TELEVISED MODELLING AND STRATEGIC KNOWLEDGE TRAINING IN BEHAVIORAL CONSULTATION INTERVIEWING

A program for the training of graduate student consultants in behavioral interviewing skills is presented. The initial interview of behavioral consultation, problem identification, was taught. The training program involved a videotape interview between a consultant and consultee in which appropriate verbalizations specific to the problem identification interview were modeled and/or specific problem identification objectives were narrated. Sixty graduate student consultants were trained using either or both of these techniques. The consultants later had the opportunity to role-play a problem identification interview to demonstrate the consultation skills acquired through observation of the modeling and/or the narrated instructions. This role-played interview was audio-recorded and the verbalized statements coded on the Consultation Analysis Record, a technique in which independent verbalized statements are coded on four categories. These coded statements were statistically analyzed in order to determine the effectiveness of the training program in training the problem identification interview. The training program was evaluated using a multivariate analysis of variance design. Results of the study indicated that verbal skills specific to problem identification interview were acquired when modeled training alone was used. No skills acquisition resulted in the instruction only or the modeling plus instruction training conditions. The implications of this study for the training of psychologists in behavioral consultation are discussed. This investigation lent support for the use of modeling as a training technique and the Consultation Analysis Record as a systematic method of the behavioral assessment of interviewing skills.

Supporting Preschool Teachers’ Use Of Positive Behavior Strategies Through Conjoint Behavioral Consultation

The evidence clearly indicates that, not only is the learning process affected by many factors including students’ mental health and social-emotional learning (SEL), but also zero tolerance methods of managing students’ problem behaviors are largely ineffective. This dissertation introduces a suggested model for supporting educators’ efforts in the implementation and sustainability of SEL programs using a response-to-intervention (RTI) model for educators. Additionally, the current study examined the effects of conjoint behavioral consultation (CBC) on (a) the role of teachers’ classroom practices, (b) the home-school partnership, and (c) the relationship these two factors have on young children’s challenging behaviors. Participants in this study were four triads, each consisting of one pre-k teacher, one preschool student with challenging behaviors, and one set of preschool students’ parents from a suburban county in the southeast. Three dependent variables were measured in this study: (1) teachers’ target behaviors were measured using direct observation; (2) students’ target behaviors were measured using direct observation (i.e., daily by teachers and parents) and ratings on the Social Skills Improvement System Rating Scale (SSIS-RS; Elliott & Gresham, 2008); and (3) the impact of the intervention on the home-school relationship was measured both pre- and post-intervention using the Parent-Teacher Relationship Scale - II (PTRS-II; Vickers & Minke, 1995). The independent variable was a multi-component intervention package that incorporated the four stages of CBC (Sheridan & Kratochwill, 2010) with a social skills intervention plan. A relationship was established between the intervention and teachers’ use of select positive behavior support (PBS) strategies. Furthermore, results indicated that the intervention package was effective in improving all students’ challenging behaviors in the school setting and for three of the four students challenging behaviors in the home setting. Finally, results from the PTRS-II indicated that parents and teachers’ perceptions of the home-school relationship actually declined. However, this outcome was unexpected because the anecdotal reactions from the participants throughout this study were very positive. Ratings on the social validity of the intervention as measured by the Treatment Evaluation Inventory – Short Form (TEI-SF; Kelley, Heffer, Gresham, & Elliott, 1989) were high.

Darbo tarybų įtaka darbuotojų socializacijai / The influence of works councils on employees’ socialization

Skirtingai nei daugelyje ES šalių, Lietuvoje darbuotojų atstovavimas bei dalyvavimas priimant sprendimus iki šiol buvo itin žemas. 2004 metais priėmus Darbo tarybų įstatymą buvo sudarytos didesnės galimybės Lietuvos dirbančiųjų socializacijai todėl buvo svarbu įvertinti, kaip darbuotojai pasinaudojo jiems suteiktomis teisėmis. Šio magistro darbo objektas – darbo tarybos ir jų veikla Lietuvoje; hipotezė – darbo tarybos skatina darbuotojų socializaciją. Darbo tikslas – įvertinti darbo tarybų paplitimą Lietuvoje bei jų įtaką darbuotojų socializacijai. Siekiant užsibrėžto tikslo buvo atlikta teorinės literatūros analizė bei Lietuvos įmonių, kuriose yra išrinktos darbo tarybos, darbuotojų bei darbo tarybų narių apklausa. Gauti rezultatai leido patvirtinti iškeltą hipotezę - daugelyje įmonių, kuriose buvo išrinktos darbo tarybos, buvo pasirašytos kolektyvinės sutartys arba vyko derybos dėl jų pasirašymo. Šių įmonių darbuotojai gauna reikiamą informaciją, darbdavys konsultuojasi su jais priimant sprendimus. Pagrindiniai darbo siūlymai susijęs su didesnio informuotumo apie darbo tarybų veiklą poreikiu visais - visuomenės, įmonės, darbo tarybos - lygmenimis. / Differently than in other EU countries, the level of employees’ socialization, i.e. employees’ representation and participation in enterprise level decision-making, in Lithuania is exceptionally low. In 2004 the Law on Works Councils was adopted and therefore the conditions for better employees’ socialization were created. The aim of this work is to evaluate how employees used opportunities provided by the Law, i.e. to measure the prevalence of works councils in Lithuania as well as their impact for employees’ socialization. The object of this work is works councils and their activities in Lithuania, the main hypothesis – works councils foster employees’ socialization. In order to evaluate the influence of works councils on employees’ socialization the theoretical as well as historical aspects of employees’ participation were analysed and survey of Lithuanian enterprises, employees and works councils’ members were carried out. The results achieved showed that on average 4% of Lithuanian enterprises have works councils elected and this share increases with the size of enterprise. The hypothesis raised was confirmed – in the most enterprises with works councils the collective agreements were signed (or collective bargaining took place), employees are consulted and receive all the information necessary to participate in decision making. Aboriginal participation in mineral development : environmental assessment and impact and benefit agreements

In a mineral development scenario, Aboriginal groups rely heavily on Environmental Assessment (EA) and Impact and Benefit Agreements (IBAs) to address their interests and concerns. While EA and IBAs are separate processes – EA is legislated and informed by the Crown, and IBAs operate in the realm of private contract law – together, the two are ostensibly part of a parallel process that connect the Aboriginal group(s), Government and the mining proponent. Indisputably, IBAs support a more inclusive development based on consultation, partnership and participation. IBAs and EA have the potential to enhance Aboriginal involvement in mineral development and positively influence the design and planning of the mine. This thesis examines the Tahltan Nation’s involvement and participation in the Galore Creek Project in British Columbia, and demonstrates the challenges and opportunities that arose during the EA and IBA process. It uses key informant interviews to gain multiple perspectives – from the proponent, Tahltan, and Government, to understand how the Tahltan utilized the EA and IBA to participate in the mineral development.

Profesijos pasirinkimas yra viena aktualiausių problemų, nuo kurios tinkamo sprendimo priklauso žmogaus asmeninė gerovė. Todėl labai svarbu, kad jau pats pirmasis moksleivio apsisprendimas būtų sąmoningas, tikslingas, kad jaunuolis suprastų, jog adaptacija darbo pasaulyje ir asmenybės vidinė harmonija priklauso nuo tinkamo apsisprendimo. Dabar, kai vis labiau integruojamės į Europos Sąjungą, jaunimui susidaro vis didesnės galimybės laisvai pasirinkti profesiją, tačiau tuo pačiu padidėja jaunimo individualios kompetencijos ir asmeninės atsakomybės reikšmė. V.Stanišauskienė, straipsnyje „ Ugdymas karjerai mokykloje: kaip padėti moksleiviui įgyti šiuolaikinę karjeros kompetenciją“ teigia, kad mokytojui reikalinga šiuolaikinė karjeros kompetencija, įgalinanti vystyti savąją karjerą, ir ugdymo karjerai kompetenciją, apibrėžiama kaip nuostatų, žinių, gebėjimų, būtinų ugdant moksleivius karjerai, sistema. Profesinis orientavimas šiuolaikinėmis kaitos sąlygomis įgyja vis didesnę reikšmę, nes sparčiai plėtojantis rinkos santykiams, itin reikalingi tampa verslo specialistai, didėja kvalifikuotų specialistų, verslo žinovų poreikis. Tačiau mokykla vis dar nepakankamai orientuoja mokinius profesijoms. Darbe aptariami psichologiniai pedagoginiai profesinio orientavimo pagrindai, profesinio orientavimo vaidmuo ugdymo karjerai procese. Taip pat nagrinėjamas profesijos bei karjeros pasirinkimo galimybių ugdymas bendrojo lavinimo mokyklose, analizuojamos aukštesniųjų klasių moksleivių profesinio orientavimo karjerai prielaidos bei galimybės gimnazijose. Pastebima tendencija, jog profesinio orientavimo sistema gimnazijose gerėja: moksleiviai informuojami apie profesijas, organizuojami profesinio orientavimo renginai, vykdomos individualios konsultacijos. Siekiant nustatyti profesinio orientavimo būklę bendrojo lavinimo mokyklose, darbe nagrinėjamas Anykščių rajono gimnazijose besimokančių aukštesniųjų klasių moksleivių bei jų tėvų požiūris į gimnazijose vykdomą profesinį orientavimą. / Vocational guidance in the conditions of modern world becomes more important than ever before. As the market intercourse develops rapidly, the demand of business people, qualified specialists and trade proficients is rising. However, school does not orient the students enough towards professions. This paper provides with psychological and pedagogical basics of carrers counseling and unfolds the role of vocational guidance in the process of training carrer. The study also reveals the choice of possibilities of career and profession education in a comprehensive school, analyses the assumption and chances to orient senior pupils studying in gymnasiums towards careers counseling. The results show that the system of vocational guidance in gymnasiums is getting better as the students are informed about professions, the events of careers counseling are organised and individual guidance is held. The study also helped to ascertain the conditions of vocational guidance in comprehensive schools. The paper analyses the attitude of parents’ and their children, who study in senior classes in the gymnasiums of Anyksciai district, towards the vocational guidance handed in gymnasiums.

Žmogaus teisės – esminė šiuolaikinės civilizacijos vertybė. Viena iš tokių vertybių yra darbuotojų teisė į informavimą ir konsultavimą grupės darbuotojų atleidimo atveju. Darbuotojų teisė į informavimą ir konsultavimą atleidimo atveju susijusi ir su socialinėmis, ekonominėmis asmens teisėmis, todėl informavimas, konsultavimas privalo būti įgyvendinami laiku kaip turintys įtakos užimtumo politikai. Darbuotojų teisė į informavimą ir konsultavimą grupės darbuotojų atleidimo atveju yra reglamentuota tiek nacionaliniu lygiu (LR DK, Lietuvos Respublikos užimtumo rėmimo įstatymas ir kt.), tiek tarptautiniu lygiu (Tarybos direktyva 98/59/EB, TDO konvencija Nr. 158 „Dėl darbo sutarties nutraukimo“, Tarybos direktyva 2001/23/EB ir kt.). The right to information and consultation on discharge from employment is regulated on national level (Labour Code of the Republic of Lithuania, Law of the employement promotion of the Republic of Lithuania, etc.) and international level (Council directive 98/59/EB, Convention of International Labour Organization No. 158 “On breaking work contract”, Council directive 2001/23/EB, etc) The present work seeks to analyze and determine the right to information and consultation on discharge from employment established by laws and other legal acts. The present work is based on Lithuanian and foreign scientific literature, various legal acts, practice of courts, and information presented in on-line legal systems.

Pour une démocratisation des prises de décisions en matière environnementale : une étude de cas sur les OGM

L'introduction des OGM dans le domaine agricole soulève diverses préoccupations. Qu'il s'agisse du type d'agriculture ou des aliments que nous privilégions pour l'avenir, de la sauvegarde des écosystèmes et des patrimoines culturels, des questions de justice, d'équité et d'éthique, les choix de société que suscitent les OGM sont nombreux. Notre argumentation est à l'effet que, seul un processus démocratique offrant aux citoyens la possibilité d'exprimer leurs préoccupations, commentaires et opinions sur le développement des aliments transgéniques est en mesure de permettre une prise de décision éclairée des autorités quant à ces choix de société. Les gouvernements de nombreux pays démontrent par ailleurs leur volonté d'ouvrir le dialogue avec le grand public sur les enjeux que suscitent ces nouvelles technologies. Notre étude analyse différents modèles de participation du public aux décisions portant sur les OGM au sein de trois pays, la France, la Suisse et le Canada. Nous avons organisé ces modèles en les classant sous trois rubriques : les instruments de la démocratie directe, l'implication de membres de la société dans les processus d'évaluation, les débats publics. Nous constatons alors que malgré les efforts des autorités pour démocratiser les prises de décisions en cette matière, de nombreux facteurs, tels la logique technicienne dans laquelle s'inscrivent les décisions ainsi que les lacunes inhérentes au régime représentatif, ne permettent pas une véritable prise en compte de l'opinion des citoyens. Il s'agit donc de s'interroger sur la pertinence et l'opportunité d'utiliser le référendum afin de traiter des questions associées aux OGM. / The introduction of GMOs into agri-business has brought forth many public concems, such as the type of agriculture or the kind of foods we choose for our future, the safekeeping of our ecosystems and our cultural heritage, or matters of justice linked to ethics and equity. Our argumentation is that only a democratic process that offers to the citizens the possibility to express their views and concems on the development of GMOs will allow the authorities to make enlightened decisions on these matters. Moreover, many govemments have already shown interest in opening communication lines with the general public on the stakes created by these new technologies. This study analyzes different forms of public participation in the decision-making process conceming GMOs in three different countries, France, Switzerland and Canada. These models have been divided into three categories : the instruments of direct democracy, participation of different members of society in the evaluation processes, and public debates. We note that in spite of the efforts of the govemments to democratize decisionmaking in these matters, many factors such as technical reasoning into which decisions are inscribed as weIl as the inherent gaps of the representative model, prevent from taking the opinions of citizens into consideration.
