The present text, developed in the scope of the Professional Master in Management and Evaluation of Public Education (PPGP) of the Center for Public Policies and Education Evaluation of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (CAEd / UFJF), comprises a management case that analyzes the (UFJF-GV), implemented in 2012 through the Support Program for Restructuring and Expansion of Federal Universities (Reuni). From the observations in the professional daily life, with the work of cultural production within the sector of Communication, Culture and Events (CCE), it was possible to identify problems that make difficult the planning and the accomplishment of actions of an artistic and cultural nature in the campus. The difficulty found in the UFJF-GV is something common to public institutions of higher education, limiting the role of universities to ensure that their students have access to the production and appreciation of cultural actions, thus being against a project country that aims at the integral development of citizens. The general objective of this work was to analyze the main barriers in the development of projects and actions of culture in the UFJFGV. The specific objectives were presented as: to describe the factors that hinder the development of cultural activities in the UFJF-GV; to analyze the perspective of the managers of the UFJF's Pro-Rectory of Culture, the General Directorate and the UFJF-GV students on cultural management at the Governador Valadares campus; and propose a plan of intervention consistent with the reality of the advanced campus and that enables the development of cultural activities in a successful way. For this, a sociocultural questionnaire was applied to the students of UFJF-GV, which identified the lack of training in the cultural artistic field of the students, as well as a relevant demand for the practice of cultural actions, considering that the current formation has been limited to technical issues. Interviews were also conducted with the managers of UFJF-GV and the UFJF's Department of Culture. Among the main issues identified by the interviews are the lack of definition of the responsibility for the management of cultural work in the advanced campus, as well as the deficit of resources and servers working in the area. Based on these diagnoses, the Educational Action Plan proposes to carry out seven actions that aim, among other things, to minimize the impacts of technical training imposed on public universities, as well as the creation of a plan that defines responsibilities and actions to be carried out by the advanced campus cultural area. In general, the plan seeks to intervene the gaps identified with the research and interviews, contributing to the UFJF-GV fulfilling its mission as an educational institution and space for the promotion of diversity and culture, thus cooperating for development regional level.

Vad hade Ingvar gjort? / What would Ingvar do? : A qualitative study of swedish IKEA firms cultural management during telecommutingSelskog, Jesper, Valfridsson, Joakim January 2022 (has links)
Background: Corporate culture is defined by the belief systems, norms, values, and underlying assumptions whose purpose is to contribute to goal congruence within the organization. The literature thus speaks of the importance of cultural management but there’s a lack of studies regarding how companies actively control their corporate culture during telecommuting. The Covid-19 pandemic led to restrictions to reduce the spread of infection and thus, forced organizations to work from home. The study, therefore, aims to investigate how cultural management is implemented during a transition to teleworking and specifically because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate how leaders actively work with cultural management during tele-work and thus how cultural management is affected by a transition to telecommuting. Method: The study was conducted through a qualitative interview study. The empirical material has been collected through semi-structured interviews with leaders from swedish IKEA firms. Conclusion: Cultural management during telecommuting does not to any significant extent differ from how it is conducted in the office. Companies tend however to a greater extent, to control corporate culture through a formalization of informal rituals and processes. Corporate culture is still controlled through formal rituals and symbols during telecommuting but with the difference that the practical implementation of them takes place digitally. Furthermore, is the role of a cultural spreader given a more prominent role during telecommuting due to a greater need to promote the culture since it does not manifest itself as clearly as in the office.

Development and Evaluation of Integrated Approaches for Managing of Mexican Bean Beetle, Epilachna varivestis MulsantNottingham, Louis B. 31 January 2017 (has links)
The Mexican bean beetle, Epilachna varivestis Mulsant, is a major pest of snap beans, Phaseolus vulgaris L. in the Central Appalachian region of the United States. To develop pertinent research objectives, background information on this pest was gathered from literature sources and personal communications with growers, extension agents and other agricultural professionals. In objective one, Mexican bean beetle preference, developmental success and plant injury were compared among three snap bean and three lima bean cultivars in field and greenhouse trials. The cultivar 'Dragon's Tongue' was the most preferred, suitable for development, and prone to injury. Growers may benefit from growing less susceptible cultivars, or by using 'Dragon's Tongue' in trap cropping or push-pull strategies. In objective two, Mexican bean beetle densities, feeding injury, and yield were compared among snap beans grown on metallized plastic (highly reflective), white plastic, black plastic, and bare soil. Metallized plastic provided the greatest level of control, and resulted in the highest yields. Managing Mexican bean beetle by growing beans on metallized plastic may be used as a stand-alone method, or in a push-pull strategy. In the final objective, the effects of snap beans grown from thiamethoxam (a neonicotinoid insecticide)-treated seeds on Mexican bean beetle were assessed in greenhouse and field experiments. Thiamethoxam-treated plants killed 40 to 50% of Mexican bean beetle adults and larvae up to 16 days after planting. In the field, thiamethoxam-treated plants mitigated Mexican bean beetle densities and damage in one out of five experiments, resulting in a yield increase. In none of the five field experiments were differences detected in predatory arthropod species between thiamethoxam and non-insecticide treated beans. In summary, the results of this project suggest that non-chemical management methods, such as cultivar selection and planting beans on reflective mulch, can provide effective control of Mexican bean beetle. Thiamethoxam-treated seed may also provide control of this pest, but only within two to three weeks after planting; otherwise, there is typically no effect on beetles, injury or yield. This doctoral research has laid a foundation for an integrated pest management approach for Mexican bean beetle. / Ph. D. / Integrated pest management (IPM) is an economical and environmentally-sensible approach to pest management that considers numerous control and decision-making strategies. This dissertation examined non-chemical strategies and the use of an insecticide seedtreatment for management of Mexican bean beetle, a major pest of green beans in the Central Appalachian region of the United States. To develop pertinent research objectives, background information on this pest was gathered from literature sources and personal communications with growers, extension agents and other agricultural professionals. In objective one, Mexican bean beetle preference, developmental success and plant injury were compared among various bean cultivars in field and greenhouse trials. The cultivar ‘Dragon’s Tongue’ was the most suitable host for Mexican bean beetle, and consequently incurred the greatest injury. Growers in high risk areas for Mexican bean beetle may benefit from growing less susceptible cultivars. In objective two, Mexican bean beetle severity and yield were compared among green beans grown on reflective metallized plastic, white plastic, black plastic, and bare soil. Metallized plastic provided the greatest level of control, and resulted in the largest yields. Our results suggest that growing beans on reflective surfaces may be an effective, chemical-free management strategy for Mexican bean beetle. In the final objective, the effects of green beans grown from thiamethoxam (a neonicotinoid insecticide)-coated seeds was examined on Mexican bean beetle severity, non-pest arthropods, and crop performance in greenhouse and field experiments. Bean plants grown from insecticide-coated seeds were highly-toxic to Mexican bean beetle for about 16 days after planting. In one out of five experiments, thiamethoxam-treated plants reduced pest levels, resulting in increased yields. More often, Mexican bean beetles arrived after the insecticide had disappeared from plants and there was no effect. There were no detectable effects from the thiamethoxam treatment on non-pest arthropods in any experiment. Overall, seed-treatments may provide occasional control of Mexican bean beetle, but non-chemical methods may be as effective and more practical. This doctoral research project has provided a foundation for an integrated pest management approach for Mexican bean beetle.

Country-Adjusted Motivation : A Conceptual Model, applied in the Context of Motivation of a Code of ConductHögman, Kristina January 2014 (has links)
Companies adopt codes of conduct to set minimum standards on ethical issues, minimums that suppliers must keep. Problems has been found by other researchers regarding suppliers motivation to comply to the code. This study develops a conceptual model for how motivation can be adjusted to different countries, depending on economic situation, politic stability and culture of the country. Country-Adjusted Motivation is made by shaping motivating in relation to the human need that dominates in the country and by using the national culture to colour motivation. The model is applied in the context of how to motivate suppliers to a code of conduct in different countries. The model Country-Adjusted Motivation could as well be applied to other multinational contexts, where strong motivation is needed.

Since the 1950’s, the conversion of industrial wastelands constitute an important phenomenon in Europe. Even if it is more known as a movement of urban redevelopment, it also holds a particular meaning for today’s cultural and artistic practices. These huge (vast) spaces that were abandoned by science and industries of the modern era start to become the places of alternative expressions which are convenient for exchanges between art, industry and science of contemporary times. Thus, these memorial places‐ through their particular characteristics incarnate the entity of the western contemporary societies. Starting by their facilities, the model of organization of work, and the industrial production approach that they reflect; their factories, laboratories and centers are at the crossroads of several artistic questions. The major objective of this thesis is to analyze the possibility of an interaction between art, science, and industry but also academia within the project of a particular cultural wasteland realized in Istanbul in Turkey by putting the emphasis on social –economicalechoes of such a conversion at urban level. Observing the unique example of Santralistanbul – an initiative of Bilgi University that gave life again to the ancient electricity power station of Silahtaraga‐, the point is to highlight theparticularities of the project and to focus principally on the activities concerning the domain of performing arts.

Managing Swedish Gender Equality Policies in Shanghai : A study on how Swedish based corporations, established in Shanghai, manage Swedish gender equality policies cross-culturally / Hantering av Svenska Jämställdhet policyer i Shanghai : En studie om hur svenska företag som är etablerade i Shanghai hanterar svenska jämställdhetspolicys interkulturelltErlandsson, Pontus, Joelsson, Gustaf January 2019 (has links)
Despite policy efforts by the Chinese state to eradicate gender inequality, statistics show that the issue of gender discrimination in the work domain has become increasingly acute in modern day China. The prevailing gender inequality derives from China’s deeply rooted masculine oriented cultural and societal structure, and traditional norms and values towards women in the work domain are fighting the policies against gender inequality that the Chinese state has implemented. Studies show that foreign affiliations have the ability to transplant corporate culture internationally, which also infers a transplantation of certain policies. One of the many western countries that have seen its corporations establish offices in China is Sweden - a country which puts a lot of focus and emphasis on promoting gender equality. Chinese and Swedish cultural and societal structure differs a lot, and so does the focus on gender equality. The theory suggests that gender equality is highly prioritized in Sweden, while it is less prioritized in China. This constitutes an interesting phenomena regarding how managers at Swedish based corporations, established in Shanghai, manage Swedish gender equality policies cross-culturally. The purpose of this study is to describe and explore how Swedish based corporations that are established in Shanghai, China, manage gender equality policies cross-culturally. In order to answer our research question, we performed four face to face semi-structured interviews together with four suitable Swedish based corporations at their offices in Shanghai. The results from this study concluded that the Swedish based corporations transfer the vast majority of their policy framework to their offices in Shanghai, particularly gender equality policies. The gender equality policies were often included in the corporations Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) framework. The study could conclude that even though no adaption was done to the policy documents per se, the Swedish corporations did adapt modestly to how they manage the policies in practice in Shanghai. This followed as a consequence of a wish to respectfully adapt to Chinese legal and cultural prerequisites. Due to China's legal prerequisites, some policies, such as parental leave, could not be fully implemented at the Shanghai offices. In other words, in those instances, the policy documents were trumped by legal employment regulations. Cultural prerequisites affected how the managers in the shanghai offices dealt with the policy documents in practice. Our study could found that policy management was closely connected to the corporate culture in the Shanghai offices. Our study could thus conclude that the Swedish based corporations adapt the policy management in practice to the meet Chinese culture, without compromising the Swedish corporate culture and values.
