in Suid-Afrika. Eerstens was daar die
Daar is tans vier aparte outonome rassekerke.
'n Sesde
konstitusionele opset, een PPK, word tans beding. / The Pentecostal Protestant Church (PPC) is part of the worldwide Pentecostal Movement and
originated from the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM), the largest Pentecostal Church in South
Afiica, on October 10, 1958. There are various reasons that contributed to the birth of the church.
Firstly, the AFM removed on purpose the obstacles that stood in the way in order to be
acknowledge as a church by the Dutch Reformed Church. The party-political involvement of
pastor Gerrie Wessels, an Executive Council member of the AFM, was the second main reason.
The writer indicates how racism and Apartheid took root in the ecclesiology and missiology of
the PPC. At the moment there are four separate outonomous race churches. The main reason for
a not united church is racism. The church had five different constitutions in the course of her
history in an attempt to bring forth unity, but without success. A six constitutional design for one
PPC is currently being negotiated. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Th. (Sendingwetenskap)

Cyprianus se kerkbegripKruger, Hendrik Gerhardus Stefanus 12 1900 (has links)
kerkbegrip aangedui.
van die episkopaat; die betekenis van die biskop;
primaat. Cyprianus se Bybelse verbintenis, sowel as
kerk as instituut egter onontbeerlik. Spanning
The theme of this study reveals the tension to be
found between the church as institution and the
church of the Spirit, in the ecclesiology of
Cyprian. Chapter one shows the influence which
Tertullian, as tutor, exerted on Cyprian. The
ecclesiology of Tertullian also reveals the tension
which is produced by the change of membership from
Catholicism to Montanism. Tertullian's ecclesiology
is highlighted from two different perspectives.
Firstly from a Catholic view, with the focus on the
fundamentals of the true church, and the authority
and power of the church to forgive sins. Secondly,
a Montanist view is proposed, which defines the true
church, and the power it yields in forgiving sins,
as being exclusively spiritual in nature. Chapter
two describes the environment in which Cyprian
worked. This includes a biography of Cyprian, as
well as the African religion and people. Secondly
the European influence is shown on Cyprian's
ecclesiology. The influence exerted by the Roman
state model is also clearly seen. The major
influence though, was exercised by the Roman church
model, on account of the dynamics of the Roman
church. Chapter three describes Cyprian's
ecclesiology. The tension between the church as
institute and the church of the Spirit is revealed
in a discussion on the episcopacy; the significance
of the bishop; Cyprian's view on authority and his
perspective on the primacy. Cyprian's biblical
connection, as well as the two historical lines,
namely the Pauline and Petrine lines, put his salus
extra ecclesiam non est pronouncement in
perspective.
ecclesiology
the unity of
Cyprian's view is primarily that of a
of the Spirit. In his striving towards
the church though, he finds the church
as institute to be indispensable. Tension develops
in his endeavor to form a synthesis between the two. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. Th.

Founding and re-founding : a problem in Rousseau's political thought and actionHill, Mark J. January 2015 (has links)
protein chemistry, unnatural amino acids, chemical biology, proteomicsThe foundation of political societies is a central theme in Rousseau's work. This is no surprise coming from a man who was born into a people who had their own celebrated founder and foundations, and immersed himself in the writings of classical republicans and the quasi-mythical histories of ancient city-states where the heroic lawgiver played an important and legitimate role in political foundations. However, Rousseau's propositional political writings (those written for Geneva, Corsica, and Poland) have been accused of being unsystematic and running the spectrum from conservative and prudent to radical and utopian. It is this seeming incongruence which is the subject of this thesis. In particular, it is argued that this confusion is born out the failure to recognize a systematic distinction between "founding" and "re-founding" political societies in both the history of political thought, and Rousseau's own work (a distinction in Rousseau which has rarely been noted, let alone treated to a study of its own). By recognizing this distinction one can identify two Rousseaus; the conservative and prudent thinker who is wary of making changes to established political systems and constitutional foundations (the re-founder), and the radical democrat fighting for equality, and claiming that no state is legitimate without popular sovereignty (the founder). In demonstrating this distinction, this thesis examines the ancient concept of the lawgiver, the growth and expansion of the idea leading up to the eighteenth century, Rousseau's own philosophic writings on the topic, and the differing political proposals he wrote for Geneva, Corsica, and Poland. The thesis argues that although there is a clear separation between these two types of political proposals, they remain systematically Rousseauvian.

Hybridation et goulots d'étranglements induits par l'activité humaine : génétique des populations, morphométrie et parasitologie appliquées au tilapia envahi et envahissant Oreochromis mossambicus (Teleostei, Cichlidae) / Human-induced hybridization and population bottleneck : population genetics, morphometrics and parasitology applied to the invaded and invasive tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus (Teleostei, Cichlidae)Firmat, Cyril 04 November 2011 (has links)
Biological invasions are recognized as a significant evolutionary factor over short time scales. In particular, their effect is well recorded on the genetic structure of populations, the patterns of phenotypic evolution and the richness of parasite fauna associated to invasive populations. This study aims at quantifying the consequences of a biological invasion according to these three levels (genetical, phenotypical and parasitological) taking as example the Mozambique tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus. This African cichlid is characterized by an unusual conservation status since it is both (i) ranked among the world’s worst invasive species due to its global dispersion during the 20th century and (ii) sorted as “near-threatened” (IUCN) over its native range (a part of south-east Africa) because of massive hybridization with alien introduced Oreochromis species. The approach used in this study imply to describe the recent history of populations using nuclear (AFLP) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) markers, and then to compare this genetic background to results describing the morphological and parasitological diversity of populations. Two different biological systems were studied: 1) Within the native range, the study focuses on the Lower Limpopo and the Changane sub-drainage (Mozambique). Introgression patterns involving the three co-occurring species were detected, but the frequency of hybrid is low and their geographic expansion is limited. These results provided rather good auspices for the conservation of O. mossambicus, and they allowed to identify two zones of high conservation priorities. The parasitological survey reveals high parasite richness and low prevalences among sites of low conservation values. This last pattern could favour the success of alien introduced species and their hybrids. 2) Among the invasive range of O. mossambicus, both AFLP and mtDNA support a strong genetic homogeneity and a low genetic diversity, a pattern interpreted as resulting from a strong population bottleneck preceding the events of global dispersion. A pattern of population structure related to large scale geography (New Caledonia, Guadeloupe, Jamaica) is nevertheless detected. Body shape variation is also primarily structured at large geographical scale, suggesting a role for genetic constrains on contemporary morphological diversification. The total absence of monogenean parasites in the populations of New Caledonia could result from a founding event and is suggested as a potential factor that could have favoured the O. mossambicus’ success. In conclusion, a low genetic diversity does not likely constraint a strong invasive potential and a rapid phenotypic diversification in tilapias.

A inserção da FAUUSP no campo de arquitetura e urbanismo em São Paulo: as contribuições de Anhaia Mello e Vilanova Artigas / The insertion of FAUUSP in the field of architecture and urbanism in São Paulo: the contributions of Anhaia Mello and Vilanova ArtigasRenata Monteiro Siqueira 06 April 2015 (has links)
This study aims to analyse the insertion of the Architecture and Urban Planning School in the University of São Paulo, FAUUSP, in the field of architecture and urban planning in São Paulo, through the contribution of two of its main founders, Luiz Inácio Romeiro de Anhaia Mello (1891-1974) and João Batista Vilanova Artigas (1915-1985). Both were architect engineers from de Polytechnic School of São Paulo, although they belonged to different generations. In his professional life, Anhaia Mello became an acknowledged urban planner, defending the institutionalization of this policy inspired on the north-ameri- can regional planning. Artigas was Anhaia Mello´s student and assistant and later became one of the most respected architects in the Modern Movement in São Paulo. It is intended to verify how the differences and convergences of their thoughts, linked to distinct intellec- tual references, interfered in the configuration of the new teaching institution, reflecting on the larger debate on the field of architecture and urban planning´s consolidation. To do so it was resorted to a vast bibliographical consultation and also to document analysis from the studied period which has as milestones the years of 1948, year of the establishment of FAUUSP, and 1962, when an education reform was implemented as to consolidate the idea of one field where the scales of the object, building and city were subordinated to the project activity. Around 1940, internal and external factors to the university lead to a demand for the creation of an architecture school independent from the Polytechnic School, with the cor- respondent extinction of the course of architect engineers that existed since 1894. Anhaia Mello, one of the main teachers of the Polytechnic School since 1926, was designated to coordinate the founding of the new school and invited Artigas to participate on this process. Despite the different ideas of these two professionals, their meeting at FAUUSP did not expose a debate or displayed the divergences, suggesting a continuity among architecture and urbanism. The intended hypothesis to defend is that, despite the different perspectives around both disciplines, the reunion of architecture and urbanism at FAUUSP was part of a strategy for both fields willing to obtain autonomy from engineering and the Polytechnic School and the consolidation of certain principles, in order to benefit specific visions of architecture and urbanism. Therefore, the constitution of only one institutional field at the new school actually revealed an arena of multiple interests, not always convergent to the goals of a range of professional activities very different from each other.

Thomas Pynchon ou les territoires de la faille / Thomas Pynchon or the territories of the faultMeresse, Bastien 02 December 2017 (has links)
» / As a picaresque cartographer standing astride the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, Thomas Ruggles Pynchon Jr. stresses the flawed origin and entropic trajectory of the American continent, seven generations after the great Puritan migration to which his forebear William participated. This dissertation aims to recast the way his work defines these latent figures of the American fault, an “inherent vice,” for such is the title of his penultimate novel, in order to recover the lost prairie of the past and recompose an idealized counter-space within the realm of fiction. This work will consider how the notion of phantasmagoria inhabits a cityscape overcoded by optical devices and deceitful distortions that can only be resisted by the flâneur’s politics of loitering. By exposing the dreamworld of this city upon a hill, Pynchon delves into the depths of the continent and starts a stratigraphic study of America: geological fault-lines engage in a dialogue with deficient founding myths and fracture the revered geography of the continent, signaling the defective nature of its space but also of its time, permeated by the cracks of the crisis. To face the failure of founding narratives and the spasms of History, Pynchon’s work unfolds new modalities that, while not essential to narrative, disrupt reading procedures and suffuse his historical novels with the forking paths and counterfactuals of the “Subjunctive” form.

Paul Renner and Futura: The Effects of Culture, Technology, and Social Continuity on the Design of Type for PrintingLeonard, Charles C. 12 January 2006 (has links)
This thesis reviews the circumstances that led to what Paul Renner called “the inflation of historicism,” places his response to that problem in the context of the Weimar Republic, details how the German attributes with which he began the project were displaced from the typeface that emerged in 1927, demonstrates that Futura belongs to a new category of serif-less roman fonts rooted in Arts and Crafts lettering, and considers why the specifically German aspects of the project have gone unrecognized for over seventy years. Renner’s writing is compared to ideas prevalent in early twentieth-century German cultural discourse, and Futura’s design process is placed in the context of Renner’s personal experience of Weimar’s social and economic crises. Objective measurements are employed to establish the relationship between drawings attributed to Renner and are used to compare features of Futura with other fonts of the period.

From the Roman Republic to the American Revolution : readings of Cicero in the political thought of James WilsonWilson, Laurie Ann January 2010 (has links)
As a classical scholar and prominent founding father, James Wilson was at once statesman, judge, and political thinker, who read Cicero as an example worthy of emulation and as a philosopher whose theory could be applied to his own age. Classical reception studies have focused on questions of liberty, civic virtue, and constitutionalism in the American founding, and historians have also noted Wilson’s importance in American history and thought. Wilson’s direct engagement with Cicero’s works, however, and their significance in the formulation of his own philosophy has been long overlooked. My thesis argues that Wilson’s viewpoint was largely based on his readings of Cicero and can only be properly understood within this context. In the first two chapters of my thesis I demonstrate that Wilson not only possessed a wide-ranging knowledge of the classics in general, but also that he borrowed from Cicero’s writings and directly engaged with the texts themselves. Building upon this foundation, chapters three and four examine Cicero’s perspective on popular sovereignty and civic virtue, situate Wilson’s interpretations within contemporary discussions of Roman politics, and analyse the main ways in which he adapts Cicero’s arguments to his own era. Wilson retains a broader faith in the common people than seen in Cicero’s opinions, and he abstracts from Cicero a doctrine of sovereignty as an indivisible principle that is absent in the text; nevertheless, Cicero’s conception of a legitimate state and his insistence on the role of the people provided the foundation for Wilson’s thought and ultimately for his legitimization of the American Revolution. At the same time, like Cicero, Wilson views the stability of the state as resting in the personal virtue of the individual. While his enlightenment philosophy imparts optimism to his conception of the good citizen, his definition of virtue closely follows that of Cicero. As the final chapter of my thesis concludes, their individual interpretations of these theories of popular consent and virtue were instrumental in forming Cicero’s and Wilson’s justifications of civil disobedience.
