[en] LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF THE BRAZILIAN (PRE)ADOLESCENT FROM THE DIGITAL GENERATION CONCERNING AN ENGLISH COURSEBOOK PRODUCED IN BRAZIL / [pt] OUVINDO A VOZ DO (PRÉ)ADOLESCENTE BRASILEIRO DA GERAÇÃO DIGITAL SOBRE O LIVRO DIDÁTICO DE INGLÊS DESENVOLVIDO NO BRASILMARCIA CASTELO BRANCO NOGUEIRA 28 August 2007 (has links)
Posteriormente, esses
aspectos do livro
estrangeira. A análise do
alunos aprovam esses
aspectos e corroborou com a sua escolha. / [en] This study consists of an investigation of the aspects of
an English textbook
which the students like and consider motivating. The
course book chosen is an
English series especially developed for Brazilian tweens
and teenagers who study
at a private English institute. The students using the
material were heard and they
pointed out three aspects which they considered positive
and approved of: the
texts the material makes use of, its layout and its
approach to the teaching of
grammar. Resorting to relevant theories, i.e., the genre
theory, the multimodality
theory and theories related to the teaching of a foreign
language, the material was
thoroughly analysed. The insights brought about by this
analysis helped us
understand the reasons why the students approved of these
aspects and
corroborate their choice.

[en] EUCLIDES ROXO AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN BRAZIL / [pt] EUCLIDES ROXO E A CONSTITUIÇÃO DA EDUCAÇÃO MATEMÁTICA NO BRASILBRUNO ALVES DASSIE 06 August 2008 (has links)
Matemática no Brasil. Este estudo foi separado em duas
etapas.
livro didático e a formação do professor.
A base documental desta
[en] The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how Euclides
Roxos´s role in
the reform of secondary mathematics teaching in Brazil,
during the 1920´s and
1930´s contributed to the establishment of mathematics
education in Brazil.
This study has two parts. Initially, in order to understand
how an engineer could
propose innovations in the teaching of mathematics it was
necessary to study
his life, since he entered the Colégio Pedro II as a
student through his first years
as a teacher in this institution and at the Escola Normal.
After this, we analyze
how the curricular changes proposed by Euyclides Roxo, at
first just for the
Colégio Pedro II and based on the international reform
movements, altered
significantly the teaching of this subject, as for example,
the curricula, textbooks,
and teacher education. Thus, we were able to establish some
characteristics of this period, starting with Euclides Roxo
viewed as an
individual in a mesh of interdependent relations. The
documentary basis for
this research was composed of material from the Arquivo
Pessoal Euclides
Roxo, Centro de Memória do Instituto Superior de Educação
do Rio de
Janeiro, mathematics text-books used in Brazil, and of
past researches on the
subject of the thesis, which belong to the area of the
History of mathematics
education in Brazil, with the intention to offer some
relevant contributions to
this area.

The aim of this essay is to examine how digital media are used during English teaching in Sweden for students in grades 4-6. The reason is that students in those grades practice a lot of English out of class, especially when they use different digital medias such as computer games, TV-shows, YouTube etcetera. Activities with digital medias is something students does for pleasure, driven by intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is reached when three basic psychological needs are fulfilled; autonomy, competence and relatedness. For this reason, a text analysis has been done on tasks in English coursebooks and also interviews with teachers in grades 4-6 to find out in what extent students have the opportunity to work with digital medias and how these fulfills the psychological needs that lead to intrinsic motivation. The results shows that tasks in the examined coursebooks rarely deals with use of digital medias. When digital medias are included, the tasks can fulfill the psychological needs. The interviews indicates that teachers include digital media in teaching, but there is often a lack of autonomy for students.

Grammar in coursebooks? : An examination of how three coursebooks for the subject of English in Swedish upper-secondary school take account of grammar / Grammatik i kursböckerThelander, Teodor January 2022 (has links)
In almost all teaching, in all of the school subjects, teachers use materials to help them conduct their work. But how do coursebooks that are designed for the subject of English in Sweden tackle the subject? This study aims to investigate how coursebooks for the subject of English at Swedish upper-secondary school take account of the subject area of grammar. To cover this aim two research questions were formulated, namely: In what ways do coursebooks for the subject of English at upper-secondary school take account of grammar? In what ways do coursebooks for the subject of English take account of grammar in relation to what is said in the syllabus? The method of this essay consists of a content analysis of three coursebooks used at upper-secondary school. To support the analysis, the concepts of deductive and inductive approach to grammar teaching were used to categorize the books. The results show that grammar is featured in connection with a text or a theme to various degrees in the books. One of the books has a clear deductive approach to grammar presentation. The other two have either a clear inductive approach or a mix of both of them. All of the books examined can be considered to adhere to what the syllabus says regarding grammar. Based on the results one can say that it is important for teachers to reflect on the material they use.

To Use or Not to Use Coursebooks? : A Study of Teachers' Opinions on Coursebooks and What Constitutes a Good One in the English Classroom / Att använda läromedel eller inte?
The aim of this study is to investigate teachers’ opinions and experiences using analogue coursebooks in lower secondary school English teaching. The study was conducted using written interviews, interviewing 7 currently active teachers teaching English in the Swedish school system, with the participants’ answers being the material. Thematic Analysis was a method used to structure the results, and Sociocultural Theory was the theoretical perspective. The themes that were identified were: analogue coursebooks; digital coursebooks; more or less suitable activities for coursebook usage; the future of coursebook usage; and desirable qualities of a coursebook. The results of the study reveal that the participants have a positive outlook on using analogue coursebooks in the English classroom as a way of maintaining a certain level of difficulty and quality in the teaching, whilst also having something to fall back on as a source with varied content that can be used. There were no noticeable differences in the teachers’ opinion of what they could be used for but the extent to which they used them varied depending on their experience in the profession. Finally, the cost of coursebooks was mentioned as a key aspect in the process of selecting coursebooks, together with user-friendliness and flexibility.

Výuka gramatice ve specifických formách výuky (firemní kurzy - výuka dospělých). / Teaching grammar in specific forms of education (in-company courses - adult learners).Pohořálková, Pavla January 2013 (has links)
The diploma thesis focuses on teaching grammar in the context of in-company language courses. What needs to be taken into consideration are both the psychological aspects of adult learners and the sociological characteristics of a typical course participant, their position of a client which is connected to high expectations of the service provided - language tuition. The role of the teacher in an in-company course is much less authoritative than in a traditional course and teachers become rather partners or coaches for the learners. The pedagogical research conducted among 172 Czech in-company learners with the help of an electronic questionnaire shows that the main aim of in-company students is to be able to communicate efficiently in real-life situations from their private and working lives. It is the role of the teacher, or the coursebook author, to choose which grammar structures are necessary to succeed in the respective situations. Therefore, the most suitable method for teaching grammar in the context of in-company courses is the Engage, Study, Activate method combined with the eclectic method.
