diversities in its various forms of growing old. Elderlies have been heard by parties, solely through a biological approach. Elderly voices will be taken into account as well as that of the elderly deaf. The majority of the input was obtained during acupuncture sessions, and these relate the suffering that the lack of being listened to has caused, inhibiting their health, entirety, and integrity. We will also address their pain, the most outstanding of these being the loss of, or the absence of voice. Authors such as Balandier, Sennett, Bauman, Morin, Augé, Sacks, Granet, Biase, Yamamura, among others, will contribute to the reflection on the matter in which the elderly have been defined. Alongside these we present the contemporary, the acceleration of time and information, as well as productivity. We approach homogenization, order, at the same time soliciting activity, offering an opportunity amidst this fertile and creative disorder for the development of new perspectives. This activity, or disorder, highlights the need to tune into new life forms beyond the known, stated, or considered normal . From within these private audiences we will take an all-inclusive trip. How do these individual ( parts ) clinical hearings interpret the contemporary ( whole )? The social sickness of exclusion is a deep rooted evil caused by homogenization, standardization, and normalization, caused by the imposed order that restricts locations, excludes differences, and pathologizes the unknown. The healthy life of society does not seem to be in linearity, which does not appear to remain attainable. This is not a diagnostic review, since it does not include statistic data; it is only a paced dialog concerning a topic, that is, old people who are rarely listened to. The elderly are presented by the pseudonym Adhara, which means base, support, as well as a star whose brightness reflects that of another star. Independent of which star shines and which one reflects, the brightness that is found in human relations is what should be highlighted. One must take time to broaden their understanding of the other, beyond its own scope, assuming that exclusion is not an exclusive condition for the elderly or the deaf. Within this lies the alterity that has not been heard, for a lack of acceptance and sensibility. Society s fabric is woven through the practice of dialoging. However, in order to reach this dialog a new view must be adopted, concerning elderliness, the elder, and the disabled elder.
