Support and encounter of patients with ALS and those who are close to them - A litterature review

Starck, Camilla, Wahlgren, Carolina January 2005 (has links)
In the present time amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an untreatable disease and the course of the disease is often very fast. Nursing of the patients has to be specific. Purpose: The purpose of this literature study was to elucidate caregivers encounter of patients with an untreatable disease like ALS and those who are close to the patients. Method: To answer our research questions we have chosen to do a literature study witch is based on ten scientific articles. The articles were quality rated using Carlsson and Eimans ratingscale for qualitative and quantitative studies. As a frame of reference we used a model by Carnevali. Result: To be one of those who are close to the patients with ALS can affect them in a negative way in their daily life. All patients and those who are close to them have to be encountered by their own needs and individual information is an important part of nursing. Conclusion: From our result we made the conclusions that all patients and those who are close to them are individuals and should be encountered by their personal needs.

The Strings of The Soul : Encounters Between the Russian Balalaika and the Swedish Keyed Fiddle

Ivanova, Natalya January 2023 (has links)
"The strings of the soul” is a master thesis which explores questions about tradition, itsexpression in music and especially folk music. It illuminates some differences betweentraditional and folk music. It explores Russian and Swedish folk music traditions, comparingboth of the traditions and identifying differences and similarities. The instruments that are used in the project are the Russian balalaika and the Swedish keyedfiddle (nyckelharpa). To implement those ideas in the research and enable these encounters I got in contact withmusicians playing the keyed fiddle. Under the tutorial I got some knowledge in keyed fiddleplaying techniques, its character and uniqueness. I participated in several playing sessions andgot an opportunity to experience Swedish folk music. The aim of this project is to seek a better understanding both of my “native” tradition ofRussian music, as well as of Swedish folk music, by exploring Swedish folk music throughthe performance practices of the balalaika. Hereby I wish to better understand theperformance practice of the Russian balalaika tradition, by using the instrument inperformance of Swedish folk music. The project is guided by the following research questions:How can Swedish folk music best be adapted for the balalaika? In what ways can the traditional performance practice of the balalaika be challenged bymaking arrangements of music originally conceived for the keyed fiddle? Are there any balalaika playing techniques that have the ability to imitate the sound of thekeyed fiddle? What novel possibilities may the balalaika offer to folk music originally conceived for thekeyed fiddle? Are there any difficulties in playing Swedish folk music on the balalaika? As a result of encounter process five arrangements were written, performed and recorded. As the source I used Swedish folk pieces for the keyed fiddle. “Spelmansglädje” - ”Fiddler´sJoy” by Erik Sahlström; “Vi är komna uti flickors land”, trad.; ”Finn Pål´s polska” of PaulDanielsson; ”Järv i säcken”- “Säkkijärvi polka”, trad.; ”Slängpolska efter Byss Kalle”, trad. For me personally, this research has given me the possibility to express myself as a musician,an artist and a researcher. It shows where I´m right now and how all this is related to myexperience as an individual and as a musician. Keywords: tradition; tradition in music; folk music; encounters; playing techniques;knowledge; experience; arrangement.

Encountering Diversity Before and Beyond the District Courts : The Saamis’ Situation in North-Western Jämtland 1649–1700

Ejemar, Sigrid January 2023 (has links)
This thesis utilises district court records from the three judicial districts of Hammerdal, Offerdal, and Undersåker to shed light on Saamis’ presence in north-western Jämtland during the seventeenth century. The research question posed is how encounters with the local communities shaped the Saamis’ situation during a period of emerging colonial mores and contributes to the discussion on how encounters with others impacted the situation for the Saami in early modern Sweden. The theoretical framework adopts the concepts of borderlands, concurrences, and settler colonialism to understand the manifold of encounters that shaped the situation for the Saami, acknowledging the possibility that the encounters could be contradictory while also understanding them as shaped within a context of power asymmetries. Contrary to the northern lappmarks, this thesis shows that the Saamis in north-western Jämtland were deprived of representation at the local courts, affecting their influence in local self-governance and administration of justice. Moreover, by not only focusing on Saamis’ encounters with the representatives of the Crown and the Church but also with the non-Saamis who resided in the local communities, this thesis concludes that the Saamis’ situation was shaped by concurring and conflicting encounters, encompassing not only coercion and confrontation but also cooperation and coexistence.

Social infrastructures of urban solidarity : Neighborhood art spaces and their potential for negotiating difference

Damian, Corina Maria January 2023 (has links)
In the context of negative consequences following an economic growth paradigm, in the urban sphere, such as uneven urban development, marginalization, gentrification and austerity measures, the present study directs the focus towards the spaces of civic promise. These spaces have the potential to challenge the commoditized and consumerist urban practices and imagine alternative futures. The present paper applies an infrastructural approach to neighborhood art spaces with the purpose of identifying and understanding urban solidarity. Urban solidarity is conceptualized as civic sociality that negotiates difference. To pursue this line of inquiry, the thesis analyzes practices, relations, encounters and socialities that are allowed at Konsthall C, a neighborhood art space located in Hökarängen, a southern suburb of Stockholm, Sweden. The three research questions that guide the thesis are discussing the qualities of the art space, the civic sociality and how it negotiates difference and the dynamics between the qualities of the spaces and the civic social relations manifested in the space. These dynamics reveal that there is not a simple straightforward relationship between the two. Moreover, the importance of the background is reiterated for these types of spaces. Besides this, a nuanced perspective on the types of civic sociality and how it works towards negotiating differences is highlighted.

HBTQI-personers erfarenheter av bemötande av hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal : En litteraturstudie / LGBTQI people's experiences of being approached in health care : A literature study

Norberg, Lukas January 2024 (has links)
Background: The term LGBTQI encompasses homosexual, bisexual, transgender individuals, queer identities and intersex people. This group has historically been stigmatized as a psychiatric or medical issue and still faces challenges. Research indicates they often experience worse health than the general population and struggle to find healthcare tailored to their needs. How they are treated in healthcare significantly impacts their well-being. Therefore, healthcare professionals' competence in understanding lgbtqi experiences is crucial for quality and respectful care. Aim: This study aimed to describe lgbtqi individuals' experiences when approached by health care personnel. Methods: This literature review was based on 10 qualitative articles from Cinahl and Pubmed, analysed through manifest content analysis. Results: Three themes and six sub-themes emerged. The themes that emerged were LGBTQI-individuals’ healthcare experiences, Consequences of uninformed encounters and Approaches to creating inclusive care. Conclusion: The sexual orientation and gender identity of lgbtqi individuals can hinder their access to adequate healthcare due to discrimination and healthcare professionals' knowledge gaps. These negative experiences in the healthcare system can lead to poorer health outcomes as they are less likely to seek medical care.
