Feasibility Study of Separate Gas Turbine Generator Market in India - A Case Study of Green Power Engineering Company

Dash, Ranjit 29 August 2008 (has links)
The Government of India has an ambitious mission of ¡¥power for all by 2012¡¦. This mission would require that the installed generation capacity should be at least 200,000 MW by 2012 from the present level of 114,000 MW. To be able to deliver this power to the entire nation, an expansion of the regional transmission grid-network and inter regional capacity to transmit power would be essential. The latter is required because resources are unevenly distributed in the country and power needs to be transmitted through great distances to areas where load centres exist. Indian government¡¦s ambitious plan can be met. Power generation is one thing but distribution and last mile delivery is a real challenge in remote rural India. 70% of India still lives in such rural settings. India is also notorious for loss of power in distribution due to its out dated distribution infrastructure and mismanagement. A lot is being done to improve the situation however to fast remedy the problem; government and private players can play an important role in setting up small power plants that are based on eco-friendly and efficient mode of power generation. India¡¦s western states and North eastern states are rich in natural gas. Unfortunately these areas are also remote, especially the North Eastern sector. Delivering power is quite a challenge. In search for a solution to this challenge we could be wise to choose greener solutions than otherwise. In the quest of which solution would be suitable for the chosen project, one could look across an array of available conventional and non-conventional sources of energy. Utilizing the locally available natural gas would be a right strategy. It also suits as a green choice. To exploit the availability of natural gas we would need technologies that are of right scale and are easily executable. A multi-million dollar mega gas power generation plant is neither plausible nor executable in those rural settings; however something of a smaller scale could be a good fit. There we see an opportunity for a green technology that may work wonder. Taiwan based Green Power Engineering Corporation has a solution in the form of their cutting edge gas turbine generator. With ease of setup and efficiency coupled with eco-friendly technology, the Gas turbine generators has the potential to be the solution to the much needed rural development by providing them continuous power.

Bengtsson, Mattias, Andersen, Kristian January 2014 (has links)
On board vessels it is not desirable to have a power failure, a so-called blackout. The thesis has investigated to what extent it is feasible to perform comparative and preventive studies with the accident reports from European flag states as a basis. This in order to investigate recurring shortcomings, of the vessels or in the work on board that has caused the blackout. In addition the possibility to categorize the cases was investigated. The categories were technical errors, operational errors and organization errors. Roughly half of the cases show that a single category of fault could not be identified due to a combination of faults leading to the blackout. However there are recurring cases with almost identical scenarios. For example unsatisfactory insulation caused fires due to leaking fuel hitting the hot surfaces. The survey shows that there is a lack of symmetry regarding the language used, structure, scope and form of publication. It also showed faults in the search engines of the databases.

Electro-mechanical interaction in gas turbine-generator systems for more-electric aircraft

Feehally, Thomas January 2012 (has links)
Modern 'more-electric' aircraft demand increased levels of electrical power as non-propulsive power systems are replaced with electrical equivalents. This electrical power is provided by electrical generators, driven via a mechanical transmission system, from a rotating spool in the gas turbine core. A wide range of electrical loads exist throughout the aircraft, which may be pulsating and high powered, and this electrical power demand is transferred though the generators to produce a torque load on the drivetrain. The mechanical components of the drivetrain are designed for minimum mass and so are susceptible to fatigue, therefore the electrical loading existing on modern airframes may induce fatigue in key mechanical components and excite system resonances in both mechanical and electrical domains. This electro-mechanical interaction could lead to a reduced lifespan for mechanical components and electrical network instability. This project investigates electro-mechanical interaction in the electrical power offtake from large diameter aero gas turbines. High fidelity modelling of the drivetrain, and generator, allow the prediction of system resonances for a generic gas turbine-generator system. A Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is considered and modelled. DFIGs offer opportunities due to their fast dynamics and their ability to decouple electrical and mechanical frequencies (e.g. enabling a constant frequency electrical system with a variable speed mechanical drive). A test platform is produced which is representative of a large diameter gas turbine and reproduces the electro-mechanical system behaviour. The test platform is scaled with respect to speed and power but maintains realistic sizing between component dimensions which include: a gas turbine mechanical spool emulation, transmission driveshafts and gearbox, and accessory loads such as a generator. This test platform is used to validate theoretical understanding and suggest alternative mechanical configurations, and generator control schemes, for the mitigation of electro-mechanical interaction. The novel use of a DFIG and an understanding of electro-mechanical interaction allow future aircraft designs to benefit from the increased electrification of systems by ensuring that sufficient electrical power can be provided by a robust gas turbine-generator system.

Personalized Poetry Generator : Development of a mobile application for Android called Deleteby Haiku which generate poems in the Japanese poetry form haiku based on user’s SMS-logs / Personlig poesigenerator

Hagnell, Fredrik, Zander, Karl-Axel January 2013 (has links)
Researchers at Mobile Life Centre are working on a project called “Delete by Haiku - Concept development and visualization of persistence/an SMS log dilemma” (subproject of “Re-Mobiling -breaking apart time and technology”, 2012-). The purpose of that project is to evaluate an approach of handling the growing amount of users’ digital data in phones (especially SMS logs) by trying to create, in the deletion process of old SMS, something potentially meaningful in a playful manner: poems. The students’ project aimed to develop a concretized demo for their idea, an SMS log deleting and poetry generating application, more particularly the Japanese poetry form “haiku” as chosen style, developed on the mobile platform Android. The goal: to give the researchers a basis to proceed with into the user study and demonstration phase of their project. The result of the development process was a full scale working demo application, although naturally left with many improvement and addition possibilities due to the limited time plan for the student project, and presentation of solved solutions of arisen programming and design implementation challenges.

Schwurack, Roy 29 June 2021 (has links)

Konstruktion av lagerlösning till en TFM generator för vindkraft / Design of the bearing solution for a TFM generator for wind power

Hedberg, Joakim, Rundström, Per January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this Bachelor thesis project is the design of a bearing solution for a TFM generator [1], developed by Anders Hagnestål at KTH, suitable for windand wave power. The generator produces inner electromagnetic forces that puts stress on the generators architecture. The bearings will have an essential role in withstanding the force from the electromagnets. The most suitable solution was a hybrid axial bearing since the electromagnetic forces are mainly in the axial direction. The hybrid bearing consists of ceramic balls and a steel bearing race, a combination being able to withstand pressures better than axial bearings with steel balls. Ceramic balls are mainly used to avoid electrical discharges between the bearing race and balls. These discharges occur due to switchtransients in the current from the powerelectronic system. The placement of the bearing in the generator is of great importance and has to be considered to minimize the displacement of the rotor discs. The project is focused on analyzing the displacement of the rotor disc and the area with greatest pressure in the bearing, this area occurs in the contact point between the ceramic ball and the steel bearing race. Hertzian contact pressure was used for the contact pressure between the ball and the bearing race and the Finite Element Method for calculating the displacement of the rotor disc.

Synthetic generators for simulating social networks

Ali, Awrad Mohammed 01 January 2014 (has links)
An application area of increasing importance is creating agent-based simulations to model human societies. One component of developing these simulations is the ability to generate realistic human social networks. Online social networking websites, such as Facebook, Google+, and Twitter, have increased in popularity in the last decade. Despite the increase in online social networking tools and the importance of studying human behavior in these networks, collecting data directly from these networks is not always feasible due to privacy concerns. Previous work in this area has primarily been limited to 1) network generators that aim to duplicate a small subset of the original network's properties and 2) problem-specific generators for applications such as the evaluation of community detection algorithms. In this thesis, we extended two synthetic network generators to enable them to duplicate the properties of a specific dataset. In the first generator, we consider feature similarity and label homophily among individuals when forming links. The second generator is designed to handle multiplex networks that contain different link types. We evaluate the performance of both generators on existing real-world social network datasets, as well as comparing our methods with a related synthetic network generator. In this thesis, we demonstrate that the proposed synthetic network generators are both time efficient and require only limited parameter optimization.
