Na história das mulheres do ocidente, os corpos femininos, regidos e interpelados por normas que regulavam, sobretudo, sua sexualidade, foram compreendidos em pares de oposição: as mães e as prostitutas, as santas e as satanizadas. A umbanda, religião afro-brasileira detentora da capacidade de acolher os discursos e práticas da sociedade brasileira, incluiu essa dualidade em sua religiosidade, mas de maneira peculiar: a pombagira foi corporificada na figura de uma prostituta sagrada e passou a ser cultuada em lugar de destaque por seus fieis. A partir de trabalho de campo em terreiros de umbanda do estado de São Paulo, foram realizadas entrevistas com médiuns, pais e mães-de-santo, bem como com as próprias pombagiras incorporadas para compreender os sentidos associados ao culto das pombagiras. A análise dos dados contou com a combinação do método etnográfico a uma escuta psicanalítica lacaniana para investigar a participação da pombagira na vida dos adeptos da religião. O trabalho apresenta como, na interação com a pombagira, o ser mulher é associado à sedução, à força, à beleza, ao sexo, ao desejo, à inteligência e, inclusive, à maternidade, integrando sentidos dissociados pelas dicotomias mencionadas. Por meio de uma narrativa atenta ao sensível e incluindo a vivência da própria pesquisadora na interação com os grupos pesquisados, o trabalho apresenta uma compreensão etnopsicológica de gênero ao dar ouvidos a sentidos que se elaboram no contexto umbandista, circulam socialmente e ressoam intimamente. / In the history of the western women, female bodies, especially governed by their sexuality, were conceived in opposite pairs: the mothers and the prostitutes, the saints and the demoness. The umbanda, an afrobrazilian religion that holds the discourses and practices of Brazilian society, included this duality in its religiosity, but in a peculiar way: the pombagira is embodied in the figure of a sacred prostitute and is worshiped in prominent place by faithfuls of this religion. In umbandas terreiros in the state of São Paulo, we interviewed spiritualist mediuns as well as embodied pombagiras to understand the meanings associated with the cult of the pombagiras. The data were analyzed from a combination of the ethnographic method and the lacanian psychoanalytic listening to investigate how pombagiras participate in the life of the supporters of this religion. This work presents how, through the relationship with the pombagira, the woman being is associated with the seduction, the strength, the beauty, the sex, the desire, the intelligence and even the maternity, integrating the decoupled senses with the mentioned dichotomy. The pombagiras meanings produce senses that build the personal experiences of their faithfuls. Using a narrative that concerns the sensible and by the researchers experience in the relationship with the surveyed groups, this work presents an ethnopsychological comprehension of the gender and considers the senses that are elaborated in the umbanda and that circulate socially.

The thesis addresses analysis of stories and narrative in relation to the subject of gender. This analysis primarily deals with fairy tale The Beauty and the Beast by Disney. The first part is about general theoretical basis for my thesis and about the most important authors in this field. Archetypes and logocentrism topics are dealt with partially as well. The foundations of the first part are however literary and motion-picture feministic theories, also the concept of the myth of beauty. In the practical part sequences of the The Beast and the Beauty are studied. Findings described in theoretical part is utilized here and the marked and subtle influence of androcentric culture on style and content of the story is shown.

The central theme of this diploma thesis are male organizations and although some of them are already long decades old their presence is quite unknown phenomenon among majority of people, so much they stand behind their female counterparts. Therefore I decided to introduce male organizations and areas of their interest, the main goal of this diploma thesis is to create a typology of male organizations in the Czech Republic. The work issues from specification of the terms "masculinity" and "male organizations of civil society", carried out on the basis of publicized theoretical knowledge and my own experience. I begin with organizations of the so-called traditional type to pass on those that are considered to be the so-called new ones and their origin is closely associated with woman's emancipation caused by an expansion of feminism in the last decades of the past century. In connection with the existence of these new organizations it was discussed a concept of the so-called new masculinity for the first time. In the part of my work related to the goal's fulfillment I introduce all male organizations in the Czech Republic and the basis of analyze I create their typology. Sex-role identity and relationship satisfaction

People spend substantial parts of their life in a close dyadic relationship. The results range from the fulfillment of emotional, intellectual, social and physical needs, to physical and emotional abuse. The study clarifies the association between sex-role identity type, with its two traits (masculinity and femininity), and relationship satisfaction, at the dyadic level. The latter implies a focus on the identical (or different) levels of presence of the two constructs among partners in couples. Extraneous factors and personal (non-dyadic) effects are covered in addition. The two main variables are evaluated with the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) and Spanier's Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS). In each case, a second instrument was administered for validation. The survey-type study followed a correlational, cross-sectional design. The main purposes have been to test new theoretical frameworks against empirical data, and knowledge production. A three-pronged approach included: an extensive literature review to identify methodological and knowledge gaps; a theory-driven design and methodology to ensure a sound study; and empirical data collection to verify the theoretical position through hypothesis testing. Likely sources of bias were countered by involving balanced numbers of male and female, and homosexual and heterosexual respondents, from non-student populations, over a wide age range, and living in close relationships spanning at least two years. The correlational design and relatively small sub-samples dictated the application of descriptive frequencies, and chi-square, variance (ANOVA) and regression analyses, as statistical techniques. The findings emerged as more similar than different for homosexual and heterosexual participants. This implies that homosexuals are not a deviant group, but equally able to achieve happiness. Congruent (identical) sex-role identity traits between partners were not strong(est) in predicting satisfaction. However, femininity and androgyny, as highest adaptive type, and identical sex-role identity types between partners did. As a result, the initial sex-role identity congruence theory has been modified into the adaptive femininity trait theory. Married heterosexual women face a predicament. While for them an undifferentiated sex-role identity type correlates with their husbands' happiness, and their own unhappiness, the inverse applies to their femininity and androgyny. À cheval entre nature et culture, le poil et la chevelure humaine condensent un grand ensemble d’enjeux symboliques relevant de questions identitaires, religieuses, scientifiques, et autres. L’étude des discours et des pratiques concernant le poil représente, pour l’historien, une fenêtre sur l’évolution des mentalités d’une société donnée en ce qui concerne les perceptions de soi et de l’autre. S’inscrivant dans le courant intellectuel de l’histoire du corps, cette thèse s’attarde plus précisément aux « systèmes trichologiques » dans la France de l’époque moderne (soit du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle). Elle se fonde sur l’analyse d’une grande variété de sources permettant de recouper différents types de discours touchant au poil : point de vue scientifique des médecins, physiognomonistes et historiens, point de vue prescriptif des traités d’éducation et de civilité, contrepoint exotique des récits de voyage et autre témoignages de « curiosités » ainsi qu’un suivi de l’évolution étymologique des mots pertinents au sein de dictionnaires et encyclopédies. La question centrale de cette thèse est celle du rôle du poil dans le façonnement de représentations servant à identifier, démarquer et hiérarchiser les groupes sociaux; et comment celles-ci évoluent de concert avec d’autres transformations historiques.Le premier chapitre s’attarde au poil comme marqueur de différences individuelles. On y retrace une sorte de « langage » du poil, recensant les significations et connotations rattachées aux diverses manifestations pileuses : couleur, longueur, abondance, forme. Il y a apparait clairement que le poil joue un rôle important tant dans la mise en scène de soi que dans la lecture de l’apparence physique de l’autre. Le deuxième chapitre s’intéresse au poil en tant que marqueur de « genre ». On y examine la contribution des représentations de la pilosité dans la construction des identités masculines et féminines. Le poil s’interprète comme une manifestation extérieure de la nature des différents sexes et de leurs rôles dans la société, ce qui en fait un enjeu dans les relations de pouvoir entre les sexes et entre les gens du même sexe. Le troisième chapitre aborde le poil en ce qu’il permet de délimiter et hiérarchiser les classes sociales. On le voit participer aux modes et au processus de discipline des corps qui permettent aux élites, avec les perruques et le raffinement des conduites et des pratiques d’embellissement, de se distinguer autrement que par les vêtements. On retrace également une politique du poil qui s’étend au-delà du regard, l’état s’accordant le droit d’agir directement sur les corps – les chevelures, les poils – de ses sujets. Le dernier chapitre explore l’instrumentalisation du poil dans la construction d’un « autre » lointain et anormal : le sauvage d’outre-mer, l’enfant-loup, l’aberration de la nature. En caractérisant les poils de cas qu’ils situent aux frontières de l’humanité, les Français de l’Ancien régime exposent leurs propres présupposés sur la normalité et la civilisation. / Both natural and cultural phenomenon, human hair condenses a wide array of symbolic issues relating to notions of identity, religion, science, etc. The analysis of discourses and practices concerning hair affords the historian a window to the evolution of a given society’s attitudes towards the self and others. Following the historiographical current of the history of the body, this thesis examines the “trichological systems” of modern France (16th to 18th centuries). It is based on the survey of a wide variety of sources, allowing the comparison of different types of hair-related discourses: the scientific point of view of physicians, physiognomonists and historians; the prescriptive point of view of education and civility treatises; the exotic counterpoint of travel narratives and other writings on “curiosities”, as well as a review of the etymological evolution of relevant words in dictionaries and encyclopedia. The central question in this dissertation concerns the role of hair in the construction of representations used in identifying, distinguishing and hierarching social groups; and how these representations evolve along other historical transformations. The first chapter highlights hair’s role as marker of individual differences. A “language of hair” is exposed, inventorying meanings and connotations attached to the various factors of hairy manifestations: color, length, affluence, shape. The importance of hair in the staging of the self and the reading of others is highlighted. The second chapter explores the contribution of hair in the construction of gendered identities. Hair is interpreted as an outward sign of the sexes’ different natures and the confirmation of their respective social roles. As such, it is a tool in the negotiation of power between and within genders. The third chapter examines hair as it is used in the demarcation of social classes. It is seen as participating in the process of body discipline of the French elite. The use of wigs alongside refined hair care emphasized their distinction from lower classes beyond the traditional means of clothing. Direct state regulations on the hair of its subjects also show that trichological politics don’t limit themselves to the gaze. The finale chapter highlights the instrumentalization of hair in the construction of faraway and abnormal “other”: the oversea savage, the wolf child, the natural aberration. By characterizing the hair of beings at the frontier of humanity, Ancien Régime French expose their own presuppositions on normality and civilization.

Separatism som strategi för utökat handlingsutrymme? : En kvalitativ studie om det kvinnoseparatistiska musikrummets potential och paradoxer

The purpose of this essey is to investigate whether and if so how women's separatist music rooms can create an extended acting space for female musicians. To do this, I have conducted an interview study of organizers and former music participants at the organizations Popkollo and Femtastic. The analytical discussions is held with the theoretical approach of Judith Butler's "heterosexual matrix" and Cecilia Björck's interpretation of Michel Foucault's "The gender disciplinary gaze". The results show that the main reason to choose women's separatist music room has been a longing to ”take place” and to ”get to the be yourself". Furthermore, the results show that the room enabled a liberation from outsiders ideal images of the "mild" and "fragile" female musician, whereupon more expressive positions was made possible. The study also reveald a dilemma in a balance to be liberated, but at the same time adapt to popular music gender-coded ideals. Furthermore the results show that in this context it is sometimes perceived as disfavouring to be coded as both a female artist and a feminist. This is because of the tendency to be seen and treated as a homogenous group with a common political agenda. Finally, I note, however, that women's separatist music room at least can create possibilities for an extended acting space as the informants has expressed a development both personally and musically.

Text in French; abstract in French and English / Observatrice des réalités quotidiennes camerounaises, Calixthe Beyala a publié, en 1987, un roman intitulé C’est le soleil qui m’a brûlée. Dans ce roman, elle montre au lecteur comment la femme, victime de la tradition, utilise, avec l’apport de la modernité, son corps comme moyen pour reconquérir son moi profond, et retrouver sa liberté. En 1994, elle a écrit et publié Assѐze, l’Africaine. Et en 2003, elle a publié Femme nue, femme noire. Après une lecture minutieuse de ces trois livres, le lecteur peut facilement découvrir que Calixthe Beyala place la femme au centre de sa préoccupation littéraire. Et elle examine, dans sa fiction, deux thѐmes: la tradition et la modernité. Qu’entend-elle par tradition et modernité? Comment examine-t-elle ces deux thѐmes dans les ouvrages de notre corpus? Quelles solutions propose-t-elle à la femme, d’une part, pour se libérer du joug de la tradition et de la domination masculine, et d’autre part, pour (re)conquérir son corps, son moi profond et pour son émancipation? / Observer of the daily Cameroonian realities, Calixthe Beyala published, in 1987, a novel entitled C’est le soleil qui m’a brûlée. In this novel, she shows the reader how a woman, victim of tradition, uses her body as means to reconquer herself and to find her freedom. In 1994, she wrote and published Assèze, l’Africane. And in 2003, she published Femme nue, femme noire. After a careful reading of the three novels, the reader can easily discover that Calixthe Beyala places woman in the center of her literary preoccupation. And she examines, in her fiction, two themes, tradition and modernity. What does she mean by tradition and modernity? How does she examine these two themes in the novels of our study?
