Reverberation Chamber Modeling Using Finite-Difference Time-Domain MethodPetit, Frédéric 12 1900 (has links)
Since the last few years, the unprecedented growth of communication systems involving the propagation of electromagnetic waves is particularly due to developments in mobile phone technology. The reverberation chamber is a reliable bench-test, enabling the study of the effects of electromagnetic waves on a specific electronic appliance. However, the operating of a reverberation chamber being rather complicated, development of numerical models are of utmost importance to determine the crucial parameters to be considered. This thesis consists in the modelling and the simulation of the operating principles of a reverberation chamber by means of the Finite-Difference Time-Domain method. After a brief study based on field and power measurements performed in a reverberation chamber, the second chapter deals with the different problems encountered during the modelling. The consideration of losses being a very important factor in the operating of the chamber, two methods of implementation of these losses are set out in this chapter. Chapter~3 consists in the analysis of the influence of the stirrer on the first eigenmodes of the chamber; the latter modes can undergo a frequency shift of several MHz. Chapter~4 shows a comparison of results issued from high frequency simulations and theoretical statistical results. The problem of an object placed in the chamber, resulting in a field disturbance is also tackled. Finally, in the fifth chapter, a comparison of statistical results for stirrers having different shapes is set out.

Détection, localisation et estimation de défauts : application véhicule / Fault detection, isolation and estimation : Application to vehicle dynamicsFarhat, Ahmad 22 September 2016 (has links)
Modern vehicles are increasingly equipped with new mechanisms to improve safety, comfort and ecological impact. These active systems employ sensors, actuators and automatic control systems. However, in case of failure of one these components, the consequences for the vehicle and the passengers safety could be dramatic. In order to ensure a higher level of reliability within on board diagnosis, new methodologies for sensor or actuator fault detection, location and estimation are proposed. These model based approaches are extended for robust synthesis for switched uncertain systems. In addition, a method for detecting critical stability situation is presented. The validation of the different methods is illustrated with simulations using CarSim, and application on real vehicle data within the INOVE project.

The fabrication of the first laser in 1960 and the growth of fiber optics telecommunications have led to the development of integrated optics circuits. Theses lasts are efficient solutions to compacity and misalignment problems. Moreover, polarization management in integrated circuits enables to increase the data rate, to guaranty the signals reliability or to protect optical sources. The work presented here is dedicated to this last application, which is the motive of a long-term collaboration between IMEP-LAHC and the Hubert Curien institute in Saint-Etienne. Indeed, we proposed to fabricate a 45° reciprocal polarization rotator that is part of the optical isolator’s design, along with a polarization splitter and a Faraday rotator. We choose to use a field-assisted ion-exchange technique (FAIE). The implementation of the polarization rotator requires managing the side effects of the electrical field lines occurring during a FAIE. It allows controlling the waveguide core’s shape and thus the eigen axes tilt. It was obtained thanks to two cascaded FAIE. The first one, an Ag+/Na+ ion exchange, creates a high refractive index waveguide while the second one, a Na+/Na+ ion exchange, modifies the shape of the waveguide’s core. Measurements of the experimental polarization behavior are a first proof of a controlled tilt of eigen axes in this technology. Indeed, the waveguide exhibits a tilt of its eigen axes of (46.6 ± 0.1)° at the input and (42.3 ± 0.1)° at the output. The numerical study of the reciprocal rotator’s process has also been proposed and the adiabaticity of the design analytically validated. The first realization highlights high propagation losses that can linked to the degassing of the nitrate salts occurring during the FAIE. Possible improvements are thus suggested in the document. An enhancement of the Faraday rotator’s design is also proposed. It is obtained thanks to the fabrication of a waveguide exhibiting a negative birefringence whose design exploits the progress achieved in term of FAIE control. Eventually, a complete fabrication of the integrated isolator is proposed, taking into account the thermal budget of the various processes.

The aim of this thesis is to explore the capabilities offered by resonant X-ray scattering for the study of multiferroic systems with a special emphasis on the feasibility of such experiments under applied electric field/current. Boundary propagation matrices formalism has been developed for the simulation of resonant reflectivity, using a set of eigenwaves as a basis for the computation. Resonant X-ray experiments were performed on three transition metal oxides. This technique combines chemical selectivity and reciprocal space information, and was used on very thin films of PbTiO3 to solve the atomic structure of a periodic pattern of ferroelectric domains. The spectroscopic signatures observed in our hard X-ray experiments are well reproduced with FDMNES ab-initio simulations of complex super cells. In the soft X-ray range, we studied the cycloidal antiferromagnetic structure of multiferroic BiFeO3 and especially the imprint of the cycloid on a 10 nm-thin layer of Co deposited on top of the multiferroic bulk material. We also present an experiment in which we tried to explore the effect of an electrical current applied on a thin film of charge-ordered Pr(1-x)Ca(x)MnO3. Last part is dedicated to instrumentation. We summarize the state of the art of european synchrotron beamlines and diffractometers which can host resonant X-ray diffraction experiments. Finally, we detail a new sample holder that we developed and tested in the high-vacuum diffractometer RESOXS, which allows for the application of an electric field/current.

The contributions of this thesis consist of three main results. The first result is concerned with analytic perturbation theory for Kohn-Sham type models. We prove, under some technical conditions, the existence, uniqueness and analyticity of the perturbed reduced Hartree-Fock ground state density matrix for regular perturbations arising from an external potential. Our analysis encompasses the case when the Fermi level of the unperturbed ground state is a degenerate eigenvalue of the mean-field operator and the frontier orbitals are partially occupied. The second result is concerned with the mathematical construction of pseudo potentials for Kohn-Sham models. We define a set of admissible semi local norm-conserving pseudo potentials of given local Sobolev regularity and prove that this set is non-empty and closed for an appropriate topology. This allows us to propose a new way to construct pseudo potentials, which consists in optimizing on the latter set some criterion taking into account both smoothness and transferability requirements. The third result is a numerical study of the reduced Hartree-Fock model of atoms. We propose a discretization method and an algorithm to solve numerically the Kohn-Sham equations for an atom subjected to a cylindrically-symmetric external potential. We report the computed occupied energy levels and the occupation numbers for all the atoms of the four first rows of the periodic table and consider the case of an atom subjected to a uniform electric-field

Modelling of air-gap harmonic torques and its impact on vibrations in electric drivetrains : Modelling interaction between electromagnetics and vibration of an electrical machine / Modellering av luftgap harmoniskt vridmoment och dess inverkan på ytvibrationer på drivlina för e-mobilitet : Modelleringsinteraktion mellan elektromagnetik och vibrationer i en elektrisk maskinRadhakrishnan, Dhiyanesh January 2021 (has links)
In this report, the effect of external torque injection of a particular phase and frequency was analyzed using an induction motor assembly consisting of a prototype of an induction motor and a flexible mounting arrangement. The eigenfrequencies of the several components that make up the construction of the induction machine assembly are found out both by analytical and FEM methods. The electromagnetics of the Induction machine is simulated utilizing COMSOL Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software. The single direction coupling is set up to synchronize the parameters between the Rotating Machinery, Magnetic (RMM) and Multi Body Dynamics (MBD) models in COMSOL.

Minimization of Noise and Vibration Related to Driveline Imbalance using Robust Design ProcessesAl-Shubailat, Omar 17 August 2013 (has links)
Variation in vehicle noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) response can be caused by variability in design (e.g. tolerance), material, manufacturing, or other sources of variation. Such variation in the vehicle response causes a higher percentage of produced vehicles to have higher levels (out of specifications) of NVH leading to higher number of warranty claims and loss of customer satisfaction, which are proven costly. Measures must be taken to ensure less warranty claims and higher levels of customer satisfactions. As a result, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have implemented design for variation in the design process to secure an acceptable (or within specification) response. The focus here will be on aspects of design variations that should be considered in the design process of drivelines. Variations due to imbalance in rotating components can be unavoidable or costly to control. Some of the major components in the vehicle that are known to have imbalance and traditionally cause NVH issues and concerns include the crankshaft, the drivetrain components (transmission, driveline, half shafts, etc.), and wheels. The purpose is to assess NVH as a result of driveline imbalance variations and develop a tool to help design a more robust system to such variations.

Performance analysis of spectrum sensing techniques for cognitive radio systemsGismalla Yousif, Ebtihal January 2013 (has links)
Cognitive radio is a technology that aims to maximize the current usage of the licensed frequency spectrum. Cognitive radio aims to provide services for license-exempt users by making use of dynamic spectrum access (DSA) and opportunistic spectrum sharing strategies (OSS). Cognitive radios are defined as intelligent wireless devices capable of adapting their communication parameters in order to operate within underutilized bands while avoiding causing interference to licensed users. An underused band of frequencies in a specific location or time is known as a spectrum hole. Therefore, in order to locate spectrum holes, reliable spectrum sensing algorithms are crucial to facilitate the evolution of cognitive radio networks. Since a large and growing body of literature has mainly focused into the conventional time domain (TD) energy detector, throughout this thesis the problem of spectrum sensing is investigated within the context of a frequency domain (FD) approach. The purpose of this study is to investigate detection based on methods of nonparametric power spectrum estimation. The considered methods are the periodogram, Bartlett's method, Welch overlapped segments averaging (WOSA) and the Multitaper estimator (MTE). Another major motivation is that the MTE is strongly recommended for the application of cognitive radios. This study aims to derive the detector performance measures for each case. Another aim is to investigate and highlight the main differences between the TD and the FD approaches. The performance is addressed for independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Rayleigh channels and the general Rician and Nakagami fading channels. For each of the investigated detectors, the analytical models are obtained by studying the characteristics of the Hermitian quadratic form representation of the decision statistic and the matrix of the Hermitian form is identified. The results of the study have revealed the high accuracy of the derived mathematical models. Moreover, it is found that the TD detector differs from the FD detector in a number of aspects. One principal and generalized conclusion is that all the investigated FD methods provide a reduced probability of false alarm when compared with the TD detector. Also, for the case of periodogram, the probability of sensing errors is independent of the length of observations, whereas in time domain the probability of false alarm is increased when the sample size increases. The probability of false alarm is further reduced when diversity reception is employed. Furthermore, compared to the periodogram, both Bartlett method and Welch method provide better performance in terms of lower probability of false alarm but an increased probability of detection for a given probability of false alarm. Also, the performance of both Bartlett's method and WOSA is sensitive to the number of segments, whereas WOSA is also sensitive to the overlapping factor. Finally, the performance of the MTE is dependent on the number of employed discrete prolate spheroidal (Slepian) sequences, and the MTE outperforms the periodogram, Bartlett's method and WOSA, as it provides the minimal probability of false alarm.

Kmitání štíhlých mostních konstrukcí / Vibration of slender bridge structureKika, Ondřej Unknown Date (has links)
Doctoral thesis called Vibrations of slender bridge structures deals with comparison of constructions’ responses at different load model of pedestrians. Specifically, in practice commonly used model, where there are the effects of pedestrians replaced by forces acting in a certain place on the bridge and other model, which takes into account the load of pedestrians moving along the deck. Calculations of responses are performed by finite element method in program ANSYS. To obtain extreme values of responses It is used parametric calculation using the program OptiSlang. At first responses on the simplified constructions are evaluated for load of two pedestrians, as well as the responses on real bridges for load of two pedestrians and four pairs of pedestrians. Responses are also evaluated in terms of pedestrian’s comfort during use structures and analyzed for what groups of pedestrians are criteria still met and for which it is necessary to consider about use of devices to reduce vibration. Possible applications and design process of the vibration dampers are shown on different configurations on the bridges.
