Efeito da prece de intercessão nas medidas de variáveis psicológicas, espirituais e biológica de pacientes com câncer de mama em tratamento de radioterapia: ensaio clínico / Effect of intercessory prayer\'s on measure of psychological variables, spiritual and biological of patients with breast cancer in radiotherapy treatment: clinical trial

Talita Prado Simão Miranda 29 September 2017 (has links)
The diagnosis of cancer, together with the organ that it affects, has significant implications as in the case of breast cancer for women, because it presents relationships with femininity and sexuality and the treatment process in search of cure, especially radiotherapy, indicated for at least half of the patients causes side effects that compromise the well being. Given this situation, women can experience feelings that lead to existential conflicts, affecting both their spiritual dimension, expressed by spiritual anguish, and their emotional dimension, which may favor the appearance of psychological morbidity. To address such a situation, women can make use of cognitive and behavioral strategies related to religiosity and spirituality, such as religious / spiritual coping. Yet, prayer can be used as religious resource and a mean of facing this new phase of life. However, the effects of prayer remain under questioning, and require further research. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of intercessory prayer in the measure of spiritual distress, psychological morbidity (anxiety and depression), religious / spiritual coping and salivary amylase patients with breast cancer undergoing radiotherapy. A randomized, double-blind clinical trial was conducted between September 2015 and May 2016. Participated 31 patients, being 16 allocated in the intervention group and 15 in the control group; was performed data collection in three times: before the intervention was implemented (T0), half (T1) and at the end of the sessions of the treatment of radiotherapy of each patient (T2), which includes the doses of reinforcement (boost). In the T0, data on sociodemographic, clinical and religious variables were collected, as well as on the spiritual distress, anxiety and hospital depression and religious / spiritual coping and salivary alpha-amylase scales, which complemented the assessment of anxiety. After T0, a group of six Christian individuals started a prayer in an extra-hospital environment at the frequency of one hour a day until the end of the treatment for those randomized in the intervention group. At the other times of the study, T1 and T2, the assessments were performed using the previously described instruments and salivary alpha-amylase. The variable spiritual anguish have presented significant changes, both in the post-test phase T2 in the intergroup analysis (p = 0.021) with size of the effect considered of great magnitude (ES = 0.962), and in the phases between post-test T2 with the T0 in the intragroup analysis (p = 0.004). Significant changes have been found in the religious / spiritual negative coping variables, both in the phases between T1 with T0 (p = 0.049) and between T2 with T0 (p = 0.028), as well as for total religious / spiritual coping between phases T2 and T0 (p = 0.014). Intercessory prayer was effective in decreasing spiritual distress and had effect on the scores of the religious / spiritual coping scale, that is, in the way of facing the lived experience, and using religious and spiritual strategies seeking to overcome the problem

José Pedro Lopes Teixeira 01 December 2008 (has links)
The general objective of this dissertation is to criticise the actual model of relation between the therapist and the patient , starting from fundamental elements of the Christian Religion in the point of therapeutic view. The research is qualitative phenomenological perspective. Obviously, there are different treatment modalities in spiritism, however the choice of the participants followed the pattern of volunteering without restricting the type of treatment undergone, gender, reason as to demand treatment or age. Participants were followed up at Spiritual Hospital Patrícia Bacelar (HEPB - Camaragibe / PE). As research instruments, the narrative from Walter Benjamin and the field diary were used to get access to treatment experience in spiritualism. The theoretical framework has been constructed based on the theory Frankl, who understands spirituality as the human dimension, in line with results of this research. To analyze the results, we used the philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer, who reached a final narrative constructed from the dialogue between the participants, the researcher and the theoretical framework that justified the search. Our results reveal an eminent search for other care that not only the doctor, as well as the use of religious resources as complementary to medical practice. Most of the reports demonstrated the continuity of medical treatments simultaneously spiritual treatment. In this context, the stimulus accountability of the individual for self-care while transcendence proved crucial for adherence to medical treatment as well as to overcome situations of intense suffering.

The Word and the Spirit : epistemological issues in the faith, health and wealth movement in Zambia

Chanda, Victor 01 1900 (has links)
The Faith Movement is a religious mosaic since it is a multi-layered phenomenon which is coloured by several themes. These themes represent several areas of emphasis like: Blessing and Blessings, Power to declare, Prophetic anointing, connecting with the anointing, dominion, success and increase, sowing the seeds, as well as other ideas which are still evolving. The Word of Faith teachers have a very unique way of reading the Bible. They usually approach the text without consideration of its historical and cultural context. When they approach the biblical text they usually assign to it an independent existence cut off from its natural context. This in turn results in the reinterpretation of all the major doctrines of the Christian faith. Both God and human beings belong to the same class of “divine beings.” God and human beings it is believed operate under the rule of faith. It is argued that whatever God created, God did so by speaking words of faith (see Genesis 1:1-3). It is therefore argued that human beings similarly can create their own reality and destiny by speaking words of faith.Christology and Pneumatology of the Faith Movement assume a rather narrow outlook. It is believed that Jesus Christ died so that in addition to the forgiveness of sins He provided for all spiritual and material needs of the people. Therefore, no Christian should be poor or sick. The Holy Spirit on the other hand, is the anointing that enables believers to make it in life. It must be pointed out that even though the Word of Faith ideas were exported to Africa mainly from the United States of America it has found a home in Africa. The concepts of blessings and curses have a corollary in African Religious Traditional thought. The role that Word of Faith preachers play is similar to the roles played by several religious experts in African Religious Thought. Ultimately, the Faith Movement is not based on sound theological and philosophical ground. It is based on unique reading of the Bible which is more esoteric than theological. More Gnostic than Christian. / Philosophy & Systematic Theology / D. Th. (Systematic Theology)

Nelly Hall: uppburen och ifrågasatt : Predikant och missionär i Europa och USA 1882-1901 / Nelly Hall: Esteemed and Questioned as a Preacher and Missionary in Europe and United States 1882-1901

Gunner, Gunilla January 2003 (has links)
In 19th century Sweden women preached in the popular revival movements as they did in the other Nordic countries, in Great Britain and the United States. One of the most famous preachers in Sweden was Nelly Hall (1848–1916). Internal and external evidence of her public life is the main focus of the study, and in this way it seeks to uncover the origin of her inspiration and to specify her connection to the spiritual movements of the time, at the same time that it analyses the reception and the debate of women as preachers in the period when she was active. Nelly Hall studied at the Royal School for Women’s Higher Teacher Education and worked as a teacher for ten years before she decided to enter into the ministry of preaching. She was influenced by the Anglo-American Holiness movement and had close contacts with the Salvation Army in London. From 1883 she travelled in the southern parts of Sweden. Thousands of people listened to her and as part of her ministry she practised faith healing. She went on preaching tours to Finland, Norway, Germany and the United States. When the Swedish Holiness Mission started as a small mission society in 1887 it was to some extent a result of the preaching work carried out by Nelly Hall. She was elected a member of the first board and worked as a mission secretary for ten years. Around 1900 there was a shift in her theological thinking and she became more absorbed by apocalyptic ideas. In 1901 she went for the second time to the United States and lived there until 1916 when she died in Brockton, Massachusetts. Little is known about the last fifteenth years of her life. The ministry of Nelly Hall and other women raised considerable public interest and in the Swedish context her time of ministry coincided with the emerging movement for the emancipation of women. Many were against women preaching in public and the discussions often occurred in the press. Parts of these discussions as well as several pamphlets in favour of women’s preaching are analysed in this study. /
Contains a summary in English

Gestaltterapia e experiência religiosa: relação e cura

Otaviano Bezerra Santana Filho 11 June 2014 (has links)

A practical-theological investigation of the nineteenth and twentieth century "faith theologies"

King, Paul Leslie 11 1900 (has links)
This thesis is a study of nineteenth and twentieth century faith theology and praxis, seeking to determine a balanced, healthy faith that is both sound in theology and effective in practice, Part 1 presents a history and sources of Faith Teaching and Practices. It first looks historically at the roots of later faith teaching and practice by presenting a sampling of teachings on faith from early church fathers, reformers, mystics, and Pietists. These form the foundation for the movements of faith in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries-the classic faith teaching, followed by the modern faith movement and leaders. Part 2 deals with the foundational issues of faith teaching and practice: the relationship of faith to the supernatural, the concept of the inheritance of the believer and the practice of claiming the promises of God, the nature of faith, and the authority of the believer and its inferences for faith praxis. Part 3 investigates seven major theological issues of faith teaching and practice: faith as a law and force, the object and source of faith, the relationship of faith and the will of God, distinguishing between a logos and a rhema word of God, the concepts of revelation and sense knowledge, the doctrine of healing in the atonement, the question of evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Part 4 examines major practical issues of faith teaching and practice about which controversy swirls: positive mental attitude and positive confession; issues of discernment in acting upon impressions, voices, revelations, and "words from the Lord;" questions of faith regarding sickness and healing, death, doctors and medicine; the relationships between sickness, suffering, healing, and sanctification; and prosperity. Part 5 reflects upon these issues and comes to final conclusions regarding: the role of hermeneutics in determining faith theology and praxis, how to handle unanswered prayers and apparent failures of faith, the seeming paradox and tension between claiming one's inheritance and dying to self, a summary of practical conclusions for exercise of healthy faith, and final conclusions and recommendations on developing a sound theology and practice of faith for the twenty-first century. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / D.Th.
