Utvärdering av löstoppsborrars prestanda : Som ett led i Scanias standardiseringsarbete ienlighet med SPS / Evaluation of the performance of drills with indexable heads : As part of Scania's standardization work in accordance with SPS

Chen, Sebastian, Fredriksson, Disa January 2018 (has links)
Drilling is a common cutting process within manufacturing. Tool costs have great influence on thetotal manufacturing cost since a tool break down can cause an entire work piece to be scrapped.Through their constant work with improvements, Scania stays competitive with their high qualityproducts. This Master Thesis in Industrial Production and Management at KTH has evaluated aspecific type of drill with indexable heads with the purpose of investigating new brands. The Engine Manufacturing department (DM) at Scania in Södertälje requested this project. The taskwas initiated by obtaining knowledge about the tool that were to be investigated. Simultaneously ananalysis of the current state was performed where the drills at DM were mapped out withinformation regarding price, tool life, etc. The statistics were compiled and analysed to identify theeffect of an eventual standardisation. The evaluation consisted of practical experiments where seven different drills with a diameter of12,2 mm was tested under the same circumstances. The test was design in concurrence with affectedparts at DM and studies of adequate literature regarding drilling experiments. Four parameters weretested in addition to the tool life of the drills. These were axial force, tool wear, hole diameter andchips. The parameters were intended to be used for comparing and analysing in order to makeconclusions regarding the performance of the drills. The current state analysis showed that one brand represented 69% of the drills used at DM. Afterfinished drilling tests three out of seven drills managed to complete the test without tool breakdown. All drills produced chips that were acceptable and the measured diameters stayed within thegiven tolerances. The axial forces varied between the drill where Borr F had the lowest force and BorrA the highest. Borr E showed the best resistance against tool wear. From the results the drills thatwere recommended were Borr E, F and G because of their good performances with Borr E in the firstplace. Ultimately it was suggested to limit the amount of brands used at DM to achieve cost savingsregarding the tools.

[en] This paper presents a study of the dynamic behavior of a representative test bench of a real rotary drilling system, comprising a DC motor coupled to a very exible torsional system subjected to sources of friction which can induce self-excitation into two distinct regions of the system. The study includes the identification of parameter settings from the test bench by means of a series of experimental tests and characterization of friction, by obtaining the experimental curve of the friction coefficient as a function of the angular speed of the main rotor. The initial aim was to obtain a numerical model as simple as possible, capable of representing the test bench. Once obtained the numerical model, a series of numerical simulations were done, which allow an indirect characterization of the friction condition to which main rotors were subjected, starting only with the parameters measured at the drive. This study is of great importance for a qualitative understanding of the dynamics of the real drilling system, since today there is no fully reliable techniques to characterize the behavior of the column in the deep from surface data only.

[en] Oil prospecting uses an equipment called drillstring to drill the soil until the reservoir level. This equipment is a long column under rotation, composed by a sequence of connected drill-pipes and auxiliary equipment. The dynamics of this column is very complex because, under normal operational conditions, it is subjected to longitudinal, lateral, and torsional vibrations, which presents a nonlinear coupling. Also, this structure is subjected to friction and shocks effects due to the mechanical contacts between the pairs drill-bit/soil and drill-pipes/borehole. This work presents a mechanical-mathematical model to analyze a drillstring in horizontal configuration. This model uses a beam theory which accounts rotatory inertia, shear deformation, and the nonlinear coupling between three mechanisms of vibration. The model equations are discretized using the finite element method. The uncertainties in bit-rock interaction model parameters are taken into account through a parametric probabilistic approach, and the random parameters probability distributions are constructed by means of maximum entropy principle. Numerical simulations are conducted in order to characterize the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the structure, specially, the drill-bit. Dynamical phenomena inherently nonlinear, such as slick-slip and bit-bounce, are observed in the simulations, as well as shocks. A spectral analysis shows, surprisingly, that slick-slip and bit-bounce phenomena result from the lateral vibration mechanism, and that shock phenomena comes from the torsional vibration. Seeking to increase the efficiency of the drilling process, an optimization problem that aims to maximize the rate of penetration of the column into the soil, respecting its structural limits, is proposed and solved.

Krump, Ondřej January 2018 (has links)
Growing knowledge in the field of cognitive science can significantly improve the way we learn. Several methods and principles are being repeatedly confirmed by numerous studies as effective for learning. They include spaced repetition, test-enhanced learning, and desirable difficulty principle. With the continual spreading of ICT technologies, diverse software is being developed as well, some of which more and some of which less successfully employs the methods and principles outlined. Memrise, Purpose Games and Drill and Skill, web platforms which are examined in this thesis, belong to this software family. In the first phase, i conducted several interviews with teachers who were using Drill and Skill as part of their science teaching at elementary schools and a junior grammar school (all of them were teaching children approx. 11-15 years old). After this, i worked with a class from a grammar school (age around 16). i made several groups of educational games to help the students practice the topics studied in their biology lessons. Each group of games was reviewed during a group interview. Recordings from these interviews as well as from the interviews with the teachers were transcribed and these transcripts underwent qualitative analysis, which is an important part of the thesis. Drawing on all...

Análise de desempenho de diferentes leis de controle de vibrações torcionais em colunas de perfuração de poços de petróleo / Performance analysis of different control laws for torsional vibrations in oil wells drillstrings

Monteiro, Hugo Leonardo Salomão 09 April 2012 (has links)
The stick-slip phenomenon, in the process of drilling oil wells, due to the interaction between drill and rock formation can lead to large fluctuations in drill-bit angular velocity and, thus, cause irreparable damage to the process. In this work, the performance of control laws applied to the rotary table (responsible for moving the drill string) is analyzed, in order to reduce stick-slip and drill-bit angular velocity oscillations. The control laws implemented are based on a PI (Proportional-Integral) controller, for which the torque applied to the rotating table has components proportional and integral to table angular velocity with constant or variable WOB (Weight On Bit). For the drillstring, a finite element model with a linear interpolation was proposed. The torque on the drill-bit was modeled by a non-regularized Coulomb friction model, with parameters that were adjusted using empirical data proposed in literature. Several performance criteria were analyzed and it was observed that the minimization of the mean deviation of the drill-bit angular velocity relative to the target one would provide the best operating condition. Parametric analyses of proportional and integral control gains were performed, yielding level curves for the mean deviation of drill-bit angular velocity. From these curves, stability regions were defined in which the deviation is acceptable. These regions were observed to be wider for smaller values of WOB and higher values of target angular velocity and vice-versa. The inclusion of a controlled dynamic WOB reduced the levels of mean deviation of angular velocity, leading to improved stability regions for the drilling process.

The Comparative Performance of Micro- and Nano-topographically Complex Endosseous Implant Surfaces in Normoglycemic and Hyperglycemic Subjects

Bell, Spencer 11 July 2013 (has links)
Endosseous implants have notably high success rates, yet a small percentage of implants still fail for unidentified reasons. Recent literature points to hyperglycemia, resulting from untreated or undiagnosed diabetes, as a possible contraindication in an otherwise apparently healthy population. To investigate the effect of surface design on peri-implant healing in the presence of hyperglycemia, STZ-treated rats were implanted with custom rectangular implants of two surface topographies: grit blasted (GB) and grit-blast with a calcium phosphate nanotopography (GB-DCD). Tensile testing was conducted at 5, 7, and 9 days post-operative. Results demonstrated hyperglycemia to delay early stages of the peri-implant healing. Contact osteogenesis was increased along the GB-DCD surface, even in an environment of uncontrolled hyperglycemia, and the GB-DCD surface outperformed the GB surface in both healthy and hyperglycemic animals, showing peri-implant bone matured more rapidly on nanotopographically complex surfaces, even in the presence of uncontrolled hyperglycemia.

The soil-cement bricks are one of the alternatives to masonry construction. These elements, after a short curing period, provide compressive strength similar to that of solid bricks and ceramic blocks, and the higher the resistance the higher the amount of cement used. We used the soil from the city of S?o Jos? do Mipibu / RN, the banks of the River Baldun, cement CPIIZ-32 and residue of drill cuttings from oil wells drilling onshore wells in the town of Mossley, RN, provided Petrobras. To determine the optimum mix, we studied the inclusion of different residues (100%, 80%, 70%, 60% and 50%) where 15 bodies were made of the test piece. The assessment was made of bricks made from simple compression tests, mass loss by immersion and water absorption. The experimental results proved the efficiency and high utilization of the waste from the drilling of oil wells, making the brick-cement-soil residue with a higher strength and lower water absorption. The best result in terms of mechanical strength and water absorption for the ternary mixture was 10% soil, 14% cement and 80% residue. No. of bitstreams: 1 MoacirGS_TESE.pdf: 4771867 bytes, checksum: f93165e08f62a97944b6eed01b488995 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-02-10 / Among the industries, those that produce ceramic porcelain for use in construction industry and oil, during the exploration and production period, play an important role in the production of waste. Much research has been carried out both by academia and the productive sector, sometimes reintroducing them in the same production line that generated them, sometimes in areas unrelated to their generation, as in the production of concrete and mortar for the construction, for example, but each one in an isolated way. In this research, the aim is to study the combined incorporation of the waste drill cuttings of oil well and the residue of the polishing of porcelain, generated in the final stage of finishing of this product in a clay matrix, for the production of red pottery, specifically bricks, ceramic blocks and tiles. The clay comes from the municipality of S?o Gon?alo, RN, the drilling waste is from the Natal basin, in Rio Grande do Norte, and the residue of the polishing proceeds from a ceramic porcelain of the State of Para?ba. For this purpose, we used a mixture of a plastic clay with a non-plastic, in a ratio of 50% each, settling formulations with the addition of these two residues in this clay matrix. In the formulations, both residues were incorporated with a minimum percentage of 2.5% and maximum of 12.5%, varying from 2.5% each, in each formulation, which the sum of the waste be no more than 15%. It should be noted that the residue of the polishing of ceramic porcelain is a IIa class (not inert). The materials were characterized by XRF, XRD, TG, DTA, laser granulometry and the plasticity index. The technological properties of water absorption, apparent porosity, linear shrinkage of burning, flexural tensile strength and bulk density were evaluated after the sintering of the pieces to 850 ?C, 950 ?C and 1050 ?C, with a burning time of 3 hr, 3 hr and 30 minutes, and 3 hr and 50 minutes, respectively, with a heating rate of 10 ?C/minute, for all formulations and landing of 30 minutes. To better understand the influence of each residue and temperature on the evaluated properties, we used the factorial planning and its surfaces of response for the interpretation of the results. It was found that the temperature has no statistical significance at a 95% of reliability level in flexural tensile strength and that it decreases the water absorption and the porosity, but increases the shrinkage and the bulk density. The results showed the feasibility of the desired incorporation, but adjusting the temperature to each product and formulation, and that the temperatures of 850 ?C and 950 ?C were the one that responded to the largest number of formulations / A ind?stria de produ??o de porcelanatos para uso na constru??o civil e a do petr?leo, na fase de explora??o e produ??o, exercem um papel importante na produ??o de res?duos.

Développement de portes-outils, d'outils et de modèles pour la maîtrise du perçage vibratoire / Development of tool holders, tools and models for control of self-sustained vibration drilling

Naisson, Pierre 06 September 2011 (has links)
Self-sustained vibration drilling offers the technological breakthrough needed to increase the performance of deep drilling. A special tool holder is designed to allow axial vibration, and comes as a spring mass system, whose characteristics are identified by the use of the theory of stability lobes. Identification of the geometric characteristics of an optimal tool requires the characterization of tribological aspects, mechanical properties of the machined material, and the definition of a proper edge preparation. Finally, this process is driven by the energy of the cut, and two types of effort have been identified. The Edge-Material-Pair Method is based on the discretization of the drilling thrust force during penetration phase, while the analytical approach can predict forces from a cut pattern identified from oblique cutting tests.
