The group of elderly people in Sweden will increase significantly in the future and science point out that the future elderly people will not accept today’s standards and offers of assistance in today’s public elderly care. Therefore public elderly care stands before a significant challenge in terms of development that has to be sustainable. New research also points out that middle managers can be a great strategic resource, and a founder of success, in the challenge of sustainable development. The aim of the report was to increase the knowledge about what middle managers in public elderly care think sustainable development has to embrace, when it comes to quality and personnel administration, in order to meet the needs of the future elderly people. The aim was also to deepen the knowledge of how formal and informal organizational factors facilitate or limit middle managers possibilities to work with development in general and sustainable development in specific in their units. Interviews, as a qualitative method, were used to gather empirical data and the result was analyzed with theories as Domain theory, New Public Management and Situational leadership. Our findings showed that middle managers have little possibilities to work with sustainable development in their units and that formal factors as budget had a great impact of the middle managers overall possibilities in their work. According to the result it seemed that development and long term planning in this particular organization were tasks mainly for the management and political domain. According to our findings it seemed as if the introduction of New Public Management increased the underlying initial problems of human service organizations. According to Domain theory these problems consists of disjunction, discordance and conflicts due to the differences between the three domains when it comes to principles, success measures, structure and work modes.

CHALLENGES IN EXPANDING ELDER CARE SERVICES IN BANGLADESH: THE PERSPECTIVE OF SERVICE PROVIDERSIslam, Md Nazrul, Islam, Mohammad Mashukul January 2023 (has links)
Culture, resource, and regulatory concerns are elevating the importance of business expansion inthe contemporary world. Everyone, including service providers, must overcome the obstacles.Change readiness assists individuals and organizations in accepting and embracing obstacles. This study seeks to evaluate the different types of services offered to the elderly as well as the obstacles that arise when attempting to expand them, taking into account the diverse cultural backgrounds of the country's population, the dearth of available resources, and regulatory hurdles. In this research, a qualitative method was undertaken, followed by an exploratory analysis. This thesis investigates the service offerings and problems of eleven Bangladeshi service providers using primary data gathered from semi-structured interview. This also utilizes previous scholarly articles and published data from other academic sources. The study's findings highlight service provider challenges and offer a research paradigm for theservice business, notably elderly care. The results indicate that the majority of aged care services provided by different institutions are identical. Healthcare, along with other services like social and recreational programs, and educational and training courses, are all part of this category. Italso demonstrates that cultural, resource, and regulatory constraints are major roadblocks to this industry's development. Furthermore, research finding shows, currently providers are not ready tomeet the incremental demand and subsequent changes will take place in the near future. This thesis contributes to the literature on business development by examining organizational readiness to change (ORC) and the challenges faced by business. Despite focusing on a singlenation, this research provides a comprehensive evaluation of the importance of organizational change preparedness for service growth. This study suggested a conceptual model that relates institutional care obstacles from the provider's perspective.

Tillförlitlig kvalitet – Jämförelse mellan offentlig och privat äldreomsorg / Reliable quality - Comparison between public and private elderly careHolmberg, Nora, Toresten, Mikael January 2021 (has links)
During the start of the 1990´s reforms were introduced that to this day affect Swedish elderly care. These reforms brought forth large alterations in the public sector where in multiple, previously public services were privatized. In the following three decades have these reforms been regularly discussed in both political contexts and society, where the reforms of the elderly care have been prominent. This study compares and analyze reliable quality of administrated care of elderly between the public and private sectors, because of the private sector´s common profit orientation, which the public sector does not have. The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze how management perceive the opportunity to give reliable quality within the organization. Operational labor is performed by both management and coworkers together which resulted in eight managers within the Swedish elderly care being interviewed wherein four worked in the public sector and private, respectively. These interviews became the empirical basis for the study. The interview questions were constructed using the studies analytical model which is based on characteristic properties within organization with high reliability. The result of this study shows that managers in both the public and private sectors perceive the possibility of reliable quality based on the conditions that exist in elderly care. However, the results of the study show that there are shortcomings in the reliable quality. The study´s scientific contribution indicates the quality based on the conditions that managers have to provide a reliable quality in elderly care.

"Konflikter bidrar till en levande verksamhet" : En kvalitativ studie om ledarskapets inverkan vid konflikthantering i privat och offentlig äldreomsorg / “Conflicts contribute to a living activity” : The role of leadership in conflict management in the private and public elderly careEriksson, Natalie, Stoltz, My January 2015 (has links)
This study is based on interviews with four managers in public elderly care and four managers in private elderly care. The aim of this paper is to examine how these managers are experiencing their leadership in relation to conflict management, and if the managers leadership differs depending on private or public elderly care. Leadership and conflict management are theories that have been used in order to analyze the empirical findings. Previous research that has been used in the study concerns “leadership/leadership styles”, “conflict management”, “to be active in the private/public elderly care”. Social workers often choose to work as a manager in private and public elderly care. The work as a manager is demanding with pressure from several/different parties and the manager faces new challenges. Conflicts are one challenge that mangers faces, and conflicts can be a sensitive topic. The study deals with the complexity that managers in the private and public elderly care faces, mainly based on the leadership role in conflict management. The results show that the interviewees leadership in this study, for the most part can be linked to the situational leadership style, which means that managers believe that leadership adapts to any situation that arises. They also experienced that the private elderly care has higher demands and that there is a bigger responsibility on the individual manger than it is in the public elderly care. There are many different support functions in the public elderly care that managers have the opportunity to take help from daily, that opportunity does not exist in private elderly care.

Love in care homes : Managers' perspectives on and strategies for dealing with ethical dilemmas linked to romantic relationships in care homes for the elderly.Bergqvist, Hanna, Javidi, Shervin January 2023 (has links)
The objective of this study is to examine the perspectives and preferred actions by managers at elderly care home facilities regarding ethical dilemmas that may emerge when elderly people fall in love. Previous research is mainly focused on ageism and the sex-life of elderly people at care homes. Less attention is paid to their love-life and the view of the managers is often overlooked. Researchers tend to interview and observe the staff, such as nurses and assistant nurses, rather than the managers. In order to provide information to reduce this knowledge gap, this study is based on interviews with managers at elderly care homes in Sweden using the vignette-method.The analysis of this study is based on ethical theory, which is divided into two main orientations called duty-based ethics and consequentialist ethics. Ethical theory is used as a tool for analyzing the data in order to discover which ethical orientation the managers prefer to base their arguments on. The conclusion of this study shows that neither duty-based ethics, nor consequentialist ethics is more often used than the other. The managers motivate their arguments and actions on both ethical orientations without being solely reliant on neither one. Furthermore, the conclusions of this study state that the managers value autonomy and the well-being of the elderly as well as their spouses. However, they all pointed out that ethical dilemmas derived from love in elderly care homes are complex to deal with and more knowledge is needed.

Purpose: The study aims at bringing about more knowledge regarding the role played by management concepts within private elderly care, in handling the aspect of its regulatory environment concerning quality work. Theory: The analysis and interpretations rest upon the basis of neo institutional theory and furthermore its Scandinavian branch, mainly concerning the issue of translation of management concepts. Further, the study takes into account, previous research on implementation of Total Quality Management as well as main features of the concept. Data: Annual quality reports published by Vardaga and Attendo for three consecutive years were reviewed, as well as the regulations and guidelines SOSFS: 2011: 9 Management system for systematic quality work imposed by The National Board of Health and Welfare. Conclusion: The design of the regulatory environment makes application of Total Quality Management practices inevitable in the elderly care sector. Striking, is however how both companies more than just implementing the TQM, additionally are using rhetoric seeking to legitimize the practices, possibly in order to gain internal and/or external recognition. Alongside TQM rhetoric, the two companies also express a different approach towards quality, emphasising the importance of professional knowledge as well as suggesting quality can be hard to measure accurately. This indicates possible translation of the quality term and its meaning, possibly for solving issues presented by TQM critics.

Magnusson, Lisa, Hannela, Ljung January 2016 (has links)
Statistics shows that guidelines or strategies are missing within several municipalities in Sweden concerning handling cases with elderly people with abuse or addiction problem. Arbetstillfredsställelse i äldreomsorgen : Ett undersköterskeperspektiv / Work satisfaction in elder care : A nurse assistant perspectiveLind, Emma, Palm, Lise-Lotte January 2016 (has links)
The number of older people with major care-needs increase, at the same time as elder care has problems with recruitment and high staff turnover. This is a challenge for society. Satisfaction at work has been shown to reduce staff turnover. The purpose of this study is to examine how nurse assistants perceive their work in elder care, and what creates satisfaction and dissatisfaction at work. The results, based on interviews with nurse assistants (n=6) analyzed hermeneutically using Herzberg’s two-factor theory and Antonovsky’s sense of coherence theory showed that most nurse assistants felt generally satisfied with their work. The result shows that an important factor giving the conditions for work satisfaction was good human interpersonal relationships. Dissatisfaction at work was mainly due to the lack of time to fulfill work tasks to a satisfactory level. We argue that our results can provide guidance to reasons for satisfaction and dissatisfaction for nurse assistants in elderly care and contribute to important knowledge to elder care.
