: En backcasting studie med sex scenarion för en hållbar energianvändning i den svenska bostads- och servicesektorn / What does it take for a halved energy use in Sweden’s dwellings to the year 2050?

Olson, Petter January 2017 (has links)
In Sweden, the dwelling and service sector accounts for approximately 40 percent of the total energy use. Up until 2012, the parliament had a specific goal to reduce the energy use by half in the sector to 2050. While waiting for a new goal to be set however, the parliament states that the implication of the goal remains. The energy use shall be reduced by half before the year 2050. This report is a back-casting study that has the aim to analyze what it takes to reach the goal by focusing on four main measures; new construction, reconstruction, gradual improvement and more efficient use of the heated areas in residential buildings. Six scenarios have been set up, one for every main measure and two scenarios that combine the other four. The result shows what path might be best to choose and that extensive and rapid transformationis necessary to reach the goal. These contributions affect all the involved actors as well as stakeholders on all the different levels of society. Resulting reductions in carbon dioxide emissionsdue to the decrease in energy use have also been calculated. The potential reduction can become significant in size and contribute to making Sweden a pioneer in the transformation to asustainable society.

Commemorating the a(s)telier

Ahlqvist, Emelie January 2020 (has links)
This is a project on the topic of living and working and it consists of two parts. The first is a research thesis analyzing the development of the atelier typology from the 1860s until today. The second part is a proposal for a new architectural typology, that combines spaces for dwelling with those of production and labor. The project is set in Stockholm. My study shows a gradual loss of the concept of the atelier as a combined/multifaceted typology. Throughout the years studied, the place to produce has gradually separated itself from both the space of dwelling and the place of consumption. My interest lies in speculating on bringing them together again, in my proposal for a new architectural typology; the ’super villa garage’. To briefly conclude, I here identify the atelier as a place of convergence between cultural production and domestic life. A space that blurs the line between the two spheres and challenges the division of dwelling and labor. As a typology that shifts the boundaries between the private, the communal, and the public I believe that it has the potential to generate new ways of living and working, as well as give new possibilities for interaction and integration with local contexts.

Identification, Examination and Management of Risk Factors behind Dwelling Fires in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: A Managerial and Policy Perspective

Al-Sharabi, Faisal January 2013 (has links)
Fire incidents are a central issue in Saudi civil defence. Despite detailed regulation concerning firefighting equipment dealing with dwelling fires, fires occur frequently. Globally, research on dwelling fire safety is relatively new. Most studies focus on human factors, incidence and causal issues. Few studies examine management or policy-making perspectives towards managing these individual agents. Thus, a detailed study on understanding the management of these factors for dwelling fires is long overdue. The study uses an inductive approach to investigate key management issues in reducing dwelling fires in Saudi Arabia. This qualitative study consisted of twelve indepth semi-structured interviews and four focus groups with senior managers of the Civil Defence Division dealing with fire safety. A sustainability-based framework is developed to map the critical issues in generating a long-term planning solution to policy and management of fire hazard and risk in Saudi Arabia. Critical drivers of this sustainability approach are good management, regulation, governance practices: especially accountability and transparency; reduction of tribalism, bureaucracy, and burns unit efficiency. However, given the modern environment of communications, information technology and communications, and in particular public education, are viewed as important mediators between drivers and sustainability. The critical role of knowledge generation is also positioned as a mediator. The framework proposed is a paradigm shift from merely managing fire incidents on a case by case basis to a proactive risk reduction strategy. This represents an original solution to managing fire hazards at a national level and an important contribution to the fire management literature.

First archaeobotanical plant macro-remain analysis from the Middle Bronze Age wetland settlement of Viverone (Viverone “Emissario” Project: campaign Viv16)

Herbig, C., Jennings, Benjamin R. January 2019 (has links)
Yes / The first archaeobotanical studies of the Middle Bronze Age lakeshore settlement demonstrate the enormous potential of this site for appropriate analyses. On the basis of the well-preserved layers a multitude of plant remains and wide diversity of species are present at this site. Evidence of emmer, spelt, tetraploid naked wheat, hulled barley, peas and broad beans conforms to the basic cultural crop spectrum of the Middle Bronze Age. The wild plants originate from various locations in the direct vicinity and allow an insight into the landscape at that time. Numerous wild plants were intentionally used by the settlers. Fruits gathered include cornelian cherries, hazelnuts, crab apples and a diversity of berries. Furthermore, archaeobotanical analyses support observations already made on site that within the settlement there are at least two functionally different areas. While in section 50/51 the layers contain the remains of daily food preparation, section 7 indicates a link to animal fodder. / National Geographic

Energy audit of a century-old single-family house in Sweden

González Gutiérrez, Estíbaliz, Torras Ribera, David January 2024 (has links)
The Swedish residential sector uses 140 TWh of energy, making the residential sector the largest energy user. The Swedish single-family houses (SFHs) are responsible for 12 % of the final energy use. From those dwellings, there are 417 909 single-family houses built before 1930.On the basis of the above information, the Swedish residential building stock is considered to be of relatively high age. Due to this situation, there is a great potential for the implementation of energy saving measures. This work consists in a study case of a single-family house (SFH) built in Stråtjära which uses electricity and wood as energy carrier, the aim in this dwelling is to propose measures to reduce energy expenditure proposing cost-effective measures and reaching a minimum label of bronze category in the Miljöbyggnad energy use indicators. At first, a literature review was performed to observe the renovation strategies previously applied in similar studies. A quantitative and empirical approach was completed, where energy data from the bills of 2023-2024 together with on-site data collection were combined as a way to determine the energy entering and leaving the dwelling. The research was conducted with the help of the IDA ICE energy simulation program, to monitor the energy and ventilation performance of the dwelling. The results obtained from the simulation and hand calculations indicated that there was room to improve the property. Namely, the calculations concluded that the ventilation and the primary energy number need to be improved to meet the Swedish building regulations. Furthermore, the installation of photovoltaic (PV) modules to meet part of the electricity demand could helped to improve the energy situation. Finally, the reduction of electricity use was focused on the efficient use of electricity, avoiding the electricity consumption in unused rooms, such as the guest room, and the reduction of heat/thermal losses through the insulation of the envelop. The methodology used consisted of two different scenarios, one that meets the objectives of monetary savings and economic viability and the other that seeks to comply with the requirements imposed by the Swedish authorities in terms of energy efficiency.

Roux, Alwyn Petrus January 2015 (has links)
This thesis compares the later poetry of Breyten Breytenbach and Lucebert from the phenomenological approach of landscape as dwelling. The metaphor of landscape as dwelling is derived from the art philosophy of Martin Heidegger, which emphasises the importance of truth as aletheia (or “disclosure”), the cultural geography of John Wylie, which illuminates the notion of landscape as tension, and the anthropology of Tim Ingold with reference to the dwelling perspective, adopted from Heidegger’s philosophy on dwelling. The thesis destructs the Cartesian idea of landscape, which relates to the constructivist description of landscape as a way of seeing. The destructive reading shows that mortals’ dwelling on earth is inherently part of the landscape, which means that landscape opens up as an expression of Dasein’s fundamental being-in-the-world, rather than a scene looked upon from afar. Furthermore, this thesis uses Ingold’s distinction between the landscape and the taskscape (Ingold, 2000:195), and Heidegger’s notion of the fourfold (Heidegger, 1989:172), to make a desctructive reading of the poets’ work, with specific reference to William Spanos’s destructive criticism. It investigates a number of poems from Breytenbach’s Nine landscapes of our time bequeathed to a beloved (Nege landskappe van ons tye bemaak aan ʼn beminde, 1993), Paper flower (Papierblom, 1998), The wind-catcher (Die windvanger, 2007), The principle of dust (Die beginsel van stof, 2011) and Catalects (Katalekte, 2012), and Lucebert’s Harvests in the roaming garden (Oogsten in de dwaaltuin, 1981), The swamp rider from paradise (De moerasruiter uit het paradijs, 1982), Console the hysterical robot (Troost de hysterische robot, 1989), Of the malt-like profligate (Van de maltentige losbol, 1993) and Of the motionless agitator (Van de roerloze woelgeest, 1994). The analyses focus specifically on the destruction of the traditional landscape idea by emphasising Dasein’s everyday activities, and his/her dis-covering approach toward the elements of the fourfold. The thesis concludes with a comparison of the work of the poets in terms of their destruction of the notion of landscape, the temporality of the taskscape, the taskscape as an ensemble of tasks, and a systematic reading of dwelling. / PhD (Afrikaans en Nederlands), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015

The Policy Analysis of the Old Building Inspection Plan

Liao, Pei Chun Unknown Date (has links)
Physical examination is beneficial to disease prevention and health promotion. By the old building inspection plan, residents can inspect building environment, prevent the deterioration of the building, and cure disease in an appropriate way. 0206 earthquake caused many deaths, which has aroused the widespread social concern on building safety. According to the official statistics, there are 885,340 housing units in Taipei, about 78.51% of which are over 20 years old, about 54.36% of which are five-storey building or below. It is indicated that older building threaten public safety in Taipei. Hence, it is necessary and urgent to inspect ageing building. The old building inspection plan was held in 2013, which are a Taiwan's first policy. The objectives of this paper are to inspect whether the old building inspection can influence the aspiration of residents improve the building environment, and to examine the effects of the old building inspection plan. The samples of the study include: (1) the ageing buildings which have been involved in the old building inspection plan from 2013 to 2014;(2) the condominiums of 20 years old or above. At first, this paper aims to examine the effects of the old building inspection plan on residents' willingness, then discuss the probability on environment improving before and after joining the program. Finally, we calculate the effectiveness of policy. Empirical results demonstrate that residents who have been involved the plan are more willing to improve the environment. Building equipment and exterior walls performance are worse, residents are more willing to transform the environment. Finally, tremendous effect could be obtained by adding little cost under the support of current policy. It clearly showed that the old building inspection plan should be consistently carried on.

Två rum och kök : En jämförande studie om medeltida bokultur på Gotlands landsbygd / Two rooms and a kitchem : A comparative study about medieval dwelling culture on the gotlandic countryside

Eriksson, Albin January 2016 (has links)
Medieval dwelling houses of a similar type have been documented on Gotland in archaeological investigations. They all have common planning, a rectangular house foundation divided into two rooms and a square-shaped fireplace which is located in one of the corners. In this study the aim is to find out when this type of building was first introduced on Gotland as well as why it was adopted. Another aim is to compare the gotlandic houses with similar buildings from other places in Scandinavia? The method used to answer these questions consists of a comparison between visually similar houses from Gotland and the mainland based on orientation, dimensions, construction and dating. The comparison shows that the majority of the foundations investigated frequently are oriented west east, that the average dimensions are approximately 8 × 6 m and that the houses approximately can be dated between the 12th and 13th century.

Interacting effects of forest edge, tree diversity and forest stratum on the diversity of plants and arthropods in Germany’s largest deciduous forest

Normann, Claudia 27 April 2015 (has links)
