The balance between freedom and control : A study of children’s influence during the planned and goal-oriented activities

Adenberg, Sarah, Lee Duvefjord, Nayoung January 2020 (has links)
In professional practice as a preschool teacher there can be a difficult balance between giving the children “real influence” in their everyday life and education and at the same time raise and educate them based on the norms, laws and governing documents that must be followed within the practice. This study aims to find out the teachers own view and perception of the interpretable concept “real influence” and how this is practiced in their daily interaction with the children combined with planned and goal-oriented teaching activities. In order to get results that would contribute to the discussion of this subject we collected empirical data from interviewing preschool teachers and observing their interaction with the children during planned, goal-oriented teaching activities. The empirical data were analyzed with a phenomenographic approach. We analyzed and reflected on the material from several different points of view to try to deepen our understanding and be able to draw well-founded conclusions. We sought support and knowledge using Foucault's power theory and Mead's intersubjectivity theory, which we then linked to the data we collected. The results of this discussion suggest that there is always a balance between real influence and control in the education and interaction with children. It is up to the teachers to define and judge where the line is drawn. Based on their knowledge, experience and governing documents they must determine what is in the best interest for the children both in the present time and in the future.

[en] SOFTWARE COMPLIANCE ANALYSIS BASED ON SOFTGOAL CATALOG: A MULTI-AGENTS SYSTEMS APPROACH / [pt] ANÁLISE DE CONFORMIDADE DE SOFTWARE COM BASE EM CATÁLOGOS DE REQUISITOS NÃO FUNCIONAIS: UMA ABORDAGEM BASEADA EM SISTEMAS MULTI-AGENTES

ANDRÉ LUIZ DE CASTRO LEAL 18 March 2015 (has links)
[en] The analysis of non-functional requirements (NFR) is a challenge and has been explored in the literature. This initiative is due to the fact of the existence of the problem of analysis the use of the NFRs operationalization in software. In this thesis we present a method, with supporting tools and techniques, that checks, if a software complies with standards of non-functional requirements as described in a catalog, as an alternative to the NFR analysis problem. The strategy adopted in this thesis uses autonomous agents to check software compliance regarding the operationalization of an NFR, by using a knowledge base of patterns persisted in a catalog. Initial results show that the proposed solution is applicable. The evaluation of the validity is given by the demonstration that a partially automated method is effective in identifying compliance. This work differs form others by linking NFRs to their effective implementation. A method based on patterns NFRs was used in common software, as to show the application of the proposed strategy. An agent based framework, working with XML descriptions, for checking software compliance with respect to a NFR catalog was built.

Analyses of hypothalamic systems involved in the organization of intra-specific defense.

Motta, Simone Cristina 30 July 2010 (has links)
In nature, animals express fear responses toward a predator or a co-specific and not much is known about the neural organization of intra-specific defense. Therefore, the aim of this work was to analyze the role that the hypothalamus plays during the intra-specific defense expression. We observed that the dorsal premammilary nucleus is also mobilized during the agonistic encounter, but a different portion. Dorsal premammilary nucleus lesioned intruders led to important defense alterations, almost abolishing passive forms of defensive behavior. Notably, regions in lateral hypothalamus are particularly important for activating the dorsal premammilary nucleus and its efferent projection to the dorsomedial column of periaqueductal gray matter is the most important outcome for the defensive behavior expression. Concluding, the hypothalamus is fundamental for the neural organization of intra-specific defense and inter and intra-specific defensive behaviors are organized by distinct neural pathways.

Based on the GORE technique, the i* modeling language represents system’s and organization’s goals and brings several advantages. Despite that, the i* language faces problems regarding the quality of models, which include typical mistakes of misuse of i* constructs, the presence of ambiguities on the interpretation of those constructs, and the complexity of the resulting i* models. The aim of this work is to present an ontology-based solution for i* models in order to reduce the most well-known errors while constructing such models. To achieve this goal was accomplished initially a literature search, followed by an experimental research to produce the proposed solution This solution includes the extension of an ontology called OntoiStar+ with OWL restrictions to ensure that frequent mistakes in i* models are not found. Besides, the TAGOOn+ tool was also extended to validate i* models in the iStarML language and convert those to an OWL representation. To perform the tests were modeled two different domains, Media Shop and on universities, using these domains case studies have been reproduced and measured results. Results demonstrate an approximate coverage of 70% of those common errors with extension of OntoiStar+ and more than 80% with extension of TAGOOn+ tool.

Representation and Reorganization of Web Accessibility Guidelines Using Goal Graphs and Design Patterns

Kabir, Imran 30 July 2008 (has links)
Web accessibility guidelines have textual representation and provide little support in systematic analysis and usage. The study hypothesizes that the guidelines can be reorganized and represented using the goal oriented technique and design patterns which will allow their usage in a more systematic manner and accommodate detailed analysis of the guidelines with other competing goals. For this study, knowledge from web designers’ experiences in using the guidelines, researchers’ findings, and the actual guidelines have been amalgamated. Six web designers have been consulted on a one-on-one basis and difficulties in using the guidelines for (1) specific scenarios, (2) systematic application, and (3) detailed systems analysis have been reported. Goal oriented modeling and design patterns have been introduced for (1) graphical representation of the guidelines using goal graphs, and (2) keeping the technical details separate from the goal graphs. The proposed representation allows for the accessibility guidelines to be systematically applied into interface design, and systems design using the goal oriented modeling technique.

Threat Analysis Using Goal-Oriented Action Planning : Planning in the Light of Information Fusion

Bjarnolf, Philip January 2008 (has links)
<p>An entity capable of assessing its and others action capabilities possess the power to predict how the involved entities may change their world. Through this knowledge and higher level of situation awareness, the assessing entity may choose the actions that have the most suitable effect, resulting in that entity’s desired world state.</p><p>This thesis covers aspects and concepts of an arbitrary planning system and presents a threat analyzer architecture built on the novel planning system Goal-Oriented Action Planning (GOAP). This planning system has been suggested for an application for improved missile route planning and targeting, as well as being applied in contemporary computer games such as F.E.A.R. – First Encounter Assault Recon and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. The GOAP architecture realized in this project is utilized by two agents that perform action planning to reach their desired world states. One of the agents employs a modified GOAP planner used as a threat analyzer in order to determine what threat level the adversary agent constitutes. This project does also introduce a conceptual schema of a general planning system that considers orders, doctrine and style; as well as a schema depicting an agent system using a blackboard in conjunction with the OODA-loop.</p>

Activity-based Process Integration Framework to Improve User Satisfaction and Decision Support in Healthcare

Baslyman, Malak 12 September 2018 (has links)
Requirements Engineering (RE) approaches are widely used in several domains such as telecommunications systems, information systems, and even regulatory compliance. However, they are rarely applied in healthcare beyond requirements elicitation. Healthcare is a multidisciplinary environment in which clinical processes are often performed across multiple units. Introducing a new Information Technology (IT) system or a new process in such an environment is a very challenging task, especially in the absence of recognized RE practices. Currently, many IT systems are not welcomed by caregivers and are considered to be failures because they change what caregivers are familiar with and bring new tasks that often consume additional time. This thesis introduces a new RE-based approach aiming to evaluate and estimate the potential impact of new system integrations on current practices, organizational goals, and user satisfaction using goal modelling and process modelling techniques. This approach is validated with two case studies conducted in real hospitals and a usability study involving healthcare practitioners. The contributions of the thesis are: • Major: a novel Activity-based Process Integration (AbPI) framework that enables the integration of a new process into existing practices incrementally, in a way that permits continuous analysis and evaluation. AbPI also provides several alternatives to a given integration to ensure effective flowing and minimal disturbance to current practices. AbPI has a Goal Integration Method to integrate new goals, an Integration Method to integrate new processes, and an Alternative Evaluation Method exploiting multi-criteria decision-making algorithms to select among strategies. The modelling concepts of AbPI are supported by a profile of the User Requirements Notation augmented with a new distance-based goal-oriented approach to alternative selection and a new data-quality-driven algorithm for the propagation of confidence levels in goal models. • Minor: a usability study of AbPI to investigate the usefulness of the framework in a healthcare context. This usability study is part of the validation and is also a minor contribution due to: 1) the lack of usability studies when proposing requirements engineering frameworks, and 2) an intent to discover the potential usefulness of the framework in a context where recognized RE practices are seldom used.

Silva, Fernanda Aparecida Rocha da 24 August 2011 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-02T19:06:05Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 5226.pdf: 3993089 bytes, checksum: a0750877fc955b7274271f1326ade7b3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-08-24 / One of the benefits of Service-Oriented Architecture is to make business processes adaptable when this architecture is adopted during software development. For reaching this purpose, it is essential to have a support for services identification in order to meet the business goals. However, many available services found on web environment are too specific and can hardly be reused in different applications. This happens because there is a lack of systematic approaches for supporting generic services identification in a systematic way. Objective: Presenting a strategy for identifying generic services that support business processes. The identification is supported by Goal Diagrams and Business Process Models and is composed by a set of guidelines which assist the domain engineer in extracting the services. The identified services are generic enough to be reused in similar applications of a specific domain. Methodology: To elaborate our strategy, some domain-specific business process were analyzed, aiming at extracting key tasks and turn them into generic web services. This analysis was supported by an extended version of goal diagrams (GTR) and conventional BPM models. Results: As a proof-of-concept we applied our strategy for identifying services in the planning processes domain and we developed a real e-gov web portal based on the identified services. The web portal was used successfully by two different schools for elaborating their planning processes. Conclusion: We claim that our strategy is generic and can be applied to other business processes providing software suitability to the organization dynamics, besides the potential reuse of services in different instances of the same business process.
