Circular Entrepreneurship in Practice : Exploring embeddedness during circular venture creation in Sweden

Färber, Laura Sophie, Ianni, Daria January 2024 (has links)
Exploring circular entrepreneurship and its disruptive approach to resource use is crucial in order to challenge the prevailing linear economic model and promote sustainable development in business and society. By examining circular entrepreneurship through the theoretical lenses of entrepreneurship as practice (EaP) and embeddedness, this study aims to shed light on the process of venture creation and the key role of entrepreneurial practices in it. Focusing on the initial stages of circular venture creation, we investigate how entrepreneurs build and leverage embeddedness through diverse everyday practices performed to both become embedded and draw resources from their networks and environment. Through a qualitative analysis based on semi-structured interviews conducted with circular entrepreneurs in Sweden, the study aims to advance an understanding of the dynamic interplay between embeddedness and entrepreneurial practices, offering nuanced insights into their mutual influence. Our findings contribute both theoretically and practically to the under-researched field of circular entrepreneurship, highlighting the relevance of embeddedness in the process of circular venture creation and advancing a practical understanding of how circular ventures successfully emerge.

The Interplay of Human and Social Capital among Internationalization of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

Zijan, Valerija, Eriksson, Kajsa January 2024 (has links)
Purpose - This thesis aims to explore the combined effects of entrepreneurs' human and social capital on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises through internationalization.  Research question - How does the interplay of an entrepreneur´s human and social capital influence small and medium-sized enterprise´s growth through internationalization? Method - This research is a qualitative single case adopting an inductive approach aligned with an ontology relativism position and social constructivism position of epistemology. Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data for the research. The data was analyzed using the Gioia method, creating 33 first-order terms, 8 second-order themes, and, lastly, the aggregate dimension.  Findings - The results of this research show that both the entrepreneur's human and social capital play a decisive role in the growth of SMEs through internationalization. There is a strong correlation between human and social capital, which means that SMEs cannot effectively go through the internationalization process solely with the support of one of these capitals without the other. By effectively utilizing both human and social capital, companies can create advantages and increase their competitiveness. Implications - This research's Theoretical implications highlight that by examining the interplay between entrepreneurs' human and social capital, researchers can identify key factors for successful SME internationalization and understand network leveraging for growth. Additionally, this research provides practical implications by emphasizing the importance of leveraging human and social capital, existing networks, and strategic relationships to enhance SME internationalization and drive sustainable growth.

Sansoucy, Andréanne 05 1900 (has links)
Subcontracting is an established practice in the construction industry, because of its economic and technical strengths. Through this practice, sub-contractors perform work without being contractually bound to the client. How to ensure payment of their claims, given the risk of default by the contractor. The legislature has provided a statutory system of protection and the practice has developed mechanisms. Although the statutory scheme ensures effective protection of subcontractors’ claims, it has certain weaknesses in its application, which may cause inconveniences to the subcontractors and the owner. Title insurance and the withholding of funds by the financial institution or notary can overcome these difficulties for the owner. The protection mechanisms developed through practice, such as bond and currency guarantees, increase the protection of subcontractors when used in conjunction with the statutory scheme and benefits the owner.

Agnolon, Maria Carolina 03 1900 (has links)
Breastfeeding is the optimal way of feeding infants and young children. Nevertheless, breastfeeding rates in Quebec are among the lowest in Canada. Within this context, the government of Quebec included breastfeeding among its public health priorities, and in 2001 published the policy L’allaitement maternel au Québec : Lignes directrices (Breastfeeding in Quebec: Guidelines; LD). Using a qualitative single case study design, this study aimed to understand the processes of emergence, development and implementation of the LD. Institutional theory was adopted as the theoretical framework. Data were collected through individual interviews and a focus group with professionals involved in the process under examination, as well as documentary analysis. Deductive-inductive thematic analysis was performed on transcribed verbatim. The LD emerged from a professional movement which worked in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services in the initial phases of policy development and implementation. Over time, however, the decision making was centralized, consultation mechanisms became obsolete, and the relationships between different institutional actors became less cooperative. The discomfort and dissatisfaction with the Ministry’s new way of managing the Quebec breastfeeding policy triggered the emergence of a new parallel professional movement. The study concludes, however, that even in a highly institutionalized domain such as health, those committed to breastfeeding in the province could work together as they aim to reach the same goal, i.e., higher rates of breastfeeding. The initial consensual formulation of the LD proves that, in this particular institutional field, collaboration is possible.

Le comportement activiste des ONG libanaises : un essai sur la persistance du communautarisme / The activist behavior of the Lebanese NGOs : an essay on the persistence of communitarianism

Dagher, Walid Jalal 22 May 2015 (has links)
The economy of organizations examines the institutional mechanisms that lead to the production and exchange of goods and services. This thesis analyzes the mode of operation of NGOs which are specific to the Lebanese Society. It raises the following question: how can one explain the appeal of NGOs to the Lebanese people and the lure to use and benefit from its services? This thesis has demonstrated that these NGOs operate to achieve certain goals of political nature. The theory of political entrepreneurship applies to this concept and is considered as the theoretical framework of this dissertation. Accordingly, this thesis posits that a new political balance is achieved in the Lebanese society. In order to highlight the effectiveness of Lebanese NGOs, this thesis proposes an empirical methodology based on both quantitative and qualitative approach. The main objective of the proposed model is to underscore the existence of a relation between the perception of individuals benefiting form services rendered by NGOs and their sectarian affiliations. This dissertation reveals that the majority of people benefiting of NGOs services in Lebanon belong to a certain sect that favors people pertaining to its denomination in terms of redistribution. This signifies that the effects of sectarianism are still rampart in the Lebanese society. Lebanese NGOs can be considered as pressure groups that play an intermediary role on the Lebanese political scene. This intermediation of representative democracy allows a reconsideration of political strategies of pressure groups especially as to go beyond the norms of egalitarian representative democracy used in the Lebanese model of governance.
