Thus, the decisions referring to the operational area ought to follow the paths proposed by the operation strategy, which should be subordinated to and coherent with the corporative strategy. Having this as a main basis, this study focuses on the strategic objectives of operations and, by means of case studies, it aims at verifying the contribution of enterprise management system (EMS) to its elaboration. The cases were studied aiming at knowing the performance objectives most valued by the company administration and the production function too. Next, this work studies in the operational area which traits of a EMS can mostly contribute in the effectiveness of these strategic objectives. Finally, an inventory about the utilization of the EMS is elaborated and a comparative analysis is carried out so that it is possible to identify the adequacy level existent. In order to get the reader acquainted to the themes discussed a bibliographical review was made and it covers Operation Strategy, Enterprise Management System and the Strategic Alignment between them. By the end of this study, it was possible to observe that the enterprise strategy has been communicating efficiently with the operational area and that the utilization of EMS contributes to the strategic effectiveness of operation. Nevertheless, it can be realized that this contribution could be more relevant in case the alignment between Operational areas and IT were worked out more elaboratedly. In relation to the alignment level, analyses did not show significant differences neither among the companies researched in spite of the fact they belong to different action areas, nor among different EMS or their versions. / Este trabalho parte do princípio de que o sucesso de uma organização é alcançado mais facilmente se as hierarquias estratégicas forem respeitadas. Sendo assim as decisões referentes à área produtiva deveriam seguir as diretrizes propostas pela estratégia de produção que, por sua vez, deveria estar subordinada e coerente à estratégia corporativa. Tendo isso como fundamento principal, o estudo foca os objetivos estratégicos da produção e, por meio de estudos de casos, procura verificar a contribuição dos sistemas de gestão empresarial (SGE) à sua efetivação. Busca-se conhecer nos casos estudados quais os objetivos de desempenho priorizados pela administração da empresa e também pela função produção. Em seguida, junto à área de operações, procura-se identificar quais as funcionalidades de um SGE poderiam contribuir mais na concretização desses objetivos estratégicos. Por fim é realizado um inventário sobre a utilização do SGE e uma análise comparativa é realizada para identificar o nível de adequação existente. Para a equalização do conhecimento em relação aos temas discutidos, também elaborou-se uma revisão bibliográfica sobre Estratégia de Produção, Sistemas de Gestão Empresarial e do Alinhamento Estratégico entre eles. Ao concluir o trabalho, foi possível observar que a estratégia empresarial está sendo comunicada com eficiência à área operacional e que a utilização do SGE contribui para a efetivação estratégia de produção. Entretanto, percebe-se que essa contribuição poderia ser mais relevante caso o alinhamento estratégico entre as áreas de Produção e TI fosse trabalhado com mais afinco. Em relação ao nível de alinhamento, as análises não mostraram diferenças significativas entre as empresas pesquisadas, apesar de pertencerem a áreas de atuação distintas, nem entre os diferentes SGE ou versões dos mesmos.

Improving the formation of virtual enterprises through a systematic approach for managing key broker activities

Virtual enterprises are increasingly being used as an organizational strategy for meeting customer needs. Potential benefits of virtual enterprises include increased profits, flexibility, increased customer service, better quality, a quicker time to market, and access to larger markets. However, the brokers that organize these ventures face challenges that arise in five key management activities: select partners, develop communication, develop culture, develop trust, and enhance behavior through motivation. A broker?s ability to overcome the problems in these activities determines the degree to which the benefits are achieved. Examples in the literature point to the possibility that interactive relationships exist between the five management activities. Considering all of these possible associations leads to a complex web of relationships that makes it difficult to determine the overall impact of specific improvements. This research investigates the five management activities and defines the primary relationships between them. The primary relationships are used to develop a conceptual model that brokers can apply as a methodology for systematically developing a virtual enterprise and thereby proactively addressing potential problems. In developing the conceptual model, this research utilizes approaches from other disciplines for addressing similar problems. The application of these approaches results in the use of systems engineering concepts to plan and design a virtual enterprise, the development of a partner selection methodology that incorporates ideas from the supplier performance measurement literature, the development of a pre-partner cultural assessment and post-partner cultural development process that are based on ideas found in the literature on mergers, and the use of project management as a means for coordinating the activities in a virtual enterprise. In addition to the preceding contributions, this research provides a comprehensive view of the characteristics of virtual enterprises. Included in these provisions are a detailed definition process and an extension of the literature to establish a typology of virtual enterprises.

This essay was drafted on the topic of "The sale of an enterprise as the mode of enforcement (execution) of monetary judgment". The topic of this essay was chosen by me as I have been working with the execution law and, furthermore, this is very the dynamically expanded legal area in the frame of the civil procedural law. The enforcement (execution) is the legal area which is been experiencing by permanent changes, which main aims are both more effective enforcement of the pecuniary fulfilment on one side and the protection and minimisation of enforcement in reasonable and indispensable cases on the second side. The aim of this essay is to introduce this legal area of the sale of an enterprise as the mode of enforcement (execution) arranged by the judges during enforcement and executions arranged by the executors. From the reading of a database of an integrated business management software - ERP, object of study of this research were applied previously set auditing rules and the result is that the tool presented the software failures, either by parameterization inconsistencies, the result of an improper deployment software, either by inconsistencies of operations by the end users, the result of inadequate guidance or lack of training in software operation process. With the information of nonconformities generated by the audit tool, you can take corrective decisions about the root cause of the failures identified and consequently improve the management software operations. The tool presented greater efficiency in the audit process and improved effectiveness in control of the operations in a business management software, the research object of study. From the results of this research, software house companies or companies using the ERP Software can use the audit tool developed to implement improvements in the management process of transactions in the ERP Software. The tool also allows you to reduce the operating cost audit and minimize business risks. Furthermore, the tool is easy to use, and requires no technical knowledge from the end user. This research used the method known as Design Science Research (DSR), the research method that aims to develop the valid general knowledge to support the design of solutions for field problems, using a focused research approach to creation a new artifact. / Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo desenvolver uma ferramenta para automatizar o processo de auditoria. A partir da leitura de um banco de dados de um software de gestão empresarial integrado - ERP, objeto de estudo desta pesquisa, foram aplicadas as regras de auditoria previamente definidas e o resultado é que a ferramenta apresentou as falhas do software, seja por inconsistências de parametrização, fruto de uma inadequada implantação do software, seja por inconsistências das operações realizadas pelos usuários finais, fruto de uma inadequada orientação ou por falta de treinamento no processo de operação do software. Com as informações das não-conformidades geradas pela ferramenta de auditoria, pode-se tomar decisões de correção sobre a causa raiz das falhas apontadas e consequentemente melhorar as operações do software de gestão. A ferramenta apresentou maior eficiência no processo de auditoria e melhor eficácia no controle das operações realizadas em um software de gestão empresarial, objeto de estudo da pesquisa. A partir dos resultados desta pesquisa, as empresas produtoras ou empresas usuárias deste software ERP poderão utilizar a ferramenta de auditoria desenvolvida para implantar melhorias no processo de gestão das operações realizadas no software ERP. A ferramenta permite ainda reduzir o custo operacional de auditoria e minimizar os riscos para o negócio. Além disso, a ferramenta é fácil de utilizar, e não requer conhecimentos técnicos do usuário final. Esta pesquisa utilizou o método conhecido como Design Science Research (DSR) ou Pesquisa para Avanço da Ciência, método de pesquisa que tem como objetivo desenvolver o conhecimento geral válido para apoiar a concepção de soluções para problemas de campo, utilizando uma abordagem de pesquisa voltada para criação de um novo artefato.

The name of the topic of this diploma thesis is The enterprise management with focus on personnel management in selected medium-sized enterprise. The main tasks of the thesis is to analyse the current situation of the enterprise management with focus on personnel management and to propose solutions to current problems and opportunities for improvement of the current situation. For analysis of the enterprise management and personnel management were used two research methods: a semicontrolled interview and a reseach method using questionnaires. The semicontrolled interview was applied to find out how management sees the current state of enterprise management and personnel management. The research method using questionnaires was applied to find out what would employees change to their satisfaction and to find out how employees see the current state of the personnel management. Altogether the employees are satisfied with the work. In general, the enterprise management and the personnel management in the selected enterprise can be evaluated as good and effective but with minor deficiencies. The management could be more open to change and respond to significant changes more quickly. To eliminate deficiencies were suggested the improvements of possibilities of proposing amendments by employees, to improve communication from the bottom up, support career development, training and staff development. For improving the atmosphere in the workplace and strengthening relationships was suggested organizing social event and sports day. Other proposed improvements in personnel management are more frequent appreciation of a job well done, streamlining remuneration by employee performance and ensure greater diversity of work tasks.

Trata-se de uma empresa brasileira que tem um significado histórico de destaque no Brasil. Mais especificamente analisamos o discurso de gestão empresarial (DGE) na/da Petrobras e, nesse sentido, buscamos compreender o cruzamento de discursos que se dá entre: o discurso de gestão e o nacionalismo e a brasilidade que marcam fortemente o discurso da Petrobras, por isso nosso interesse específico por esta empresa. Nosso corpus é, então, constituído de materiais de comunicação institucional da Petrobras. Para realizar este trabalho, que se inscreve na teoria da análise de discurso, filiada ao materialismo histórico, analisamos inicialmente o discurso publicitário, por meio de propagandas e do próprio logotipo que é a marca da Petrobras para, em seguida, passarmos aos materiais que tocam nas relações de trabalho mais diretamente. Há uma passagem de um discurso mais nacionalista a um discurso mais adequado à mundialização, que pode ser verificada nas análises dos materiais de propaganda e é possível ver, ao longo das análises, como um discurso é "solidário" com o outro, no sentido de sustentar o discurso de gestão atual. De um modo geral, a pesquisa busca compreender como as relações de poder, de submissão, de (re)organização do capitalismo se dão, produzindo efeitos de evidência de: autonomia, consenso e de responsabilidade para o sujeito do discurso. Traçamos elementos do processo de constituição do sujeito, centrando-nos nos modos de individuação do sujeito pela instituição que é a empresa, os quais nos permitem compreender mais sobre a forma de interpelação do sujeito na contemporaneidade. Assim, compreendemos que é constituída uma imagem de sujeito auto-empreendedor que se sustenta num discurso predominantemente psicologista e há o funcionamento discursivo da (dis)simulação, que está colocado como condição de significação para esse discurso de gestão atual, que tem como um traço característico seu, o apagamento do político. O discurso das competências é constitutivo do DGE, bem como o da responsabilidade, harmonia e consenso, os quais têm implicações na constituição do sujeito e também na questão da resistência. Ainda que o objeto de pesquisa seja um certo discurso dominante, institucionalizado, são apresentados, ao final, elementos para se pensar nas formas de resistência do sujeito, pois não há dominação sem resistência. O que está em questão, considerando as relações de forças, é a manutenção do sistema capitalista e para isso ele precisa ser (re)significado, (re)dito. Analisar a posição discursiva da Petrobras a partir dessas condições de produção sócio-históricas do discurso permitiu-nos compreender também a configuração de uma formação discursiva neoliberal que é praticada na contemporaneidade / Abstract: In this thesis, we seek to analyse Petrobras¿ discursive position in which concerns work relations, therefore, this enterprise¿s discourse about/in/of work relations, considering the social-historical production conditions of the productive restructuration in Brazil from 1990 on as part of a broader process: mundialization. Petrobras is a Brazilian company that has a prominent historical meaning to Brazil. More specifically, we analyse the discourse of enterprise management in/of Petrobras and, in these terms, we aim to understand the crossing discourses between management discourse, nationalism and Brazility that strongly mark Petrobras¿ discourse. That¿s why our interest in this company. Thus, our corpus is formed by Petrobras¿ corporate communication instruments. To this end, in a research that inscribes itself theoretically in discourse analysis, a discipline chained to historical materialism, initially we analyse publicity discourse (advertisings and Petrobras¿ logo itself, which represents the company) in order to come to materials that concern work relations more closely. There¿s a passage from a more nationalist discourse to a more adequate to mundialization discourse that can be verified at the analysis of the publicity discourse, and it¿s possible to recognize, throughout the analysis, how a discourse is "sympathetic" to another, in the sense that it can support the present management discourse. Generally speaking, this research pursues to comprehend how power, submission, capitalism (re)organization relations occur, producing evidence effects of autonomy, consensus and responsibility to discourse subject. We picked elements from the process of the subject constitution, emphasizing the modalities by which the subject is individuated by the institution/company, that allow us to understand more precisely the subject interpellation today. By doing so, we get to grasp that a self-entrepreneur image of the subject is constituted, and that it sustains itself in a predominantly psychologism discourse. Furthermore, there¿s a (dis)simulation discursive functioning that is meant to be a significance condition to this present management discourse, which contains, as its characteristic trace, the erasure of politics. The competences discourse is constitutive of the discourse of enterprise management, as well as responsibility¿s, harmony¿s and consensus¿, which involve themselves in the constitution of the subject and in the resistance issue. Even though the research subject is kind of dominant, institutionalized, at the end we present elements to reflect over subject¿s resistance, as there¿s no dominance without resistance. The question is, considering force relations, the maintenance of capitalist system and all it requires: its (re)meaning, (re)saying. The study of this subject justifies itself, because there are few reports available in literature concerning the perception of students in the evaluation of this methodology as a learning tool that collaborates with the development of competences and abilities, which are important to place the students in the business market. The considered method of research is the case study. This study has been developed taking as reference the experience of the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation - FAAP in São Paulo and São José dos Campos, which offer the discipline business simulation in their courses of Post-Graduation in Business administration. The research had a sample size of 80 (eighty) students who had taken business simulation classes in the year of 2006. This institution of education was chosen by being one of the precursors in the use of the Business simulation tools in Brazil and also by the fact of never having participated in research about this subject. It has been verified that the business simulation do not substitute any other discipline. However it adds value in the course composition of Graduation in Administration course specially supporting the National Curricular Lines (BRASIL, 2005) in its needs, therefore, questions between theory and practice using the meaningful learning, fit the student s needs, despite the fact that this tools improve student s management skills for business market / O objetivo deste trabalho é estudar os jogos de empresas e seus benefícios para a prática empresarial, a partir de sua utilização nos cursos de Pós-graduação em Administração Lato-sensu, focando a análise sob a ótica dos seus alunos O estudo desse tema se justifica, porque ainda há poucos relatos na literatura sobre a percepção dos alunos na avaliação dessa metodologia como uma ferramenta de aprendizagem que colabora com o desenvolvimento de competências e habilidades, as quais são necessárias para a inserção desses alunos no mercado de trabalho. O método de pesquisa proposto é o estudo de caso. Esse estudo foi desenvolvido tendo por base a experiência da Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado FAAP em São Paulo e São José dos Campos, que ministra a disciplina jogos de empresas nos seus cursos de Pós- Graduação em Administração de Empresas. A pesquisa contou com uma amostra de 80 (oitenta) alunos que participaram dessa disciplina no ano de 2006. Essa instituição de ensino foi escolhida por ser uma das precursoras na utilização da ferramenta jogos de empresas no Brasil e também por nunca ter participado de pesquisas sobre esse assunto. Verificou-se que os jogos de empresas não substituem nenhuma disciplina. Porém agrega valor na composição de um curso de pós-graduação em administração principalmente atendendo as necessidades das Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais (BRASIL, 2005), pois o aluno se identifica com questões entre teoria e prática utilizando a aprendizagem significativa, além do fato que o esta ferramenta atende as necessidades de melhor preparo gerencial dos alunos para o mercado

An Evaluation of Technological, Organizational and Environmental Determinants of Emerging Technologies Adoption Driving SMEs’ Competitive Advantage

This research evaluates the technological, organizational, and environmental determinants of emerging technologies adoption represented by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) driving SMEs’ competitive advantage within a resource-based view (RBV) theoretical approach supported by the technological-organizational-environmental (TOE)-framework setting. Current literature on SMEs competitive advantage as outcome of emerging technologies in the technological, organisational, and environmental contexts presents models focused on these contexts individual components. There are no models in the literature to represent the TOE framework as an integrated structure with gradual levels of complexity, allowing for incremental evaluation of the business context in support of decision making towards emerging technologies adoption supporting the firm competitive advantage. This research gap is addressed with the introduction of a new concept, the IT resource-based renewal, underpinned by the RBV, and supported by the TOE framework for providing a holistic understanding of the SMEs strategic renewal decision through information technology. This is achieved through a complex measurement model with four level constructs, leading into a parsimonious structural model that evaluates the relationships between IT resource-based renewal, and emerging technologies adoption driving SMEs competitive advantage. The model confirms the positive association between the IT resource-based renewal and emerging technologies adoption, and between the IT resource-based renewal and SME competitive advantage for the SMEs managers model, with the SME owners model outcomes are found not being supportive towards emerging technologies adoption driving SME competitive advantage. As methodology, PLS-SEM is used for its capabilities of assessing complex paths among model variables. Analysis is done on three models, one for the full sample, with two subsequent ones for owners and managers, respectively, as SME decision makers, with data collected using a web-based survey in Canada, the UK, and the US, that has provided 510 usable answers. This research has a theoretical contribution represented by the introduction of the IT resource-based renewal concept, that integrates the RBV perspective and the TOE framework for supporting organization’s decision on emerging technologies adoption driving SMEs competitive advantage. As practical implications, this thesis provides SMEs with a reference framework on adopting emerging technologies, offering SME managers and owners a comprehensive model of hierarchical factors contributing to SMEs competitive advantage acquired as outcome of AI and IoT adoption. This research makes an original contribution to the enterprise management, information systems adoption, and SME competitive advantage literature, with an empirical approach that verifies a model of emerging technologies adoption determinants driving SMEs competitive advantage.

Integrated network application management (INAM)

Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / This thesis attempts to create a desire for change in DoD's current approach to Network Application Management (NAM). The evolution of NAM into Integrated Network Application Management (INAM) is a crucial component of Network Centric Warfare and achieving Information Superiority and Interoperability. INAM is outlined as three functional requirements, which are Network Awareness, Mission Prioritization linkage to Network Resources, and the Balancing of Service Management. Scenarios play a key role in illustrating the new threats that DoD faces today. These scenarios also identify limitations and challenges to NAM as it exists today. These challenges require significant improvements in flexibility and responsiveness, while providing for wide integration. Trends supporting change are identified in this thesis. Two of the more important trends are the rise of Architectural and Object Oriented Development. Examples such as Training and Testing Enabled Architecture (TENA), Surveillance and Target Acquisition Network (STAN), and Virtual Proving Ground (VPG) are clear examples of these trends. The merging of the Computer Industry's efforts to expand the reach of Operating Systems with the traditional efforts from Network Management is also a trend that is examined. Organizations like Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) are important to such examinations. Successful change can not be achieved without planning for the transition. This thesis also presents some active transition efforts addressing Network Centric Warfare.
