Toward the Healing of Memories and Changing of Perceptions: Churches in Serbia and Germany in Dialogue

Ilic, Angela Valeria January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation examines a series of interchurch consultations that took place between 1999 and 2009 with the participation of the Evangelical Church in Germany, the Roman Catholic German Bishops' Conference and the Serbian Orthodox Church. The Protestant-Catholic-Orthodox ecumenical encounters began in the immediate aftermath of the Kosovo crisis, and aimed to support Serbia's democratization and European integration. At a total of nine meetings, delegates from the participating churches, together with politicians, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and scholars from various fields, discussed the role of churches and religion in the two countries. The meetings provided a forum for exchanging knowledge and addressing the challenges confronting the churches and their social organizations. Through lectures, discussions, and meetings in working groups, the consultations focused on theological, legal, political, and social topics, such as church and state relations in Serbia, the role of churches in secularized society, Serbia's relationship to the rest of Europe, reconciliation, and the healing of memories. Focusing on the content and the outcomes of the consultations, the author places them into the broader ecumenical, social and political context in which they took place. All available texts from the consultations are studied through the lens of critical discourse analysis. In addition, in-depth qualitative interviews are conducted with key initiators, organizers and participants of the consultations from the three primary participating churches. The dissertation also interacts with the existing theoretical framework for ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, theories of secularization and the sociology of religion in Europe, as well as nationalism and memory studies. The Serbian-German consultations represent a unique, hybrid form of interchurch contact. The author argues that existing theories of ecumenical and interreligious dialogue should be reconsidered to include such meetings, which represent a broadened understanding of dialogue focused on both theoretical and practical aspects of life. Furthermore, the consultations may serve as a potential blueprint for similar future encounters in post-conflict societies and in countries undergoing political transition. / Religion

A EUCARISTIA NO ECUMENISMO ENTRE AS IGREJAS DO CONSELHO NACIONAL DE IGREJAS CRISTÃS DO BRASIL (CONIC) / The Eucharist in the ecumenism of national council of Christian churches of Brazil (Conic).

However, the Eucharist and symbolisms treated not as separated theme but in the ecumenical context. Once ecumenism and its different ramifications are too vast, the concentration will be only around the churches that are members of National council of Christian churches of Brazil (CONIC). Here are the names of the churches that are members of CONIC; The Roman Catholic church, Catholic Orthodox church of Sirian, The reformed Christian Church, Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil, Evangelical church of Lutheran Confession of Brazil and the Presbyterian United Church. Eucharist is the center of Christian faith surviving in the midst of plurality of believes in Brazil. Will it be possible one day seeing the Christians celebrating the Lord s Supper around one altar? According to one of the persons we interviewed, when this type of celebration happens, then it will not be called anymore the ecumenical celebration but fulfillment of the Jesus dreams. May they all be one, just as you, father, you are in me and I am in you . / O ponto central deste trabalho é a eucaristia e o simbolismo.

Proposes an alternative process in leading people to maturity in open criticism, in a process which leads to learning more pleasurable. The starting point is the ecumenical attitude with the corner stone of the constitutional construction of religious freedom and Religious Education, which is a mere consequence of religious freedom. The work concludes that the nonproselytism promotes a civilization through social harmony.

Abstract A Problem to Every Solution The Corrymeela Community, René Girard and the ambiguous pluralism The main purpose of this study is to examine how Girard´s ideas of society, culture and religion have become part of the reflexion in the praxis of Corrymeela Community through the work of Roel Kaptein and how this praxis can shed light over the work with dissonances of faith and values in education in RE, Social Studies and other subjects. In earlier publications I have studied how dissonances of faith and values can be understood in educational settings and in connection with issues of interreligious dialogue. The extensive discussion of how differences in culture, religion and value in a pluralistic society are to be analysed and treated in pedagogical reflexion seems to increasingly occupy actors in different parts of the educational system. It is obvious that these issues also are brought into focus as an important field of research. My main interest in this paper is to study how a reconciliation group in the middle of the conflict in Northern Ireland has developed a view of conflict reason and conflict resolution under the influence of the French researcher René Girard and what aspects of this study that can improve the reflection over pluralism and dissonances of faith and values in everyday praxis in education. For a period of more than a decade I have been in contact with actors in the peace process in Northern Ireland in connection to different educational projects. The attempts to analyse the different aspects of ”The Troubles” and the efforts to find ways out of conflicts and civil war are many and the literature on subjects related to these tragic history of social, cultural and religious conflicts is difficult to survey. An interesting and continuing reflexion on conflicts in relation to dissonances of faith and value has been carried out by the ecumenical group “Corrymeela Community”. It has its main centre in Belfast and the members are mainly lay people in different professions. The community is dispersed but meet regularly in the centre of Belfast or in a centre in Ballycastle up at the northern coast. René Girard is a member of the French Academy. In his books that touch upon Anthropology, Literature Theory, Philosophy and Theology he defends a hypotheses about “ Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World”, as the title reads of one of his books. The conflicts among men must be understood in the light of a elaborated mimesis-theory, where the desire to acquire what the Other desires leads to rivalry and scapegoating. Cultures arise through rules and rituals as a way of structuring social life and thereby avoid the otherwise inevitable crises that lead to repeated scapegoating of individuals or groups. From analysing myths, literature of fiction and biblical texts he has developed the hypotheses to illuminate how conflicts are related to culture and religion.

The Religious Working Group (WG) was created by the State Programme of STD/AIDS in Sao Paulo to be an area in which the various religious traditions could talk and think about prevention strategies with the technical staff responsible for the health of the population. The booklet was published by public funds under the supervision of professionals in the Reference and Training Centre STD/AIDS . Through multipliers workshops for the public of various churches, the "AIDS and the Churches" has been used as a pedagogical tool for orientation and training. We explore the contents of this material, by analysing the most relevant issues, such as their goals and methodology. We emphasize the meaning of the term "therapeutic community" suggested by the ecumenical organisation, as a model of reception and care to people living with HIV/AIDS. We examine how the issues of AIDS, Sexuality and Dogma are related in the publication. We also assess which praxis used by Koinonia in the application of the booklet in the workshops for the multipliers. In the final considerations, we emphasize the cooperation between the State and Koinonia, through the publication of the booklet "AIDS and the Churches: A Call to Action," to overcome stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV / AIDS.

VICTOR LUIS BARROSO NASCIMENTO 30 July 2018 (has links)
[en] The recent history of Mathematical Logic was marked by some conficts between different philosophical positions, each trying to contextualize mathematical activity from its own analytical viewpoint and, with this, trying to conquer the foundational podium of the formal sciences for itself. Such discussions, lasting enough to remain without a solution, were strongly impacted by the semantical appropriation of some technical results obtained in the field of proof theory, which redefined the relation between the classical and intuitionistic approaches to mathematics. In this context, the present dissertation aims to describe the emergent literature about the integration of different logical and mathematical systems (nicknamed logical ecumenism by Dag Prawitz), in addition to investigating some impacts that those formal changes could have on the philosophical conceptions of some mathematical theories. In the introductory chapter, we have outlined a general overview of this new ecumenical proposal and analysed in greater depht the conflicts between Classical, Intuitionistic and Minimal logic, considered by many as one of the most influent on the contemporary literature. In the second chapter, this work provides an original contribution to the literature by creating a new ecumenical approach, in addition to proving some equivalencies within Prawitz s recently created Classical-Intuitionist system, and compares it with the logical system we have created using this new approach. In the third chapter, we contribute both to the traditional approach and our original approach by creating and comparing two Minimal-Intuitionist ecumenical logics. Finally, we briefly review the timid state of the art in the last chapter, offering a new conceptual framework for interpreting ecumenical systems, as well as commenting on some promising aspects of the field, which may be better analyzed in the future.

Poikkikristillinen identifioituminen vapauden ja yhteisyyden vuorovaikutuksena

Lindh, J. (Johanna) 23 August 2016 (has links)
Abstract The doctoral thesis deals with such Christian sense of community in which a believer participates in the services or other activities of several Christian communities, con¬ceives the community of Christians as something larger than the institutionalized church or religious community, or argues matters within the domain of religion with statemenst that belong to non-religious discourse. I will use the term Inter-Christianity of these activities. The primary survey area is Finland. However, I will contextualize the observations concerning Finland against changes in Christianity especially in Germany, the United States of America and also by a few examples, elsewhere in the world. In this manner, I will put the observations concerning Finland in proportion with the supranational nature of Christianity. I will review the change in the sense of community and identification of Christianity with the help of theories involving postmodernism, narrative research and symbolic anthropology. Twenty-three informants took part in the research. The research materials consists of 24 interviews, 14 discussions, 51 feedback discussions, 47 field work events and 49 written descriptions, Internet discussions and television programs involved with the topic. As the study is a mix of reflexive, interpretative and empirical methods, it is postmodern religious anthropology. Due to influence of ecumenical discussion, joint Christian gatherings and ecumenical services have increased in all countries reviewed. The increase of joint activities of different churches and the spread of awakening evangelical Christianity together with the postmodern culture that empahizes individuality have confirmed the perception of people involved in the Inter-Christianity on the justification of participation in multiple communities and the home gathering activities that oppose the institutionalized power of churches. Postevangelical movements and reform groups are common in Germany and the United States of America. Instead, home gathering activities and individual crossing of boundaries are common in Finland. Suhteutan näin Suomea koskevat havainnot kristillisyyden ylikansalliseen luonteeseen. Tarkastelen kristillisen yhteisöllisyyden ja identifioitumisen muutosta postmodernia käsittelevien teorioiden, narratiivitutkimuksen ja symbolisen antropologian avulla. Tutkimukseen osallistui 23 informanttia.
