Climate Justice and the Paris Agreement : Dimensions of Climate Justice in the Nationally Determined Contributions

Göthberg, Rosalind January 2020 (has links)
Climate change is a critical threat to all the countries of the world today, not least because of the severe human rights infringements it may well lead to. However, although climate change is a collective, global challenge, there are considerable inequalities regarding contribution to cause and burden of the effects. Those suffering the most from the effects of climate change tend to be least responsible for the emissions causing it. The theoretical concept of climate justice aims to address these injustices, between different countries as well as societal groups and generations. To contribute to the understanding of how this concept is present in the global climate debate today, this thesis examines a selection of the Paris Agreement parties’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) from a perspective of climate justice. The analysis is based on a theoretical framework developed by Andrea Schapper, focusing on three dimensions of climate justice – international, intra-societal and intergenerational. Through this framework, a total of 36 NDCs are studied, the top and bottom three countries for each world region based on levels of cumulative CO2-emissions. The aim of the case selection has been to obtain a variation regarding development status, vulnerability to the effects of climate change, levels of greenhouse gas emissions and geographical location of the studied countries. The results of the study show that all the dimensions are present in at least some of the studied NDCs, but to a very different extent. Primarily, the parties discuss the issue of international justice. Intra-societal justice is touched upon quite frequently but very few bring up the matter of intergenerational justice. Moreover, all three dimensions are predominantly handled by countries classified as ”developing” (according to the UN statistics division).  This implies that climate justice is a higher priority for the most vulnerable to and least responsible for climate change, which is problematic for many reasons. Above all, it indicates that rich, industrialized countries are reluctant to take responsibility for their current and historical emissions, as well as the effect those emissions have on others.

Motivation till gymträning i det moderniserade samhället : En kvantitativ tvärsnittsstudie om behovstillfredsställelse och motivation i förhållande till gymträning / Motivation for gym training in the modernized society : A quantitative cross-sectional study on need satisfaction and motivation in relation to gym training

Lebisch, Oscar, Ingman, Tobias January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate mediating effects by self-determined motivation and controlled motivation on the relationship between need satisfaction and gym training. All based on previous research and with the Self-Determination Theory as an analytical standpoint. 107 people participated in the study, of which 47 were men and 60 were women, in ages between 18-59 (M= 29.2, SD=8.4). The result shows that self-determined motivation mediated the relationship between need satisfaction and gym training, while controlled motivation does not. This result correspond with what previous research has shown and emphasizes the importance of self-determined motivation further. The authors of this study calls for qualitative research on this field that can extract empirical data expressed in words rather than numbers.

Klimatsmart mat i Malmö

Källgarn, Olov, Jensen, Björn January 2017 (has links)
Malmö, according to its own environmental program, wants to be "Sweden's most climate friendly city". All food purchased from the municipality should be organic and the greenhouse gas emissions should decreased by 40% by the end of 2020. The ecological target seems to be achievable, but climate emissions have only fallen by 15% at the time of writing. The city is now running a new venture to meet the goals. This study examines the procedure developed by Malmö City Environmental Management in relation to research on climate communication and behavioral change. It is common for evaluations of education to focus on the attitudes of the participants, rather than the behavioral changes that the education encourages. Through group interviews with educators and project participants, as well as content analysis of the educational material, the survey seeks to answer the question: Does the management of the environmental administration lead to a change in behavior in the education target group?Even though, according to the respondents, few changes have taken place so far, we have been able to identify obstacles, improvement measures and map how the participants relate to the education and the goal in different ways. We note thatthe method of conducting the venture does not use a theoretical framework or is consistently rooted in science. We note that the municipality has a strong position to realize environmentally friendly behavior among its employees, but that the municipality underuses the potential. Consequences and opportunities is discussed.

Effects of an Electronic Visual Activity Schedule on Independence for a Student with Severe Disability

Alghamdi, Ashwag 01 May 2019 (has links) (PDF)
This study investigated the effects of an electronic visual activity schedule (eVAS; i.e., FIRST THEN Visual Schedule application) paired with the system of least prompts on the latency period and level of independence that a fifth-grade student with Intellectual Disability needed to transition throughout the day. Also investigated were the value that the teacher and student placed on the use of an eVAS to teach daily life and school routines instead of typical instruction (e.g., traditional visual schedule) and the student’s ability to generalize the use of the eVAS across instructors and materials (display). An ABAB single case design was used to investigate the effects of the eVAS app. Study research results indicated a functional relation between the use of the eVAS paired with the system of least prompts and the students correct responding and decreased latency. Limitations of the study and the suggestions for future research are discussed.

Klanglichkeit und formaler Zusammenhang in Brahms’ opp. 114 und 115: Analytische Implikationen eines Begriffs

Bodamer, Konstantin 24 October 2023 (has links)
For the analysis of music sound is a problematic category because of the lack of distinct definitions. Such definitions will be found within the context of Sound Studies of popular music. Using the example of the first movements from the Clarinet Trio op. 114 and the Clarinet Quintet op. 115 of Brahms this article seeks to adapt the concept of sound as established in popular music to the analysis of classical music. The analysis shall explain how sound as determined by instrumentation shapes the musical character and formal structure of both movements.

Grenier, Fanny 04 1900 (has links)
Different lines of research have focused on compliments that parents should avoid in order not to jeopardize the development of children’s self-esteem and optimal motivational processes (e.g. Kamins and Dweck, 1999; Kast and Konnor, 1988). However, no study had yet attempted to identify potentially optimal compliments to favor these developments. Through three studies, this exploratory thesis thus aimed at comparing different compliments conceptualized as positive in the literature using a sample of mother-child dyads (N = 65, mean age of the children = 10.20 years). The first study examined the relations between different types of compliments, on one hand, and children's self-esteem and motivational processes on the other, while controlling for demographic variables of children’s sex and age. Given that the different types of compliments were likely to coexist but were never compared in a single study, their relations with the dependent variables were examined while also controlling for their interrelations using multiple regressions. The second study aimed at highlighting the links between children's perception of their mother typical parenting practices and the different types of compliments conceptualized as positive in the literature. To investigate these relations, we relied on questionnaires filled out by two different respondents (children and their mothers). The third study relied on an experimental design to investigate the situational impacts of comparative, result-oriented and descriptive compliments on children's perceived competence (or their situational self-esteem) and motivational processes, with a focus on the potential impacts of three moderators likely to accentuate, or reduce, the effect of the experimental manipulation (i.e. sex, age and children's global self-esteem). The main results show that it is possible to provide a comprehensive portrait of the compliments conceptualized as positive in the literature by distinguishing four types: comparative, result-oriented, process-oriented and descriptive compliments. Two of these compliments, namely result-oriented compliments and process-oriented compliments, seem to be the most used. The thesis also reveals that only descriptive compliments seem positively related to children's self-esteem (global and situational), especially for girls and children reporting lower than average self-esteem. Through the pursuit of these three objectives, this thesis contributes to the advancement of knowledge on compliments, to self-determination theory (SDT) and helps identify intervention avenues that will allow parents to intervene and communicate optimally with their children.
