Recruitment Strategies Utilizing the Group DynamicStockwell, Glenda, Bockhorst, Peter R., Blackwelder, Reid 01 May 2010 (has links)
One of the challenges facing interns and faculty in family medicine residencies each year is finding ways to accurately assess baseline skills and begin the process of providing effective training for residents who come from a wide variety of educational programs and professional experiences. For the past two years our orientation process has included a focused evaluation of interns in each of the areas of the ACGME core competencies. The use of OSCEs, Human Patient Simulator scenarios, observed physical exams, practice In Training Exams, EKG interpretation, and competency-based self assessments provides both interns and faculty with a good understanding of strengths and deficits and leads to an early opportunity to structure experiences designed to optimize those critical first few months of residency.

Life is for us humans a social life. We are constantly in different social communities with various purposes. Throughout life we are part of different groups, for better or worse. The basic social communities, in our society, are the groups we live, work, learn and grow in. This essay deals with the groups children develop and learn in, in school and leisure time center. The intention is to explore how teachers and leisure time pedagogue can work with these groups and what may be the best way to create a good group dynamic and cohesion. The essay is based on three portrayed experiences that are used in a developing process using a distanced discussion and reflective writing. I have found that the attitude and leadership teachers and leisure time pedagogue exercise, against both the individual child and the group, are crucial regarding the group´s functioning and wellbeing. One approach is to work with team building exercises and similar methods which I believe would help improve group cohesion and security. I also see that it is very important for teachers and leisure time pedagogue to think and reflect about how they convey the implied value of education to the children. A critical view and reflective way, of both our self and the function as a whole, I have also found to be important to be able to achieve good group cohesion.

Level: Final assignment for Bachelor Degrees in Business Administration Author: Magnus Flodmark and Oscar Stridh Supervisor: Kristina Mickelsson and Dr Agneta Sundström Date: 2019 June Aim: The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of whether / how a manager within the real estate brokerage industry works to counteract and reduce staff turnover. Method: The point of the study is qualitative with an inductive approach. Through interviews with managers in the real estate brokerage industry, empirical data was collected and analyzed with thematic analysis. Result & Conclusion: What emerged from our interviews was that staff turnover is still seen as a major problem in the real estate brokerage industry. The managers in the industry are well aware of the problem and actively work to try to curb it. Staff turnover in the real estate brokerage industry is largely caused by the lack of financial results for the brokers. The solution according to our respondents is to work with the group dynamic. A tool that is highlighted is work with teambuilding, which is also supported by previous research. In addition, we have also discovered that the managers in the real estate brokerage industry work with recruitment, where they place great emphasis on group dynamic factors instead of focusing solely on previous financial results. In this way, they try to solve the problem with high staff turnover. Contribution of the thesis: The study contributes to an increased understanding of how managers can work to reduce staff turnover, including work with group dynamics and team building. The recruitment process is considered one of the most important steps in reducing staff turnover. The study also contributes with knowledge to the real estate brokerage industry about how staff turnover can be prevented through concrete methods and emphasizes the importance of the recruitment process. Suggestions for future research: We propose to carry out studies to find out why employees choose to terminate their employment voluntarily, for example by interviewing formerly active brokers who have chosen to change industry. We also suggest that research should be carried out in the same area but from the employees' perspective. Key words: Group dynamic, Teambuilding, Well being at workplace, Trust-based relationship, sustainable leadership, Employee turnover, Staff turnover, Personalomsättning.

Diskursiva handlingar och resurser i talkshows med flerpartssamtal : En samtalsanalys av tv-programmet Skavlan / Discursive actions and resources in talk shows with multi-party interaction : A conversation analysis on the television program SkavlanStenberg, Ulrika, Lantz, Stina January 2011 (has links)
This paper examines the function of narrative discourse in television talk shows. Basing our analysis on five episodes of the Swedish talk show Skavlan, we illustrate how narratives are initiated and elaborated by the participants of the show. The analysis shows that the institutional roles are challanged and that the roles vary between the host ant the guests. The analysis also shows that when guests introduce and elaborate stories they use the same discursive actions and resources as the host. When participants enter an actvie role in their storytelling the hos takes a more restrained role in which he lets the the conversation evolve spontaneously. The analysis identifies yet another participant role which was not included in the studies of Ochs & Taylor and Thornborrow. The role appears when the host uses indirect form of address to both the studio audience and the overhearing audience. This role is relevant in the study of broadcast talk because of the very nature of television.

The purpose of this study is to investigate active piano teachers’ experiences of group teaching and interaction opportunities for new beginner in piano. The background chapter provides an overview of what's written about the interplay, piano tutorials, traditions in piano teaching and materials for groups, followed by a presentation of previous research in the field. The theoretical starting point for the study consists of the socio-cultural perspective on learning and communication. The collected data material consists of qualitative interviews with four active piano teachers who have experience of interaction and group lessons for piano. The results chapter describes the informants' experiences of group work, interaction, conditions and materials. The result tells that external frame factors (such as instruments and services) as well as internal frame factors (as educator interest and motivation) have important implications for how the teaching will be. Other issues raised by informants are group dynamics, the importance of pulse and listening in interaction situations and approaches to find suitable materials. The concluding discussion chapter highlights parts of the study’s results discussed in relation to the socio-cultural perspective on learning, and the previous literature and research. One conclusion is that piano students in a group have the opportunity to learn other skills than the individual student. Another conclusion is that if the group dynamic doesn’t function, so does not the musical interaction, or any other elements.

Elevmotivation utifrån ett historielärarperspektiv (Motivation of students from a History Teacher’s perspective)Persson, Peter January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this interview study is to examine, by scientific method, how motivation should be created from the perspective of professional working teacher’s of history, and how this creating stands in relation to motivation theories. Seven teachers divided into two nine-year compulsory schools and one upper secondary school have been interviewed. The answers from the interviews have been adapted separately and then analysed from motivation theories. The result show that the teachers consider that the primary factors for creating motivation of students is the qualities that the role of a teacher has. These qualities are to being a good storyteller, being absorbed in the matter, have good subject knowledge and a power to touch students mind. Students in this age find oneself in different maturity level, which expressed as important factor for the possibilities and for methods used when creating motivation of students. No homogeneous answer was given for the question if the subject of history has unique factors for motivation. It was mention by one teacher that a strong interesting for war and armed conflicts could occur in some individuals; in the most cases these were boys. The teacher when teaching in history could use this, by using similar events from the history and by expanding these to a history relation.

Green RelationshipImad, Fadel 01 May 2014 (has links)
Green Relationship is a design solution attempting to raise awareness toward the environment and reduce consumerism. Waste generation and pollution have become major concerns of many governments, municipalities, organizations and individuals around the world since they are affecting human wellbeing and the environment. As an MFA student with VCUQatar, I chose to use design to contribute in protecting the environment hoping to make a difference in life. The thesis includes a research and a design component. The research explores the recycling programs and facilities in Qatar, the governmental and private sector actions toward waste generation and collection, as well as precedent solutions applied around the world. Furthermore, it includes a survey on recycling to gather and analyze the community’s feed back in order to come up with a solution that aims to change people’s behavior toward waste generation and to promote green lifestyle. The design component defines the Green Relationship as the personal connection between the individual and the silent partner, “the environment.” It fulfills the basic survival needs, “food and water,” and the one and only independency need, “oxygen.” The elements of the Green Relationship are the projection of the generic relationships elements we know of through the theory of “Humimicing” that I introduce in my thesis. Humimicing is the design theory that mimics human innate attributes and behaviors to develop design concepts to be applied in different industries. Every element of the Green Relationship is visualized through a different design discipline similar to its nature. Therefore, interactive, product and critical designs are the mediums used to represent Green Communication, Care and Ethics respectively through public installation, experimentation and conceptual design definition. The thesis methodology, which is “Make it Personal,” concludes in creating the Green Relationship that aims to change the behavior of individuals and ultimately to reach out to the wider community. Under the maxim, “Green is not just a color; it is a Lifestyle,” the thesis promotes the use of design to inspire people, designers and manufacturers to consume less and generate less waste in order to save natural resources and the environment.
