Inkluderad?

Macbagan, Camilla, Pollacco, Hannah January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of the survey was to see what methods teachers use to include the physically disabled students in leisure education and the used methods meet the goals and requirements under the UNCRC, the Salamanca Statement and national law formulate. The study had two main questions: How do teachers describe their methods of including the physically disabled students at leisure centers? Does the leisure education meet the requirements of the UNCRC, the Salamanca Statement and national law? Followed by two sub-questions: What is the economic conditions of the leisure centers? In what extent are the leisure centers accessible for the physical disabled students? To answer the purpose and issues qualitative group interviews with 2-3 teachers at three separate leisure centers in a minor, and major municipality in Skåne was conducted. The survey shows that there is a commitment and an ongoing effort to include students with physical disabilities in activities. The survey also shows that there is a risk that these students are stigmatized and restricted in personal development. In order to achieve the goals contained in the declarations and national legislation governing the integration and inclusion of physically disabled students, the survey shows that more extensive changes are required in the way the school organization meets these students' needs at the leisure centers.

Risk, Fitness to practice and Disabled Health Care Students

Walker, Stuart A., Dearnley, Christine A., Hargreaves J., Walker, A. 13 February 2013 (has links)
The United Kingdom Equality Act of 2010 poses challenges to regulators, educators, and employers to ensure that disabled people are not excluded from health care professions on the basis of their impairment. Professional bodies must also anticipate the needs of disabled people and facilitate inclusion. In this article, we discuss some of the current tensions that exist between U.K. antidiscrimination legislation and the professional and statutory regulatory bodies that govern registration of health and social care practitioners in the United Kingdom. We present research that used a mixed methods approach to explore the tensions between higher education and placement providers in the health sector. Disabled students and health professionals engaged in semistructured interviews, and a survey explored the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of professional staff from a range of disciplines and institutions. Findings suggest that the negative feelings disabled students report are also evident in responses from health care professionals. Notions of risk emerge as a key issue from the data. We discuss whether the risk is perceived or actual and develop models to challenge existing preconceptions about the risk posed by disabled students when training as health care professionals. Finally, we suggest that while work clearly needs to be done in this area, some of this work can be addressed through the development of an inclusive curriculum for all health care practitioners. This article proposes an educational model of risk with which to guide this process.

Mobile Enabled Research

Dearnley, Christine A., Walker, Stuart A., Fairhall, John R. 06 1900 (has links)
No / This chapter explores the use of mobile devices in supporting practice based learning for health and social care students and practitioners, against a of current UK disability legislation. The authors present the ‘Mobile Enabled Disabled Students’ case study in depth, accounting for its methodology and discussing the outcomes and implications. They will demonstrate how the features of mobile devices can support the organisational, memory and writing needs of dyslexic students specifically and how they can add value generally to learning and assessment processes. They make recommendations for implementing mobile assessment for practice learning based on a theory of mobile learning designed for accessibility.

An Experimental Investigation into the Interaction Between Modality Preference and Instruction Mode in the Learning of Spelling Words by Upper-Elementary Learning Disabled Students

Hill, Gerald D. (Gerald Dean) 08 1900 (has links)
This study investigated the effects of selected spelling teaching methods on spelling mastery of upper-elementary, learning disabled students. It also examined the value of assessing learning disabled students' modality preferences for diagnostic/prescriptive purposes. The study's significance is that it sought to (a) determine whether students classified as learning disabled can identify their preferred learning modes; (b) determine whether matching modes of instruction to students' modality reference(s) results in greater achievement; and (c) identify a systematic way of prescribing instruction for learning disabled students.

A Phenomenological Study of the Experiences of Higher Education Students with Disabilities

Heindel, Allen J. 15 January 2014 (has links)
Distance education has the potential to offer a meaningful alternative for students with disabilities. Colleges and universities have opportunities to provide quality online courses to students with disabilities; yet data show these students may often choose to discontinue higher education pursuits. Little is currently known about how students with disabilities experience the distance learning environment or how institutions of higher education. This phenomenological study focuses on the quality of the learning experiences and learner satisfaction of students with disabilities in distance education courses. The purpose of this study is to investigate 1) how online learning is experienced by students with disabilities, 2) what factors facilitate or inhibit their online learning, and 3) how what instructors do to facilitate online learning is perceived by students with various disabilities. This study examines how students with various disabilities assess the quality of distance education coursework in terms of three constructs: course interaction, structure, and support. Data was gathered via interviews with consenting participants who had affirmatively responded to a study participation solicitation email and completed a brief survey. Sadly, discussions of topics related to students with disabilities experiences are still rare in the distance education literature. These interview data suggest that, despite having many tasks to which they must attend, more training for instructors is needed on how to work with students with disabilities. The Offices of Students with Disabilities Services and instructors should develop a way to work together, rather than separately, in a proactive rather than reactive fashion, to better serve the needs of students with disabilities. Further research in this area may allow students with disabilities with online courses in higher education to become more vocal about their needs from their individual perspectives and in their own words, and pave the way for improving the quality of the online learning environment for them.

Self-concepts of preadolescents with mild intellectual disability : multidimensionality, measurement, and support for the big fish little pond effect

Tracey, Danielle K., University of Western Sydney, College of Arts, Education and Social Sciences, School of Education and Early Childhood Studies January 2002 (has links)
A major concern facing special educators is how best to educate students with mild intellectual disability, and whether regular or special classes are appropriate. The big fish little pond effect (BFLPE) predicts that students with mild intellectual disability will have higher academic self-concepts when in a special class, whereas labeling theory predicts that placing these students in special classes will lower their self-concepts. This study addresses some of these issues by: identifying a psychometrically sound, multidimensional self-concept measurement instrument; critically examining the structure and nature of self-concepts; investigating the effects of regular and special class placement upon students’ self-concepts, social comparison processes, academic achievement, and stigmatisation; and evaluating the legitimacy of the BFLPE and labeling theory. Three studies were conducted on 211 students in years 2-6. The first study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Self Description Questionnaire I Individual Administration (SDQI-IA) and examined the structure and self-concepts of the sample, and results demonstrated that the SDQI-IA is a valid and reliable measure. The second study tested the BLFPE and labeling theory and results provided support for the BFLPE. The third study measured the self-concepts, social comparison processes and academic achievement of 39 students in different education placements, with results revealing that students moved to special classes reported higher academic achievement and more favourable social comparisons than their counterparts in regular classes / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Mokytojų dirbančių su neįgaliais ir specialiųjų poreikių mokiniais darbo ypatumai bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje / Disabled students’ integration at primary school

Čekanavičiūtė, Kristina 04 September 2008 (has links)
Savo darbe nagrinėjau mokytojų dirbančių su neįgaliais ir specialiųjų poreikių mokiniais darbo ypatumus bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje. Darbo tikslas: ištirti mokytojų dirbančių su neįgaliais ir specialiųjų poreikių mokiniais darbo ypatumus bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje. Uždaviniai: 1. Pateikti pagrindinius Lietuvos Respublikos specialiojo ugdymo įstatymus, teisinius aktus ir bendrąsias nuostatas, reglamentuojančius neįgaliųjų teises ir pareigas. 2. Apibrėžti teorinius integracijos proceso ypatumus, pagrindinius principus ir ugdymo gaires. 3. 2. Integracijos procesas nėra vienalaikis, bet sudėtingas ilgai trunkantis metodologinis ir principų kaitos vyksmas, sutelktas asmens galioms ugdyti, reikalaujantis daugelio institucijų koordinuotos veiklos, o kartu ir pačios visuomenės sąmoningumo. 3. Kompleksinė specialiųjų poreikių vaikų ugdymo realybė iškelia mokytojui... The object of research: Disabled students’ integration at primary school. Conclusions of the research: 1. Special education and especially integrated education has good legal basis. Still there is a doubt if all these laws, declarations, programs and projects are functioning in the lives and education of disabled children. 2. The process of integration is not a onetime, but a complicated long lasting methodological process. It is concentrated on the person’s education and requires coordinated actions from many institutions, as well as, consciousness of the society itself. 3. The reality of the integrated education of special-needs children requires from the teacher the necessity of the new competences – ability to... [to full text]

Perspectives of disabled students on their experiences with disability support services in higher education in Thailand

Polrachom, Sucheera January 2017 (has links)
The increased number of disabled students in Higher Education (HE) means that they have increased opportunities for study. This means that universities in many countries, including Thailand, must provide Disability Support Services (DSS) for such students. The experiences of disabled students with DSS have been the subject of international research for many years. Although DSS were founded in universities in Thailand over a decade ago, there is little research on DSS and most of this research has focused on large universities in the capital city. This thesis, therefore, seeks to address this gap in the research by investigating the experiences of disabled students in 21 universities in all of the regions of Thailand that have DSS for disabled students attending university. The aim of this study is to explore and analyse the perspectives of disabled students on their experiences with DSS in HE in Thailand. The research objectives include the examination of disabled students’ conceptualisations of DSS, the exploration of disabled students’ experiences of access to DSS, and the exploration of their views on the advantages and disadvantages of DSS. To achieve these objectives, the study uses a mixed-method research approach formed of two stages. In the first stage, a questionnaire was conducted online via a web survey for disabled students with over 203 responses. In the second stage, the study adopted a qualitative approach and data was collected by means of individual in-depth interviews with four disabled students. The research finds that disabled students know about DSS in HE. Some disabled students were familiar with DSS before commencing their studies at university and others only knew about DSS after having commenced their studies at university. In terms of disabled students’ experiences of access to DSS, the findings show that most disabled students use DSS. In particular, they use DSS for help with induction, registration, and enrolment services. In terms of the exploration of disabled students’ experiences of access to DSS, this research shows that the 2 students undertook different procedures for accessing DSS. There are also different time lines for providing services to the students. Additionally, there is dissimilarity between non-open universities and open universities in terms of the services provided by the DSS centre, the learning system, the method of providing services, and the means of the implementation of the services. Regarding the advantages and disadvantages of using DSS, disabled students identified the advantages of DSS in various ways, specifically which DSS are useful for helping them access financial support from their university and for helping them learn and enjoy university life. In addition, some of the students did not experience the advantages of DSS as they did not use the services. They are able to learn without such assistance.

The specialized literature indicates a conceptual evolution concerning learning evaluation. Different from the exam, characteristic of the Traditional Pedagogy that was structured in 16th and 17th centuries, the concept of learning evaluation is an answer to a current demand, since the memorization and reproduction of information, by students, are not more necessary nowadays, when we need a procedural, critic and autonomous learning, related to the fast transformations of a society characterized by the easy access to information. The exam presents the following characteristics: it is punctual, qualifying, static, antidemocratic and authoritarian. It is harmful to any student, but it is worse to disabled students. Disabled students have legal rights to a specific evaluation, in agreement with their educational needs. Therefore, formative evaluation is considered the most appropriate model of learning evaluation at present for all students, especially for disabled students. In turn, the formative learning evaluation presents the following characteristics: it is procedural, diagnostic, dynamics, democratic, dialogued and inclusive overall. The main purpose of the current research is to accomplish an investigation about the practice of learning evaluation for disabled students registered in graduate and postgraduate level courses of Exact sciences in a Public Institute of Higher Education, in Fortaleza-CearÃ. Specifically, this study aimed: i) knowing the difficulties lived by students, professors and coordinators regarding learning evaluation for disabled students; ii) identifying the accessibility conditions concerning the practices of learning evaluation; iii) gathering contributions of students, professors and coordinators for an inclusive practice of learning evaluation. Thus, a qualitative research was accomplished, as a case study. The semi-structured interview and the semi-structured questionnaire were used as instruments for data collection. A content analysis of the collected data was accomplished. The sample was composed by: 7 disabled students; 4 graduate level courseâs coordinators and 7 professors; 18 subjects altogether. The results revealed a lack of an appropriate formation. Consequently, the professor do not know how to deal with disabled students and the traditional exam prevails. Suggestions were presented so that the professors of the institution were submitted to formation courses on the theme. It was also emphasized the need of an identification or an institutional registration of those students as an initial step of a better pedagogic service.

The learning evaluation for disabled students: a case study in a Public Institute of Higher Education in Fortaleza-CearÃ

The learning evaluation for disabled students is a pedagogic element of great importance; it can aid or raise difficulties for these studentsâ educational inclusion. The inclusive avaluation must be prospective, accomplishing a diagnosis of the disabled studentsâ emerging cognitive conditions. Therefore, it should not be limited to the verification of their acquired capacities. That type of superficial evaluation seems to be harmful, because it can decrease the expectations of the professionals of Education, especially the teacher or professor, regarding that specific group. The educational inclusion of disabled students becomes, as a result, a challenge, because the daily practices of all the teaching levels are still very influenced by traditional conceptions of evaluation that exclude those students with differentiated ways of learning and living. The main purpose of the current research is to accomplish an investigation about the practice of learning evaluation for disabled students registered in graduate and postgraduate level courses of humanities and educational areas in a Public Institute of Higher Education. The semi-structured interview and the questionnaire were used as instruments for data collection. A content analysis of the collected data was accomplished. The sample was composed by: nine disabled students; seven graduate level courseâs coordinators and nineteen professors; thirty five subjects altogether. The results revealed that the adaptations accomplished to evaluate the disabled student are still insufficient. The difficulties refer to an inadequate professor educational, to the lack of physical and structural adaptation and the absence of a larger discussion on the theme. The suggestions point to the importance of investment in material and human resources and the adaptation of physical spaces.
