Advanced control for power density maximization of the brushless DC generator

Lee, Hyung-Woo 17 February 2005 (has links)
This dissertation proposes a novel control technique for power density maximization of the brushless DC (BLDC) generator which is a nonsinusoidal power supply system. In a generator of given rating, the weight and size of the system affect the fuel consumption directly, therefore power density is one of the most important issues in a stand-alone generator. Conventional rectification methods cannot achieve the maximum power possible because of a distorted or unsuitable current waveform. The optimal current waveform for maximizing power density and minimizing machine size and weight in a nonsinusoidal power supply system has been proposed theoretically and verified by simulation and experimental work. Also, various attributes of practical interest are analyzed and simulated to investigate the impact on real systems.

The Design Verification Methodology for an Advanced Microprocessor

Zhong, Jing-Kun 22 August 2008 (has links)
According to references, testing and verification of a hardware circuit project occupy about 60%˜70% of project time. Now that product cycle time is decreasing, verification methodology is an important parameter for effective and successful completion of a design project. Enhanced processor functions also make verification conditions more difficult. In this thesis the processor SYS32IME III, which is constructed based on architecture of ARM 1022E, is verified by using V5TE instruction set. This thesis focus on processor verification flow and others to help verification method. The verification language that is used to help generate testbench are described in this paper. Also, corner cases are generated, producing test cases that may be reused in different verification environments. Lastly, errors from CPU architecture, verification environments, interface wrapper and instruction set simulator were found in different verification environment and fixed. To conclude the study, insertion of self-implemented RTL monitor circuit into CPU architecture supply verification information about testbench¡¦s coverage of functional verification.

Architecture Descriptions for Retargetable Code Translation

Ravindra, D V 04 1900 (has links)
The study of architectural parameterization has long neglected other parameterizations in favour of code selector descriptions. In this dissertation, we are concerned with providing linguistic notations for modelling architectures with special emphasis on translation. We focus on high level descriptions to aid code selection and storage allocation. The view taken in the thesis is that a description specializes a framework with a particular architecture. Independently, the framework must support other translation algorithms without constraining their freedom or forcing them towards architecture-specific idioms. The first contribution is an architectural description language with features tuned towards better parameterizability. Emphasis is laid on addressing site (compile time) parameterizability. Within the notation, the type system of the machine is decoupled from that of the language with the mapping being left to the user as a compile-time parameterization. This gives one more degree of freedom for the user to decide on the precision required based on the available realizations. We also give adequate representation to addressing modes. They are considered to be almost equivalent to operations in complexity. This makes the specification simpler for operations. From the framework's perspective, as a second contribution, we propose an algorithm for maintaining registers during allocation. Register allocation algorithms depend on the framework to inform them when registers are exhausted. In such a situation, we pro- pose an adaptation of bipartite graph matching to keep track of register usage during translation in the presence of architec- tural constraints. The research also aims at structuring both the specification and software to prevent the closed-syntax bottle- neck of a lot of specification languages. We also describe the architecture of the implementation in terms of a very flexible model called the blackboard model.

Modellering av ett OFDM system för IEEE 802.11a med hjälp av Xilinx blockset / Modelling of an OFDM system for IEEE 802.11a using the Xilinx blockset

Botvidzon, Johan January 2002 (has links)
</p> / <p>The demands on todays wireless communications will continue to increase and with this follows a demand for shorter and shorter development times for the products that are going to satisfy this demand. To accomplish this shorter development time simple tools for going from the formulated standard to a hardware prototype is needed. This work uses one of these tools today available, Xilinx System Generator for DSP 1.1, to develop a transmitter and a reciever for a part of the wireless standard IEEE 802.11a. The work gives a description of the building blocks of the transmitter and the reciever but also some views on System Generator and descriptions of problems that were encountered during the work.</p>

Ultra-wideband electronics, design methods, algorithms, and systems for dielectric spectroscopy of isolated B16 tumor cells in liquid medium

Maxwell, Erick N 01 June 2007 (has links)
Quantifying and characterizing isolated tumor cells (ITCs) is of interest in surgical pathology and cytology for its potential to provide data for cancer staging, classification, and treatment. Although the independent prognostic significance of circulating ITCs has not been proven, their presence is gaining clinical relevance as an indicator. However, researchers have not established an optimal method for detecting ITCs. Consequently, this Ph.D. dissertation is concerned with the development and evaluation of dielectric spectroscopy as a low-cost method for cell characterization and quantification. In support of this goal, ultra-wideband (UWB), microwave pulse generator circuits, coaxial transmission line fixtures, permittivity extraction algorithms, and dielectric spectroscopy measurement systems were developed for evaluating the capacity to quantify B16-F10 tumor cells in suspension. First, this research addressed challenges in developing tunable UWB circuits for pulse generation. In time-domain dielectric spectroscopy, a tunable UWB pulse generator facilitates exploration of microscopic dielectric mechanisms, which contribute to dispersion characteristics. Conventional approaches to tunable pulse generator design have resulted in complex circuit topologies and unsymmetrical waveform morphologies. In this research, a new design approach for low-complexity, tunable, sub-nanosecond and UWB pulse generator was developed. This approach was applied to the development of a novel generator that produces symmetrical waveforms (patent pending 60/597,746). Next, this research addressed problems with transmission-reflection (T/R) measurement of cell suspensions. In T/R measurement, coaxial transmission line fixtures have historically required an elaborate sample holder for containing liquids, resulting in high cost and complexity. Furthermore, the algorithms used to extract T/R dielectric properties have suffered from myriad problems including local minima and half-wavelength resonance. In this dissertation, a simple coaxial transmission line fixture for holding liquids by dispensing with the air-core assumption inherent in previous designs was developed (patent pending 60/916,042). In addition, a genetic algorithm was applied towards extracting dielectric properties from measurement data to circumvent problems of local minima and half wavelength resonance. Finally, in this research the capacity for using dielectric properties to quantify isolated B16-F10 tumor cells in McCoy's liquid medium was investigated. In so doing, the utility of the Maxwell-Wagner mixture formula for cell quantification was demonstrated by measuring distinct dielectric properties for differing volumes of cell suspensions using frequency- and time-domain dielectric spectroscopy.

Förstudie för kontrollanläggningsutrustningi mindre vattenkraftstationer för Uddevalla Energi Elnät AB / Prestudy of protection, monitoring and controlequipment in small hydroelectric power plants for Uddevalla Energi Elnät AB

Karlsson, Sanne, Maurer, Alexander January 2015 (has links)
Five small hydroelectric power plants, constructed 1920 and later, are owned by UddevallaEnergi AB. The hydroelectric power plants are located in Bäveån in Uddevalla. The total installed power is approximately 2 MW. K4 Fossumsberg is the largest hydroelectric powerplant and has a production capacity of 1 MW. The hydroelectric power plants is not only used for energy production but also for regulation of the water levels in Bäveån and Öresjö. On behalf of Uddevalla Energi Elnät AB this bachelor thesis has been done to specify which equipment is preferable as the station monitoring and control equipment. The key areas ofthe report is generator protection, control and regulation, communication and HMI in the plants. There are demands from Uddevalla Energi Elnät AB regarding for instance overcurrent protection, earth fault protection, over- and under voltage protection and reversepower protection. Furthermore it is requested that the new station monitoring and controlequipment is compatible with MicroSCADA and has further options for using the protocol IEC 60870-5 for communication between station and the SCADA system used in the operating centre. Numerous products has been studied and many of them fulfil the requirements stated by Uddevalla Energi Elnät AB. The manufactures mentioned in this report are Schneider Electric, ABB and DEIF. Conclusions are made that Uddevalla Energi Elnät AB should invest in separate units for control and generator protection to achieve a higher level of safety in case of a fault in either generator protection or control equipment. Furthermore it is concluded that to obtain a more complete specification to use when choosing equipment one should consider the cost. More research is needed to take this into account.
