[en] SIMULATION AND PERFORMANCE OF INTEGRATED DATA AND SPEECH SERVICE IN CELULAR SISTEMS USING GSM/HSCSD / [pt] SIMULAÇÃO E DESEMPENHO DE SERVIÇO INTEGRADO DE VOZ E DADOS EM SISTEMAS CELULARES UTILIZANDO O PADRÃO GSM/HSCSDTALLES ALEXANDRE CAMILO 16 May 2003 (has links)
outras simulações buscando maximizar a eficiência espectral
do sistema utilizando deste novo algoritmo. / [en] Due to the increasing use of cellular networks for data
transmission, mobile telephone operators are facing a
dramatic raise in using radio resources to supply their
demand. As a result, they are being forced to migrate to new
technologies that provide high spectral efficiency,
allowing an optimized use of available spectrum.
This work describes the development of an advanced tool to
analyze the operator management of radio transmission for
personal mobile systems. The model was built considering
well-known propagation, mobility, voice and data traffic
for transmission assumptions, in order to approximate the
developed tool to the real world mobile systems.
The simulation tool is suited for GSM/HSCSD networks
allowing engineers to optimize the efficient use of the
available spectrum. It also permits the evaluation of
system capacity as well as the analysis of power control and
handover strategies. Another application exploited in this
work is the investigation of resource allocation algorithms.
A new algorithm for resource allocation in integrated voice
and data environments was proposed and its performance was
evaluated using the simulation tool.

On Enhancement and Quality Assessment of Audio and Video in Communication SystemsRossholm, Andreas January 2014 (has links)
The use of audio and video communication has increased exponentially over the last decade and has gone from speech over GSM to HD resolution video conference between continents on mobile devices. As the use becomes more widespread the interest in delivering high quality media increases even on devices with limited resources. This includes both development and enhancement of the communication chain but also the topic of objective measurements of the perceived quality. The focus of this thesis work has been to perform enhancement within speech encoding and video decoding, to measure influence factors of audio and video performance, and to build methods to predict the perceived video quality. The audio enhancement part of this thesis addresses the well known problem in the GSM system with an interfering signal generated by the switching nature of TDMA cellular telephony. Two different solutions are given to suppress such interference internally in the mobile handset. The first method involves the use of subtractive noise cancellation employing correlators, the second uses a structure of IIR notch filters. Both solutions use control algorithms based on the state of the communication between the mobile handset and the base station. The video enhancement part presents two post-filters. These two filters are designed to improve visual quality of highly compressed video streams from standard, block-based video codecs by combating both blocking and ringing artifacts. The second post-filter also performs sharpening. The third part addresses the problem of measuring audio and video delay as well as skewness between these, also known as synchronization. This method is a black box technique which enables it to be applied on any audiovisual application, proprietary as well as open standards, and can be run on any platform and over any network connectivity. The last part addresses no-reference (NR) bitstream video quality prediction using features extracted from the coded video stream. Several methods have been used and evaluated: Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and Least Square Support Vector Machines (LS-SVM), showing high correlation with both MOS and objective video assessment methods as PSNR and PEVQ. The impact from temporal, spatial and quantization variations on perceptual video quality has also been addressed, together with the trade off between these, and for this purpose a set of locally conducted subjective experiments were performed.

4G LTE : eMBMS with MBSFN Service Simulation using OPNETWalid, Abdelrahman January 2014 (has links)
Long Term Evolution (LTE) known in the market as 4G LTE, it is an evolution of the GSM/UMTS standard. The overall aim of LTE was to provide a new radio access technology focusing on packet-switched data only. LTE has provided a new peak download rates, low data transfer latencies, and improved the support for mobility. 3Th Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specialized that LTE released 10 and beyond known as LTE-advanced it is the second evolution of LTE. It has some services such as Coordinated Multipoint Transmission and Reception (CoMP), evolved Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service (eMBMS) with Multicast-Broadcast Single-Frequency Network (MBSFN). The development still continuous on LTE-advanced, it is intended to meet the requirement of advanced application that will become common in the wireless marketplace in future. The goals of this project is to simulate one of LTE-A services on LTE standard such as CoMP or/and eMBMS with MBSFN using OPENT LTE, and measure some statistic such as spectral efficiency and also some other statistics, describe centralization vs. decentralization in LTE, and synchronization in the base station in LTE. OPNET LTE support eMBMS with MBSFN, and don’t support CoMP, the simulation has been done by using eMBMS with MBSFN. Finally the objectives of the project has achieved, the result show that when eMBMS with MBSFN is implemented the throughput increased in the downlink to about 5.52 Mbps and in the uplink to about 5.18 Mbps, and also the system spectral efficiency increased in eNB1 from about 10.25 (bits/s/Hz/cell) to about 13.75 (bits/s/Hz/cell) and in eNB2 from about 10.25 (bits/s/Hz/cell) to about 17.25 (bits/s/Hz/cell). The project also answers if it is possible to have centralization in LTE, describe synchronization in the base station in LTE, and if OPNET is useful for big research.
