School violence is more than physical: Examining predictors of school climate using a national school-to-prison pipeline surveyMack, Michayla 09 December 2022 (has links) (PDF)
While a large body of literature exists related to discrimination in schools and the school-to-prison pipeline, few studies connect this literature to perceptions of school climate. The purpose of this study is to examine middle and high school students’ perceptions of school climate using an intersectional theoretical framework. Participants include 812 middle and high school students across the United States. Exploratory principal axis factor analysis included four subscales: perceptions of attachment to school staff, perceptions of school environment, perceptions of school belonging, and perceptions of effective school staff. Linear regressions for each subscale were performed, and gender, racial, sexuality, and ability comparisons were established. Findings suggest that students diagnosed by a mental health professional, students placed in special education, and students that have been suspended and or expelled are more likely to perceive their school climate as unfavorable across the school climate subscales and school-to-prison pipeline demographic variables.

Tragedin bakom järnridån : Sudettyska socialdemokraters diskurser om fördrivning, förräderi och försoning i svensk exil 1944–1948 / The Tragedy Behind the Iron Curtain : Sudeten-German Social Democrats’ Discourses on Expulsion, Treason and Reconciliation in Swedish Exile 1944–1948Funke Gómez, Felix January 2024 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the emotional discourses of the association for Sudeten-German Social democrats in Swedish Exile (TG), which in its journal "Blätter" reported on the development of the group and the homeland lost in 1945. This study is limited to an examination of the discourse during the end of the war and the years immediately following, from 1944 to 1948. It also explains how the representatives of the association felt betrayed by so-called phenomena of rupture. The 'history of betrayal' goes back to 1918 and the peace treaties after the First World War, intensifies during the Munich Agreement in 1938 and finally reaches its climax when the Czechoslovak government in exile and even former comrades of the TG turn their backs and instead negotiate with the Soviet Union. This changes the discourse after the end of the war from a positivist perspective, with good connections to Czechoslovakia, to desperate appeals for reason to end the collective guilt, ethnic cleansing and finally develops into ironic anti-communist polemics, as the communists are structured as a scapegoat in the discourse. The anticommunism also serves an integrative function in the Swedish political and social democratic context. Ultimately the communist coup in Czechoslovakia of 1948 made the association feel vindicated in its ideals, but also felt melancholic, as the homeland was now considered lost forever. The purpose of the association is therefore limited to an integrative and culture-preserving function in exile. My research shows that the polemic against an omnipresent Other is more likely to serve the purpose of influencing the Swedish Social Democratic-led government to bring more Sudeten Germans to Sweden after the expulsion, so that a new homeland may be created there, than to directly provoke the Soviet Union or Czechoslovakia for change.

The Relationship between Student Discipline Disproportionality and High School Dropout RateWilson, Omega W. 02 October 2012 (has links)
Previous research has indicated that there is a possible relationship between disproportionality in student discipline and high school dropout rate. Using discipline and dropout data from a mid-Atlantic state school district, discipline disproportionality and dropout rate amongst high school African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian male and females over a period of four school years was examined. The findings indicated that there was indeed discipline disproportionality among African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian students. However, the evidence indicating a relationship between disproportionality and dropping out was not conclusive. Based on the findings, implications for educational practice are advanced. In addition, recommendations for further research are set forth. / Ed. Discours, intertextualite et altérité dans "Pourquoi as-tu laissé le cheval à sa solitude ?" de Mahmoud Darwich / Discourse, intertextuality and otherness in "Why did you leave the horse alone" of Mahmoud DarwichAmayra, Mahmoud 03 July 2019 (has links)
This study focuses on the analysis of identity discourse of Darwich’s collection : Why did you leave the horse alone? in order to know the nature of relationship that the me of Darwich maintains with the me of the Other. In other words, our collection looks like a “dialogue” where the me of Darwich and the me of the Other plunge into an argumentative discourse. To answer our question about the relationship between the two parts of dialogue, we have firstly chosen a theoretical approach: the presentation of the emblematic figure of Darwich perceived as one, having a personal, cultural, social and national identity, different from the identity of the other one. Secondly, through a practical point of view, the type of relationship between the two sides has been shown through the analysis of the corpus consisting of six groups.

Český periodický tisk na Chebsku v roce 1945 / Czech Periodical Press in Region off Cheb in Years 1945Dlouhá, Petra January 2012 (has links)
The main aim of my diploma thesis is to capture the development of the periodic press in Cheb after the end of the Second World War. It is a period which brought extensive demographic and socio-economic changes to Czechoslovakia and especially the border regions. That is why this topic must be set in a wider context. At the beginning, I describe the history of the Cheb region, which, from its earliest history, had a distinct position within our country. I also researched the general issue of Czech-German relations after the foundation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. A chapter in the thesis deals specifically with what happened during the Second World War in Cheb. The main emphasis is however on the first months in the Cheb region after the war. The reason for this is that it was a period of essential reversal in Cheb. Everything that used to be German was now to become Czech. It was essential for the newcomers to receive information in their mother tongue. The core of the thesis is the development of the Czech regional press in the Cheb region. In the year 1945 there only was a single journal published in Cheb - Chebsko. My thesis will present this journal, which first came out shortly after the end of the Second World War. I will also make a quantitative analysis of the first publishing...
