Estatisticas de ordem superior para canais de desvanecimento Weibull e Nakagami-m / Higher order statistics for Nakagami-m and Weibull fading channels

Costa, Daniel Benevides da 28 April 2006 (has links)
Orientador: Michel Daoud Yacoub / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Eletrica e de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-06T06:51:34Z (GMT). This dissertation provides an analysis of the higher order statistics for WeibuII and Nakagami-m fading channels. Conceming WeibuII fading channels, due to the absence of a fading model related of such channels, joint statistics for two correlated WeibuII variates were obtained in cIosed-form and in terms of welI-known physical parameters. Other statistics found were the levei crossing rate and the average fade duration for unbalanced, non-identical, correlated WeibuII channels operating over two branches of diversity. Furthermore, a characterization of the behaviour of the phase process and its time derivative for WeibuII signals was accomplish. Conceming Nakagami-m fading channeIs, a simple and cIosed-form expression for the generalized phase crossing rate was obtained. Results of simulation thoroughly validated the formulation proposed. Moreover, new cIosed-form statistics for the envelope, for the in-phase and quadrature components, for the phase and its respective time derivative were derived. / Mestrado / Telecomunicações e Telemática / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Vybraní obratlovci Jizerských hor v badatelsky orientované výuce zoologie na základních a středních školách / Selected Vertebrate Species of the Jizera Mountains in Inquiry Based Science Education at Primary and Secondary Schools

Kršková, Adéla January 2016 (has links)
The thesis consists of two main parts: a theoretical one which includes a separate chapter about the Jizera Mountains as a whole, introducing their geological structure, climate, botanical and zoological species and three public figures connected with the Jizera Mountains. The second part is a practical one. The first chapter which is divided into ten sub-chapters, introduces typical vertebrates, especially those which can be included in education at primary schools and grammar schools. The next chapter mentions nature trails which are later suggested as enriching elements in zoological excursions. These must follow the official paths within the nature conservation area. Certain thought in this thesis is also given to the SPA (Special Protection Area) established to protect the black grouse and the boreal owl. The last but one chapter involves selected centres of ecological education and other organisations organising programmes focused on vertebrates. Then there is classification of primary and secondary education with emphasizing a short survey of which biology textbooks are used at primary schools around Jablonec nad Nisou. Education at secondary schools is supplemented with international researches called PISA and TIMSS serving as a base for the last chapter, which is about enquiry based...

On the Fence

Medrano, Estevan 12 1900 (has links)
Living the vast majority of my life in an area that celebrates diversity but thrives because of illegal cross-border activities (undocumented workers, drug imports) at times the distance between the United States and Mexico is in fact as thin as the width of a fence. Though it is typical for a filmmaker to hope to present a unique take on a subject, given how I have seen the topics of immigration and the perspective of the purpose of homeland security portray, I am confident that there is an opportunity to show these issues in a more personal, less aggressive light with the use of first person accounts instead of a dependence on the most violent aspects of these topics. The main subject will give character to this agency by blurring the lines of his life as an agent and as a citizen.

Stadsdelar i förändring : En jämförande arkitekturanalys av gentrifierade områden i Chicago och London / Transforming urban districts : A comparative architectural analysis of gentrified areas in Chicago and London

Olivendal, Nica January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation was to research, through a comparative architectural analysis, whether the two urban districts Camden Town in north London and Greater Grand Crossing in south Chicago have or have not been gentrified and, if so, what kind of gentrification process they have gone through. The study was based on three questions: what buildings have been transformed in each area? How have the buildings been transformed? Have the functionsof the city districts been transformed with any particular focus in mind? The study found that Camden Town has been tourist gentrified, since the primary focus of the gentrification process was towards tourism and entertainment businesses where old Victorian, industrial buildings were transformed into venues for live music, shops and markets. In the case of Greater Grand Crossing however, it is not possible to establish that the area has been gentrified. Chicagoan artist Theaster Gates transformed several residential houses as part of a project, some of which remained residential, and some were made into spaces for cultural activities. However, the focus of the transformation was towards the already existing population and not towards potential gentrifiers.

Libertarianism and Climate Change

Torpman, Olle January 2016 (has links)
In this dissertation, I investigate the implications of libertarian morality in relation to the problem of climate change. This problem is explicated in the first chapter, where preliminary clarifications are also made. In the second chapter, I briefly explain the characteristics of libertarianism relevant to the subsequent study, including the central non-aggression principle. In chapter three, I examine whether our individual emissions of greenhouse gases, which together give rise to climate change, meet this principle. I do this based on the assumption that we are the legitimate owners of the resources we use in those activities. In the fourth chapter, I question this assumption and scrutinize libertarianism’s restrictions on appropriations of climate-relevant resources, which leads me to distinguish between some different versions of the libertarian view. Toward the end of the chapter, I also examine libertarianism’s answer to the political question regarding how emission rights should be distributed. The fifth chapter investigates libertarianism’s verdicts for mere risks of infringement, as stemming from people’s emissions and acts of appropriations. In chapter six, I investigate the libertarian right to self-defense against both the effects of climate change and other people’s climate-relevant activities. In chapter seven, I discuss two intergenerational issues related to climate change: what libertarianism says concerning future generations and how libertarianism might deal with the problem of historical emissions. The eighth chapter explores the implications of libertarianism regarding collective moral wrongdoing in connection to climate change. In chapter nine, I take a look at the libertarian room for governmental responses for tackling climate change. The tenth and final chapter is a summary. The overall conclusion of the dissertation is that libertarianism recommends that we reduce our emissions and decrease our extraction of natural resources such as forests and fossil fuels. Furthermore, governments are permitted to undertake some quite substantial actions in order to fight the causes of climate change. I end with some bottom-up reflections on what these conclusions might say about the plausibility of libertarianism. I claim that although libertarianism after all manages to explain some of our moral intuitions regarding climate change, it is questionable whether libertarianism’s explanation is better than those offered by alternative moral theories.

Experimental investigation of geomechanical aspects of hydraulic fracturing unconventional formations

Alabbad, Emad Abbad 10 October 2014 (has links)
Understanding the mechanisms that govern hydraulic fracturing applications in unconventional formations, such as gas-bearing shales, is of increasing interest to the petroleum upstream industry. Among such mechanisms, the geomechanical interactions between hydraulic fractures and pre-existing fractures on one hand, and simultaneous multiple hydraulic fractures on the other hand are seen of high importance. Although the petroleum engineering and related literature contains a number of studies that discusses such topics of hydraulic fracture interactions, there still remain some aspects that require answers, validations, or further supporting data. Particularly, experimental evidence is fairly scarce and keenly needed to solidify the understanding of such complex applications. In this work, the investigation methodology uses a series of hydraulic fracturing laboratory tests performed on synthetic rocks made of gypsum-based cements such as hydrostone and plaster in various experimental set ups. Those laboratory tests aim to closely investigate hydraulic fracture intersection with pre-existing fractures by assessing some factors that govern its outcomes. Specifically, the roles of the pre-existing fracture cementation, aperture, and relative height on the intersection mode are examined. The results show dominant effect of the cement-fill type relative to the host-rock matrix in determining whether hydraulic fracture crossing the pre-existing interface may occur. Similarly, hydraulic fracture height relative to the height of the pre-existing fracture may dictate the intersection results. However, the intersection mode seems to be insensitive of the pre-existing fracture aperture. Moreover, simultaneous multi-fracture propagation is examined and found to be impacted by the interference of the stresses induced from each fracturing source on neighboring fracturing sources. Such stress interference increases as the number of the propagating hydraulic fractures increase. While hydraulic fractures initiating from fracturing sources located in the middle of the fracturing stage seem to have inhibited propagation, outer hydraulic fractures may continue propagating with outward curvatures. Overall, the experimental results and analyses offer more insights for understanding hydraulic fracture complexity in unconventional formations. / text
